The Fealty of Darkwater

Darkwater Watch has stood for a thousand years and more. The ancestral fortress known as the Redoubt has stood in that time unbowed, unbroken and unconquered. The Darkwater family and the Redoubt we rule predate the Compact and the Thrax, and we have been in that time, ever loyal. Ever faithful.
In that time, The house of Darkwater has seen upheavals and betrayals. It has seen rebellions and invasions. It has seen the abandoned swarm and the prodigals return. It has seen large men of small imagination, and small men of expansive design. We have seen regicide and sedition. Fratricide and treason. We have seen great houses fall and minor houses rise.
But we have never seen such a rank betrayal of the People as displayed by Dominius Fawkul. Such a patently political move designed to seize power in a time of confusion and need. I say this as a corsair, a raider, as a reaver - I have never seen such naked -greed-.
I was present when the Regency council voted on the matter of the Teind. I saw no presence by the Dominius.
I was there when we wrestled with the cost presented and I watched as the High Lords took the burden of that decision upon themselves. I heard no words of council from the Dominius. Never once the words Excommunication, never once Censure, never once any word of objection from the church in the forum by whch such objections are designed to be made known.
If there is moral failure, if there is ethical abdication, if there a breach of covenant to be present in this situation?
It is on the part of the Dominius.
As for Darkwater Watch?
Our eyes remain on the deeps, faithful in our watch.
Our banners will answer the house of Thrax when called. Our ships will sail and our drums will thunder when called. Our men will march and our sheilds will clash when called. We are men of our vows.
- By my hand,
Maximilian Darkwater
Count of the Watch.
