Lady Teldra, a Lycene noblewoman, Buchanan, a Champion, Steadfast, a guardian dog arrive, following Cara.
1 Grayson Guardsmen arrives, following Aiden.
Aislin makes her way into the dining hall. She is, for a change, not dressed in her armor; instead, she wears a black scale-patterned outfit -- wool pants and a formal-cut tunic. She is /also/ carrying what appears to be an aerodynamically perfect vase, which she puts on a side table. It must be a gift of some sort -- decorative /and/ practical for home defense, perhaps.
Reese arrives while adorned in pink silks and toting her weapons. Luca who is wearing a rumpled silk shirt is at her side. She holds lightly onto to his arm. Luca's shirt might be rumpled, but the lazy prince does this look well and he still smoking. She has servants bring in her liquor and treat collections.
Ilvin arrives a few minutes after Charlaine does- as usual, the slim little Archlector is unaccompanied, no guards or attendants, and his robes simple, but he carries himself with the easy grace of his office. He pauses at the entrance until he spots Charlaine, then smiles warmly at her, moving over towards her. "Lady Charlaine. I hope I haven't kept you waiting long?"
Tikva has arrived in the dining hall in a sweep of silk and lace, her balalaika slung across her back in its case and her hair neatly pinned back away from her ears. Her smile is wide as she wiggles her fingers in a wave to others as they begin to make their way in.
Cara arrives from the family hallway, bereft of her usual battalion of guards, and carrying in her arms one of her daughters. The baby is wearing her fanciest blanket and Special Event knit cap, which has little badgers in festive ribbons embroidered on it. It's a bit of an incongruous look, given the rather fancy white gown Cara's wearing. White gowns and infants rarely mix.
Alejandra, a snowy white hound, 2 Grayson Guardsmen, Planchet, a young valet, 2 Iron Guardsmen arrive, following Ainsley.
Esoka has plainly come from a day's work, still in leathers suited for the out-of-doors, but she's taken a little time to wash up and make herself presentable. "A good eve," she offers around in general. Before seeking out something to drink. A drink is Mission One.
Lord Kaldur Seliki enters wearing a simply white silk shirt, tucked into a pair simple leather pants. Though both of them seem to fit him well, he plucks at the shirt as if he finds it irksome, his aquamarine eyes dancing across the room, seeking familiar faces. Seeing none, he takes advantage of his extra time to run a hand through his sun-bleached hair, working desperately to get it to sit in some presentable way. He fails. Fortunately, in that moment, his eyes light on Esoka and he smiles a brilliant smile, his hand rising in an enthusiastic wave from across the room.
Charlaine smiles softly at the mans words to her own and she joins his arm, "no of course not Ser, thank you for coming, the Graysons are like a second family for me." she says as she moves beside him to look at the seating arrangments.
Silas steps into the manor's dining room, minus his usual guard retinue and rubicund -- and in its place a silk tunic paired with matching pants and an Aiden. He casts a look in Charlaine's direction, having passed her on his way through the hall, and offers her a polite smile and nod. "Good evening, Lady Blanchard." He flickers his gaze to Ilvin when he approaches and moves towards the table. A chair is pulled out for Aiden, and the other familiar faces gathering are greeted with a brighter smile from the Lord Commander. "Good to see you all again."
Aiden has joined the Dining Table.
Gunther, a Rottweiler arrives, following Estaban.
Ilvin smiles warmly at Charlaine and nods. "Well, I'm just happy to get out of the Shrine for a bit. A change of scenery is always good.", he says, before looking around for a place to sit as well.
Aislin offers Tikva a wave in greeting once she's deposited her vase, but makes her way over to Cara to examine the infants. (If she's an honorary aunt to the little ones, she has to discharge her aunt-ly duties and go make faces at them before dinner, after all.)
Silas has joined the Dining Table.
The Grayson Dining Room has been suitably decked out for an occasion of dinner for an entire fealty-- or at least as many people who want to show up. Grayson nobles and commoners are escorted through the manner into the dining room; where there is a man spacious table that could fit some entire minor noble houses.
To the edges of the room smaller tables have been set up for people to sit at, and one particular table has been set up in the back with a buffet of foods. Rather than people being served-- people are encouraged to get their own food; meats, salads, breads, deserts, wines-- everything opulent and luscious left out for people to get and enjoy.
At the head of the table is a particularly lavish chair which is /empty/. Sitting next to it to the right is Ainsley, currently speaking with his voice lowered to Planchet, looking somewhat aggravated by something. His gaze lifts and he spots Tikva, waving a hand in her direction, and then speaking in hushed tones with Planchet once more.
Aiden casts a gentle smile toward Silas as the Prince walks in with the Lord Commander, his silver eyes moving around the room to regard the various faces of those already appeared in the room. To Ilvin and Charlaine, Aiden nods his head, "Lady Charlaine, Blessed Ilvin, good to see you." He gives Silas' arm a squeeze as the chair is pulled out for him, which for now the bird prince will take, folding himself into a chair with hands crossing and resting on his lap as he settles in.
Charlaine has joined the Dining Table.
"They aren't staying," Cara says by way of greeting, tilting her daughter so that Aislin can get a better greeting in. The infant burbles and blinks at her auntie, seemingly distracted by all the commotion. Her sister, carried by Teldra just behind them, does very much the same. "But I thought I'd bring them by to say goodnight before they're off to bed, in case any of their doting aunts or uncles wanted a visit."
Ilvin has joined the Dining Table.
Tikva swirls up to Ainsley's side in a flare of silks and leans up close to him to brush a kiss to his temple, with a little wink to Planchet, before she folds herself down into a seat. "What a spread," she says, sunnily.
"No," Aislin agrees to Cara. "I'd imagine this might be too much crowd and noise for them, at least for very long." The scarred adventurer leans over to boop Caraspawn #1 on the nose, in an undignified manner wholly unbefitting the Voice of a major duchy. Then, unrepentantly, she turns to Teldra in order to do the same to Caraspawn #2. Duties thus discharged, she offers Cara one of her infrequent smiles. "It's good to see you again."
Esoka gets herself a glass of wine, giving it a quick sip before she starts procuring food. She has a plate heaped with roast and rolls, and even some greens, shortly. Kaldur is noted, and offered a quick smile while she finds herself a seat. She saves a chair next to her, should the Seliki lord want it. She can't help but beam at Cara's babies. Because, adorable.
Estaban comes walking into the dining hall looking around he is not in any sort of armor this evening no he is dressed in a nice green jacket coat with a white silk shirt under it, green leather pants with ties up the side neatly done and black leather high boots. At his side is his sword, looking around not moving just yet seeing who is here.
Gods, he wants it! Kaldur practically flies across the room to the seat near Esoka, throwing himself into it with all the fear of a child playing musical chairs. Content that he will not be eliminated this round, at least, he adopts a crooked smile, and murmurs a quick and muted, "Thanks," under his breath, but still perfectly audible, to the Dame.
