Grimhall's Pirate Hunt
Posted by Apostate on 11/21/17
Duke Harald Grimhall sails with the Grim Fleet, his vassals and Thrax's fleet to restore stability to Kennex waters, and smash muntineers and pirates. In this, there is significant success. Lord Ian Kennex along with his brother Aethan spot two of the mutineers first. Lady Regla Navegant, the Sword of Escuma, along with Lord Faelan Navegant, lead Navegant forces in bringing the longships to action, who quickly find themselves run down by the entire Grim Fleet. Lord Valdemar Grimhall is one of the first to board the rebels. Overwhelming force makes for an easy capture of two longships, with the loss of just a handful (poor Rolf tried to jump from a boarding plank, missed, hit his head and fell into the ocean- RIP), and many survivors are brought back to Grihem's Point to be presented to the sea.
Others did admirable support work. Melinda and Sameera, guarded by Torstein spread the word and raised spirits, helping to minimize the flames of mutiny from spreading. Lord Edward Stormbreak spent much time meeting with other lords, traditionalists and progressive alike, and speaking on the economic impact of Kennex's choices and how to minimize the sort of problems they witnessed and what was reasonable to expect from the Compact to help in transition. The decisive military action, as well as meeting to reassure traditionalists, helps to defuse much of the tensions, though there still remains strong concerns and the expectation of Compact assistance for any that transition from thralldom.
Piracy still remains in smaller numbers, there's reports of wiser pirates terrified of the effective of Grimhall's efforts running false flags to attempt to evade capture.
