Mason D: even
Dawn descends the stone staircase that leads to the floors above. To look at her, one would think the Lady adorned in the most fashionable (and concealing) gowns of northern cut and style. As if hips and midriff and a revealing portion of bosom weren't all on display courtesy of the exotic foreign drape of her... dress? Bolt of fiery, heavily embroidered fabric? "I'm not even certain what it's called," she murmurs to those trailing her. Her hair is loose and has been treated to flowing ringlet curls, with just two wings drawn back from her temples while the rest falls free to mid-back-- it and the garment she wears share many of the same burning colours, leaving only her paler skin to set the woman apart from the styling. That and the pale eyes which, when turned to survey the room before her, open wider as she finds herself not in a great hall but some lush desert-borne tent. "...my goodness, is this accurate?"
Off to one side, as out of place as a Thrax at a peace conference, is an elderly figure that could only possibly be Augustus Grayson. Standing, as he is apparently wont to do, with a saucer held in his chest-height left hand he sips from a matching cup that features a charming tessellating pattern of grey and green rampant gryphons around its bowl. When Dawn arrives, looking for all the world like a sandstone sculpture of herself, Augustus half-turns to face her. He slips the saucer into a pouch on his belt that would appear to be specifically designed for such an occasion, and offers his out-stretched left hand, "Lady Dawn. I believe that our dear kinswoman has gone to a great deal of effort on the decorations... Accuracy would be a bonus, certainly, though the feel is authentic enough." He frowns slightly, "Though there's marginally less sand, and I'm not melting into a small puddle."
That the Lady Sylvie Zaffria has never been to the kingdom of Ahj'on is perhaps not surprising, but her wardrobe has been twisted to allow an impression of it, perhaps. Except that the bare slip of silk that corsets over her breasts with only capped sleeves, while leaving a swathe of sunkisses skin exposed, is /black/ rather than brightly colored, as are the matching harem pants despite the sash of sapphire around her hips, dripping with silver coins that jingle as she walks. She comes alone this evening, none of her usual escorts apparently available to decorate her arm, but it doesn't mean that she seems to care. She moves into the hall shamelessly, her silvered eyes sweeping over the gathering even as she catches a moving servant to grab a foreign wine and bring it to her lips before moving onward to explore.
Lady Juliet arrives with Mistress Delia and Princess Sabella, with each of the noble ladies having found an arm of the Whisper and to be moved along with her. Juliet's hair has been set up in another ornate fall of curls, this time with hints of pink and white and red in both cloth and real roses that help keep her locks in place, the former part of her elaborate set of hairpins. Her dress is paler than her usual garb; finely spun wool in white that contrasts with her sunkissed skin - and that might not be entirely appropriate given the heat of the room, but she'll suffer it gladly. She considers the text on the small piece of parchment in her hand, and quirks her brow. "This should be an interesting game. I wonder if I can count myself for any of these..."
As the only known Ahj'oni on Arvum, Mason had been involved with the planning. Or rather, describing things to Natalia and let her have carte blanche on the whole affair. He did what he could, but he's no party planner. Fact is, he's had plenty of things on his mind to take up his time. However, he had promised himself to not peek into the planning, or what was going on. So when he enters, he has to stop slightly inside the doorway, his eyes a bit wide, a clear sense of surprise on his face. He says something in Eursi, which can probably be gussed at 'holy crap'. "Home..." he utters almost dumbly. "Praise be to the sands, I cannot believe it."
The Highlord of Redrain was led into the Grayson Great Hall, though he pauses just within to raise his eyes upward along the silks and bolts of fabric that descend from the ceiling. His eyes grow a touch wide, though the expression is fleeting at best. He's clearly missed the memo about the dress code - there's nothing revealing about his outfit or truly festive, though the leathers and furs and silks have splashes of red and gold in them. Darren takes in a breath and then the room, floating around those who have gathered already, his blue eyes turning from some of the women who enter around him, to Dawn as she descends the stairs, and then finally to Mason as he expresses his fondness for the hall's transformation. "It's quite a sight," Darren agrees with the man in a friendly, warm tone.
Niccolo steps into the hall, dressed in typical Velenosa colors. He slows down is steps, letting his gaze sweep the room as he takes in the decorations. "Impressive," he muses to nobody in particular. The duke's hands come to clasp behind his back as he continues with his walk. His eyes narrow and his attention turns from the decor to those already gathered. Those dark brown eyes regard those he recognizes, his eyes lingering on a couple of faces.
Joscelin Arterius enters the newly decorated hall, eyes wide as she takes in the exotic wonder of another world. Having fallen into Ah'joni designs for the rage it's brought through, these designs are familiar to her and quite pleasing to the eye.
She wears violet that mimics the dark lush hue of a violet sky, with gold earrings set with amethysts; her own design. Her shorn curls halo around her head in thick tresses that defy gravity, framing her round face and the lit joy in her eyes. She says nothing, trying to take it all in, moving slowly as she drinks in the many colors and details of this amazing event.
"Thank you, Prince Augustus." Dawn drags her eyes away from the spectacle that is the great hall. Her smile is for the elegant senior statesman alone, as she lifts her hand to rest it against his. "She has gone above and beyond, hasn't she? And Prince Mason as well. How wonderful." Her other hand, moving in slow and subtle fashion, drops to tug carefully at a folded hem and then curls in such a way as to cover the Lady's exposed midriff. She at least tries to make the gesture seem posed rather than concealing. "This might well start a new fad... ah, and so it begins." The guests! Not the hostess, she keeps her smile at a more muted pitch but is free with the nods-- they go to Sylvie, to Niccolo, to Darren, and Mason's awestruck expression finally provokes the grin she's better known for.
The Blacktongue doesn't arrive late or on time; he arrives precisely when he means to. The Harlequin of House Velenosa looks as cheery as always, happily tossing an apple from hand to hand as he enters all by his lonesome. Despite his current vocation, the man wheres no bright colors and is stubbornly in blacks and silvers. The only splash of color on his countenance is the piercing blue of his eyes and the venomous green he chose to dye his neatly styled beard for this evening. Those that have seen him know it is subject to change, dependent on his whim of the day. The ringing of someones harem's pants makes him narrow his eyes, "I swear if anyone is planning to plant bells on me.." comes his surprising rasp of a voice, each syllable making one question if the man gargles with gravel and whiskey on the daily.
The doors of Grayson are thrown open for those that arrive to come and view the wonderous changes that Princess Natalia has done for the event to honor Prince Mason and his homeland. As people enter they will be given a neatly written card with a list upon it from one of the servants that see to the door. As soon as it seems like a good time to begin, Natalia will clap her hands to draw attention. The woman is wearing something that is probably too 'scandalous' to normally be worn in the city; especially in winter. Her bust is wrapped (barely) in a green silk half-corset. This leaves her abdomen and the upper part of her hips exposed for all to see before a silk skirt covers her legs. However, there are long slits on each side that cut up to where the belt is low on her hips. She is also free of hairpins, so her golden hair falls in curls and ringlets down her back. Her feet are actually bare as well as she steps up to greet those in attendance. A deep kohl around her eyes to cause them to look even more deep blue.
"Thank you all for coming and I pray that you will enjoy your evening. You have received a card when you entered, those words are your task for the evening. You must find someone with those things listed. They will then sign their name next to it to say you have spoken to them. Use caution. You can only use a person once for something on the list. Not all of them may be found. At the end of the night, or if you complete it, give it back to me. (OOC: @mail/quick) I do hope that you will mingle and enjoy a night honoring a different culture. In these times, it is good to work together to embrace our differences rather than tear them down. We are a strong people and we are made strong by each part and what they uniquely bring. Now, enough for speeches and meandering words. Please enjoy yourselves."
Delia is smiling absolutely radiantly, between the beautiful Princess Sabella and the equally stunning Lady Juliet. She looks between the pair of them, favoring each with a grin. "Well Princess Sabella, your family certainly does know how to throw a party....." She pauses as they're give ists of people to meet, gazing over it curiously. "Oh my do either of you meet the critera for these?"
Darren was momentarily paused by a servant thrusting a card in his hand, his eyes narrowing down to the piece of parchment before he lifts his eyes up to Natalia as she descends. He gives her his whole focus, taking in the sights and the instructions, though for now the piece of paper is folded up and set into his pouch. He offers Niccolo a wide grin and a nod as the man enters, before taking steps over to Dawn, a warm chuckle for her as he gives her a brief study. "I didn't ever think orange and red would be your colours, Lady Dawn," his tone is cheerful and friendly, leaning to murmur something to her before he straightens again and casts his eyes around the room. "The place looks beautiful. I suppose this is as far as we'll ever come to experiencing the Dune Nations."
"I certainly hope not," Augustus says in reply to Dawn's comment with a deep frown, "Far too much... on display, for my tastes." Once the Lady on his hand has descended fully, the elder prince retracts his gesture and retrieves the saucer from his belt pouch and once more holds it under his cup at around his chest level, "Suitable for a desert, I am sure." He sips once more at his tea as his eyes roam around, much like a chameleon's don't, "Many faces this evening..." He offers a small nod to Prince Darren as he approaches Dawn - and thus himself - and offers the briefest glimmer of a fraction of a mote of a smile, "As is often the case, your highness, your thoughts mirror my own."
Silas usually attends underdressed, and under these circumstances even moreso than usual. Sort of. There seemed to be -less- fabric than usual upon certain persons. He wears a stately green tunic and black trousers, with a scabbard with a blade resting inside attached via the leather belt around the waist. He new gold-framed badge was pinned to his chest, the only hint of jewelry in his attire. He receives the card upon stepping into the hall and peers at it curiously, but his reading is interrupted by Natalia's clap. He makes an uncertain humming sound.
And along with Mason? One Princess Lou Grayson. She, too, is in attire befitting the decor. Mostly. It's not the red and gold that she wore to her husband's dinner. This one is green and fits quite well. The adventuring princess may not have many curves to speak of, but the outfit makes sure to show them all off. The silence fabric is a nice, emerald green accented with silvery-grey. The edges, however, might not be.. particularly accurate. They are decorated with kittens. Not just kittens. Ivory and cream hued kittens of murder and death.
