1 Saik Guard, Micana, an efficient assistant arrive, following Lucita.
Willen arrives, following Lou.
Lines of footprints, just the size of Lucita's boots, encircle the statues that poke up through the snow. After a moment Lucita comes into view, one gloved hand reaching out to dust some snow off one of the statue details.
The large block of stone has seen many improvements since the time Lou has started working on it. She's sitting atop the scaffolding, working on some of the more minute details surrounding Prince Aibek, and it seems several shapes of new figures are starting to be worked on with in the stone. She's humming to herself, rather tunelessly, as she works, seemingly content to just keep chipping away at things until people generally start making themselves known.
Lucita says, "your devotion to working on this so diligently is impressive, Pathfinder Lou." She steps back from where she was dusting some snow off some of the statue details within her reach. "How many months have you been working on this?""
1 Kennex corsairs arrives, following Titania.
Shrugging against the cold, steps that started to take Cufre southward from the gate divert after her hood lifts at the sight of the figure on the scaffolding. She approaches the grounds and takes up a spot near Lucita, dipping in greeting. "Baroness, what..." She looks up and sees Lou. "Oh."
Upon hearing people talking, and hearing her name specifically, Lou settles down her tools and turns so that she can regard the people below her from atop the scaffolding. She scoots her legs over the edges, allowing them to dangle comfortably. "Baroness Lucita," she greets warming, then nods in Harrow woman's direction. "Cufre," she adds with equal warmth. She looks back to Lucita, considering her question. "Probably about a year now, given or take. I've taken breaks from it, and managed to miss a few of my own scheduled times working on it. It's a labor that helps me ebb the tides of grief that rush over me, a way to put pain to purpose, if you will."
Titania comes walking into the grounds with her multi hued cloak wrapped around her forms, her hair is down, partly in her face as she looks around to see who is here. When she hears voices she looks in that direction, a soft smile coming to her lips.
Lucita says, "This is a rough time of year to be working, Pathfinder Lou. You be careful up there, scaffolding can get icy in a hurry."
Lucita smiles toward Curfe and Titania as they approach. "A good evening to you both."
It isn't directed at her, Lou's response, but Cufre follows the last of those words with a rapid bowing of her head, the touch of one gloved hand to a finger on the other.
When her hood rises again, she returns Lucita's greeting, mustering some warmth behind it. "I didn't yet get to thank you for offering me shelter, Baroness. Not in in person. The storms hit us hard, but we were somehow still lucky in it. Better than some. Better than a lot." She looks to Titania and smiles a little in greeting, then speaks up to Lou, solemnly. "All lost at Bastion, Pathfinder?"
Titania nods her head, "Baroness Lucita." she greets then her eyes look to Cufre nodding her head. THen her eyes look up to Lou, returning the smiles. "Your Highness."
"Oh, I'm being careful," Lou assures Lucita, she picks up a bit of rope off the side of the scaffolding to show that she's tied off properlike. "I won't fall far if I do fall." She glances over at Cufre and nods solemnly in her direction. "Indeed. I plan to do one for Felicia after this, to give her a place of honor somewhere," she tells the Harrow woman, her expression softening a bit as she regards Cufre. Titania gets a curious look. "Lady Titania. I hadn't expected you to endure the cold so far from Kennex Kay. Are you feeling better today?" she asks.
Lucita draws her warm cloak tighter around her and stands in a little cluster with Cufre and Titania. She gives Titania a concerned glance and murmurs to Cufre "Oh, that would be a good rememberance of Felicia." She then lifts her voice to be more audible. "I have an idea, Pathfinder Lou, tell us a story with happy memories or amusing ones about some of the persons in your statue memorial, that is, if you do not mind, if it is not too painful to speak of them.
Cufre's swallow tenses her neck as she holds her focus upward, to Lou. "Oh, I have an idea about the perfect place, Pathfinder." She smiles behind her words, but when she lowers her gaze to level with those on the ground, there's a downturn to her lips and her brow draws shadows. She steps further into the cluster, "Lady Titania?" She bows her head. "It's cold!" she says with a laugh. "Yes," she looks up again. "A story, please."
