Whispers and Auctions

Posted by Bliss on 10/02/19
It has been brought to my attention that there is a long-standing rule from years ago that Whisper House will no longer participate in human auctions of any kind, due to their resemblance to the slave auctions of Eurus and other similar things. This would mean no charity events where we sold our time to the highest bidder, no partaking in these as bidders ourselves, no events of this type to be held at Whisper House in the future.

While the intent of this was good-minded, the confusion between voluntarily selling a short period of your time in order to perform a specific service - what we call wage labor - and indebting yourself in perpetuity, losing your whole life to it until you are free, or being enslaved by force did little to help clear up the matter of what is and is not thralldom. What is and is not slavery.

I'm hereby rescinding that ruling. Whisper House will not engage in the creation and trading of human chattel - we are not, and will not ever be, slavers. But we will absolutely let our people be free to sell their labor temporarily in whatever form they so choose.

The Whispers are absolutely free to make this choice, though it entirely misses the point of why that ruling was made in the first place.

An addendum: After some conversation, I would like to make it clear that the specific tone and tenor of the event which caused this ruling in the first place was appalling. These events can be run with class, and without dehumanizing.