Princess Sabella let's out a gasp as she takes in the beauty of the room. "Princess Natalia does not dissappoint!" The words are spoken with pride. She quiets down as her cousin begins to speak, and she beams with pride at hearing about the game. She looks around the room. "This will be a hard task to get done." She then looks down at the list, "That is a good question... Do you meet any of the criteria?" she asks Delia and then looks at Juliet.
Joscelin sees Silas and steps close behind him, and tugs lightly at his elbow. "Messere Mercier," she chuckles softly, gold eyes warm, "Silas. That badge suits you well."
"It is more than I could imagine." Mason says to Darren, a moment needed to regain his composure after seeing the spread. "I had given Lady Natalia a great deal of ideas, and I expected something modest really. I didn't think that she would so much...research. I mean, I had thought I gave plenty of detail of my home but this...this is far beyond what I had initially thought what would happen. Far better than the dinner I tried to put together for the family." To Dawn's smile, Mason returns it brightly, but even going far as reaching out to hug the Voice. "You had a hand in this didn't you, my friend? I am at a loss for words. I..." he pulls back enough to just shrug helplessly, but the happy kind. "First the news with Lou and now this?" Loss for words indeed.
"My darling, I would never put bells on anyone who didn't want them," is Sylvie's answer in honeyed tones of the Lyceum as she overhears Blacktongue, since surely it is the coins of her sash that have him speaking so. Her smile is warm, however, and she draws to the harlequin's side to observe the hall still, leaning closer to murmur something to the man there and the man alone.
Delia looks at the list thoughtfully and then to Juliet and Sabelle. "Well I have skinny dipped, several times... can whistle." She glances to Juliet and grins. "We ARE much alike are we not?"
Valerius walks into the hall, he looks around at the decorations, but only for a moment, no reason to look like a gawking commoner, he's dressed in what he would personally wear to the desert, a pair of brown leather pants, boots and a white silk shirt that is open down to the base of his sternum with only a few pieces of leather laced through and allowed to leave hanging, the whole effect makes him appear almost roguish, he glances at the card in his hand for a moment then hunts himself down a whiskey before scanning the crowd for anyone he knows.
Dawn clasps her hands together and lets her arms drape loose before her. A little more obfuscation, for what fabric doesn't cover. "It -is- quite warm in here," she says in a tone that is both approving and amused. "Ah! Prince Darren. I'm glad you could come," is offered before she tilts her head to hear what is quietly said. Whatever it is prompts a chuckle and a small shake of her head-- disagreement. "I wouldn't say that... oh!" A hug! She turns to meet Mason and Lou, just in time to be greeted with that gesture of affectionate familiarity. It's returned briefly before she retreats half a step and shoots a grin at the couple. "I can't claim any credit whatsoever, my contribution is limited to holding the purse strings. But isn't it lovely? Your home was a beautiful place... and your wife! Lou, you look wonderful. Doesn't she, Uncle Augustus?"
"I can sleep soundly tonight then, assured." Blacktongue's smile is slow, purely cheshire in form as he looks slowly to Sylvie. He is mindful to only let his pearly whites show, never his namesake when in public events like this. He leans to hear Sylvie's whisper and a laugh escapes, polite and kept quiet before he answers the Lady.
Silas turns to greet his first guest of the night, quirking a brow at the title Joscelin uses. "Yes, I think I vastly prefer 'Sir Silas' to 'Messere Mercier'," he replies with a grin. "Thankfully it matches my outfit, but I think I may have to get something a little more elaborate in the near future." He leans in to whisper to Joscelin.
Among so much vibrancy is a single mote of pristine Mercy white, golden hair freshly braided and tied with a silk ribbon of Valardin blue. There's a soft gasp at the splendor of it all, Sophie momentarily gobsmacked, her summer sky eyes, which arrived tired around the edged after a particularly trying day at the House of Solace, now round and wide and glittering at the sights. She takes in the richness of vivid color, and the heady aromas -- oh, how she loves fresh ginger -- and she simply looks euphoric, creature of the senses that she is. Then, after a long, spellbound moment, her hands drift to her mouth, and she lets out just a shining laugh of pure delight, looking on the verge of tears by how incredibly moved by it all that she is.
There is a large smile as she sees that people are milling around and starting to ask about the game. Natalia moves with confidence as if she dressed like this every day. Her eyes slide over the people and then she moves over towards Mason and Lou (and any by them). "Darling.." This is for Mason. "How did I do in getting it right? I have been trying to find just the right shade of silks and the sand in winter." A soft tsk. "Did I manage to fulfill your expectations?"
Eleyna glances over the card she's been handed, her features an expressionless porcelain mask as she reads over the requirements. Once sufficiently scanned, ice blue eyes look up to slide over the decorations and the clothing worn by the hosts. There's a polite little smile curving her full lips, but it doesn't reach her gaze. For her part, Eleyna's dressed in red silk trimmed in gold, the weight of her golden curls caught in a fine netted hairpiece held by discreet hairpins. The Princess continues to watch, thoughts carefully screened by the distance in her cold eyes.
The duke from House Velenosa takes a moment to study his card. He looks from it to return Darren's grin and Dawn's smile. Niccolo addresses both with a faint smile of his own. When Natalia speaks, his gaze finds her and studies her and again he finds his attention on the card he holds. The duke continues making his way through the gathered crowd, as if looking for something.
Without even looking at Dawn, nor at little Lou, Augustus offers a short nod to the offered question, "Princess Lou," he opines gently, "Has the ability to demonstrate beauty even in battle-worn leathers and mud, Lady Dawn. It should be little surprise that her innate aesthetic perfection shines all the brighter in such decadent surrounds." He pauses and takes a half-step backwards, ever so deftly, to avoid being crushed by the influx of people coming here to kiss Dawn's a-... hand.
Princess Sabella looks at both of the women, "You do seem to have much in common. I suppose I should try more of these things. Only a few of them match for me. She then leans in and whispers the answers to them both. She smiles as she catches sight of others she has met before, waving at Eleyna and Valerius. She gestures for them both to join her.
Darren utters a low chuckle for Dawn, his grin warm for the woman before he just shakes his head, turning his attention to those who have gathered around the Grayson Voice. There's a smile for Augustus - broad in comparison to his fractional one. "Prince Augustus," he greets boldly, friendly, then looks to the other woman in green that stands beside Mason. "And Princess Lou, a pleasure to finally meet you. Lady Dawn has told me quite a bit about you," he offers to the woman. "You have quite the husband in Prince Mason. A great storyteller, this one," he chuckles warmly, eyes bright.
Joscelin chuckles. "I met with your brother today; I think 'messere Mercier' tickles him. But yes, Sir Silas. If you need something more elaborate, let me know. Your rings are almost ready, I finished the enamel on them a few days ago." And she murmurs to him softly.
Well, fashionably late is a thing right? Jarek is here now, knowing hes late to the party. He doens't slink in though, just walks through the door, being handed a list which he responds to with a smile. He scans the crowd immediately though, knowing that there are going to be a lot of familiar faces in the crowd but knowing hes looking for a few in particular. Its when he catches sight of Natalia he moves in the direction of the Grayson princess. He offers a bow to the princess, and to Mason and Lou as well "Thank you all for the invitation to your event tonight, its an honor. Its good to see you again Prince" a pause and a look to Natalia "and I think you in particular Princess for your invitation. I won't take up too much of your time, I just wanted to offer my thanks."
Juliet holds her list up for her two companions to see, tapping at a few items on it, apparently declaring which bits fit her. "I think the guest of honour fits at least one of those, so I suspect he will be swarmed to sign quite a few lists. I trust Princess Natalia will do us the honours, once we get a chance to talk to her." Laughing a little at Delia's comment, giving her a quick nod. "It'll be a delight to find out just how similar we are, Mistress Delia." Using the parchment to fan herself just a little. "I am amused by her prediction that there would be people in armour." She concludes. Then she folds the list up, offering a little wave here and there to people she recognizes - like Duke Niccolo, and Sir Silas, and Prince Jarek, Prince Valerius, and Princess Eleyna. Saving a bright smile for Natalia, as she moves - and in moving, hopefully brings Sabella and Delia with her. Waiting for an appropriate moment for conversation to pause before she curtsies to Natalia and her company. "Your Highness, thank you ever so much for the invitation. And for the wonderful garb." Gesturing at the dress she wears. "Won't you do us the kindness of making introductions?"
Sylvie's lips curve into a brighter, sharper smile at Blacktongue's quiet answer, amusement dancing as smoke in her gaze as it sweeps over the man before shifting to the people. She murmurs her response, but then her next words return to a conversational tone, a laugh curling at the edges of her words as she replies, "I would imagine that anyone with your job, Master Blacktongue, never sleeps /quite/ soundly." A pause. "Now, tell me, do you match any of these categories that we are searching for?"
It is rather a crush of people and Lou looks perhaps as much out of place as Augustus. All the socializing, schmoozing, and grand gestures are -- smartly -- left to her husband. The adventurer just sort of smiles at those gathered nearby. Such as Dawn and Natalia. But then there's the likes of Jarek. And Darren. The woman's gray-blue eyes go a bit distant and her features rather smooth over. Jarek's words are given a hint of a nod, but she leaves more to the actual architects of the event. "Prince Darren," she greets the Redrain, tilting her head a bit deeper in a nod. "I admit, I am not nearly the social creature my husband is. And I am glad that what is spoken of me seems to all have been positive." A beat. "Enough, at least."
Deva slips in, not at all dressed for a formal event. It's leather from head to toe, as usual. She circles along the edges of the hall first, eyes narrowed slightly as she searches faces among the crowd. There's a moment for her to pause and squint at the list handed to her, before she folds it back up and tucks it away into a pocket.
"Lady Natalia." Mason beams brightly at her. "You are truly a diamond in the rough, your creativity and elegance in creating this glimmers like jewels in the sands. I would think this mirage were it not real before my eyes." He stammers a moment, looking around. "I never thought in all my years that someone would be able to recreate the best aspects of my people so well. I think the Sultan of Ahj'on himself would be thoroughly impressed with what you've done here. I..." he pauses. "Thank you. From bottom of my soul thank you. If I cannot see my homeland again, it is enough that this is the next best thing. I cannot thank you enough for this."
