Silence: Lower Borough Hunt pt 2

Last time, a well known Lagoma Lantern holding and a second holy water wielding Iron Guard, the rope cutter Culler, a perfectly poised roof jumping Wyrmguard Marquessa, a healing Godsworn Sister, a vengeful with a weighty arm Thrax, and a busy body Bouncer tough took the Hunt for Bringers to the tightly packed shanty row. Their Hunt ended with an explosion that destroyed one of the houses in the area, a seriously injured Iron Guard and a few good fireside stories to tell! But it's not over. There's still an ominous presence here and there in the Lowers and certainly more bodies surfacing! So the Hunt continues for the Bringers and any of their ilk that escaped into the Lower Boroughs, bringing violence and terror to those who remain.

This scene will be restricted in size based on a first come first serve, with no more than 6-8 characters due to GM needing sanity! Priority are granted to those posted at the Graveyard, with two spots reserved already! If you've not had any opportunity to get involved with the Crisis main events or smaller PrPs, @mail me so I can take that into consideration.

Sparte wields a massive, two handed Claymore with quatrefoil guards.

Ferrando wields Negotiation, a flanged alaricite mace.

Felix wields a keen elven glaive.

GM Rules:

1) Have fun! If you're not sure about something ask! (This is only my second GM scened here, so bare with me!)
2) If you have any history/secrets/mana things that you want to use for the Bringer Hunt, you will be asked to make an individual roll to get the results of effectiveness. You may not know the effectiveness ICly but I will communicate to you if successful how it factors in. For instance, Sparte gained a +7 to his damage for his successful Lagoma Lantern blessing (mana roll). (Ps. I don't have all the details on Bringers so you should only use these mana related items if you've discovered it works ICLY)
3) Each enemy already has HP and Attack Damage assigned to them. There are variations of Baddies.
4) NPC guards/retainers will not be included at this time! Apologies but this scene is for PC vs NPC Enemies Only!
5) Single STAT rolls are to be rolled at 7 unless otherwise advised.
6) Damage will be worked out with math (see combat) so please keep track of your HP if you get any! I will not be judging or enforcing injury, miaming, or any death. That's up to you!

For Combat:

Please Provide: Armor Mitigation Stat, Weapon Damage, and Weapon Flat Damage

Each round consists of an attack roll and a defense roll from every person.
*** Please Roll, Wait for Results OOCly, then Pose. Wait for GM Pose. Rinse. Repeat. ***
-------------------------------
Normal Attack: Dex+Wpn Skill at Difficulty set by GM.
Damage Determined by: #ShowsForResultHigher X Weapon Damage + Weapon Flat Damage
Normal Defense: Dex+Dodge at Difficulty set by GM.
If Failed on Damage Roll: Result is a MISS
If Failed on Defense Roll: Result Lower is X5 = damage taken, mitigated by a Stamina + Survival

Critical Attack: Double the difficulty, but will result in 2.5 X Weapon Damage X Successes

Felix wields Knights of Solace Warhammer.

Sparte drops --- Orathy's Storytelling In Progress (Read) ---.

Cassius wields Sanctuary's Avenger.

There's a heavy fog rolling in, curling around the row after row of headstones, with darkness having crept in long ago, dropping the temperature on the winter night to freezing, where one's breath can be seen in a misted plume. With so much having occured in such a little time since the siege began, who would ever thing that a little fog could be troublesome? However, it is ominous, almost unnatural, rising thick in the distances, masking the world and creeping ever closer toward the circular fence around the pits.

Ferrando checked perception + investigation against difficulty 25, resulting in 14, 11 lower than the difficulty.

Costas checked perception + investigation against difficulty 25, resulting in 19, 6 lower than the difficulty.

Ferrando has been stalking the Lowers since the incursion and siege began, doing his part to push back against the constant inflitration attempts the Bringers have been making. While the Graveyard wasn't necessarily the next thing on his self-appointed patrol, the definitely ominious fog has him headed this way to check it out warily. His careful inspection reveals that it's definitely, uh, foggy. Good to know.