One of Cara's babies -- it's Kieri, she's precocious -- reaches up to try and grab Aislin's hair, even as Cara sidles her away to avoid any painful entanglements. She smiles brightly in response to the Ashford lady and with her free hand, touches her arm fondly, before agreeing, "It is likewise good to see you. You do not live that far away, you know, and I hope you will come by the mansion more frequently to visit. Come, let us take a seat. Doesn't it look marvelous? Ainsley's worked hard."
Reese smiles over at the babies and she draws near and coos. She doesn't try to hold them though. Reese might not be very familiar with babies. She slipped away from Luca to see them. She then notices that Ilvin is here and he is given a welcoming a smile. "What an honor, Archelector, that you came." She murmurs softly.
Charlaine smiles to the greeting and she takes a seat near the Priest.. she smiles a little as her eyes pan around and she looks at some faces she has not yet met. Her eyes are light and happy as she looks from one to the other.. and then the children get a brighter smile.
Silas returns Aiden's smile and pulls out another chair next to him for himself. He drops onto the chair cushion and looks in Ainsley's direction when he notes the other prince's curious sitting arrangement. "Any particular reason you're not sitting in the fancy chair?" He does recall Ainsley being the host. He does blink at Kaldur's unexpected enthusiasm in finding his own seat. He waves to Estaban once he's spotted and waves. "Come sit with us, Lord Saik."
Ilvin smiles warmly, politely, to those he recognizes as the crowd grows, but otherwise seems happy enough to just be there, relaxing.
Ainsley's eyes briefly brighten at Tikva's kiss to his temple. He presses a kiss to her cheek and murmurs something quietly to her. A hand is waved in the direction of Planchet as he murmurs, and then he looks back toward Silas and looks briefly disgruntled, "That's Alaric's chair." He glowers at anyone who attempts to get near the fancy seat, in fact.
A hand lifts and he waves toward Ilvin, "Archlector, a pleasure to see you! Did you bring a guest?" He stares at Charlaine-- it's a little rude, but he doesn't know her to be in association with any Graysons.
"It does," Aislin agrees to Cara. "The kitchens must have been working like mad to produce enough food for this many people -- but it's good to see the fealty gathered. Even if the press of the crowd may eventually drive me to flee." She offers a polite nod and half-wave in Ainsley's direction, even as she takes a chair beside Cara. (Not, of course, Alaric's fancy chair.)
Aiden tries not to twitch too terribly hard, but he is twitching nevertheless. Fidgeting, they call it. He smiles quietly toward his brother Ainsley and Tikva, turning his gaze on the baby in Cara's hand, but when Silas mentions Lord Saik, silver eyes dart over toward Estaban and there's a broader smile for him, "Yes do join us Lord Estaban."
Reese eventually pulls away from the babies. She goes to pour herself a glass of pink tinted rose petal mead and then finds a seat at the big dining table. She seems to be in a good mood and smiles for most here.
Cara sees her children off with a quick kiss of each and two nannies who whisk them away to a nice quiet bed -- though she gives them an opportunity to say goodbye to their various relatives before they're put to bed. That done, though, she comes and sits at the table, smiling at the guests, "Welcome - I'm glad that you could all join us. If we haven't met yet, I'm Cara Grayson, resident recluse and new mother. There is a correlation between those two facts, as it happens. My husband Laric was going to join us, I believe, but he may have become tied up with work." She smiles serenely at Ainsley, too, and gives his valet Planchet a quick wink of support.
Tikva rises in answer to whatever Ainsley murmurs to her, pinches his cheek like a very obnoxious betrothed indeed, and then skips off at a hasty trot.
Mariah, a nanny, Thump, a yappy pupper, 2 Grayson Guardsmen, 2 Armed Confessors leave, following Tikva.
Esoka chuckles to Kaldur. "You're quite welcome. I never know quite what to do with myself at these things. But the food looks good!" She digs into her roast, to test this point. It //must// be good. She eats heartily. She burns a lot of calories...being herself, and seeks to replenish them. A bright smile to Cara. "Your babies are very adorable!" Tikva's exit it watched, and noted with a soft "Mmmm." Though that may also be aimed at the food.
Luca for the most part looked a touch out of place at his first proper Grayson dinner and just has stuck near to Reese thus far, nodding familiar lopsided smile to those he knows amidst the gathered. The children earned a broader smile and a more gentle one for Reese behind her back at her looking to them. He slips off with her to find drinks, turning with it to take in Cara's introduction and greetings with curiosity to whether there's some fuller speech coming, leaning over to murmur something to Reese after it.
Oh Look its Silas and Aiden, a smile spreads across his lips moving further into the dining hall," Just a moment and I will be right with you." she looks over to Reese and Ainsley slipping out two bottles, "I have brought something from home to share with eveyone, one was made by myself the other I believe my sister." he smiles holding out two bottle of wine to them.
Ilvin looks up and over to Ainsley as the Prince greets him, and he smiles widely. "Your Highness, it is a pleasure to see you as well, always. And, ah, actually, I'm Lady Blanchard's guest.", he explains, looking to Charlaine.
Ainsley sends Planchet off with Tikva with a wave of his hand. Calling after the overworked Valet, "Be quick!" He then gets pulled by a member of the kitchen staff, murmuring to him in hushed urgent tones. "Ooookay." He says, glancing around to anyone-- Cara, Aiden, anyone really, "I'll be right back!"
Inquisitor Jonathen arrives, following Laric.
Charlaine looks confused a moment and she tilts her head. Though she looks to Ainsley then back to Aiden, "I thought I would be welcomed, as Alarissa's Lady in waiting but I can go if I am not, no harm is done."
Patches, a three-legged mutt arrives, following Tristan.
Reese leans into Luca as he whispers in her direction, listening to his quiet words. She kisses his cheek and then murmurs something softly back. She then smiles as Estaban speaks of bringing wine. "Oh, I will have to try some, thank you Lord Estaban."
Aiden remains relatively quiet at Silas' side, presently not having to play host and thus not having to over exert himself. Naturally he goes for some of the wine that's provided, by Estaban or otherwise once it's passed out. He looks toward Lady Charlaine when he hears her latter remarks, standing up some from his chair, "Nonsense Lady Charlaine. You and Archlector Ilvin are both friends of mine, so please, be seated and join us." His eyes are warm as he invites them toward the table with a hand. Or if they were already there, keeps them from leaving.
Cara peers after Ainsley and glances back around the table, saying mildly, "Of course you are welcome, Lady Charlaine. There's plenty for all, and it is nice to make new acquaintances. I myself joined the family after Princess Alarissa left for House Valardin. It's interesting, how families change over the years." She gestures, and servants bring out an assortment of wines and cordials, moving about the table to offer beverages to the guests. She nods approvingly at Aiden's sentiment.
Estaban puts Estaban's Strawberry Plum Wine - Saik 999 AR in Ashwood Liquor Cabinet.