Delia lets Juliet pull her along through the room and pulls Sabella along in turn. "Who though has gold eyes.... and what sort of person has never drunken alcohol?" She wonders out loud. "I can not imagine how it could be so."
Valerius notices Sabella gesturing to him and heads over, taking a sip of his drink, "Well hello Princess, how are you this evening?" he asks, "These decorations are nice aren't they?" he says, "It's taken a lot of talent."
Blacktongue is well accustomed to letting the nobles do their thing, only seeking the limelight or attention went it his is literal cue. He seems quite content to be happily chatting away with Sylvie. A sharp brow angles downards, the other arching at her apparent amusement. "I see my job is already done for the evening. You are amused!" He pretends to be offended, a black gloved hand placed over his heart as he bemoans, "My job? I believe that was my -former- job you were speaking of. My current one is a bundle of laughs. Promise." He winks and tosses up his apple in one hand, catches it and polishes it off on his sleeve before taking a loud, crisp bite. He ponders the list, glancing it over. When he speaks again it is with the apple chunk in his cheek. "I can juggle?" He flips over the card and with a sleight of hand produces a quill from behind Sylvie's ear and says with all seriousness. "The list is all grand and fun...but can you help me with the true mission of my being here?" He lowers his voice to a stage whisper anyone could easily overhear. "...how the hell do you pronounce the name that was on the invitations sent out?" He holds his quill poised over the back of the list card, acting as if to write out every last hint on how to pronounce the damn thing.
Dawn pauses to murmur something to Augustus before turning once more to face the crowd collecting in this corner of the hall-made-tent. "Ah, Prince Jarek, how wonderful to see you," she remarks, expression lighting with a fresh smile when the Velenosan prince comes near. She's distracted from that greeting only by Mason's heartfelt gushing and so sends the gentleman in question a smaller, fonder smile-- and in so doing spies Lou's shellshocked look. A discreet signal summons a servant equipped a tray of wine glasses to be passed about to all and sundry, but particularly to Lou herself. Because in Dawn's world, alcohol cures all ills.
Natalia turns her eyes towards Juliet when she arrives and there is a warm smile. "I believe that you know, His High Prince, Darren. He is the tamer of the North and the champion of every event. For the man never loses." A curve of her lips to that and then she offers Dawn. "This is our own Grayson Voice, Dawn heralds the mornings and disperses the shadows of the night." Her hand indicates Augustus. "Our most proper and established, Augustus. He is the one that holds the most history of the family. So much knowledge in one person." Then an indication to Lou and Mason. "Now the person that makes this party amazing... Mason. He has blessed our family with so much culture and humor. Beside him is the beautiful adventuring spirit, his wife, Lou--" Yeah she stops there. "Have you each met Lady Juliet Fidante?" Her hand comes out to rest on Mason's arm. "You are family and nothing is too good to make family happy." Her eyes then slide towards Jarek with a nod. "Of course, Your Highness. I hope you enjoy it."
Sylvie checked intellect + linguistics against difficulty 15, resulting in 18, 3 higher than the difficulty.
Silas smiles warmly to Joscelin. "I'm not surprised. He always prefers being fancy than not." He points at the card and offers it Joscelin. "I don't suppose you have a quill on hand?" He certainly didn't. He exchanges a few more whispers with Joscelin and nods, eyes flickering to Delia ever so briefly. "Duly noted, and thank you."
Princess Sabella does follow her escorts, and she breaks away from them to hug her cousin and kiss the air near her cheek. "You have done an impressive job, dear cousin. This event is beautiful! I think I remember hearing that you own a cat, does that not count?" She lightly points to her card. When Valerius turns to her, she embraces him and kisses his cheek. "Hello Valerius, I am quite well. Are you wearing armour perchance?" She grins with excitement. Her gaze than turns back to Natlia as introductions are given.
With a slight lean, Augustus murmers something to Dawn's ever waiting ear, and he rolls his pale soul-less eyes at the reply. Straightening once more, mostly to protect the tea from spilling, he sips from his cup. "Perhaps we should move this little convocation to somewhere other than the stairwell?" A fraction of a moment passes and Jenkins, the tall balding man often found at Augustus' side is... found at Augustus' side. A soft word is spoken thus to the Prince and he offers a small frown, "What do you mean there's no whi..." the frown deepens as the aged Prince cranes up slightly to murmer to the somewhat-taller Jenkins. He pulls back sharply and shakes his head, "Fine... the bottom drawer of my desk, right at the back behind the spare inkwells. Fetch it... and a pewter mug." Augustus glances aside to Lou's vague direction, "Make that two mugs."
The most proper and established old grump's frowny-face is turned to face Natalia and Lady Juliet Fidante as the latter is introduced, "Charmed," he says with a small nod of his head to the young noblewoman, displaying absolutely none of the prerequisite expressions to indicate the stated status.
A brief glance is offered to Juliet along with a dip of his head by Niccolo in return to her greeting. He reads through the card again, chuckling once at something he sees on it. The man's steps take him in the general direction of the Grayson gathering. "Your Graces, Your Highnesses, my lords and ladies," the duke greets, then turns his attention to Natalia. "Seems like you are the one to thank for putting this together. Well done, Your Highness," he offers to the princess.
Darren's eyes shift towards the entrance of the Hall, Deva's entrance caught out of the corner of his eye. "Ahh, you'll have to excuse me. I believe that's my sister slipping in here all unassuming and the like," he dips out of the group, headed straight in Deva's direction, his twin given a firm but friendly bump with his shoulder. "I see you," he says to her, chuckling.
Sylvie's laugh spills softly from her lips for Blacktongue's antics, her gaze trying to trace the path of his hands with every movement that he takes for all that she ends up losing it. "I know that some in the city simply call him 'Mason'. But it is--," and she proceeds to pronounce the Prince's name, almost every syllable correct if lacking a hint of the proper inflection. "And I have, indeed, sent jewelry to someone not of my family." A pause, her gaze catching on Eleyna before she raises to call over to the woman in invitation, "Tell me, Princess Eleyna; are you /currently/ married yet?" And where others of her acquaintance might use it to make a jab, and perhaps she is, there is a teasing warmth to the way she asks it.
As the gala, continues there is a sudden scent upon the air of spiced meats. Servers come in and walk throughout the guests to offer them food and drink. The drinks are a dry red wine and a ginger tea. While the food offering is meant to be eaten with fingers as chicken, lamb and beef have been marinated in exotic herbs and cooked upon sticks for people to eat. On the server's trays are also bite-sized fruits of dates, grapes and all manners to delight the senses. There are very thin pastries filled with cheeses and spinach. While dessert offers that same almost see through layers of pastry with sweet date and nut filling. As not everyone wishes to eat the same very rich and very flavorful food, there are other common offerings as well.
While people eat and are moving around, there is a sound of musicians playing a more festive (if not bizarre to most) music. This music is not for a waltz and soon it is shown another version of entertainment. Women in bright chiffon outfits with their mid-drifts scandalously exposed start to dance. This dance seems to focus on their waist and their arms. They will move throughout the crowd to dance with people in this Ahj'on fashion. As well, bare chested men are also present with billowing pants. These men though align to spin fire and dance within those flames. They are cautious not to let anyone too close and when their dance ends, the douse their own flames.
Jarek had planned to just get that little thanks in and get out before Natalia changed her mind, but then there were a whole other large group of people arriving. Jarek takes the opportunity provided by Dawn speaking to him to shift a little and get out of Natalias way and he smiles at Dawn. "It is an absolute pleasure to see you as well M'lady, I hope you are well?" The arrival of the other group causes him to smile at the familiar group. "Lady Fidante, Princess Sabella, Prince Thrax, its good to see you all again so soon."
Valerius shakes his head, "Obviously not." he says with a laugh he switches to a stage whisper, "I do really like whiskey though!" he says, "I could have worn my armor, I bought a new set just today." he explains, "But wearing full steel plate to a social function isn't exactly what I think of as a good time." he tells her,
Joscelin produces a bit of sharpened graphite from her pocket. "Inspiration hits at the weirdest times," she explains, grinning. She frowns at his whisper. "Who's Horatio?" she asks, confused. "Oh! Your... cousin? I think I read that in the journals. He has a snake?" she exclaims, intrigued.
Dawn hears her name and it brings her about to look between Natalia and Juliete. "Of course! Lady Juliet, so good to see you again. It seems we go from one exotic locale to another on each meeting, doesn't it?" she remarks with a small gesture of her hand. This one does not summon servants, or wine, and is meant only to indicate their surroundings. "Duke Niccolo, welcome... I am doing very well, thank you, Prince Jarek. How could I not? Not in a hundred years did I ever dream the great hall could be so transformed. Even my father would be in awe, I suspect. Don't you think, Uncle Augustus?" But, tilting her head, she finds the gentleman engaged in hushed (cranky) conference with Jenkins-- and thinks better of interrupting.
"A pleasure to meet you all," Juliet beams at the list of introductions, dropping in a curtsey to each in turn, and accepting a glass as the wine is doled out. "And my compliments to you, your Highness, for a most interesting party game." she offers to Natalia. Gesturing to Delia. "This is Mistress Delia Whisper, a most delightful companion. Princess Sabella and I have been graced with the blessing of her company tonight." Looking to the cluster around Mason and Lou, she quirks her lips. "I suspect we may all have quite a good time signing each other's sheets and getting to know one another."
Crossing her arm as Darren heads her way, Deva sighs loudly in the fashion of an anonyed adolescent. "Yeah, yeah. Hi. Having fun? I don't think I can stay for long," she admits simply, a hand shifting to her hip.
Eleyna offers a cool smile to the servant that passes near her with a tray of wine glasses. She takes one swiftly and cradles it in her hand. She nods to Sabella with a faint smile, lifting her glass, but before she can join the Princess and her friends, Sylvie's remark distracts her. Eleyna's brows lift and she steps closer in order to respond, her expression not changing at all as she remarks in a dry, cool tone, "Not at the moment, but give me time. The night is still young."
