Amadeo-Proscipi Betrothal
Posted by Duarte on 09/10/21
House Amadeo is a young house. Orphaned at a young age, my lineage ends with me. I have a brother somewhere out there and were he to show up again he would not be welcome to the fruits of what has been achieved in the name of our father, for his cowardice and abandonment shall never be rewarded.
A year or so before my ennoblement I adopted a boy from the Tragedy. When I became Count of Bravura I named him my Voice and my heir. House Amadeo then became a House whose familial bonds were not by blood or birth right. We became a family by Choice.
Is it wise then that I should betroth him, Lord Orland Amadeo, to another newly risen house, to another so called neo-noble? Perhaps not by tradition's standards. Tradition dictates I should marry and create offspring to carry the name. So let me say this: Orland Amadeo is my family by the most sacred of bonds. He is my family because I have chosen him to be, and he accepted.
Now he has chosen the man with whom he will live out his days. It is a love story already recognized and celebrated for its purity and beauty.
And what of propriety? Tradition? I dare say the gift I give now to Bravura is greater than these things. For when our beloved institutions of Arvum give way to time - and they will; for when the values we claim to hold dear wither - and they will; there are yet stories and artistry - survival in the raw - that will out last the decaying passage of time.
I can see them now, the scholars and bards hundreds of years hence, searching dark corridors of the archives or risking life and limb in hidden passages of some blighted fortress, searching for but just a scrap of papyrus upon which is written only a snippet of a song by Lord Savio Proscipi which tells but a small fragment of the tale of his romance with Lord Orland Amadeo. And how treasured those small scraps will be: studied and discussed at length. Prayed over.
And perhaps all those pieces so gathered and studied will help our future historians find today: the evening when, Count Duarte Amadeo of Bravura, announced that my adopted son Orland shall soon be happily wed and join to our House that very bard, Lord Savio Proscipi.
--- Proscipi Stance via Cassiopeia ---
It is an honour to be part of their story, and to experience and witness their love and hope for the future. We are grateful for new family, and to be part of such a joyous union.
--- Templars Stance via Preston ---
Nobles may love as they wish. But they must honour the obligations to their people, the Compact and Limerance, or set aside their title. They owe stability that a secure line brings. Without which their conquests are as sand running through their fingers, impermanent.
--- Mirrormask Stance via Giada ---
In honor of the First Choice, the Mirrormasks support Amadeo and Proscipi for enriching their people through a contract building bonds between Houses newly established within the Compact. May their choice prove a wise one.
--- Ravenseye Stance via Aella ---
Choice is a blessing, and in this Ravenseye commends Amadeo on fine reasoning and finding a path that blends duty and love. May this alliance, built on a foundation of years of work between your houses, honor us all.
--- Redreef Stance via Ember ---
History must always begin with the first of something. House Redreef has nothing to say about love, but may this match bring House Amadeo strength enough to endure into the historical record.
--- Velenosa Stance via Jaenelle ---
I am please to hear that the man who once demanded to know why he was not consulted personally in appointing my house Sword embrace choice.
--- Laurent Stance via Cristoph ---
I find Count Duarte's enjoyment in a doomed future for the Compact a few hundred years from now to be alarming and not befitting that of nobility meant to uphold the traditions and values of our people nor that of our continued prosperity.
--- Clement Stance via Norwood ---
Tradition only fails when it is flaunted and considered to be worthless. Consider the power such declarations give to our enemies that all they must do is bide their time and we will fail. Would not a simple, I endorse this marriage happily, not have been sufficient?
--- Stahlben Stance via Volcica ---
The words of House Amadeo do not reflect those of other younger Houses, who have sworn to uphold the traditions and tenants of the Compact when rising to our station. May lords Orland and Savio find happiness, as well as a suitable heir before they have need of one.
--- Tessere Stance via Piccola ---
The wall that collapses when a single stone is pulled from it does not deserve to stand. House Tessere celebrates this embrace of choice and eagerly awaits what follows.