Mathias checked perception against difficulty 10, resulting in 11, 1 higher than the difficulty.

Sparte is there in full armor with the Iron Guard's sigil emblazoned upon his back. He has a small lantern with him, this time hanging from a loop on the left side of his belt. A bullseye lantern, shining plenty of light into the fog and effectively making sure he sees all of a foot in front of his face. At least that foot won't sneak up on him. He comments idly. "Well this is exciting and all, but we're going to walk into an open grave before we see anything. Feel the air, it is always colder when they're near."

Sparte checked perception + investigation against difficulty 25, resulting in 10, 15 lower than the difficulty.

Mathias stands in a relatively relaxed stance, his greatsword resting on his shoulder, guarding the way to the Pit with his fellow Knights of Solace. His eyes were unfocused as they looked out into the dark, perhaps lost in thought, but the growing fog in the distance does get his attention rather quickly. "So... Reckon that ain't a good sign." he casually states, though the sharpness of his eyes is nothing but.

"Just some fog," Cassius grumbles out, at Mathias. "And now I'd explain that it happens down here often enough, but you know that," he says. Then a pause. "Still unnerving as all fuck," he adds to his grumbling. The big Duke of Setarco is standing, fully armored, waiting, staring.

Possessed by a strange restlessness this night, Costas had been lurking about the Lower in a general state of alertness. Southport Square had its own guards on stacked patrols, he'd verified the few other nobles he gave a toss about had their own protections, and so if there was any place he could possibly be it was here. Where so little had been done to protect those most vulneable.

Though for all that, a man needs some occupation on a long watch. And so when right when it mattered, the rogue stopped in the wind-refuge of an alley to spark up a rolled haze cigarillo.

Felix checked perception + investigation against difficulty 25, resulting in 22, 3 lower than the difficulty.

Felix nods in agreement with Cassius, clad in his own shining scale armor. The tall smith-turned-knight squints his eyes at the fog, but he sees nothing amiss himself. The warhammer is held in hand to give his back a bit of a break, regardless, but he doesn't seem particularly concerned about the fog.

Those who had thought they were on the trail of something, find the fog playing a part in losing tracks or directional sense, especially if they weren't familiar with the Lowers. Those already at the Pit, guarding it, will eventually see the others coming up the road. Sparte for sure, will be spotted by Mathias and Cassius. The latter will also see the shape of Ferrando wandering through the fog that's turning misty and soupy, so that one doesn't exactly know who is yards away from. It could be fairly easy to lose someone in the fog. The sounds of rattling chains can be heard. From one direction, then the next. It's rather confusing, maybe those guarding it were the ones to bump into it?

"Aye. And the Bringers showed up at the walls covered by that sort of fog." Mathias points out. "Better safe than sorry. They already tried sneaking past once." But then the fog reveals... Sparte. Mathias might have relaxed some were it not for the chains beginning their rattle, and he glances back in their directions... and stabs at the place where the chains rattled closest to him. Not with the full strength of his arms, almost poking rather than a true thrust of the greatsword. He's faced invisible Bringers before, and they don't have the living flashlight to reveal them as they had on that occasion.

Cassius lets out an agitated noise as he spots people approaching from the fog. He squints, but it's hard to say if he recognizes them. At least Sparte and Ferrando are probably not Bringers. He then looks back and forth, at the noises, and finally to Mathias. "You check that way," he says, gesturing. "Meadson, check the other side. I'll stay posted here," he orders out. As the fog continues to roll in, he sucks in a harsh breath, and shivers. Out comes Sanctuary's Avenger, the perfected diamondplate blade he carries. "Alright, definitely not normal fog," he growls out, with confidence.

Ferrando frowns at the fog's very effective visibility reduction. "Be on guard!" he calls out. "Been tracking something headed here to the graveyard, but I've lost it in this blasted fog. It's unlikely to be friendly." He pauses, trying to get himself oriented so he knows at least which way it pit-ward and which is back to the Lowers, placing himself in his general mental map of the area.