"It is more than I could've ever hoped for." Mason actually looks a little teary-eyed there for a moment. It has been a long time since the man saw anything happened to resemble his homeland. And its kind of a well known thing that he's the more emotional one between him and Lou. She's reserved, he feels everything strongly, in one direction or another. "Family. Yes, of course." he says a moment after regaining his composure. "Kind things such as this I have never seen with my own family so this is...it is all a bit overwhelming. But in a good way, I assure you. And the clothing. I swear, were I to walk outside this moment, I would think my feet would touch the marbled and sand covered stone." Looking over his shoulder, he gives a smile for Lou, a perhaps a little sign that, no, he has not forgotten about his wife, while knowing that she's more prone to hanging back.
"You are a champion, my Lady. You do me great charity in helping an old fool out." Blacktongue proclaims, though the only gray that shows is near his temples, the rest of his long and bone-straight hair being completely black. A flash of his smile and he writes out the name dutifully as orated to him by Sylvie. He sticks the card in his pocket and the quill vanishes with another slight of hand from the Jester. "Do not let me keep you from your laborous task, my Lady, but if you need help and amusement weeding through it? It would be an honor." His eyes flicker to Eleyna as Sylvie calls to her, head tilting with curiosity.
Seeming a bit punch-drunk, Sophie saunters into room, the card in held in one hand entirely forgotten. The fingers of her other hand glide across the cascade of silks, her eyes fluttering closed at the sensation, leaving the swathes gently waving in her wake as she passes by.
Uncle Augustus, ever the talking head apparently, arches a brow to Dawn's question as he finally acknowledges that it has come, "Your father?" He pauses and frowns, more in thought than general annoyance, and offers a small shrug of his shoulders, "Your father's tastes were rather similar to his father's. If there was alcohol, women, song, and preferably a duel or five, he would have enjoyed himself." He pauses again and angles his gaze over to Natalia, "I am certain that the late King, and my siblings both, would have found just the hall to be spectacular enough your highness. Added to that the knowledge that their kin were so eager to learn and absorb foreign cultures and ideas? They would mark this as an event worth remembering for generations. My congratulations."
Delia nods to Silas as she moves past and curtsies as she's presented to Natalia, "An Honor to meet you Your Highness. Princess Sabella and Lady Juliet have been full of kind words about your highness."
Jarek beams brightly at Dawn "well, that is wonderful to hear m'lady, its always better to do well then bad I think" Jarek says with a grin and a bit of a laugh to Dawn "thank you as well for allowing us all in the Grayson estates today, its quite the transformation." When Eleyna joins the group of people around him Jarek's face lights up "Elle dear" he says warmly to his cousin "glad to see you out. I see your jokes are just as good as they were last night." He moves to give his cousin a quick hug.
A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Darren before departing.
There is alcohol from Dawn. A great, great blessing for Lou. Who is trying to just smile for those that speak to and of her and her husband. The expressions are a bit strained at that and it's no wonder that the common opinion of her is someone who is no-nonsense. At least she has murder kittens on her skirts. The fabric that drapes across her shoulder is shifted a bit to make it easier to hold her glass. There's a small sip taken, pleased to ave it, yes. And then? Soon enough? Augustus' man has brought her whiskey and made it clear who has provided it. There's a grateful look in his direction as she's able to, yes. oh yes. Double-fisting alcohol is the way to survive a party. And maybe avoid any further glances from Mason. Ahem.
"Oh, right, not everyone is aware of him yet," the knight remembers sheepishly. "But yes, he does. He tends to avoid events like these, however. Probably not a terrible thing." He lets Joscelin sign accordingly and glances over the list again. "I can attempt to whistle, if that's on yours?"
"Well, you should..." Darren starts talking to Deva, but he trails as a messenger comes sneaking into the event with a note pressing into his hands. He frowns a bit, shaking his head at something, before he looks to Deva and quirks his brows. "Come on, you can leave with me. Something suddenly came up," he indicates. He offers Deva his arm, while raising a hand to offer Dawn an apologetic sort of goodbye wave, as he starts to leave the party.
"Whiskey it is!" Sabella says with excitement, as she hands him her card to write. She seems determined to attempt to win. She smiles as Natalia introduces the family. Her attention turns to Jarek, "Well to see you again, Prince Jarek. I wonder...do you know how to whistle?" She offers him a light wink, moving her card between her fingers in a playful touch.
Natalia gives a light laugh towards Sabella. "Darling cousin of my heart. I do have a cat." She will take the quill to sign her name with a flourish next to the spot. She also returns the kiss. "You must mingle and then gossip with me after the party." Her smile turns to Niccolo. "You are most welcome." She will attempt to air kiss his cheek. "It would not be a party if people did not attend. I am most glad that you took time to do so." Delia is glanced at and then she smiles. "Mistress Delia, it is good you have come. Every party needs inspiration and so you are here." There is a glance towards Augustus for a few moments and then a secret sort of smile. "Thank you for your praise, Your Highness."
"If you choose to say such where many will overhear, I will not object, but I would hardly call myself that," replies Sylvie lightly, humor in her words as she smiles in turn to the harlequin. "I've never said no to such professional entertainment, Blacktongue, and surely I am not about to begin now." As Eleyna joins them, she laughs again, though this sound is drier still as if to match the princess' tone. "Then perhaps we should find you someone soon. Unless, of course, you match another of the criteria on this list?" A pause, before she adds to Blacktongue, "I do not care if I get through the list, but it certainly is something to while away the time of yet another gala."
"That doesn't sound great," Deva grimaces, looking to the note in Darren's hands. With a frown tugging her lips into an exaggerated frown, she tucks her arm into her brother's and heads on out with Darren.
Social event or not, Dawn is attuned to certain currents. Her eyes find Darren's wave, and flick between the pair of Redrain siblings. She limits her reaction to raised eyebrows, a slight nod.
A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Natalia before departing.
"Good to hear," Niccolo replies to Dawn and inclines his head to her. Seeing Darren's departure, the duke inclines his head in his direction. He turns, just in time for Natalia to be kissing his cheek, a gesture that the duke tries nothing to get away from, even offering a faint smile in response to it. "Of course, there was no way I would miss it," he assures.
Valerius finds himself a writing impliment and signs the card next to his name with a flourish and then hands it back to Sabella, "Anything on mine you can sign?" he asks her, "I mean, you do kind of owe me now." he tells her with a good natured chuckle.
Joscelin signs Silas' card as they stand near the entrance, and offers him hers with a laugh. "Fair enough." Dressed in violets, her new curls a halo of ringlets around her head, she twirls the graphite in her fingers and sighs. "And now I have to talk to people. Let's see how this goes. Good luck, Sir Silas," she says, her smile rueful.
"Yet another gala?" Blacktongue parrots Sylvie's last words. "You almost sound like you need a change of pace? Would you rather a sprint? A leisurely stroll?" If there is a play on words anywhere he is certain to find it. He offers the Lady his arm and bows deeply, sweeping an imaginary hat against the ground before rising to his full height again. "I believe the Lady will need a drink before the long and toiling task before us." A glance is given to Eleyna. "Do you require one as well, my Lady?"
Dawn's greeting has Juliet beaming bright and laughs. "It seems we do. It truly is a pleasure, my Lady." Bowing her head. "And may our future meetings be equally pleasant and interesting." She concludes. Listening to Augustus, and wiggling her fingers in a small wave at Silas. Pouting a little at the Redrain siblings leaving. "There goes the armour." She offers, with mock-resignation. Turning her attention to Lou and Mason, giving the princess a nod before she addresses the guest of honour. "I hope that, whatever pains of longing remain for your homeland, Arx can provide some Solace. I frequently find myself missing Tor, though it is not nearly the same, I know."
Eleyna inclines her head politely at Blacktongue and gives Jarek a reserved smile before she glances at the list as requested. She lifts a brow and looks at Sylvie, the corner of her mouth lifted in a near grin as she murmurs, "I'm certain I've called a lover by the wrong name before. Or at least a husband. There's been so many, however would I keep track?" Her pale blue eyes are glittering bemusedly.
Dawn finally, and very belatedly, follows Augustus' suggestion to shift away from the staircase. She holds a hand against the drape that covers her shoulder, obviously none too certain that it will remain on its own, and takes small, gliding steps that carry her around the central dancefloor. Hired dancers! The Lady looks delighted, and watches even as she is given a glass of the dry red wine to sample while men and women spin together. Though... once the fire spinning starts, she wisely makes a hasty retreat and instead moves to accost the party around Lady Sylvie. "My ladies, Master Harlequin. Enjoying yourselves, I hope."
Viktarkim walks out of the Servant's quarters, through the hallway and into the Great Hall. The tall Prodigal archer doesn't get far before he stops, noticing at once that the familiar Great Hall has been transformed with billowing silks, pillows, and strangeness in place of the furniture and stone with which he is more accustomed. The former Abandoned's nose wrinkles at the incense as Viktarkim's dark eyes look around with some surprise. /That/ is what he smelled back in his quarters that drew him out, that and the sounds of people who were gathering. Dressed in his usual leathers, the tattooed and scarred man with the dark hair loose over his shoulders starts walking further into the Hall to see how the festivities progress.
Mason is going to have quite a few good words to say about Natalia when writes in his journal again. There's a mental note somewhere in his head about doing, while sweeping away next to his wife. There's a particular look he gives her, before reaching over to take one of the drinks out of her hands. Probably the whiskey. "Why, you got one for me, how thoughtful of you, my dear." he grins lightly. "There are many things I miss about Ahj'on." he says to Dawn gently. "But, many things I do not like either. These...are the best of things that I do miss. My people were always known for celebrations and this does not disappoint whatsoever. I feel I am home again. It it a strange feeling. But a good feeling. If I could take all that I loved about Ahj'on and condense it, it would be this, surely."
Jarek beams at Sabella "Indeed I can whistle princess, I think someone who wags their tongue as much as I do ought to be able to, otherwise whats all that exercise for?." Eleyna gets a momentary look at the response of only a reserved smile but nothing said.
