Episode: The Fall of Nilanza
Posted by Story on 06/27/17
The proclamation by Duchess Belladonna Pravus, the Duchess of Setarco, in outlawing her vassal and attainting House Argento caught most in the Compact by surprise. The House had been an extremely close vassal, with a member of House Pravus, Lady Lianne Pravus, acting as a voice for House Argento in seeing to the rule of the city-state of Nilanza for some time. But unfortunately Duchess Belladonna Pravus had uncovered treachery on the part of House Argento, and declared their lands, ranks and titles forfeit.
House Pravus naval forces, joined surprisingly by House Thrax, blockade the smaller march's city-state of Nilanza, issuing immediate surrender demands. Inside the city, an intense whisper campaign to discredit House Argento catches on with the populace, and the city would very nearly be on the edge of revolt even if they weren't facing catastrophically numerically superior forces in their waters. As the time runs out on the demands to be met, House Argento's vassals from the smaller city-states of Bravura and Caina show, with flags of House Malgentilega and House Iverno flying on the ships. While the majority of House Argento's military forces break from their Argento leaders, a small minority try to coordiante an attack with the forces of their vassals in a bid to break through the blockade, so some Argento family can slip away from Pravus to fight another day.
The bid fails. The Pravus and Thrax forces utterly crush the small number of Argento vessels willing to fight, and run down survivors, with most of Iverno turning on their lords. Immediately following the brief naval engagement, Nilanza is invaded- with the city-state's gates opened by troops eager to declare their new loyalty to Pravus. A brief, extremely bloody battle with the handful of loyalists follows, which includes the capture or death of nearly all of House Argento. The previous Count of the March Salazar Argento is among the dead. Nilanza now rests in House Pravus' hands, with their vassals soon to follow, and House Argento has been destroyed.