"Ahh. Should have guessed," Silas notes as he gazes back at said fancy chair. He's probably envisioning how it feels to sit in it, but if even Graysons don't dare to find out... he glances aside to Aiden when he notices the twitching and leans in to murmur to him. He withdraws to make more room for Estaban once he's relieved of his bottles of wine, and looks up towards Charlaine and Ilvin. "Aye, you're welcome, Lady Blanchard." He shifts his attention to Ilvin and his smile widens. "I've heard nothing but good things about you, Archlector. Particularly in advice-giving. I'm Baron Silas Whitehawk -- pleased to make your acquaintance."
Tristan wanders in, only somewhat late, his dog at his heels. Patches is freshly bathed and brushed, his parti-coloured coat fluffy, a green ribbon tied about his neck. Tristan is...wearing what he always does. He brushed his hair. His shave is not particularly close. He nods to the room and heads toward the liquor. Patches wags his tail at the room.
Estaban puts Strawberry Plum Wine - Saik 999 AR in Ashwood Liquor Cabinet.
Ilvin bows his head to Aiden, Cara, and Silas, his smile growing wider. He looks to Charlaine a moment, reassuringly, then looks back up towards Silas, chuckling. "It is indeed, Baron Whitehawk. And thank you for your welcome and hospitality. Should you ever need to speak, don't hesitate to come by the Shrine."
"The secret, Baron Silas, is that it's also dreadfully uncomfortable," Cara says gravely, though there's a twinkle in her eye as she glances at the Fancy Chair. "Or so I hear, never having been brave or foolish enough to sit in it myself. I hope you're all hungry -- the cooks have been hard at work, and the rumor that I've heard is that someone may have fashioned a five-tiered dessert out of a desire to impress. We shall have to wait and see."
Taking his cue from Esoka, Kaldur, too, digs into his food, pausing every so often to wash it down with some of the delicious wine that is on hand. After swallowing several mouthfuls, he leans toward Esoka, and asks, "Are any of the people you thought I should meet here? Lady Aislin? Or...gods. I think I've already forgotten their names." His remorse for this is quickly dispelled by another mouthful of food.
Estaban takes note of Charlaine and Ilvin watching them both for a long moment after giving (putting the wine in the cabinet) Reese. He seems to be thinking then turns silently to move to sit with Silas and Aiden, "Hello to the both of you." he puts a hand out to clasp Silas on the arm, "It is good to see you back." he turns to Aiden and smiles putting a hand on his shoulder in greeting. "Its good to see you as well Prince Aiden." he looks around and makes a soft sound and there is a nose and two eyes peeking out at Aiden from under the table and a grin on Estabans face.
Laric sidles in amongst the somewhat late arrivals, accompanied by a recently promoted Jonathen. The man, bless his heart, is no more distinguishable for his longcoat. The two men speak quietly to one another on their way to the table, the former man gesturing and commenting bleakly about something. As they reach the table, though, he pats his subordinate on the back and dismisses him plainly. "Go take care of that, then come back and enjoy yourself for once."
He continues around to where Cara and Aislin sit, leaning down to kiss his wife on the cheek and shoot Aislin a wry smile, extended around at the various guests as he then seats himself at Cara's other side. "Well. This is welcome change."
Luca's cinnamon eyes widen faintly at something Reese whispered to him, but it brought another broader smile flashing teeth and a quick reply as he continues to let her take the lead on mingling.
Laric has joined the Dining Table.
Esoka stays far, far away from the special chair. She's tucked in at the table in a seat next to Kaldur, and is eating in wolfish comfort. Her eyes tick up as Tristan enters. She can't help but grin, at the sight of his dog. After swallowing, she nods to Kaldur. "Yes, Lady Aislin's here...somewhere. I saw her earlier. Then I got distracted by food." She cranes her neck around, to track the Ashford lady's current position in the room. Cara is given a wink, for some reason. Before her eating resumes.
Tristan pushes past all the floofy fruit wines to help himself to whiskey, and flops into a chair that is not currently occupied. "Evening," he says. A gesture of his whiskey compensates for any and all titles he is leaving out. Patches woofs, and, tail wagging, goes to greet Steadfast warmly.
Estaban has joined the Dining Table.
Charlaine gives a small nod in Estabans way when her eyes catch his own, She smiles softly to Cara and then to Aiden. "Thank you." befure her eyes linger on Cara a moment and she smiles, "I had done some work for the high Princess Lark a bit for the Siege as well." she says quietly "I hope to make more friends here. I do know Prince Aiden, he has been helping me much lately."
The spread on the great dining table reflects the Grayson lands, and the bounty that is slowly being restored to them. Autumn is harvest season, and so it is that the table boasts whole roast fowl and a golden, crackling-crust roast pig, as well. Baked apples, fragrant with spices, laden plaited baked loaves of bread still warm from the oven, accompanied by crocks of fresh cream butter and a southern touch, a salty spread of chopped olives and garlic. Silver and gold bowls with petite fresh citrus -- oranges, mostly, but a few nectarines, too -- share space with roasted vegetables and toasted hazelnuts.
Tristan has joined the Dining Table.
Aislin has joined the Dining Table.
Silas smirks back at Ilvin. "Normally I'm a skeptic, but I might just take you up on that offer, one day. Better be prepared -- whenever I work up the courage to talk to other people about my problems, I'm usually a pain in the ass to deal with." He wrinkles his nose at Cara's assessment of the chair. "Well... at least it's not made of bones or swords. -That- sounds like a bad time." As if on cue, his stomach growls and his gaze travels towards the delectable spread of food... waiting for the others to dig in first so it doesn't look too strange when he stuffs his face in polite company. "Estaban," he greets. "You should see my new boat."
"Good evening, Master Tristan," Cara lifts her glass to him in greeting before smiling up at her husband as Laric passes. She helps herself to a few small dishes, eyeing the olive tapenade in particular. She tilts her head, listening to Charlaine, before smiling more brightly, "Well, then, I am doubly pleased to make your acquaintance. The siege made it clear who friends and enemies were, I think, if we've nothing else to thank it for."
Reese gets herself and Luca a glass of the plum strawberry wine. She listens to Luca's next whisper and nods in response to something that he said.
Prince Aiden whispers something to Silas quickly, in a reassuring way. Then there's Estaban. Aiden offers a pat to the hand that falls on his shoulder, "You're a wonderful guest to bring wine. Thank you Lord Estaban. Sit sit...--OOH!" And then Aiden is pushing back the chair and tucking his arms underneath the table as he peeks there, "Gunnnnther! Hello boy!" Ahh the doggie. The doggie is getting a good face scrubbing. He smiles up at Charlaine, but is happily distracted by the dog.
"Please, help yourselves," Cara gestures to the spread upon the table. Servants stand at the ready to carve meats or refresh drinks, or to bring dishes to diners who might be seated farther from them than is easily reached.
