Action by Aleksei

Orazio, Aureth, Fortunato, and Aleksei are trying to talk to the Queen of Endings.

Each of them has a sort of "function" in the quartet.

1) Orazio is the focus: he is the one who cares deeply and fervently about awaking the king, and thus has the most emotional energy invested. He is also the most literally practiced at /focusing/, especially when it comes to prayers.

2) Aureth is the conduit. For whatever reason, he's already been the recipient of several visions from her, so the group figures she either has a particular affection for him or his Sight just makes him more open to receiving visions. He's also kind of the Occult to Orazio's Theology.

3) Fortunato is the creator. He's providing whatever artistry they need, especially when it comes to ingredients that are -- harder to come by naturally.

4) Aleksei is the humor. He is the one turning serious prayers into terrible, terrible jokes. You know: just trying to tickle a lost goddess's funny bone.

The four of them are gathering their things and setting up an evening's vigil at the Shrine of the Lost one evening when the full moon is out. They are bringing with them the following things (which all have tchotchkes in the Shrine of the Lost now):

1) "Wings of a bat." There are no bats around. Bats are extinct. But Orazio got a pair anyways! Fortunato will be making a clay bat body wrapped in cloth and hair to attach them to with wires and hang it up.

2) "A kitten's tail." This is an awful ingredient. The group actually tries to check with some ratcatchers for this, as they sometimes dock their cats' tails. The group really doesn't want to have to catch a kitten and cut off a tail themselves. They will cry. They will do it if they need to, but they will cry.

3) "Tears of a scorned lover." Aureth collected these in a jar from Joscelin, whose heart he broke when they were teenagers. Way to go, Aureth.

4) "Red wine." Orazio is bringing the good stuff.

5) "Twelve skulls." They go Pit-diving for these. It's awful to rob graves. Sorry, Pit.

6) "Humor under moonlight." Aleksei is making the stupidest puns possible for each and every item. They read:

* Bats: "This request might be a little batty."

* Kitten's Tail: "You really aren't kitten around about these ingredients."

* Red Wine: "We don't want to wine too much, but..."

* Twelve Skulls: "Hope you find us humerus. Throw us a bone, here!"

7) Not an ingredient required by the list, but Aureth has also written a poem with rhyming couplets of a (more or less) similar style to how the Queen of Endings spoke to him. It reads:

I heard the Queen's clear command:
Destroy that shitty fuckhead Brand,
Cut short the asshole's stupid plan.
Beseech thee, lady: Lend us a hand?
The trouble is, you see, our leaders,
have the brains of bottom-feeders!
What can you expect, all that inbreeding,
without some sensible interceding?
They flail and piss away our allies
No matter what Faith or reason advise--
Can't find their asses with a compass,
Their incompetence will return to haunt us.
With our crappy king awake and breathing
perhaps the people's squabbles seething
will come to naught but itchy teething
and we can get back to our ensheathing
an axe in the neck of Tolamar Brand.
We will tan every Bringer slain
until their presence is erased again;
the enemies' armies quite unmanned,
so that the Silence dies and we, withstand.

And then they pray. Well, they pray and focus, whatever makes sense for them. (Orazio is a champion long-distance prayer.) They probably drink some wine. Aleksei surely comes up with more dumb jokes as the night goes on. It is likely not as formal as Orazio would want or as ridiculous as Aleksei would want, so they probably end up somewhere in the middle. Their question for the Queen? "What's the price of returning the King's soul?"
