Resignation of Archlector Aleksei
Posted by Orazio on 06/17/18
To the Faithful of the Compact:
It is with great sorrow that I am led to announce that Sir Aleksei, once Brother and Archlector of Freedom Aleksei, has tendered his resignation to the Church, and asked to be released from his vows as godsworn, due to certain personal needs. Understand that it is expected that when a person pledged themselves to the Faith and the gods, the expectation is that this a lifelong pledge, which allows nothing and no one to stand before their obedience and dedication to the Faith and the Faithful. A resignation is, thus, not something which is granted lightly, nor without grave contemplation and prayer.
After having taken time to make that contemplation, and to meditate upon those prayers, I have made the decision to accept Sir Aleksei's resignation. As of this moment, he is no longer a Brother of the Faith, and bears no authority in the Church's name, nor speaks in any way as a servant of the gods. In the Church's mercy, he has been returned his personal possessions which he brought to the Faith, but will receive no further salary nor benefits as a member of the Faith. Further, regardless of the reason, to resign one's position is to break a vow that was sworn for a lifetime. This cannot go unaddressed.
Thus, in my capacity as Legate of Concepts, I lay the following penance upon Sir Aleksei: He will spend the next thirteen days, starting at the break of dawn on the morrow, as a kneeling supplicant outside the Shrine of Limerance, there to contemplate the meaning of fidelity, and of swearing an oath that one fails to keep. He may drink only water. He may consume only broth for sustenance, and that only on every third day. He may not leave his position of supplication for any need or desire, nor may he accept aid outside the fetching of water or broth from any passersby. Through this ordeal, he shall pray for the forgiveness of the gods, and for the strength to hold fast to his next oaths. As a further consequence, Sir Aleksei will not be accepted to any Discipleship of the Faith until further notice.
By my hand and authority,
Father Orazio, Legate of Concepts, Shield of the Faith
--- Amadeo Stance (from Duarte) ---
I do believe my faith in the Faith as a sort of custodian of Oaths and Vows is waning.