There's the sound of a sword being pulls from its' sheathe as the armored figure of Tobias heads in the direction of the graveyard. "Bringers!" Tobias shouts as he brings up his Alaricite sword, Requiem coming up into a balanced fighting stance as he heads for the pit from the outside.

"Wait, what?" Sparte heads towards where Tobias shouted, turning in place a moment before turning and following after the sound of his movement. Well, mostly. He charges into the wrong patch of darkness, twice. At least he keeps getting closer.

Felix nods his head towards Cassius. "Got it," he says, hefting his warhammer to choke up on it a bit. The weapon is then held in both hands as he moves 'round to the other side to check out the disturbance. At the mention of it being no normal fog, the smith does look back to raise a brow, but says nothing more. Instead, he sets his eyes forward and continues his path. The sudden call of Bringers has him tightening his grip on his weapon and looking very closely at the fog.

At the sound of a man's shout Costas peers out from the alley he'd be loitering in, canting his head to listen for more sounds of alarm but not yet discarding the joint in his fingers. He didn't have a fancy masterwork sword but his leaf was top-shelf.

As Cassius gives orders to check the fence and words arise that it was not a natural fog, another voice hales through the fog of Bringers. Mathias' sword will thrust at air. The fog only gets thicker. In short order it might become so thick that it'll be hard to see what's in front of someone's face, let alone if that something is invisible. However, with so many people wandering around in a graveyard, a shadow could be a harmless person. How far does someone trust a shadow near to them before swinging at it?

Shadows appear. Many of them. Are they other people? Are they the enemy? Are they your friends? Choices:

Think First: Wits+Survival at 15

Act First: Dexterity+Wpn at 30 (Could hit a friendly)

Dodge: Dexterity+Dodge at 15 (someone could be swinging at you)

Ferrando grits his teeth in mild frustration as the fog only gets worse. Rather than blindly stumbling around, he crouches and backs into a solid headstone for cover and seeks to erase his presence and observe before acting.

For those with magical senses... the fog is so thick and heavy, well, nothing but your own head on your shoulders to rely on

"Well, at least they're not at the bloody fence." Mathias mutters, resting the blade of his greatsword back on his shoulder. But the fog doesn't let up. Only gets worse. Probably a good thing they built up a fence, or else he suspects many people would be falling in the Pit on this night. Still, he checks /that/ way as much as he can... which, with a fog like that, isn't great. Instead of looking through the fog, he tries to use his other senses, his hearing especially. The heavy footsteps of his knight brothers, he recognizes. By now he should be further back from where the new arrivals have come from. Can he hear, sense, any presence close to him that he does not recognize? He steadies his breathing, until it is almost silent. And listens.

"Well now we're just walking in soup." Sparte has the debatable benefit of having brought a light source. He isn't taking swings at anyone, instead just continuing to move around. "Everyone, the bringers of silence seem to like hiding and being quiet a lot, yeah? Well stick this tune in a bucket to die because they'll be the only mute ones left in the fog." And so he starts up a la-de-la with a popular nursery rhyme tune. Simple, basic, off key so bad even his mother would wince. But music. Probably not helping Mathias, not that he knew what the other man was doing.

Mathias checked dexterity + dodge against difficulty 15, resulting in 60, 45 higher than the difficulty.

Felix is walking on the far side of the fence opposite Mathias, still peering into the fog. Despite this being a supernatural fog, it's certainly nothing he's seen before. The smith peers at it, but is likely unaware and taken by surprise if any sort of attack comes for him. Felix glances back over his shoulder briefly to see if Cassius has any further orders, but then it's right back to peering into this thickening fog.

Cassius sees the shadows starting to spread and feels that unnatural taint to it all. And then Sparte is singing? Cassius just lets out a low sigh, then lifts up his own lantern. No swinging, no ducking, no dodging. The big Duke focuses on a prayer. "Lagoma, Goddess of Fire, come to your faithful servants now, as the darkness approaches. Shine your sacred light upon us, and grant us your wisdom. Reveal to us those who mean harm and those who are friends," Cassius says, in a loud, stern voice.

