Description: Lanky and lean, Robert has the build of hard labor, not quite enough food, and a lot of sailing on the sea. He is always in motion, swaying a little when he walks as though he never quite expects the land underneath him to be truly still. For all his youth there's a stillness about him, a patience that is usually found in a more mature person.
Personality: Robert has very firm ideas about what is right and what is wrong. Some people in the world can be quiet and suffer the presence of 'wrongness' but he is not one of them. He believes in freedom, detests slavery, believes women and men are intrinsically different, believes family is important. He believes in being honest, and honorable, and speaking up in the defense of others - so much so that it is almost impossible for him to be dishonest, or to see some injustice going on and not speak up. It's not that he's never afraid - it's not that at all. It's that he never seems to take the path of caution or take a roundabout way to anything. He speaks his mind even when it's inadvisable and it's gotten him in trouble but he's probably not going to change without a lot of maturing.
Background: Robert and his people, a small Shav tribe of about 30 grew up on the Southern slopes of the same isle as Tydehall, tucked away in their isolated bay, keeping to themselves and living off the land. There were some good years, and there were some bad year besides having more to eat some winters and less to eat other winters little really ever changed and Robert never expected it to. All Robert ever wanted to do was sail, and fish and live his life in peace.
Until Dougall the prophet of the Marin showed up and convinced his people that the Marin was rising up from the sea, and convinced his village to join the Marin's efforts. Robert saw through the scheme, he realized that the 'prophet' was looking for sacrifices, not sailors, but when he tried to speak out, to try and bring his people to their senses, they beat him and drove him out of the village.
Robert realized then the weakness of people. How quick they are to cleave to anyone who promises them a better future. And as quickly as they threw themselves to Dougall, they abandoned him for the Duchess of Tyde who promised them food and shelter in her keep. He travelled with his family to the Tyde's hall though, swore his oaths as a free man but the looming threat of the Marin nagged in. Unlike the others that were contented with a roof that didn't leak and a promise of steady food, he couldn't just let that go. And so, as terrifying as the idea was, he left the isle to come to Arx and ensure that it wasn't forgotten, the truth of the Deep water, and to do what he can to ensure that other tribes like his own don't fall prey to the Prophets of Marin as well.