Samantha is late, and visibly regretful for it. Slightly sway-backed, she drops a curtsy toward the collective and moves to join the diners. She offers a faint smile of apology to those nearest her when she takes her seat. "Hello, everyone. You're all looking lovely."
Samantha has joined the Dining Table.
Aislin glances over when Laric arrives, offering him a nod. Her attitude is perhaps slightly self-conscious; the scarred noblewoman is, after all, not wearing armor for once. Fancy dress is not her usual comfort zone. But familiar faces -- including the newly-arrived Samantha -- are offered a pleasant nod in greeting nonetheless; it's always nice to see your friends.
Ilvin gives a warm, amused laugh at Silas' words. "Then I am even more earnestly looking forward to your visit.", he replies, before settling back in his seat and cheerfully digging into the food.
Reese eventually gets food. She gets food for Luca too and piles up his plate with healthy item, including veggies and the like. She smiles to Samantha when she arrives.
Tristan acknowledges Cara with another gesture of his whiskey. "It looks delicious," he says. He tilts his head to one side. "A fine looking roast pig. I suspect I knew its daddy. Fierce boar at Bastion, named Hammington, pride of the pigkeeper. Sires very plump piglets." That information given, he helps himself to and gives Samantha a nod in greeting. "Evening."
Mason makes his way into the dining hall, the Eurusi man pausing just inside to look over the room and those gathered to partake of the feast. He offers a friendly smile of greeting to any that look his way but slowly moves in the direction of Cara. Look out Cara, incoming relative.
Reese has joined the Dining Table.
Luca has joined the Dining Table.
Reese looks over to Tristan as he speaks and her blue eyes widen. "Oh, to Hammington." She says and lifts her glass in a sort of toast. When Mason arrives, she has a smile of greeting for him as well.
At the sight of Samantha, Kaldur freezes in mid-chew, and rises quickly enough that his chair scoots back several inches, providing him enough room for a quick bow. "Marquessa," he manages after a thick swallow, before half-way sinking back down to his seat. He seems unsure about whether or not he should be sitting or standing now that she is here.
Tristan gets a look from Cara as he starts naming the food they're about to eat, but she merely sighs very faintly before noticing Mason, "Oh, Mason! I'm glad you could join us." She nods toward an empty seat not far from her, and likewise greets Samantha with a bright smile. "And Marquessa Deepwood, too! How lovely."
Mariah, a nanny, Thump, a yappy pupper, 2 Grayson Guardsmen, 2 Armed Confessors arrive, following Tikva.
Charlaine takes a bite to eat before she murmers softly to her Guest, she then smiles as she looks over to Samantha with a smile as she too is greeted. Looking happy to have so many conversations around her she looks over Ilvin, "do you like the food?"
Estaban grins looking from Charlaine to Silas, "You will have to show me some time I would enjoy seeing it and walking on a deck again." he grins looking over chuckling as Aiden and Gunther have their moment. "He does love you Aiden." he moves to stand, "Come Baron Silas walk with me to get a bite to eat and tell me of you rnew ship." he looks to Aiden and the dog.
Laric seems content to ignore the food in favor of wine and the opportunity to rest his laurels. He settles comfortably into his chair, waving off an offer to have something served. He rolls his eyes at Reese's toast, but lifts his goblet in unbothered humor. Afterwards, he takes a sip and glances along to Tristan. "I'll have to catch you about those dogs in the next few days, Master Tristan. We're still deciding who deserves the opportunity to get their coat covered in fur."
Esoka smiles warm when she spots Samantha. "Marquessa. Hello! The food is very good." Another nod and grin is sent Mason's way. She engages in a little people watching as folks settle. Trying to catch Aislin's eye. In the sea of so many eyes. "Lady Aislin? I was hoping to see you here tonight. I was telling a new friend of mine about the Society of Explorers and he seemed most interested."
Silas decides against waiting and helps himself to at least three variety of meats. He's not happy when there's only one butchered animal on his plate. Before he digs in with his knife and fork he pauses to reply to Aiden. He waves enthusiastically to Samantha when she arrives, and quickly stands to help pull the chosen seat for her at the table. "Sam! Good to see you. And careful -- you don't look well..."
Mason gives Cara a warm smile, "Thank you, Cara. I'm glad I could make it. I almost forgot. I was buried in some reading. I know your schedule is probably packed and overbooked, but would you have time to speak with me, soon? There's a matter I'd like to discuss." He says, moving to the indicated chair to pull it out, but glances around to see that it's a self-serve situation and just stands there for the moment, waiting for Cara's response. Others get smiles, Esoka and Aislin in particular.
Aiden invites Gunther, Estaban's rotti, to sit by him and in the meantime keeps his hand there. His eyes lift toward his friends, "I have a bias for him, I admit. I did pick him from the litter for you Estaban. Let me know if you want me to come spend more time in helping train him." He then watches as Estaban suggests that Silas move from the table to get food, nodding encouragingly to Silas that it was okay. Hearing some words about Tristan, his eyes look for the man, waiting for his opportunity to say hello, since, Aiden doesn't want to leave his seat. It's safer in his seat.
Tikva swirls back into the room at a brisk trot, a hint of flush to her cheeks as the skirts whoosh around her knees. She scurries back toward Ainsley's seat with a "Whoof!" in her breath as to how she, like, says hello.
Ilvin grins to Charlaine, nodding. "Oh, it's quite good. I would expect nothing less from a Grayson affair, of course.", he says, and takes another bite, sighing happily. "The wine is lovely too- how are you finding it?"
Tristan nods to Reese, the faintest trace of humour in the quirk of his mouth. "To Hammington, whose line has fed the Graysons so well. He has more than done his duty." He leans back in his chair, and inclines his heard to Laric. "I've been speaking with the Grayson kennelmaster. Picking out a couple of young dogs with keen noses and love of work. I've also found at least three who only wish to be adored for the rest of their lives, should anyone want a pet hound.
Also, Silas is already moving... so Estaban essentially joins -him- in spite of the offer. "I'll... leave you the fish." He looks a little sheepish.
Luca checked command + teaching at difficulty 0, rolling 21 higher.
Cara tilts her head at Mason before smiling easily, "Of course. I always enjoy our discussions -- I should be about the mansion tomorrow, if I don't go down to the city center to bring Laric his lunch. He works too hard. I have to interrupt him constantly." She glances at her husband, smiling cheekily.
Charlaine smiles to Ilvin, she nods her head quietly "I love Saik Wine it is the very best." she says quietly as she talks between bites, she tries to keep up with everyone around her, and she smiles as she overhears Aiden speak of Estaban's dog, "he is a nice dog."
Ainsley is pulled back right about the time that Tikva comes swirling back into the room. A broad smile is given toward her and he reaches out to touch her cheek gently. He then holds out a chair for her before moving and lifting his voice to call out, "Can I have everyone's attentions, please?"
He then acquires a bag from either Tikva or Planchet-- the poor overworked Valet.
Reese lifts her gaze to Ainsley as he asks for her attention.
