Good Morning, Arx
Posted by Alaric on 06/29/17
Three years ago, a callow boy rode forth with his retinue from Arx, in the hopes he could avoid irritating House Thrax by speaking on matters of succession in a place none would look for him, visiting a forbidden place that we had long forgotten called the Night Grove. While the boy fell into a coma, in truth I would prefer to say he died those three years ago- and in his place now is a king.
Much has been left unattended, a war has been fought while I slumbered, and the Compact suffered and bled for my actions. My days will be spent making amends for that.
To the highlords, I thank them all for their patience and wisdom in the past three years, and able to wake to a Compact that is still whole- with divisions and frictions, no doubt, but whole none the less. We will need the five of you to show that strength in the days to come if we are to keep a hard won peace.
To the Faith of the Pantheon, you endured times that would test any man's faith. A power mad dominus that excommunicated highlords and sought to twist the Compact to his will, and to the Siege of Arx, when true horrors were brought to our doorstep. And through it all, the Faith endured. The crown owes much to Legate Orazio and Dominus Aldwin for their leadership in the past years.
To the Inquisition and Iron Guard, you both purged the corruption in your ranks. I am not the same idealistic young man that would believe all of it is gone, but I faith in our Lord Commander and Master of Questions, to make them true institutions of the Crown that will serve the needs of Arvum.
To the King's Own. You are the best of us, and I will never forget who fought and fell around me.
To all the Peers of Arvum. All the nobles of Arvum have bled for me, either of their own body or the men and women that owe their vows. I am not foolish to believe that peace will be easy to hold, but I will strive to the end of my days to make those sacrifices meaningful.
To the commons- you will never be forgotten. As Arx endures, we will remember who suffers most in times of strife, and why hardwon peace must be preserved.
Good morning Arx, I'm glad to be back.
