Description: A tall and handsome man in full possession of his own body, Joaquin has the presence of a true performer. Agile in his movements, with a mastery of the dramatic displayed ranging from the flamboyant to the invisible, he is a man still in his prime, filled with an energy that younger men may yet fall short of matching. He keeps his hair long, easily reaching the middle of his back, and while its natural hue is a rich brown, it can and often will be dyed to serve the purposes of a particular role, much like his use of cosmetics.
Personality: Joaquin, the Jack of Blades. The title suits various aspects and layers of the man in ways he prefers to leave for others to decipher rather than ruining the fun and explaining everything. Still, some things grow evident should one spend even a small amount of time with the man. For one, Joaquin having the ability to find a great many things hilarious, even if they are, by most accounts, very much not. The man who will laugh and dance in the face of the greatest of tragedies, of the darkest moments? That would be Joaquin. Whether this is just another role the man has embraced, or just his true nature, is kept, purposefully, unclear. For that too, is yet another aspect of the man, one hinted at by his other name. The Jack of Blades, a trickster of a card that finds new meaning in both the sharpness of his wit along with his ability to forge and perform with the blades to match. As befits the tradition of jesters and other such performers he follows, however, even his sharpest witticisms serve to entertain... or educate. Maybe. With Joaquin? It's maddeningly difficult to figure out.
Background: The details of Joaquin's past are both easy to uncover, and difficult. It's known the man was born in Setarco, and from what he's shared of his own story, he was born in a troupe of entertainers who counted the then ruler of House Pravus as their patron. Another detail is his parents' occupations. One was an entertainer such as him, an actor and singer, while the other was a smith who had left the secure and comfortable life of an established blacksmith in favour of the person they loved and the call of adventure. Which was his mother and which his father, however, changes from telling to telling, and every piece of information one might get from the man himself is similarly bound to Joaquin's whims.
Still, the man cannot change what others remember. It's known he was part of a troupe and eventually decided to strike off on his own, arriving at the court of House Pravus during the time of the kind and (too) benevolent Duke Piero Pravus. There, the man entertained with his musical ability and his stories, his acrobatics and dancing. Yet they were not the things that would earn him the title of Jack of Blades. His remarks, as sharp as the blades he would personally shape from the forge to then perform in dangerous feats of agility.
It was fun, but even a fool could see Piero was heading Pravus right into a cliff. As things grew worse and Pravus withered, Joaquin left. He did so without warning nor explanation, perhaps enjoying the invisibility that commoners seem to possess where the highborn are concerned. Where he went seems to be most easily answered with "everywhere", traveling throughout the various territories of the Compact and even beyond! So he claims, at least. He'd return to his home of Setarco every now and then, to entertain and then disappear off to another region of the Compact.
More recently, he's decided to travel to Arx. Why? Why not? Joaquin's not one to simply give explainations, after all. Why expect differently here?
Name | Summary |
Anisha | Princess Sudara's acquaintance - he arrived late but he arrived well, and unafraid to involve himself. I do enjoy a man who shows some spirit. |
Constance | A man who seems as if his strengths and faults are precisely the same thing. |
Dante | Jack of Knives? Interesting fellow, can spin quite a tale and subtly dig at some without them perhaps noticing. Supposedly he has traveled quite a bit, I would like to find out more about that. |
Gerald | Ah, the joys of the self-assured. An individual that bears watching. Perhaps even useful as well. But, we will simply have to see. |
Mabelle | Amusing. I like the way he twists his words. There's value to it for sake of entertainment. A well seasoned man. |
Miella | I'd be one to think he'd be the one who merely looks like he's beaten but has the hand that wipes out the whole table in the end. |
Mikani | Jack of Blades ... confusing man. Yet he tells a good tale. We'll see how this pans out. |
Narcissa | The fool so often is akin to the sage, but this Knave fills volumes where fools but a page. |
Selah | His wit is quicker than his gallantry. Might know interesting things if he can be convinced to behave himself. |
Sudara | A welcome face from the past: as charmingly playful and sharp as I remembered. |
Zoey | A witty one! I look forward to seeing a real performance from him. |