Ferrando patiently waits, and is rewarded with the swish of footfalls shuffling against the ground ahead of him and a brief sight of motion behind the fog. Judging from the unnatural swish and slide to the movement, he is convinced that he can attack with no compunctions, and rising up with mace in hand he goes to strike it down hard.

When further shouting, singing, and praying comes from the direction of the graveyard, Costas flicks the cigarillo off into the mist and heads in that direction at a run. Once it's clear there's some kind of ruckus going down he slows up, carefully closing the last bit of distance in quiet readiness. A single lithe vault takes him up and over the fence to the cemetary proper, and he lands in a low crouch, approaching by stealth.

Costas checked dexterity + stealth against difficulty 15, resulting in 41, 26 higher than the difficulty.

So it begins. The fog has stolen the lights of the lanterns that were set out, ripped away the cast of a pale moon and the stars. The darkness was all consuming, devouring the senses and tricking the mind. Sparte's song doesn't do much more than illuminate exactly where he was, to all, and to a tombstone that he dodges away from. Felix feels the wrath of the night for certain, ripping the silence open with the tearing of flesh as wicked claws make their claim to the Knight of the Solace. Chains rattle. The shadow around Mathias breaks into something real, a sound of a weapon sailing by, that he's capable of dodging thankfully, the hand holding the blade pale and catching the light of Cassius' lantern - a lantern that helps break up the fog, illuminating a small patch of grass around the man. Tobias meanwhile, his weapon will sink into something heavy and meaty and doesn't give a damn sound when it's struck. Ferrando will have that something unfriendly in front of him, but it will fight back. Again no sound.

The attack on the Pit is done with the ominous weight of silence in the unending blackness. Only Cassius' lantern gives a beacon of hope this time, as Sparte's is soon snuffed out by some wicked presence.

The claw that comes from the darkness takes Felix completely by surprise, knocking the man back a step or two as scales are torn away along with flesh. A loud, anguished shout emits from the man followed by a pained growl. There's just a moment to let his gaze dart around and the knight uses it to examine his current surroundings. The lights from Cassius' lantern is beacon enough for the man. Rather than lashing back out into the darkness, the large man opts to take a defensive position and begin to fall back towards that light. "Got one over here!" he manages to grunt out, mostly through clenched teeth.

The bad singing stops (Praise the thirteen) and is replaced by Sparte laughing to himself for a moment before he sighs. "Critics. Right, I'll leave the singing to my sword." He shifts his claymore, taking a combat stance. "Sentinel and Gild, stand with us as we face the foes of order and civilization. Gloria, guide my hand against them, and let my inability to be quiet guide anyone who isn't a bringer well out of reach."

Cassius checked dexterity + medium wpn against difficulty 15, resulting in 40, 25 higher than the difficulty.

Ferrando rises up to try and knock the shadowy figure ahead of him out of the fight with a single shot, but having gone more for power than precision in the fog seems to have been a mistake because his mace whistles through empty air. Spinning to the side as he tries to catch his balance, he evades a return swipe of claw and gathers himself up to try and figure out where in the nearly impenetrable fog the whatever-he's-facing is standing.

Costas checked dexterity + medium wpn against difficulty 30, resulting in 73, 43 higher than the difficulty.

*Squish* That's the sound of Requiem going through something meaty next to him. Given no sounds coming from it, Tobias just disengages and moves on towards Cassius, grunts a bit as if in pain. "Too much shit here." Tobias growls evenly as he clanks over, keeping his balanced posture going.

Mathias, despite not seeing a damn thing, is still able to dodge out of the way of the thing that attacks him, Bringer, he assumes from the pale hand. "Bringer here too!" he calls out, both hands on the hilt of his greatsword as he steps forward with a thrust of the long blade. It makes contact, and punches through the thing's throat, severing the spine, before Mathias' movement moves the sword along, and severs the monster's head from its shoulders. "Bringer dead!" he calls out again, now focusing on reaching for Cassius' light, and deal with the Bringers still standing.

