Restoring the Doctrine of the Faith
Posted by Orazio on 09/21/17
To the faithful worshipers of the Pantheon, people of the Compact:
These last few years have been a time of trials, of sorrow, and of loss. But they have also been a time of revelations and the reclamation of knowledge thought lost to the mists of history. We have rediscovered the Lost Gods, and welcomed them once again to their rightful place in the Pantheon. We have uncovered stories of heroism and faith that were only breathed of in children's tales, and we have discovered that they carried a core of truth with them. We have even uncovered the Faith's own history of exorcism, and the danger of dark writs which once enslaved the wills and minds of people.
In that spirit, and with the understanding that Vellichor and the Sentinel demand us to embrace truth and knowledge where it can be found, regardless of its convenience or comfort, another restoration must take place.
By my authority and duty as the Legate of Concepts, I have reviewed ancient texts and spoken with scholars about wisdom both long-known and newly discovered, and believe that a revision to the Laws of Limerance is both right and just - namely, restoring the original wording to ban not all magical practices, but those practices which are antithetical to the Faith and the gods: namely, Abyssal magics, and congress with Abyssal beings. The Faith stands firm against any traffic with the Abyss, for any reason, and views blood magic as dangerous and inadvisable to attempt. This is a matter of historical veracity, not endorsement - the Faith does not support charlatans, fortune tellers, and other frauds who would play on the hopes and dreams of their fellow humans, and continues to view such predatory works and practices as sinful and against the desires of the gods.
But it is clear that in our brightest histories, the Faith explored the use and theory of magic, through exorcism and other works, and it would be against the virtues we hold dear to hide that knowledge simply because it may create uncomfortable conversations throughout the Compact. Thus, the new wording of the Fourth Law shall be: "Dealing with those beyond the Mirror brought the Reckoning. Magic from Abyssal sources, or traffic with Abyssal beings or their servants, must never again be permitted. This is the fidelity between men and the gods."
May the Thirteen guide our hearts, our minds, and our actions as we move forward and reclaim truth, no matter how difficult it may be:
By my hand and authority,
