Scholar Jonathan Grimkin is the Scholar of Vellichor who recently wrote that Duke Asger Crovane's assassination was a sign of the moral decay of the Compact and tried to vaguely tie it to the undermining of traditions like Thralldom, the increase in prodigals and neo nobles and other traditionalist talking points. The arguments of the scholar made him a popular figure in the Isles and among more traditional houses throughout the Compact, and he was becoming a notable figure due to his ever more strident white journals decrying neo-nobles and all the chaos they are leaving in their wake.
He's been found brutally murdered in an alley not far from the Great Archive, his fingers cut off, and a smile carved into his chest in a perfect representation of the Smiling Shadows' sigil. Someone was not a fan.