Cassius holds his lantern high, allowing it to cast as much light as possible. If there's any surprise that it's the only lantern still lit, well, it doesn't show on the Knight's face. He just lets out a low growl, and takes two steps foward, as Felix retreats. His blade comes up and he slashes at the now apparent Bringer that's after Felix.

As Costs steals up on the outskirts of the battle he clocks a group of five hanging back from the main line. Reinforcements or flankers or..

It didn't matter. Dead men, his combat high told him. Potential complications for the men on the frontline.

The warrior steals up behind the group, his abyss-black leather concealing him from their sight until it was too late. Only the soft click of his blade's first inch clearing the scabbard gives any warning before one of the enemies falls, opened up from stem to stern.

The call of Bringers confirms the fears of those around the Pit. Sounds of fighting break through the fog. There's cries of anguish and frustration, of battle cries as men around the graveyard fight what they cannot see. True instincts of a warrior are needed and with the help of Cassius' lantern, the silhouettes become clear. One looming tall form with the flickering of claws for hands stands before Felix, another of the same size meets Tobias in battle. A smaller normal looking man splits open under Mathias' weapon. Ferrando looks as if he could be facing a Shav! And Costas suddenly got four of them drawing arms, as it appears Costas has turned the tables on that smaller group skulking behind to watch the Bringers weedle away at the defenders.

The flicker of claws, as the brute looms over him, catch him in the upper chest and pierce through Felix's scale armor, tearing away at the scales. The brute lifts him with both of those claws and tosses him to the ground. He rolls a couple of times, warhammer thudding to the ground and then he sprawls out limp and unconscious. Bleeding. Ferrando can finally identify his opponent in the lantern light as one of the corrupted Shavs. He grunts as he blocks the shav's blade aside with his shield, and stepping in to the opening that gives Ferrando puts the Shav out of his misery with a brutal head shot from his mace. Looking around quickly, he tries to identify his next opponent, and seeing what looks like something tearing into Felix he shouts in dismay and starts to head for that thing next.

Felix goes down, and Cassius lets out a deep growl. The lantern still held high, he slashes at the Bringer once more. Again, it lands true, and there's that delightful sizzle of diamondplate meeting unholy flesh. As the Bringer turns and swipes, Cassius steps aside easily enough.

Sparte can see something in the fog, another lantern's light. One that didn't go out - and not his, this time. Plus they're fighting something, and that makes the situation clear enough for Sparte to spring over and take a swipe at the bringer facing Cassius. "Hello there! May I cut in?" He hits the ground like he is going to do impromptu push ups, ducking under a swipe before shoving himself back up to a crouch with his blade at the ready.

Clank. Clank. Swing. Clank. Clang. Tobias is obviously in a protracted fight with a Bringer, but the armored Crimson Blade General is holding his own, at least. Sword swings hit air, and claws his armor brought up to deflect and soak the hits as Tobias continues to look for openings, Requiem reflecting the light of the lantern easily enough.

Mathias makes it in time to join Cassius' efforts in taking down the Bringer that already badly wounded Felix, though he's not able to repeat his previous feat in splitting the thing's head open, instead able to only deliver a cut with his greatsword. However, he takes place to flank the creature, with Cassius, Sparte and he on opposing sides of the Bringer. "Less puns, more killing the bastard." he replies, his tone calm, his eyes focused, deep in his battle trance.

Four blades slipped free from their homes as the man Costas had cut down dropped to the ground, but by the time the enemy was armed the black-clad warrior had shifted position, only the swirling fog leaving sign of his passing. Two followed into the darkness but found themselves striking at air, unable to pin down their assailant. The hungry shadow ducks beneath one swinging sword and moves past with cold grace, dragging his blade along the shav's side and opening a deep wound. The redsteel of Whip's Lament glints briefly in in the moonlight as it then arcs upward and through the neck of the next enemy.

