Emberly's Penance

There was some surprise at the removal of Lady Emberly Farshaw from her family, of being stripped of title over an apparent threat to poison a rival. The former Farshaw noblewoman performed a public penance of visiting and praying at shrines, but the opinion of most of the Faith was it really wasn't necessary and not really a matter that involves the Faith, though they always appreciate a show of piety and reflection. Reaction elsewhere is mixed. Mourning Islanders generally agree with Farshaw, as of all the great houses, the Isles is absolutely ruthless in removing any member of a family that ever reflects negatively on house honor, and no region has even half as many de-noblements as the Isles. The Oathlands are more believers in personal honor, and while removal of someone is extreme, they view it as a matter between Emberly and her old house, and if the Faith doesn't view it as a concern, most of them don't either. The Lyceum and the new Saffron great house think it is an example of the Oathlanders being pompous, brittle and unable to take a joke, as casting out a family member for a crass joke about poisoning someone is just so like the Oathlands- unless someone is choking and dying from poison, or at least made the attempt with actual poison, it is much ado about nothing. The Northlands don't really think it's anyone's business but Emberly's and her old house, and that if another house takes her in and they all move on, great. Grudges never look good on anyone. And the Crownlands is just generally embarrassed that this is a thing in a time of war, and really, just move on.
