In Honor of our Union
Posted by Margot on 03/01/17
Let the it be known that in honor of the union between myself and Duke Dagon Tyde I now decree the following shall be true within the holdings of Tyde:
On thralls:
1. The debts of any Tyde thralls who wish to leave the household to join the temples of Vellichor or Magnata as godsworn are here by immediately forgiven and our blessings go with them.
2. All remaining Tyde thralls serving in Arx will now be housed as would paid servents in any other Ducal household and provided with the same curtesies and freedoms as such (so long as they pose no danger to the family or compact, or engage in further criminal activity) and a comparable wage to that of a paid servant will be applied to their debts monthly. Once their debts are paid, should their service have been satisfactory they shall be allowed to continue in their positions as free citizens if they wish to do so.
3. Thralls who have not yet reached the age of majority shall here by be educated rather than put to labour such that when they leave Our service they have the means to support themselves without returning to the criminal activities that brought them to Our service. Upon mastering literacy as well as a trade or skill to a professional level their debts shall here by be forgiven (provided they have not engaged in further criminal activity) and should they wish to remain in Our service they may do so as free and paid person.
4. Any child born to a thrall shall be considered a free person and will not be punished for the misdeeds of their parents. So long as their parents are in service of the Tyde family their needs and education shall be provided by the Tyde family.
On inheritance:
While it may seem strange for a woman leading her own lands to say as much, I am a traditionalist, I believe strongely in order and the notion that we all have our roles. For as long as any can remember the daughters of the isles have been educated, in matters of state, politics, economics, law while the sons of the isles have trained in tactics, martial arts, sailing, and leadership. I wish to be clear that I have no desire to disturb this order.
Still, I have learned from my recent experience that both halves are needed to create an effective whole. And such, I shall acknowledge the right of my future daughters and sons equally to succeed me, with the provision that that success, for either gender, requires they be married to such a partner.
Should I pass before my children may grow to adulthood and wed, their father will hold Regency until that time. Should their father pass before that time, their aunt, Princess Donella Thrax shall be responsible for their care and holdings until the eldest has grown to the age of majority and wed.