Amongst the shadows, another Shav falls to the blades of Costas, while another staggers near by, wounded severely and yet to fall. Two more anticipate the attacks to come though stand back to back with weapons drawn. The Blighted Bringer by Tobias is still swathed in darkness, only glimpses of pale flesh seen against the smothering darkness when Cassius' lantern is heaved and spreads light beyond his ring of defense. Felix, downed by the one corrupted form, is almost stepped on as the Bringer viciously attacks, face while appearing a man of normal origins is paled by corruption that extends it's hands into wicked blade like claws.

Something else rattles the chains of the pit, from behind Cassius, effectively flanking. Two more Shavs appear against the illumination of the lantern, to attack the group rallying around the one Bringer in which felled Felix.

They wanted the Pit.

Clank, Clank, swosh, *squish*. Tobias manages to land a hit on the Bringers he's dueling, his Alaricite sword sinking deep into the flesh of the Bringers arm, barely allowing an opening for the other arm to swip at the small spot at his elbow joint where that's only paddding. Tobias gives a grunt as he gets a clawed flesh wound, getting back into the duel as he pulls the blade back out and resumes finding an opening in the Bringers defense. "Sort of busy here, or I'd help." No quipping there.

Cassius checked stamina + survival against difficulty 15, resulting in 27, 12 higher than the difficulty.

Ferrando starts to rush towards the Bringer that hit Felix but sees past it in the lantern light a pair of Shavs approaching to try and flank the knights. Deciding that is not a tactical development he should let stand unopposed, he quickly alters course and hops the fence to go try and interpose himself between them and the others. "Flankers!" he yells out, blocking a hard strike from one with his shield before he caves in the Shav's chest with his mace. Unfortunately, he can't stop the other one before it gets by and swings a blade at Cassius.

Cassius continues his battle with this Bringer, swinging hard all while holding that lantern high and proud! See, this is why those huge weapon guys are just wrong! Can't hold a lantern! He scores a good hit, and then sees Mathias land another. As the creature goes slack, Cassius doesn't celebrate. Orders are already coming out. "Coaldust, on me! Backing Tobias," he growls out. "Guardsman!-" That's Sparte. Before he can finish the order, he's turning, and CLACK! goes a blade off his back. "Kill that fuck!" Cassius orders, and then turns off himself to back up Tobias.

This time Mathias manages a proper thrust with his greatsword, the rubicund blade piercing the thing's back, spine cut from the forty-two inches of red steel punching through. He has to kick the Bringer off the blade before he's able to nod to Cassius. "Aye." is his laconic acknowledgment, but acknowledgment it is. Following Cassius, he heads to support Tobias.

"Too slow." Costas curses under his breath as two of his three remaining opponents crumpled to the ground. His strike against the third had come a hair late, been an inch off the mark as he wove past their steel with fluid alacrity. He could hear the shav shuffling around behind him now; only a near-kill. Turning to face the wounded one, Costas' head tilted slightly, cold stormblue eyes peering out from the dark of his hood. Observing the site of the wound with detached calculation.

"Too slow." He repeated. More practice would be called for.

The fog starts to dissipate rather rapidly as the Bringer that brought down Felix is in turn, stabbed utterly to death by the combination of efforts not only to attack it, but to keep the flankers off the group . Save for one who gets around Ferrando's attempt to counter them, managing to get in close enough to strike out at Cassius. The remaining Flanker turns to pivot on Ferrando. The Bringer upon Tobias now is revealed for what it is, a hulking form of flesh not yet twisted in ways that they can be, but one that could blend in with any face here. The arms of the thing though, that was what was corrupt, fingers turned into long wicked weapons and the creature moving with precision, keeping Tobias on his toes.

Fog receeds, until it's about ankle level... and the glow of lanterns builds in the graveyard, giving at long last, light to the situation. Shadows beyond even where Costas was, retreat, another group fleeing before they are even engaged. What's left is two Shavs and a Bringer to face the remaining defenders!

