Description: Raw-boned and thin, Decklin is a fair-skinned young man with eerie, cloud-pale white eyes and thin, often-chapped lips. His skin is dusted with seemingly endless freckles. His lashes are a long fluff of blond, while his hair falls in a straight cascade of straw-pale, fine strands past the curves of his slightly too-large ears. He has a tendency to slimness and a starkness of bone and feature that suggests him perennially underfed.

Personality: Quiet and intense, Decklin observes the world with a deep absorption. He has a finely honed sense of the ridiculous and he seems to absorb injustices as though they were personal slights, not so that he can react with immediate insult but so that he can bury them deep inside at the bottom of a deep wellspring of rage and resentment that seems boundless: he has never erupted, but still it fuels him; it fuels witty barbs of his tongue, it fuels the sharpness of his smiles, it fuels his desire to take from those that have and ensure that those that don't have get a little more. His ideals are those of a hero-thief in a classic mold, but the role the gods have set for him is that of the webweaver and the spy. He plays the role well. He finds generosity fascinating and suspect, he finds selfishness contemptible but understandable, and he wants to change the world, and he's young enough to try.

Background: Decklin was born into the Boroughs. He was born early and his mother died birthing him. It's one of those stories, the kind that start tragic and don't stop. He was born blind as a kitten and never came to see like the other children did, but he did come to sense. Even when he was very young, his hearing seemed unusually good. He loved music, and gravitated towards it. As an orphan, he might have been nobody forever, but the Cullers took him in for his ears to the wall when he was but a boy. As a pale child, small for his age, he was good for begging silver off the warm-hearted, or nicking it off the hard-hearted, and he became a fixture around the streets in the Lower Boroughs, sitting in the shadows, listening and learning, but not watching, because he never could see.

Decklin learned to sing for his supper and he learned, even more, when to keep silent. People don't notice a beggar in the shadows. He developed, as he grew older, and larger, and stronger, a reputation -- not as an amazing criminal in his own right -- but as a source of information: a fence, a spy, a learner of tales and a passer of them along. For a price. With the force of the Cullers to protect him, he is an asset to their family, and to the Boroughs generally.