Tristan says something under his breath that sounds like an instinctive, contrary, "No." However, he takes a swallow of whiskey, and turns his blue gaze toward Ainsley.
Aiden sinks lower in his chair when he's abandoned on both sides by Silas and Estaban, although he does look across to Charlaine and Ilvin, smiling quietly, about to reply but then his brother is calling for attention.
Cara frowns at Tristan.
Funkeln, the spindly little fawn arrives, delivering a message to Mason before departing.
"Well." Laric shows Tristan a short-lived smirk, but whatever he has to say about the pups is cut off by him giving Cara a little side-eye, and then Ainsley his attention upon request.
In the midst of tucking into the roast pig, Luca was only half-tracking the conversation and caught the end of the back and forth between Tristan and Reese, leaving the Champion prince pausing to frown down at the pork, apparently thinking it meant he was eating Hammington, not Hammington's offspring. There's a brief blanching at that, but before he can ask about it, Ainsley's calling for attention and the Velenosa-turned-Grayson prince turns that way after a sly sort of nod for Reese as if in confirmation.
"Dame Esoka." Aislin offers a warm greeting to the Greenblood. "And oh? Well, I -- or any of the Seekers -- are usually willing to talk about the Society." And here she glances over to Mason, with a hint of a smile. "For instance, I'm sure the Prince Seeker enjoys speaking to prospective new members as much as I do." But then Ainsley calls for attention, and she falls silent.
Ainsley receives Silas's attention as commanded. All while chewing on a drumstick.
Estaban nods his head and shakes it while he gets himself a plate of food he was about to say something when Ainsley calls for everyones attention he stops what he is doing and looks to the prince watching him giving him his full attention.
Ilvin looks up, curious and attentive, as Ainsley asks for it.
Mason gives Cara a grateful smile, "Tomorrow would be wonderful." He says, lowering his voice as Ainsley calls for attention. There's a glance towards Aislin and Esoka, the man grinning and nodding as he sinks down into his chair. The food will still be there later, after all. He focuses on Ainsley.
Kaldur watches Aislin's face with wide blue eyes. Perhaps he is the friend who wished to make her acquaintance. He is sitting next to Esoka after all. But it is not to be. At least not in this moment. When Ainsley's call for attention comes, he grudgingly pulls his gaze away.
Charlaine turns her eyes to Ainsley as he calls for quiet and she pauses in her meal as she listens.
Esoka points to Kaldur. For Aislin and Mason's benefit, seemingly. She's about to say something more, but then Ainsley calls for attention. And, while she lacks manners about pointing at people, she //does// quiet when someone is talking.
"Tristan," Samantha beams at him, "You owe us a visit at the manor." A tired smile for the ladies as well, as she adds "The food does look wonderful, and I'm pobably going to wind up eating a lot of it." Her gaze flits from Esoka to Silas, noting with a chuckle, "There's sick, and then there's looking like a whale." She scrunches her mouth, expression set wryly. As she sits, her attenion turns t Ainsley.
"There are a few people here tonight, who on behalf of House Grayson, I would like to express gratitude, pride, and awe to and of." says Ainsley, as he sets the bag down onto the table, and carefully picks out a little box from it. He holds it upward and says, "Estaban Saik."
His gaze turns to settle onto said Velenosan lord, his smile genuine, "House Grayson thanks you for the way you put your life on the line for members of its family and fealty." A brief pause and he says, "And I.. /personally/ thank you for saving my brother's life."
He then holds the box out toward Estaban.
Another box is retrieved and he turns to face Esoka now calling to her, "Dame Esoka Greenblood, house Grayson is proud to have you as a member of our fealty, if sworn to one of our noble vassals. Your tireless work, dedication, and bravery at the Seawatch gates has not been forgotten." The box is likewise held out toward her.
A third one is taken out and he pivots so he's addressing Tikva, "Lady Tikva Riven, House Grayson is utterly proud of you as a vassal of our fealty. You are absolutely crazy and, personally, the bravest woman I know." The box is held toward her, and then he's reaching for another one.
Estaban moves forward to put his plate on the table and making sure his hands are clean, moving to take the box he looks to it with a smile, "Thank you Prince Ainsley." he gives a bow to the prince and then moves back to where his seat is and sits down in it looking at whats inside.
Tikva promptly opens the box, pulls out the medal inside, and puts it on. Now she has two medals on a chain around her neck -- on the stiff leather badge of the inquisition, the other the bright bronze medallion of the medal she has just earned. She beams and says, "Just as crazy as you are ... Your Highness."
"Too many more of those, Tikva, and we'll have to start calling you 'Twinkles'." Cara calls, beaming proudly.
Aiden looks up from the rotti toward his brother as he makes the presentations of boxes to those who made an impact, looking appreciative toward Estaban when he goes to collect his gift. The others who also receive awards are regarded curiously, not exactly knowing Dame Esoka, though he does smirk toward the last. He adds a soft applaud, since it seems the thing to do.
Kaldur breaks into wild applause as the boxes are presented and each of the recipients named, leaping into the action with faith that he will not be alone and, consequently, embarrassed. Esoka gets a little elbow nudge as well since she is beside him, an impressed look registering on his sun-darkened face.
Ainsley turns then toward Samantha and smiles a little bit sheepishly at her, "Marquessa Deepwood, as your husband is not present tonight-- If you'd accept for him?" He pauses a moment and then continues, "Marquis Rymarr Deepwood's bravery and tireless efforts to hold back the enemy at the Seawatch Gate has not been forgotten and House Grayson thanks him for it."
The box is slid then toward Samantha. Only to look a little sheepish and says, "And... for your knight, my lady. Dame Zhayla. House Grayson recognizes her efforts and bravery helping to hold the line at the Redrain ward during the siege." Another box is pushed toward poor Samantha.
He turns then to look around and asks, "Where's? Ah! Prince Luca Grayson! Tales of your heroism at both the Redrain and Thrax Gates has gotten to us, and House Grayson is proud to call you one of our own, and thanks you for your service." The box is pushed toward him and then he glances down at the bag.
"House Grayson also recognizes Archlector Aureth of the Queen, Master Rickard Corsetina, and Guardsmen Merek Black for their bravery, efforts, and ... uh ability to command terrifying allies. During the siege."
Given none of the last three are present, no more boxes should be coming out??
But five more boxes are laid out onto the table.
Esoka's bronze skin flushes darker when her name is called. She stands, offering Ainsley a deep bow as she takes the box with her name. "It is an honor to serve," she says simply, sitting again.
Silas didn't expect a medal ceremony in the middle of dinner! He blinks and returns the drumstick to his plate so he may wipe his hands off with a napkin and heartily clap for the recipients.
Ilvin smiles widely at the gifts and awards given out, and he applauds politely as each is given and received.
"Twinkles? Tikvles?" Tikva suggests, scrunching up her faces as she tries this out. "Twinkva?" Tikva no.
