Penny Pinching

There's a murmur in the markets, consternation among the coin-changers. Merchants and customers alike can be found engaging in loud arguments at stalls and in public houses; too many people have been found trying to purchase goods with false coin, of late. As a response, the merchants who deal in higher end, persistent goods have hired guards to help them check coin before accepting it. But the trader on the street, those who deal in food, services, and other single-use goods? They have no recourse but to raise prices to compensate for the chance that some of what they're paid in might be worthless. The households of the noble houses mostly just take notes and adjust their budgets - what's a few more coins for apples, here and there?