"There's no possible way *to* miss it," Augustus says in reply to Niccolo's statement, "I believe the smell of the oils alone reaches across the sea." The ancient grump-in-the-guise-of-a-man pauses as his gaze settles on Natalia's secret smile, as if he is attempting to determine the coded meaning behind it. His thoughts are interrupted, however, when Dawn does that thing where noise comes out of her mouth, "I never thought that I would say this aloud, but I often find myself missing the Lyceum. Yes, I know, scandalous." He offers a small incline of his head to Duke Niccolo, "Your house has ever been a delightful host, my lord. I hope that ours proves as well adept at such." Finally, a pewter mug is thrust into his hand a moment after the teacup is removed, "Ah, good. Social lubricant, thank you Jenkins. Please, feel free to... do whatever it is you do."
Silas scans his list again and wanders further into the hall and into the throng of people. "Let me know if you find someone who doesn't drink alcohol and hates chocolate. They seem fun," he answers back to Joscelin once the woman declares her own intention to socialize. He catches Dawn's wiggly wave in the corner of his eye and offers his own variation. Viktarkim was easy to spot, per usual, and the knight offers a wave his way as well.
Another laugh catches in Sylvie's throat for Eleyna's answer, before she replies with a warm, "Oh my dear, how I have missed you at these things. Especially in the city. It isn't that I need a change of pace from the galas, per se, but perhaps-- A change of companionship." Her smoky gaze slides from Eleyna to linger on Blacktongue under the fan of dark eyelashes as she adds, "I am well-pleased to have found you both this evening." She tips her chin, then, affirmative. "A drink, yes, and then let's take a stroll around the room."
Who Mason takes her whiskey, Lou positively glares. In fact, she may even be emulating the kittens embroidered upon her lehenga. "There is plenty for you, in turn, husband. Prince Augustus requested this for me, specifically." And she'll angle from the stairs herself, as the others do, reaching out to try to retrieve the cup back. And if she does? Well, the woman will just move to angle away and intercept Viktarkim. "There is plenty of alcohol if the food is not to your taste," she offers quietly to the Prodigal. The spices of Ah'jon are not for all.
"If I had known, I'd have worn armor myself," Niccolo observes, catching Juliet's observation. "I should consider sending a messenger to Talen, asking him to come by in armor," he muses, rubbing his chin. "I hope the gods find you well, Lady Juliet. Prince Mason, Princess Lou." He turns then to face Augustus, and dips his head respectfully to the older man. "I certainly have no complaints, Your Highness," the duke remarks in response to Augustus. "And I'm certain I won't have any. As well as I'm glad we've pleased you enough to make you miss the Lyceum."
"She can't remember the names, and can't keep track. I say we get her more wine to further along that problem." Blacktongue jests, signaling to a server who promptly brings over a tray and glasses of wine for himself, Eleyna, Jarke and Sylvie. "I've called a lover by the wrong name before, but it was on purpose. Hilarious, her reaction." He sounds cheerful enough, but that is no joke there. He smiles widely and then drinks from his wine, not really taking the time to savor the notes of flavor in it as he drains it. "A change in companionship. I hope a fool will suffice?" he asks of Sylvie. "Even if you sound of and haunt me with it, the tinkling of bells."
Sabella beams toward Natalia and she nods, "There will be much to gossip, but we should leave you time to speak to your other guests." She then looks to Delia and Juliet, "We have more people to meet!" She then responds to Jarek, "Excellent, I had a feeling that your mouth could do such things." She laughs lightly before giving her card to him. Then she turns to Valerius, "I think you will be surprised to learn." She leans over and whispers into his ear.
"It does, thank you very much, my Lord." Juliet beams, sketching a curtsey to Niccolo. "Have you met her highness Princess Sabella? His Highness Prince Valerius? Mistress Delia Whisper? They're all delightful companions," she declares, with a grin, as though responding to Sabella's request.
Joscelin looks around, turning slowly, nervous tension in her shoulders and more. She spots the Shav as he lopes in and grins at Viktarkim, relief in her gold eyes. She heads towards him, eyeing his leathers, and laughs softly, saying something quietly at him.
Princess Natalia glances around the area and angles towards Sophie. There is an amused look upon her features as she watches her and the silks. For a moment, she doesn't say anything. Then a soft. "Do you approve of the decor, Princess? I had thought to bring a little bit of warmth on a cold day. The silks are rather wonderful, are they not?"
Delia frowns when a servant in the livery of the whisper's house tugs on her arm and then slips a missive into her hand. She flips it opened and looks over it with a bit of a pout, leaning over to whisper to Juliet.
Viktarkim gives the Grayson Knight an upnod, "Sir Silas." His dark eyes linger on Dawn over there in all her slendor for a long moment before Lou comes over. To her he twists his mouth wryly, "Depends on the spices, Your Highness. If there is meat and it's not drenched in sweet, it'll do." His baritone is kept low and the Prodigal who clearly didn't dress up for tonight's event gives the Princess a careful looking over, "Are you doing all right?" Very lightly he touches the flat of his own stomach as he watches her. Joscelin's voice turns his head. Viktarkim slips an arm around behind her and cants his head over slightly to better hear whatever she whispers up to him.
Jarek sighns off on Sabellas card and hands it back to her with a smile "very good guess Princess Grayson. Might I add you look lovely tonight." He steps into the throng of people a little "Prince Thrax, its good to see you again. Some day perhaps there wont be a party and we can get a drink all our own" Jarek says with a grin to the man. He leans towards Juliet some and offers a smile "a pleasure as always Lady Fidante, and you too look quite wonderful" a look to Delia still smiling "I do not believe we have met, Jarek of Velenosa, its a pleasure." A grin to Niccolo "uncle, its good to see you again. We should try for a drink again some time."
"My wife was a Velenosa," Augustus says with another incline of the head to Niccolo, "We both served at court in Lenosia for many decades. Everything I know, I learned from the combined wits of your house and my own, sir." He pauses and offers a brief, wry smile, "Take that as compliment or insult, depending on how you find my applications of such knowledge." He swishes the amber liquid in the pewter mug a little before necking the lot in one, without so much as a murmer of discomfort. Clearly he has the Expert Whiskey Drinker merit badge.
Mason sighs at Lou, rolling his eyes, and handing the whiskey back to Lou. "Very well, here, I suppose tonight we can be lenient on things." Should've known better to get in the way of Lou and her whiskey. But Vik is one worth seeking, deciding to tag along with the wife. "Vik, good to see you. Isn't it amazing?" The comment about the food gets a nod. "It's not for the faint of heart, that's for certain. But yes, plenty of drink if that's what you're looking for."
Delia curtsies to Jarek, "We have not. And it is an honor. Unfortunately I must excuse myself, if you do not mind."
Valerius laughs at what's whispered to him and hands over his card to Sabella, before turning to Juliet and Nicolo "No, I don't belive i've had the pleasure." he says holding out a hand to Niccolo, "Prince Valerius Thrax." he tells the man, "Also, may I say." he says glancing to the women in his little group, "You ladies look absolutely beautiful tonight. Truly, jewels of Arx itself." he says laying on the charm with a warm smile.
Seemingly lost in a world of sensory pleasure, Sophie continues to stroll, blissfully breathing in the fragrant air and basking in the warmth of the room, her fingers still gliding across any swath of silk that her extended hand encounters. At first, it may seem that she is unaware of Natalia's presence, but, eventually, something registers and she murmurs, quite dreamily, "It is all so beautiful."
Eleyna pointedly takes a sip of wine when Blacktongue suggests she drinks more, responding in a deadpan tone once she swallows, "I thought most people drink wine to forget." For Sylvie, her smile is almost warm, but just barely, "Beware, my dear. My company might earn your brother-in-law's wrath. Not that I mind, but you have to spend time with him. I don't."
With Valerius' words, Augustus - from his place nearby Niccolo and the band of merry wenches... and Lou... - arches an eyebrow, "A scion of the House of Thrax with such adroitness and charm? My, my." He offers a small nod to the Thraxan Prince and with it a small narrowing of the eyes, "It seems that I have, in fact, lived long enough to see absolutely everything."
Whatever Valerius says, causes a noticeable shiver, and she grins at him, "Of course- that could always change." She turns her attention to Jarek, "Thank you! My cousin Princess Natalia designed my yellow gown. I love sunflowers, and it seemed different for the season. Yellow does make one stand out." When Delia moves to leave, Sabella hugs her warmly and kisses her shoulder, "Until we meet again, Mistress." She smiles to Niccolo and offers a warm greeting. "Might there be something on this card that matches you, m'lord?"
Joscelin leans into the arm around her, going quiet for the people that are already with him, the plump, pretty jeweler lifting her chin to peer around the hall, and maybe mumble something back.
"No, yes but not in person, and no," Niccolo replies to Juliet, looking first to Sabella then Valerius and finally to Delia. He dips his heads in their direction. "Good to meet and see you all," he offers as way of greetings, taking Valerius' hand. To Jarek he shows a hint of a grin. "We shall, and we should spar some time as well, Prince Nephew. Good to see you made it here." Once more, his attention goes to Augustus and the duke lifts a brow, followed by a chuckle. "Lady Dawn speaks highly of you, Your Highness," he tells the older prince. "So I'll take it as a compliment. We should aim to share a drink some time, and perhaps share a few stories about Lenosia. I spent most of my time there after marrying Carlotta. This city," he gestures around. "Was more her thing than mine."
Addressed by Sabella, he turns to her. "Your Highness," he looks at the card. "There are a couple of apply. Would you like to guess which?" He wonders, looking from the card, back to the woman.
"Your highness, I have rarely cared what the Lord Rubino disapproves of; frankly, I find it hard to keep track," responds Sylvie smoothly, dismissal written in her tones as she smiles at the other woman. She accepts the glass of wine with another, brighter smile, before she lifts it to her lips. And she will start the stroll she mentioned, perhaps expecting them to move with her, as she answers, "You more than suffice, I assure you. And they are coins, not bells. Are you sure you wouldn't want to wear my belt, Master Blacktongue? Perhaps you might enjoy it more than you expect."