Reese cheers as the awards are given out. She has a gentle smile for Luca when his name is mentioned.
Aislin applauds politely for those receiving medals, with a genuine smile for those of her friends who happen to fall among the list.
Charlaine blinks as people start to receive medals, and she applauds along with Ilvin as people are mentioned. She looks kindly at Estaban as he is given his. Her clapping pauses as Ainsley dose not seem to be finished.
Tikva has joined the Dining Table.
Samantha certainly wasn't expecting gifts for her husband and vassal, but she is visibly delighted to accept on their behalf. "Thank you, Your Highness." she says, carefully tucking the medals away.
Moral quibbles of eating someone's pet named Hammington (he thinks) put aside, Luca was tucking in happily to the pork when the medals started getitng given out. He's pausing to clap and cheer a bit for each, but by time his own came, he was thoroughly tucked back into his meal, and so caught a bit off guard when his name got called. Looking abashed and still chewing an overlarge mouthful of food, the Champion prince rises up to slip forward and take up the box with a thoroughly mumbled. "T'ank youf Ains!" After which he's quickly slipping back to the table beside Reese, his dusky skin hiding the blush rather well. Ah, timing.
"No," Laric voices quietly across the table to Tikva, just shy of morose over the potential nicknames. He takes another swallow from his goblet, then sets it aside and claps appropriately for the various honors being passed out.
Mason grins as Ainsley starts handing out awards and recognizing people. Maybe he should have gotten food first. Either way, he seems quite pleased to hear about those that are being called out, smoothly folding his hands and resting them on the table.
Estaban puts his box down and claps for the others that also get them, he looks to Aiden and shoulders h is friend looking down at his dog. "And I do it again if needed." he says to Aiden and Silas. His eyes catch Charlaine and he nods to her with a smile then looks back to Ainsley still.
Cara applauds for the medal recipients, "Well done!"
"I actually wouldn't do it again," Tikva admits, dropping her voice to a murmur that carries only a little far. She widens her eyes, glancing between those nearest her as she gives this confession. "If I had it to do over again, I would stay in the medical tent and not charge out beneath a giant Fomorian with my guts almost hanging out?"
Aislin seems quietly relieved to hear this.
"Now." says Ainsley with a smile to the room in general. "The last five names are those who are recognized not for their bravery in combat but their bravery in mind, spirits, and heart. These people are those who fought our enemies through their intelligence, social acumen, or where their to help those in need during the siege."
He turns once more toward Samantha and says, "Marquessa Deepwood, House Grayson recognizes your service to the fealty and the crown during the siege in your efforts to turn Shav'Arvani from the Armies of Silence and to our side." He slides one more box toward Samantha!
He shift then, looking around, to find Calaudrin, "Lieutenant Estardes-- early in the siege our enemies started to sneak into the city through the docks. They hid in plain sight and attempted to sow discord. You were amongst those who helped protect our docks and inspect the ships as they came in. Grayson recognizes this dangerous and /highly intelligent/ if probably unappreciated at the time, job."
He turns toward Luca and Reese and says, "We also recognize Mae Culler for her efforts in evacuating the lower boroughs. I have no doubt that Mae saved coutnless lives." The box is pushed thataway.
He glances back toward Tikva and says, "Count Riven was instrumental in his help of preparing those shav'arvani that Marquessa Deepwood brought into the fold. We recognize his efforts along with hers."
And then to the room in general, "We also want to express our gratitude to Guildmistress Joscelin Arterius, for her efforts to rebuild our great city after the siege. I have no doubt that we would be far worse off with out her."
And then he sits down. DONE.
Aiden has left the Dining Table.
Reese smiles when Ainsley gives her the medal for Mae. "I will make sure she gets this, thank you Ainsley."
Kaldur's applause grows in strength with Rymarr and Zhayla are given awards, his famliarity with their names drawing forth greater enthusiasm. And it rises again with Samantha's honors. As the awards wind toward their end, he lets loose with the biggest applause of all, encompassing all those who were recognized.
With faintly squeaky wheels, an enormous five-tiered cake is rolled into the dining room. Each cake is glossy with sweet glaze -- strawberry and cream on the base, hazelnut and cocoa on the second layer, blueberries and lemon on the third, coffee and liquor on the fourth, and the fifth, lightly sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. On the very top is a tiny crown, molded from sugar, in the shape of a Grayson badger. It looks ridiculous and also entirely delicious.
Aiden offers a light applaud for those who are recognized for their part. There's a fidget and then politely excuses himself from the table. He slips out quietly, unless the rotti follows him for a bit.
Tikva checked composure at difficulty 15, rolling 14 lower.
1 Grayson Guardsmen leaves, following Aiden.
"Oh my gods that cake," Tikva squeaks round-eyed, even as she clutches her Count's box in her off hand. "Holy shit."
Samantha flashes another smile, accepting a medal once more. "Thank you, Your Highness." she says again, and settles back in her chair. Kaldur's enthusiasm seems to visibly delight her, and then - then there's CAKE. She licks her lips in anticipation. "No kidding." she agrees with Tikva.
"She'll get a kick out of that for damned sure." Luca quips aside to Reese at Mae's token, grinning brightly. But after it, he's calling out (thankfully with his mouth free of roast pig this time. "You're forgetting all that the blooded Graysons did though, so I hope that's coming next. Your own ferocious blade, Ribbon's amazing leadership, and so on. Don't let it be forgotten you all did your parts true to the None Greater than Grayson line!"
Charlaine watches her friend slip away and she too murmurs to the person beside her. Concern in her eyes, as she touches Ilvins shoulder and nods her head to him. She moves away to follow after the Prince.
There's applause from Mason and he's throwing grins to all that have been named that are present, but Tikva's cursing pulls his attention. "Wow..." The Eurusi man says in agreement, chuckling. "Perhaps I'll skip straight to dessert."
Charlaine has left the Dining Table.
Ainsley waves a hand now and says, "Have come cake!"
And then a glance around the room before he says with a small smile, "There were many heros of the siege-- many who still deserve acknowledgement and I wish I could acknowledge every one right now-- but we'd be here for at least a month. So for now! Eat and be happy!"
Esoka applauds boisterously as the medals are announced. The honors to the Deepwoods and Rivens get a deep bow of her shoulders. And she actually lets out a whistle when Calaudrin Estardes name is called. The loud, ear-piercing sort. And then there is cake! This gets more loud clapping.
"Spoken like a true... wait, you're not technically a knight, are you?" Silas scratches his chin as he observes Estaban, thoughtfully. He frowns when he watches Aiden get up and leave, but makes no move to follow him. Not yet. He applauds the recipients of the following medals and looks back to his food-piled plate. "Might have to take this home with me."
"The servants would be happy to make you up a basket, Baron Silas," Cara suggests with a chuckle. "There's nothing like a feast for a spectacular luncheon the next day, hmm? And please take some cake, lest I end up eating far too much of it on my own. My husband despairs of me when I've had too much sugar."
