Reclaiming the Sword of Southport
Posted by Calypso on 02/20/18
In the past week I have accepted the resignation of Master Costas Voducce from his position as the Sword of Southport. The blade that was in his possession, meant only to spill blood in honor and defense of this House, has been taken back to free his hands for prayer. Costas has submitted himself to the Faith under Legate Orazio’s guidance to serve penance for his error in judgement. I watch closely and with great expectation as he undertakes this process of redemption in the sight of the gods and the community of the Faithful.
When one has transgressed it is simple, tempting, and satisfying to consider only the action which deserves reproach. To see just that one moment in a life. I appeal to those who would judge Master Costas; see not only his failure in a misguided act of hubris. See also a man who has defended his Liege countless times in battle and from the blades of cowardly assassins. Who fought valiantly in defense of the City of Arx and who, when the same enemy now approaching our shores rose once before to bring destruction and sorrow, led the ships of the Compact in battle at sea so that triumph could be assured in the field. When a good sword has been chipped, rusted and worn by misuse it is not to be cast aside into the dirt. It is to be honed and reinforced or, if need be, reforged into something stronger.
We hope that this will be a pivotal moment for Costas in his journey. This time is one of great importance for both Liege and Vassal to reflect on the teachings of Limerance and the upholding of Oaths. His failure has tested the pledge made to House Malvici, but I maintain confidence that he has the capacity to find redemption through sincere and contrite penance.

A heart which truly seeks judgment, repentance, and the renewal both bring shall find them.