Valerius laughs openly at Agustus' words, "I know! I even washed all the blood and seasalt off me from family dinner before showing up." he says with a wry grin, "Fear not, I can still pull someones tongue out their rear end if the occasion requires it, though I haven't been to a Thraxian party like that in months." he says in a way to sound like maybe he's not entirely joking.
"It is rather .. dream like quality." Natalia offers to Sophie. She will attempt to reach out and weave her arm through the woman's. "Have you stopped to have lavender oil rubbed on your feet? I promise it is modest and they will take care to treat you well." This is where she will attempt to lead Sophie. "There are silks there as well."
No, no one gets between Lou and her whiskey. Especially not when given to her by dear family, right? The woman has no shame in holding both glasses, though she is only sipping from them very sparingly. There's a hint of a smile from the Grayson to Viktarkim at his query and she tilts her head in a nod. "I am well enough thank you. As for the meat... I can't say I wouldn't mind something a bit strong in spice." A look towards Mason, her head tilting. "Do you know what she has gone with for food?"
Sabella grins at his question, "Hmm...." She looks at him from head to toe, as if that might give her some clue. "Let me see, do you own a dog...or a snake...? Maybe you know how to juggle? Am I close at all..?"
Joscelin laughs, noting all the whiskey on Lou, and offers the woman her card to sign, "Next to 'prefers whiskey'?" Her gold eyes sparkle with good humor. "I'll sign yours for the eyecolor."
"People drink for a wide array of reasons, your Highness. If you are drinking to forget we must find a way to make your life less worth forgetting, more worth remembering." Blacktongue advises Eleyna, rather chipper. The apple he had been eating before has miracuously vanished, more slight of hand on the Harlequin's part that left it in some poor sod's hood of his cloak. No doubt, the others in attendance to the party have seen it around. "Whose wrath awe be warning about now? A name is far more potent than a vague generalization." He ah's as Sylvie supplies it, beginning to walk beside her with a glance to Eleyna, "I do hope you'll continue to join us?" He gives a gentle shake of his head. "No, I am rather alright without a jingle announcing my every step. Besides, the coins are meant to draw attention to the hips if we are to be honest."
Where has Dawn been? Waylaid by work, of course. The lady has been off to the side, caught by a clerk intent on murmuring and gesturing to the papers he's carrying. She nods, she sips her wine, she makes a few remarks in return and he ventures off looking satisfied. That leaves her free to return to the celebration, sliding back in beside Augustus and tucking her empty hand in the crook of her great-uncle's arm. Yes, Grayson's Voice is brave enough to venture into Prince Augustus' bubble of space, without a care if he bites. "Do you know, I haven't even begun my event card. Are there any interesting clues on there?"
"The dress was a gift from the Princess Natalia," Juliet beams bright, twirling slightly for Valerius and Niccolo, and honestly anyone else nearby. "She saw me shivering yesterday and took manners into her own hands. Though admittedly, I think it may be a bit too warm for the current climes. My head is swimming a little." Letting out a little sigh. "Perhaps I should get some fresh air."
"I suspect it wise that I never visit the kingdom of Ahj'on," Sophie notes with some self-deprecating humor, "I fear I would do nothing more than bask for all my hours." And now that she is engaging in some semblance of conversation, the Mercy appears to be regaining her wits. Companionably, she permits herself to be led, smiling amiably at Natalia. With good cheer, she laughs at the silks remark. "Oh, your Highness, as wonderful as they are, it goes well beyond that. It... everything." That final world a bit breathy as she again takes it all in.
"Likely curry and some other things. Though I would recommend the kababs. They are very good. I wouldn't say entirely sweet. I've always thought it was more a savory flavor personally, but that's my own opnion. People from Arvum might think otherwise. However, I would tell to try the nann bread. Though I would get some while you can, that'll likely run out fast. Personally, I love the stuff." Mason describes lightly, reaching out for a passing by servert for a glass of something likely alcoholic. "But yes, I would say the kababs, that's my best best for you."
Jarek smirks a little at Niccolo "I think I would be the worst sparring partner in all of Arx uncle, though if you've a very particular need to bash me around for something I've done I suppose I can't fault you for it. I'm happy the Graysons would have me." A smile and a nod to Delia "well, perhaps some other time then" he says to her as she departs. To Sabella "Princess Natalia has an eye for fashion in the way some have an eye for war, from the amount of ladies who have spoken of her choices I feel that she is close to deciding what the whole city wears. The yellow most certainly suits you."
Valerius hears a whisper from Juliet and nearly spits out his whiskey and chokes a bit, he regains his compsure quickly enough and whispers back, before arching an eyebrow at Sabella and whispering to her a quick moment.
Eleyna chuckles softly and takes Sophie's arm as they begin to stroll, murmuring, "Well, then maybe we will become better friends after all." Eleyna glances at Blacktongue, brows lifting. "To the hips?" She pauses, giving sufficient time to Blacktongue to make what should be some witty reply, as if the Velenosa Princess knows how to play the 'straight man' appropriately.
Silas has joined the Emerald Couch.
Reaching into his pocket, Augustus frowns and draws out the core of a rather soggy apple, "The fu..." he pauses and frowns as he stares at it, a look of incredulity spreading upon his features as he glances up to glare at the various courtiers - none of whom paying him the least bit of attention - that is until Dawn approaches. The aged Prince stuffs the core back into his pocket and tilts his head to gaze side-long at the young sunshine girl, "Mistress Joscelin has golden eyes, Princess Loucia enjoys camping, I dislike chocolate. I dare say the Harlequin Lord can juggle, You have a dog..." He shrugs his shoulders slightly and frowns, "So very many options."
Silas begins inspecting people much like they were zoo animals as they busied themselves with lively conversations, all whilst happily feasting on the finger foods. Alas, he could not find someone unusually tall nor someone unusually short. Instead of creepily slinking along the fringe of the gathering, he decides to make a pit stop on the vibrant green couch that matches his own attire. Why not?
Niccolo rubs his chin and shakes his head at Sabella. "Not quite. Although my ward does own a snake," he shares. "Put me down for having children," he decides. "Although they're quite grown up these days," he muses and lifts his shoulders, allowing a touch of a smile to his features. His gaze finds Juliet when she twirls. "You look quite beautiful in it," he says of the dress. "Then again, you always look quite beautiful, my lady," he points out. "Then maybe I should give you a lesson or two," he tells Jarek in response to his words, amused. "It's never too late to learn, Prince Nephew."
Sabella blushes when Juliet leans against her and Valerius and speaks of something quite scandalous! She giggles softly, and she looks at Valerius, "I am sure that it was for some other reason..." She laughs again. Her gaze than moves back to the Duke, awaiting his answer. She claps as Juliet spins for them. At Valerius whisper, Sabella nods to him. She whispers back into his ear. At Jarek's compliment, she moves to give her own spin, "Thank you, I think the yellow brings out the honey color of my blond hair."
Ooh, he used the name. Truly that recitation of facts is interesting, but Dawn seems rather more interested in Lou's reaction to Augustus rattling off the forbidden syllables. She lifts her eyebrows and turns her head to study the whiskey-guarding princess.
It is true; the swathe of sunkissed stomach and hips exposed by her outfit is drawn more attention to, perhaps, by the silver coins that wrap around her hips. And as they begin walking, the coins start to jingle again as Sylvie offers a smile to Blacktongue. "Never let it be said that a Lycene is /subtle/ in their attempt to draw attention," she replies with self-deprecating humor, before falling silent as Eleyna sets up the man for a joke.
Viktarkim will so helpfully pluck one of the glasses out of Lou's hand to /help/ her with it. The whiskey glass of course. "You should be careful not to drink too much strong spirits. I'm supposed to be looking out for you, Your Highness." The Prodigal eyes the cards and tries to taste the whiskey if Lou doesn't natch it back from him. Or kick him in the shin! Surely if Lou is determined or quick she can keep him from getting away with her glass. He drops his voice to rumble something back to Joscelin, something about a bow.
Sabella responds to Niccolo, "Thank you, m'lord." She offers her card to him, so he could sign his name by having children.
Jarek smiles at Niccolo and shakes his head "I think it is far far too late for me uncle. I am a lover not a fighter. Though, your eagerness to get me in a sparring match means I think you really are tempted to hit me. I must have done something worse than normal." Of course, its all said lightly with a grin, clearly joking with the man. He turns his head to Sabella and nods "indeed it does. Some day some smart lady is going to finally get me to dress up, and I can only hope that it comes off nearly as well as it does for you and Lady Fidante."
Whatever whisper Juliet has received between the two princes has her grinning, and while she waggles her eyebrows it is Jarek she turns to. "Will you perhaps assist me, then, your highness? I would require one of the silke swatches here, and I fear that I may draw the wrath of house Grayson if I am to retrieve one for myself." Her little card forgotten, for all she was absorbed by the game as the party started.
Natalia laughs softly for Sophie. "Well I do understand. I had fun putting it all together." She tips her head and considers. "PErhaps we should have a ladies pampering party soon. We can deck it out much the same way and then sit gossip and feel good about ourselves." She winks towards the woman and will leave her in the hands of those giving the massages. "Also... do see if you can meet someone you have not yet met. I mean I know you know everyone." A smile and she will leave Sophie for now to mingle around to the other guests. She will move towards Sylvie and Eleyna.
"Yes. To the hips. A woman wears such things on her hips so men like me, and others will stare at them. Why do you think low-hanging necklaces were all the rage for a while?" Blacktongue pointedly asks Eleyna as they continue to walk alongside Sylvie about the hall. Every now and again a piece of fruit or kabob will vanish from a plate, popping up in random places but leaving none the wiser where it came from. One guest reaches up to adjust his hat and throws a fit when he finds that kabob stick was resting where the jaunty feather was meant to be. "I rather like that you aren't subtle. Then again, who am I to throw rocks in a room of mirrors?" He grins widely, a black gloved hand raising to stroke his fingers along his jawline and drawing attention to his beard dyed a bright green.
Sabella looks around the room, and her gaze pauses on Josceline. She makes her way over there, "You have such beautiful golden eyes. I am Princess Sabella Grayson. WIll you sign my card?"
