A Heart Still Beating

House Laurent was founded by the illegitimate son of a man named Duke Uthyr Durand, a man who abandoned his duty to Limerance, his duty to kin. This son went on to squire with the King's Own. Sir Jonathan Baseborn fought at the side of Queen Alarice Grayson the Great in a war that ravaged the Compact, saw old houses fall, and new houses rise.
During that time, Artshall was taken by Sir Jonathan Baseborn during a rebellion. Later it was lost, sacked. Nearly everyone killed except for him and his close family. As the war raged, Artshall was reclaimed again. Sir Jonathan Baseborn became Duke Jonathan Laurent, and a legacy was born.
I stood tonight on the rolling hills outside of the city, looking down at the burning embers of my home. But the city is not what made Artshall. It was her people. Countless lives have been lost, but many were saved thanks to the help of the allies we had with us today.
The heart of Artshall still lives.
I swear to the people of my duchy, to the people of the Oathlands, to the people of the Compact:
That as long as the heart of a single Laurent beats true, as long as there is blood pumping in our veins? We will never truly fall. We will do our part to hold the Oathlands.