Titania looks to Cufre nodding her head, "Yes, greetings." she says softly her ocean blue eyes watching her for a long moment then she looks back to Lou, "I am feeling better yes, for t he moment at least." she smiles at the cluster as she steps in and looks back up to Lou.
Lou nods in Titania's direction, taking the Kennex's word for it. However, when asked to tell a story of her fallen family members, Cufre might recognize all too well the look of grief that comes over Lou. She's silent a moment, taking care to think of a story. "This is a story about my cousin, Minka," she decides after a moment. "She was always quiet and unassuming, that is until you got her temper riled up. She was a woman of values and principles and she always looked out for our vassals. So, when someone started bullying one of them, she decided she wouldn't stand for it. She came to the aid of our vassal in need. She stood up to the bully, and although the bully pushed back, and even pushed her down, she got back up and stood her ground. The bully didn't quite know what to make of it, and I think seeing this scrawny scrap of a teen not only standing up to him but being firm and steadfast that he needed to quit what he was doing while he was ahead, kinda scared him a bit. She was, after all, a Grayson, but she was a tiny, fierce Grayson. I think that day was probably the day she decided to become a Knight, and looking out for those who couldn't always fight back became her crusade." She pauses there, then looks around, "So now that I've told a story, please tell me a story of a loved one you've lost."
Lucita says, "Duchess Calypso..." She draws a breath and lowers her lashes to veil the sorrow in her gaze. "She was the first person to figure out I was a spellsinger and took me under her wing. She was firm in that I learn to defend myself, dodge a little, and not be one of those helpless persons that cowers in a corner yelling 'help me, help me.' She worked hard and I used to drag her over to Whisper House or one of the taverns or inns for a drink and a little relaxation. She is the one arranged my marriages, both of them.... And she liked drink.. a little too much but would always be sober when it counted, was needful. That giant skull in Southport Square is one of her war trophies. She used to use it for an office or meeting area, people sitting all around on molar teeth. One time she called me to a meeting 'on top' of the skull and I had to climb up and sit there by her to give a report. She was supportive of me.. and the Barony. I miss her.""
"I don't know what I can say about Fel that isn't like any other memory we'd have or have heard of," Cufre says. She looks into the distance before her. "I think that once her armor was on, she stopped thinking about her own safety." Cufre grins. "She would rush into dangers I can't imagine. Mostly because, after a while she stopped telling me about them until she was back from them." Cufre's lips twitch, "And one day, she wasn't." She hms. "Well, there was that time she was healing in the Saving Grace. Which, well, if she could have moved, you know she wouldn't have stayed there long. She was stuck and sent for some whiskey. I was so angry at her that I sent her the worst bottle I could find. It was called...hmm 'Summer Piss' or something... She didn't even get angry at me. Just drank it and passed it around to the others stuck there with her. Including the Mercies."
Titania finds its her turn, she runs her fingers along the back of her neck a moment as she tries to think. She looks down to the ground for a moment, "I will have to apologize to you all and pass." she says softly looking up to Lou then to those next to her.
"It's okay," Lou assures Titania, giving the Kennex woman a comforting look. She glances over at Lucita and chuckles softly. "That does sound like Calypso, at least the bits I remember of her." She looks over to Cufre and her expression softens again before she also chuckles at the end of her story. "That does sound like something Felicia would do. She always appreciated a good whiskey," and Lou would know for they'd had many a late night in the Explorer's Hall drinking whiskey. She takes that moment to come down the scaffolding, untying herself from the safety rope once she's settled neatly on the ground. Her tools will keep where they are. "Thank you all for coming out tonight and also sharing your stories," she tells them. "It's getting late and so I should be getting back inside."
Lucita says, "Indeed. Thank you for inviting us and thank all of you for sharing. It is getting cold and expect I better be getting back home to warm up."
Lou gets a large block of stone from a Grayson quarry, shaped in the outline of several bodies, with the likeness of Prince Niklas, Prince Augustus, Princess Minka, Prince Donovan, Prince John, and Prince Aibek taking shape.
Lou checked dexterity + legerdemain at difficulty 15, rolling 7 higher.
Cufre nods her understanding at Titania's reluctance to share. "I wouldn't have thought I could say the little I did about Fel. This time of year is difficult, but this helped." She says her goodbyes to the others and heads southward.