Two for two. Lou is caught off-guard by someone //saying her full name// just enough that Viktarkim is able to take her whiskey. "There is nothing wrong with having a bit of drink." There's a frustration in the woman's voice. One, for the terrible backstabbing blow of someone she //liked// using her full name. And then for another trusted individual taking her whiskey. "Fine. //Someone// get me something to eat." No, no. Fussing over Lou does not lead to a happy woman.
Joscelin abruptly squeals and then hastily covers her mouth, eyes wide, cheeks pink. She splutters at Sabella and has to start over a few times. "Ah! Um- yes! Can you sign m-mine, your highness?" she stammers at the princess, giving Viktarkim the dirtiest look she can summon.
Niccolo signs his name on Sabella's card, looking amused. He side glances at Jarek. "Don't worry. If there was a reason for a beating, I'd just plain out tell you," he assures the Velenosa prince. He finds himself looking between Jarek and Juliet, lifting his brow at the later. "Someone's about to get you in trouble," he tells his nephew, offering a faint smile to Juliet.
Jarek grins at Juliet "and you wish the wrath of house Grayson to be upon me Lady Fidante? Why, one might think you're just trying to get me into trouble." he says clearly amused "that seems the sort of thing one grabs on the way out, unless you were wishing to make a madcap escape right now."
Joscelin, blushing, also adds, "Joscelin Arterius, your highness," to Sabella. So very flustered. She tries to step on Viktarkim's foot.
The music in the area changes to something far more familiar as there is room upon the dance floor if anyone wishes it. While the fire dancers move out, the belly dancers continue to move throughout the area. There are those giving the massages to the side with lavender oil for those that want. The change of music allows for people to dance should they desire.
Dawn's eyebrows climb higher. "Shall I mention here that I expressly requested that Princess Lou be allowed a drink in celebration of the night?" she mentions, at all of the jockeying for position to steal the woman's sweet, sweet alcohol. The Lady lifts her hand again, a new servant summoned to present another glass-- wine, not whiskey, but the effect should be the same. "And you should know better," she adds with a mild but amused sidelong glance at Augustus. "Teasing women is never a safe proposition, Uncle Augustus, but teasing /Lou/ is downright dangerous."
Eleyna smiles faintly at Blacktongue's quip as well as his antics, which is about as much amusement as anyone sees on the princess' face. "Lycenes are so subtle with our words that we can be afforded the indulgence to be unsubtle with other things." She slants a glance at Sylvie's hips before her icy eyes drift back to her face. "You look lovely. I feel rather overdressed."
Joscelin's squeal distracts Juliet, for a moment, as she glances in the direction of Sabella and the Arterius woman. Quirking her lips, before turning her attention to uncle and nephew, brushing her fingers against Niccolo's chest. "I dare say I could get you both in trouble, if I put my mind to it." Glancing over her shoulder to Jarek, quirking an eyebrow at him and giving him a little smirk. "I think I will see what caused such a delightful noise." She concludes, moving away with a little wave of her fingers to the two, and making her way after Sabella. "Who -is- your very loud friend with the pretty eyes, your highness?"
Princess Sabella smiles warmly to the Josceline, "Most certaintly! May I have your name. I think I may have seen you in this house, but I don't think we have formally met." She then turns to Viktarkim and introduces herself. "Is there something on this list that matches you, sir?" When she takes the woman's card, she signs her name next to 'Plays a musical instrument.'
"Don't stare, dear," Augustus chides softly as he pats at Dawn's hand with the pinky of his whiskey-holding hand, "It's impolite. She heard. She *always* hears." He arches an eyebrow as his gaze falls back upon the Voice and he offers a small shrug, "I married a Velenosa, little dove. Believe me, I know all about the dangers of women... especially women that include assassins in her little address book." He pauses and frowns slightly, "Weirdest honeymoon ever." The elder statesman shakes his head slightly and sighs, "I'm sure I'll make it up to her. Might get her an embroidery set... with a pattern of lovely little flowers and faeries or some such."
There's also a card being held her way and Lou blinks rapidly. She'd almost forgotten about all of that. Or more likely, the //game// isn't quite her thing. Still, she has no problem signing off on Joscelin's card and allowing the jeweler to do such in return. Even if it's the only name she gets in return.
"-I- will go and get you a plate, Your Highness." Viktarkim offers graceously but he doesn't give Lou back the whiskey. It's his now. Before Joscelin might swat him the Prodigal takes his cue to slip away and go find the food table though her tiny foot tries to stomp his boot in passing. Haha. He notices Sabella, whom he hasn't met yet. The barbaric Shav covered in tattoos and scars, openly armed here and dressed in forest leathers, inclines his head politely to her and eases past. He heads for the food tables to see about getting Lou a suitable meal - and maybe a plate for himself as well. Spicy meats and sauces should do, vegetables, bread, and cheese. Perhaps a piece of sweet fruit for each.
Jarek looks to Niccolo and grins "we both saw that one coming." He looks too Juliet and smirks "I don't know that I need more help getting into trouble Lady Fidante, but I certainly know where to look now if I need to get myself into an even worse situation." He looks back to Niccolo and grins again "I trust that you would tell me honestly Uncle if I needed a beating, still, I think I will stick to watching sparring matches rather than partakeing in them."
Valerius grins at Juliet and holds out a hand, "You look like a woman who needs a dance before she gets herself or someone else in trouble." he says grinning. "Would you like to?" he asks.
Wait? Massage? Everything else that Natalia said immediately dissolves the moment Sophie is gently set down, a bevy of servant tending to her. There is no resistance as her boots and socks are removed, and by the time the foot rubs begins, the Mercy is a gurgling mess of euphoria, for her hand and scalp massages already got a head start. After the most trying and unfortunate day she had at the House of Solace, it is evident that Lagoma is blessing her utterly devoted disciple.
As the music changes, it is Sylvie that turns to Eleyna, offering her a warmly murmured, "Dance with me? We'll solve your problems of feeling overdressed." Quite possibly not by undressing, but still, she doesn't wait for an answer before she reaches to curve her warm fingers around the other woman's wrist, smiling to Blacktongue. She adds, lightly, promising, "I doubt I could be subtle if I tried. We will return." And then she will pull Eleyna to the dance floor, unless she like-- doesn't want to go. That thought doesn't seem to cross her mind.
If there was ever a moment when Mason's mood could turn, this would be coming to it. He gave the drink back, so he winces. "You might want to give that back, Vik. Just saying, it already worked poorly once for me." But then again, the other man doesn't share the same room with either. Mason clearly has more to lose on that one. But also knows when to leave his wife be, especially when she's getting a little annoyed. Best thing to do is just leave the matter alone, so he'll move away, mostly to go around to where the sands been placed. He for one, wants to walk on sand again, feel it under his feet.
Princess Sabella smiles warmly to the Josceline, "Most certaintly! It is a pleasure to meet you Miss Arterius. I am curious as to what has you so excited... It could not be my status, there are many a Princess about.." She then smiles when Juliet joins her, "This is Josceline Arterius. Josceline, this is Lady Juliet."
"My nephew, I'm certain you can get in trouble. But I think you'll find it harder to do so with me," Niccolo tells Juliet, with a glance to those fingers brushing against his chest and then inclining his head to the woman as she moves on to rejoin Sabella. "You should go and mingle is what you should do," he pats Jarek on the shoulder. The duke makes his way to Blacktongue, Sylvie and Eleyna, just in time to hear Sylvie's invitation to Eleyna. "My lady," he greets Sylvie, "Princess Niece," he does the same with Eleyna, "And old friend. You ended up showing up," he notes to Blacktongue. To Sylvie and Eleyna he adds, "You both look quite beautiful."
Joscelin beams at Sabella, still blushing, and grins at Juliet as she's introduced to her. She offers a delicately callused hand. "Good evening," she chuckles, mock-scowling at Viktarkim as he escapes her wrath... for now. "Lady Juliet... Fidante?" she asks, eyes going a little wide. "-The- Lady Juliet? The Walking Blossom of Scandal?"
Change of directions. That happens. Natalia moves over towards Joscelin with a large smile. "Ah... my dearest gem in the rough. How are you finding the party?" Her lips again curve up to Sabella and then she smiles towrds Juliet. If allowed, each of the women get a cheek kiss (This might be a second for the evening too).
"That sounds like a lovely idea," Dawn says approvingly of Augustus' suggested gift. Because, as generous as she is with the booze, she can also be somewhat terrible too. She gives Augustus' arm a squeeze and then slips away again-- only to end up intercepted yet again on her way to the food. This time, the Lady is drawn away into conversation with a very agitated clerk and it doesn't appear she'll surface any time soon.
Joscelin responds hastily, returning Natalia's kiss. "You did all this?" she asks the young princess. "I'm astounded!"
Jarek is ditched by everyone now, so he goes to join someone who seems like they are having the absolute time of their life. Jarek walks over to Sophie and grins at the fellow cleric. "Why, Sister Sophie, you look like you're having the best time in the entire world right now."
It is a moment in which is likely for the best to leave Lou be. Or attempt to appease her, at the very least. The woman's stolen drink is replaced and she opts to move for a seat as she sips at it. Though she may have gotten looks from husband and shah both, at least she's not drinking to get drunk. No, just sparse little sips now and again. Her pale eyes do shift to watch Mason on the sand within the hall. And, to anyone nearby: "I do not envy the poor souls who have to take that back out."
Blacktongue murmurs something softly to Eleyna, nodding his head respectfully before he drinks from his wine a little more. The feather he lifted, from the guy now sporting a kabob in its place on his hat, is tucked into an unsuspecting Lady's elaborate updo. It sways comically and makes her seem like a bird of paradise next to her garish garb. "I prefer indulgences in subtle remarks masked by unsubtle truths, masquerading as a jest. It is better when they laugh while you do it; it doesn't dawn on them until hours later." The Jester waxes poetic for a moment and muses to Eleyna and Slyvie, "What are flattering words, but honey-coated poison? Or wine-soaked, if you are in the Lyceum." He lifts his glass in silent toast to that. "Ah, I am being abandoned. MY heart will break." he promises Sylvie.