With an utter lack of regard for the situation, Sparte hums to himself as he fights with Cassius and Mathias with the Bringer. His blades comes close - very close at times - but he just isn't quite fast enough to make contact. At least until two other finish it off, then he stabs it while it is on the ground just because, well. Because. He looks up in time to see Cassius' new attacker, but not to warn the other man. He is happy to take the instructions given. "Consider them dead. Again. Since they look -" A huff. "Killing it."

Ferrando is about to turn and face the second flanker when Sparte rolls in behind the Shav and just levels him with a big claymore slash. Figuring that will be good enough to do him in (although as it turns out he was wrong and the Shav is barely hanging in there, oops!), Ferrando instead bolts for the last Bringer to try and help take it down. It's a little crowded around the monster however and he isn't able to get a clean hit in, although neither does the clawlike hand of the Bringer punch through Ferrando's armor when he fails to get his shield up in time to block its massive swipe aimed all the foes surrounding it.

Sparte hops up and over to deal with the flanking shav gracefully, like a bear in a metal suit told there was honey waiting for him in a tree. And Sparte hits that shav with enough force to tear a chunk out of a tree. He even starts to walk off looking for the next one when the shav takes a swing at him he easily dodges. "What, really? I'm impressed!" He raises his blade back to the ready with a laugh. "You're a sturdy little unholy abomination, let's see how sturdy!"

Mathias soon reaches the last remaining Bringer, and continuing his successful dodging streak, manages to avoid all harm to himself once more, while giving the creature a well placed stab with his greatsword. Once more, he tries to flank it, with Tobias and Cassius hopefully on opposite sides of the Bringer. He doesn't speak up, doesn't boast, doesn't joke. His eyes are on the enemy, entirely focused.

Cassius leads the march over to Tobias and the monster he faces. "Ours is the victory, Hers is the glory!" he calls out, then makes a big slash against the Bringer. When the thing makes a counter attack and slashes at him, Cassius moves, sort of, but mostly lets the claws glance off his plate mail.

The last remaining shav, wounded, hurls himself at Costas and the leatherbound warrior heaves a sigh of frustration as he deflects the attack's momentum to the side and rolls past. The serpentine edge of Whip's Lament rattles the enemy's blade as it pulls away, defeating the attempt to come back to guard. As if it mattered. Costas is already moving away as the shav realizes a final blow has been struck and falls to his knees, clutching a throat overflowing deep crimson. His long strides carry him swiftly toward the where the others are fighting, gaining speed.

The Bringer left in the field of battle had taken a giantic sweep of it's claws in an arcing sweep toward the sudden cluster of defenders that leap toward it in response. Still silence. Deadly precision. When face with more than one combatant, it starts to become even more aggressive, reckless even, as if whipped by Lord Brand itself to kill, kill, kill.

That last Flanker shav... not entirely dealt with by Ferrando, starts to come forward, brandishing a weapon. No self preservation at all, the Shav will look to Sparte, weapon poised.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. The field of battle hasn't been rejoined and the fog, is completely gone.

Sparte pushes the now armless and legless shav over with one boot. "You're tough, so maybe you're still alive! If you are we'll let a DOCTOR play with you next." He says it like that is a far scarier force than anything in the bringer army. And with the same glib step he turns to start over towards the murder machine bringer fighting everyone else at once. "You guys need a hand? I've got a few extra over here." Cocky little Iron Guard.

Despite the fury exhibited by the Bringer, Mathias continues to avoid all attacks, dodging out of the way, and answering in kind with a well-placed thrust. An opening even allows him a second strike, but alas, the thing keeps on going. Still, he doesn't show any signs of frustration, remaining alert, letting his allies have their shot at finally bringing down the beast.

Costas lines up for a killing blow as he comes up behind the distracted Bringer, sure of the open opportunity.

Then he hears Sparte over to the side and, for all his cold killer instinct, can't help but snicker, fouling his strike.

Sparte checked dexterity + huge wpn against difficulty 45, resulting in 40, 5 lower than the difficulty.

