Commoners' Council Issues
Posted by Perronne on 05/24/20
Greetings, fellow people of Arx and the Crownlands:
Although the gods were kind in that no lives were lost in the recent unrest, it was clear that the common people of Arx are in pain, and seek relief. We commend and thank the Crown, represented by the honored Dame Eleanor, for opening the stores of food already here in Arx so that they might be distributed to those in need. The Council re-sends its call for charitable endeavors who require funding, materials, or support from the Council, and will additionally pay fishermen above the going rate for seafood and other coastal edibles that can be harvested from the shores around Arx, provided that those catches go directly to the people of the Lowers. If nothing else, the harbor and surrounding shores still have an abundance of fish which can be brought into the city daily for the short term to supplement food supplies.
In additional Council news, recent events certainly warrant a new election of Commoners' Council members. I ask for anyone who is currently a representative who wishes to remain a representative to declare themselves interested in remaining in service. Also, anyone new who wishes to declare themselves interested in a Council position, please send me a letter within the next week or two (OOC: by May 31). After that deadline, a ballot of those interested will be presented to the Crown, and upon approval, released to the Crownsworn for voting. And no, if you're a Lord or a Lady, don't submit your name.
Finally, by the request of Nurie Baseborn, the Commoners' Council asks for an accounting of charitable endeavors currently operating within the city, so that interested individuals may donate to these already existent organizations, rather than causing confusion and disorganization by attempting to build new endeavors in the middle of a crisis. The Council thanks the Faith for remaining the largest and most reliable provider of charity throughout the Compact, but particularly here in Arx, and suggests that people who wish simply to help donate first to the Faith, and then to smaller organizations which target particular neighborhoods or populations, as needed. However, once we have a list of those organizations who wish to declare themselves and solicit further donations, we'll be happy to share them. Use what's there! It doesn't have to have your name on it to be great! Although, admittedly, having your name on things is pretty good.
Anyway. If you have further suggestions, questions, complaints, or angry mobs, please message myself or the other members of the Council, and we will pass them along to the Crown and other organizations as we can. Except the angry mobs. Passing those along is probably a crime.