Reese looks over to Luca as he speaks, having the grace to blush. She gives him a gentle smile, but keeps her silence.
Estaban watches as Aiden gets up and walks out he makes a hand movment to his dog to go follow Aiden, he looks to Silas, "No I am not Baron Silas." he nods his head looking back to the door and then back to Silas there is a concern in his eyes then he looks to Tikva, "I will say Lady Tikva if I had to I would wish to hear you sing again while in battle." he smiles but looks to Silas again. "Will you be going Baron Silas?"
Luca's brows go together at Ainsley's retort, getting a stormy sort of look of a man about to say something he might regret. He glances aside though to Reese, frowning practically a scowl, murmuring some words, but then subsiding with a bit of a huff as he pushes his medal box to her beside Mae's. Discontent brewing, enough so he apparently is done with both his meal and not going for cake either.
"Well," Tikva says, and her teeth flash in a wide, white grin, "I will /definitely/ sing again, Lord Estaban." She toasts him with her glass and then takes a drink from it.
Mason rises now and moves down the table to stand behind Aislin's chair, though his gaze is settling on Kaldur, "Someone has questions about the Society of Explorers?" He questions curiously, accented voice soft-spoken, but well-articulated. He shifts his attention to Esoka, "Do you think you might be free for another training session sometime this week, Dame Esoka?"
Ainsley has rolled a critical success!
Ainsley checked composure at difficulty 15, rolling 15 higher.
Ainsley tilts his head toward Tikva, and blinks briefly but then turns back to his own food. Look! He has food. He starts shoving a piece of chiken into his mouth with the absolute /worst/ manners ever.
Silas smiles back at Cara and nods. "Thank you, Your Highness. And yes, leftovers are excellent. Had quite a few good meals when Prince Laric sent over the remainders of your wedding feast." Oh so that's where they went. He lifts the plate full of meats to hand it over to a nearby servant that presumably overheard the conversation. A glance is sent Estaban's way again. "And yes, I will be. Are you seeking to join me, Lord Saik?"
Esoka points some more to Kaldur, when Mason approaches. "Yes, this is the one I was talking to Lady Aislin about. I know little of the Society myself, but from what I hear of it, it is very good for those interested in ranging beyond the city and seeing exciting things!" Mention of sparring earns an enthusiastic nod. "Oh, yes! I think I'm getting a better hand with the scimitars, even if they're still less bashy than what I'm comfortable with. And I'd like to see what you can do with a blade now that you're back in better practice."
"It's a careful line to toe. Not enough cake, she goes wild. Too much cake, she goes wild." Laric sighs, and without much in the way of prompting eases to his feet to make his way towards the cake. He sees to cutting off a sizable chunk and a much smaller one, carrying both back to his seat beside Cara. He sets one down along her plate of food and leaves his own off to the side, calling towards the Saik once he's settled. "Lord Estraban, we'll have to schedule a meeting in the next week or so about that, ah, matter we discussed."
"It's a good thing you like me wild," Cara agrees, before taking her cake with ill-disguised glee.
Tristan raises his glass in toast to those celebrated, but makes no immediate move toward the cake. "Perhaps you should just put apple slices in her evening feed?" he suggests, voice dry, toward Laric.
"You can't tell me that isn't an epic cake," Tikva tells Laric accusatorily. CONFESS.
Reese sucks in a soft breath as Luca nudges the box next to her own. She doesn't seem to know quite how to respond. She glances over the table, watching as everyone speaks and it is not easy to guess that she feels extremely awkward. Her cheeks are pale rather than flushed though. "I could use some air. Thank you for the lovely dinner, Prince Ainsley." She says, taking both of the boxes.
Kaldur half-rises in respect as Mason approaches and Esoka offers her introduction. "Lord Kaldur Seliki," he says brightly by way of introduction. "I um...I was mostly interested to know more so I could write my sister about it, in the hopes it would convince her to come to Arx more quickly," he confesses. "She is the true explorer. But Dame Greenwood seemed to think you might know of places nearby where I might test myself against the environment. At home, in Pearlspire, there are cliffs to dive and mountain trails to run." He gives the man a hopeful look.
"So many adventurers mount their own expeditions," Aislin explains to Esoka -- and to Kaldur, as well, as she follows Mason into the conversation. "They find their own funds, collect their own maps, collect the journals of past adventurers, and so on. But if we pool our funds to supply an expedition -- if we all gather copies of our maps into a single library, if we all share copies of those old journals -- then the expeditions we can mount are /far/ more impressive than anything we could do alone. That's what the Society is meant to be." She pauses, glancing over to Mason to see if he has anything to add.
Laric lifts his shoulders helplessly at Tristan's suggestion, briefly smirking at Cara's comment and lifting his hands in a 'that's that' gesture. "It wouldn't be the same," he CONFESSES, before wordlessly sliding the smaller slice towards Tristan. Eat sugar and be merry, damn you. As he settles back, he gestures sharply towards Tikva and replies, frank and without preamble, "That is not an epic cake."
"It's an awe-inspiring montrosity."
Luca rises with Reese, still scowling a bit, but trying not to show it. Of course, Luca's got all the subterfuge of a horse, so he's not doing a great job of it. He just nods politely as he may agreement to Reese's words about lovely dinner and starts out after in usual fluid duelist stride.
Estaban nods his head to Laric, "Yes Prince Laric, when you will like to meet please just send word and I will be there." he looks to Ainsley and the others, "I thank you for the dinner and invite your Higness and the medal." he breaths deeply looking to Silas nodding his head moving to stand next to the man.
Samantha grins just past Kaldur's shoulder to Mason. "You don't have any credit amongst Seliki vassals unless you've jumped off a cliff, or gone pearl diving." she remarks. "It's rather amazing, once you get past the feeling like your heart is in your throat at the moment right before you jump."
Luca has left the Dining Table.
Giuseppe, a kindly old man leaves, following Luca.
Reese gives an awkward apolgetic smile and slips out after Luca.
Reese has left the Dining Table.
Patches' little face pops up from under the table. He sniffs at the cake, with a hopeful wag of his tail. Cake? Cake? Cake for me? "No," Tristan tells him firmly. He takes another long swig of whiskey--that man drinks it like water--and observes, "I'll stick to galloping along beaches myself."
Estaban has left the Dining Table.
Mason opens his mouth to respond to Kaldur, but Aislin beats him to it and the man just grins as she shares her passion for the Society. "Yes, it is the strength of those of us that love to see and learn new things, discover what's been lost... " He offers a gentle bow to the man, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lord Kaldur. I am Prince Mason, by the way." He shares. "I could show you the Hall of the Explorers if you like?"
Silas stands from his seat and bows his head to Ainsley and Cara. "Thank you for the dinner. I'll take at least one slice of the cake for later." He smiles faintly to the others at the table, too. "And thank you all for the delightful company. Be well." And with that, he moves to exit, presumably with Estaban following.