There's no art to it. Just mindless stabbing and cutting and reducing the thing to a paste. Not that Mathias minds, he cares only for the result. Which is one more dead Bringer, in pieces. "That all of them?" He looks around, just to make sure. Once more, the blood on his armour isn't his. Once more, he walks out of a fight against those things without a scratch on him. He tries not to think too much about what kind of backlash he's setting himself up with that kind of luck.

Cassius takes another swing at the wounded monster, and it goes a bit wide. Damn thing is spasming too much to hit. He growls out, and then the others are there, slashing at it. He just shoves a blade forward, to ensure it's good and dead. Fancy metal and all, helpful in the 'staying dead' part. Even if Tobias has fancy metal, too. Cassius draws back his blade. "Gods above..." he says, then sucks in a breath. "Coaldust, we need to get Meadson to the House of Solace. Guardsman!" he shouts, at Sparte. "Good work. Now go inform Silas that a few more shavs broke off when they saw us," he says. No, there's no rest to be had here, no victory to celebrate. Just more work to do. "Lord Tobias," he gives a grunt. "Think you can support while we gather bodies to burn?" he asks. Finally, to Costas. "I trust you'll make sure the shavs don't get far?" he asks the man. He means the ones that ran off, before engaging, of course.

Sparte does a quick double swipe across the back of his arm before sheathing his blade. "Right away, sir." He goes back over to the legless and armless shav, picking him up and putting him over one shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Then without anything further said to those in attendance, he is making a quick pace off to bring word to the Lord Commander. Whatever could he plan to do with that thing?

As the knights and crew hack the creature to death Costas drifts back a few paces, content to watch the grim work with only a glance or two round to confirm that no reinforcements were coming.

"We'll get them." Costas responds on Cassius prompting, his voice a low rasp edged with the not-yet-abated hunger for further violence. Eventually his fingers relax their grip on his weapon and he flicks the blade sharply to the side, casting off an arc of blood from the redsteel. The weapon slipped home the rogue fishes a little brass case from his long-coat and fingers loose a cigarillo, stormblue eyes going placid as he looks round, counting bodies.

Mathias grunts in acknowledgment to Cassius, and steps over to where Felix fell, sheathing his greatsword in the process. "All right, time to get ye to a nice bed and some pretty Mercies." he tells Felix as he prepares to carry him along to the House of Solace. In a stretcher, as to avoid making the unconscious man's wounds any worse. "Ye going to write a report to the Knight-Captain, or do ye want me to do it?" he asks Cassius as Felix is carried along.

It takes a village to rend and rip and stab and beat the last Bringer to a bloody pulp. Literally! No one man will see this Bringer lowered. No one man can claim the final kill shot that did the Bringer in. No one man can proclaim he did it alone. As much as a tank as the last Bringer was, it takes a coordinated group effort to wear down the last enemy upon the field of battle. By the time they're done with it... well, one can't hardly resemble much of anything about it. A heap of visceral, bone, and body matter...

At the end, Cassius' Lantern is still shining. The fences are still standing. The defenders are, some, like Felix, terribly wounded, but others, battered and bruised.

They stood, before the Pit, holding it, for no glory of audience or praise, rather for Duty and for a cause greater than any single man could possibly fathom. Without the bravery held this night, the experience of the black pitch of night held by smouldering fog, would have been a cake walk to the coming of the Silence.

Ferrando is mostly just trying to hold his ground as the surrounded Bringer goes all berserkerlike in its final weirdly silent raging throes. The Bringer slams into his shoulder, nearly spinning him around but he catches himself with a staggering step. Wincing at the pain, once more he steps in and just tries to hold out, continuing to swing away until the thing is finally ground down to a halt. Panting with the effort, he pauses to catch his breath, stepping a few paces off to lean against a largeish gravestone. "Need a hand getting Felix out of here?" he offers. He seems big and strong enough to get one end of the stretcher and haul it a good way, at any rate.

A rag comes from one of his armor pouches, and Tobias wipes off the Bringer blood from Requiem, before he puts it back, before looking to the others. The open helms visor is flipped up, and Tobias gives a small grunt. "I can keep watch, sure." Tobias heads for the Pits entrance, then, clanking along.