Silas has left the Dining Table.
Ainsley leans over to wrap an arm around Tikva's shoulders, clearly pleased with himself. Though a glance is given in the direction of Reese and Luca as they leave as well. A frown is given and he tilts his head toward Tikva, pressing his lips ot her temple. He then lifts a hand toward Silas and says, "Lord Commander, be well."
"Thank you all for coming," Cara beams, then gives Laric A Look that is both fond and utterly exasperated. "The kitchen worked very hard on that cake, you know."
Gunther, a Rottweiler leaves, following Estaban.
2 Iron Guardsmen, Estaban leave, following Silas.
Tikva leans into the wrap of Ainsley's arm with a mouthful of lemony gooey cake, her fork held between her teeth. "Mffmgmphle?" she asks unintelligibly.
Esoka's blue eyes brighten at Samantha talks about jumping off things. Intrigued. "I have never jumped off a cliff intentionally!" She is clearly pondering trying this. As she gets herself some cake. Because she //needs// some of that cake.
Kaldur grins over his shoulder at Samantha, nodding his head vigorously in response to her words. "I would be happy to help any of you fall from a cliff sometime," he offers, only belatedly realizing his poor choice of words. "Er, dive. Dive." His attention is quickly back on Mason and Aislin. "I would love to see the hall sometime. When is a good time to come by? I'm afraid my time tonight is growing short, but I would welcome a longer conversation with one or both of you."
Ainsley reaches out with his fork and takes a piece of Tikva's cake, and takes a big chomping bite right infront of. He grins at her brightly, and nuzzles his lips against her temple once more. His gaze shifts over the people still mingling and asks of Esoka, "Do you /want/ to dive off of a cliff? Wait-- have you dove off of one unintentionally then?"
"I have," Aislin assures Esoka. "Though to be fair, it was because I was being chased by a pack of direwolves." When Mason offers to show Kaldur around, the Ashford adventurer smiles over at her friend. "I'll let you handle the tour, Mason. I probably should get back; I have a few bits of Ashford business to still deal with." And her habitually-worn armor to don once more.
Mason just grimaces. "Cliffs..." The man murmurs with some discomfort, a fearful expression ghosting across his features before he reins in his feelings. He focuses firmly upon Kaldur, "I will definitely pass on falling from a cliff. However, send a message and we can arrange a time to meet soon. I can show you some interesting locations on the map there that you can write home about." He shivers then as more talk of cliff diving comes up. "I should actually get something to eat." The prince murmurs, moving in the direction of the buffet table where he can fill a plate.
"There are far worse things to be in life than an awe-inspiring monstrosity," Laric replies pointedly to Cara, finally reaching over to grab an orange and begin peeling it. He doesn't seem to have much of an appetite tonight for hearty food or amazing sweets. "Like food, for instance. Subjectively, of course," he adds. He takes a bite from the fruit and looks along to Tristan, thoughtful and wry. "That's an interesting hobby, Master Tristan. How do you deal with horseshoes?"
"I didn't dive. I was pushed," Esoka explains to Ainsley. Between bites of cake. "There were bandits. I was employing an unorthodox method of apprehension. It was a whole thing. I landed on //him//, though, so I came out the better." A gesture at Aislin. See! Lots of reasons to unintentionally go off cliffs. "A good eve to you, Lady Aislin. It was very good to see you!"
Samantha laughs. "You don't fall, you jump! The true artists, they dive. But you can always go feet first. And you land in the water, that's the thing. I don't recommend it if you can't swim. But Kaldur's family - well, it's part of the culture." She looks enviousy at the cake. "It smells so good." she says, a touch plaintively. "I can't decide which level I want a piece from."
Tikva takes another bite of cake and then attempts to feed a bite to Ainsley on her fork, lounging against his side as she tucks in against him across the chair. She says, "I'm definitely going to have to talk to those bakers about some of our tiny cakes."
"It's good for your soul," Kaldur says earnestly to Mason. "I look forward to seeing you again. Thank you both," this to Mason and Aislin, "for taking the time to come over and speak to me about the Explorers. And for allowing me to introduce myself." He smiles then, before turning to Samantha and Esoka. "Marquessa, Dame, if you will please excuse me, I should get going. It was really great to see you both. And," he adds, "congratulations on your well-deserved recognition tonight."
"Why choose? Have a sliver of each," Cara suggests to Samantha, before shaking her head, "I can at least say that every time I've been in direst danger, it hasn't been of my own choo-- oh, wait. No. I did go along to try and arrest a traitor in his own barracks, which in retrospect was dreadfully ill-advised. But I've never jumped off a cliff." She tilts her hand, palm up, "I am about as far from the athletic type as one can be and still be capable of ambulation."
Ainsley allows the cake to be fed to him, rather then stealing it. A small nod of his head is given and he says, "Mmmnnhmmm." A glance is given toward Cara, "This cake is amazing." A soft sigh is given and he looks back toward Tikva and asks, "Mmmn, yeah. Our cooks are great, they'd probably be delighted at the idea of making tiny cakes." Ainsley looks briefly at the ceiling at the mention of traitors.
Tristan considers, pulling the slice of cake onto his plate and eating it before Patches does. "Usually I make sure they go on the horses," he replies dryly.
Mason looks back at Kaldur, chuckling, though there's a nervous edge to it. "No no. I've done all the falling from cliffs that I ever want to already. I'll leave it to ... younger, braver people than I am." He says without regret in his voice. Then he finishes stacking food on a plate and gets a plate of cake -- 'a bit of each flavor for Safi' he tells the server -- before throwing Cara a smile, "Hopefully we can talk tomorrow." He says with a nod of farewell to the woman.
Aislin tilts her head to Kaldur. "I'm sure we'll speak again soon," she assures him. Then she turns to Ainsley with a thoughtful look. "You know, with cake this good, you should consider inviting the Nox'alfar to a Grayson dinner sometime. You could give them each tiny cakes of their own. After all, one of them is about to marry into Grayson, no?" (She's /probably/ just joking about giving the Nox'alfar cakes. Probably.)
The smile fades somewhat from Tikva's mouth at that idea. She puts her fork down and puffs out her cheeks.
"I hope so, too," Cara smiles to Mason. She slants a look at Aislin, then at the vase, before saying mildly, "Oh, that is a good idea, cousin. I'll be sure to invite you as well."
Aislin checked composure at difficulty 15, rolling 0 higher.
Aislin develops a very, very slight facial tic as Cara speaks. It's only barely noticeable. "Oh, I wouldn't want to intrude," she remarks, oh-so-casually.
Esoka takes the time to swallow before bidding a good-night to Kaldur. She continues enjoying the cake and the wine, before fading into the ether away from mingling.
Ainsley says, mildly, "The small cakes are for our wedding."
Talk of cakes and the nox'alfar seems a very good time to slip out of the room. With a final bow for Samantha, Kaldur does just that before he hears something he doesn't want to hear.