Blacktongue adds to Niccolo in a friendly jibe, "And my even older friend, you showed up as well. Your wine hand is empty."
"Ah, the wonderful mistress of metals. So delighted to finally meet you, messere Arterius." Juliet curtseys, taking Joscelin's hand and offering a kiss. Laughing at the title. "Walking Blossom of Scandal. And here I thought I was the Rose of Tor. Quite frankly, I think I prefer your title for me, messere Arterius." She grins, and glances idly in the direction of Duke and Prince, and then giving Natalia a hug in turn - though when Natalia goes for the cheek kiss, Juliet is sure to turn her face just so, so that their lips touch in a light peck. "The party is ever so delightful, your highness. Thank you once again. Perhaps I should get into it in the same way as her highness Sabella and get you to sign my list." Looking to Valerius, at his offer, she reaches out to draw him in. "Your offer is very tempting, but wouldn't you rather get to know all these wonderful women? Surely two of them will be to your taste." Her grin turning wicked.
"Of course it's a lovely idea," Augustus says as he releases his arm from Dawn's hand to aid in her escape, "It was my idea." He frowns slightly as he is left alone, with an empty pewter cup. The cup, however, is soon refilled with the near-magical appearance of Jenkins pouring from a large clear bottle. Augustus has wandered from his original spot, finally, though not far as he finds himself seated almost directly next to Lou. "I'll be sure to have it delivered to your room. To make sure your husband stays as... whistful as he is this evening."
It takes him a minute or two but once he has two plates filled, Vitarkim makes his way back. As he only has enough hands for the two plates he knocked back the whiskey and left the glass on the table back there. Lou is presented with her choice of the plates to choose whichever of the two she might prefer to go with her wine - she did have two glasses and now she has a hand free to hold a plate! He is so helpful. Viktarkim looks back to Sabella as he resumes his place next to Joscelin. He glances at the card in her hand, "I ... do not understand?" It is to Joscelin the second plate is offered, "Have you eaten? Do you want a glass of wine?"
Eleyna glances at Blacktongue with a lifted brow and a faint smile, perhaps in response to whatever was murmured to her. She mutters something softly before she offers a nod to Niccolo, "Dearest Uncle. Forgive me, but Lady Sylvie is just now stealing me away for a dance. I'm sure you can see how hard she is to resist tonight." There's a gleam in her icy eyes as she moves with Sylvie toward the dance floor.
The adventuring Grayson is actually back up to //two// glasses, but she's settled at a table and therefor only has one in hand at a time. It also gives Lou a place to put her plate once Viktarkim brings it. Her expression does soften at the delivery of food and she claims the one that appears to have more meats on it. "Thank you, Vik," she offers in a quiet voice. But then there's Augustus and she gives him a rather droll expression. "I am not above having you dumped in the middle of a ravine."
A most skillful foot rub just may be one of Sophie's Achille's heels. (In her defense, he spends an inordinate amount of time walking and standing, tending to the ill and injured. Also, foot rubs are awesome.) A most skillful massage just may be her other Achille's heel. (Anyone who would fault her surely must be demon spawn and should immediately be hauled off to the Hall of Questions.) It takes a moment, but Jarek is eventually answers with an unintelligible, grurgle-mumble-sigh. At the very least, she likely is saying hello. The Mercy is also generous enough to, eventually, gently tug back her massaged hand to indicate the servant should tend to her fellow disciple.
Sabella looks at Juliet, "You are the Walking Blossom of Scandal!? I wish I had such a clever nickname as that. I shall endeavor to find one for my own some day." When Natalia comes over and kisses them again, she kisses her cousin's cheek back. "I need more wine!" it's an understatement, since she has not had any at all. When a server is near, she grabs one and takes a good swallow. She smiles when Juliet appears to encourage Valerius to dance with someone else. She wiggles her fingers, "I adore dancing!" She then looks at Vik as he returns, "Have you danced in the forest before? Or perhaps enjoy camping or dislike desserts?"
"I plan to solve that quite soon," Niccolo assures Blacktongue. "How have you been enjoying yourself so far?" he asks the jester, with a curious expression and a lift of his shoulders. "And when was the last time to you came to one of these," he gestures around them. "Of course, enjoy yourself, dear niece," he tells Eleyna, allowing a faint smile in her direction.
Valerius grins at Juliet, "There is always time." he says, "But that's fine, I get it, you can't dance and don't want to be embaressed." he tells her, then he smiles at Sabella "Ah, then would you like to? I was intending to offer earlier but you were otherwise engaged." he explains.
"Ah, but then who will you drink with," Augustus intones with a short shrug, sipping from his whiskey gently, "When Lady Dawn foists upon you more duties that keep you from your adventures?" He shakes his head slightly, "First it's 'do me this little favour' next she's naming your children as heirs to some march in the middle of nowhere, making Masun a priest, and declaring every Friday is 'no pants Friday'." His eyes finally shift to wash over the various dancers, male and female, with a raised eyebrow, "Please tell me you're not going to dance."
Even the Lady Sylvie Zaffria, unstoppable force that she may appear, stops as Duke Niccolo draws to their little group. Her fingers don't leave from their encircled capture of Princess Eleyna's wrist, even as she dips lower with a smooth curtsey that sets coins to jingling again. "My lord duke," she greets warmly. "Thank you. And do not go far, because I claim you for my next dance. Perhaps in the meantime, you can help my darling friend past his broken heart?" She turns to flash a brighter smile at Blacktongue, amusement dancing in her gaze as it sweeps over him, as she adds, "I shall have to be careful, when I find your words funny, then." And with that, she does lead Eleyna off, pulling her too close as they step onto the floor, her fingers moving to curve at the other woman's hips instead.
Jarek shakes his head at the servant and smiles "I don't need a footrub" he says with a bit of a laugh "I wouldn't want to impose" maybe thats the reason, or maybe Jarek feels uncomfortable with that level of pampering, especially at a party. "I couldn't distract them from you either Sister Sophie, you seem like you need it."
Sylvie has joined the Dance Floor.
Joscelin takes the plate, her eyes a little wide, the Shav forgiven pretty instantly. "I.... no not for ..." -days- "A while. Thank you," she murmurs to Viktarkim, and then looks to Juliet with a smile. "It's only rumor, forgive me. I've heard at least one woman in Tor can't show her face in public because of you, and is it three men? assigned to distant posts?" Her eyes sparkling with playful humor, she nods to Valerius, and grins at Sabella. "I like 'Mistress of Metals', makes me sound respectable and dignified." Not like Joscelin has her own scandal following her around.
"At the gala your daughter hosted." Blacktongue reminds Niccolo, but only after turning an ear to Eleyna's whipser and when his brows raise, he murmurs something back before the pair of women depart for their dance. He turns back to the Duke. A wave of two of his fingers and a servant brings Niccolo and Blacktongue a glass of wine. "There, I solved it for you. All in a day's work." he drawls in his rasp, downing a good deal of wine in a hearty swallow. "I have been enjoying myself, making my amusment wheren I may.." he looks pointedly to the few bits of misplaced mischief he has been carrying on throughout the night. "My broken heart is mended by fair faces and other fairer things, my Lady." he promises Sylvie when she comments.
Natalia laughs softly to the nickname and to the fact that Juliet stole the kiss. "Now Milady, we only kiss on the lips behind closed doors." She winks towards her. "It seems you are making good on your word to kiss all your friends." Then she looks towards Valerius. "Now tell me, what would a Thraxian do with two women that he admires? Please ... spare no details." She waits a bit as she looks around the area."
Mason is pensive for a long moment, stepping barefoot onto the sand. He didn't wear shoes anyways, and it's not beyond cultural aspects to not wear them at all in Ahj'on. And he just kind of stands there, perhaps basking in the feel of it. Enough that he closes his eyes, perhaps trying imagine the sun on his face. It's a close approximation of what it might be like. And for right now, it's enough for him. But as much as he might be in his own little world, he has enough wherewithall to still be listening. "We'll name our own children." he notes over at Augustus. "And I'm not priest. And your gods are all well and pleasant, but Ahj'oni have their own. So I feel I would make a poor one for Arvum."
"I've made love in a forest. Does that count?" Juliet suggests, to Sabella, with a quirk of her lips as the Princess expresses equal admiration for her new favourite nickname. Quirking her lips at Valerius in turn. "Well, now you'll never know first-hand, will you, my dear prince." She pats his shoulder. "As I was saying before, my head is already swimming from the heat." Quirking her lips at Joscelin's comment. "At least one young lady yes. Possibly more. And half-a-dozen men have apparently earned consignments in the Oathlands after sharing the pleasure of my company. I hope they still found the experience worth it." She adds, then turns her back to Natalia, talking to the princess over her shoulder. "The dress is lovely, but far too hot. Will you help me live up to the nickname gifted me by Messere Arterius, and lighten my garb until we can find something more fitting?" Gesturing to the tightly laced thread at the small of her back.
"Soon enough, they'd rather you not drink with me," Lou offers to Augustus. in a wry voice. Another sip of win and she's instead settling in to eat. With a decent appetite, at that. "As for the adventuring..." There's a bit of a scoff. She's not phased by the spices, either. Damnit, Mason. "He means she'll decide our childrens' futures as well," she notes to her husband. "Giving them some manse or another to rule. Not a terrible life, really. Less of your type-" she points, with a kabob, at the older man, "to deal with. As for names, I think she's already attempting to claim naming rights to this one."
...surely a slip of the tongue.
Valerius rolls his eyes, "Isn't it obvious?" he asks Natalia gamely, "We would start up a musical trio and travel the land singing songs of war, love and scandal." he says grinning, "Can't have a good singing group without a good baritone and two that can hit the higher notes."
"I'll be right here," Niccolo tells Sylvie, with a dip of his head. "Enjoy yourself," his attention turns back to Blacktongue and he chuckles, shaking his head. "I'm not counting that one," he says. "You kind of were expected to show up to that one. And I was the co-host of that gala, you know," he points out, amused. He accepts the glass of wine brought by the servant. "What would I do without you," he tells the other man. "You should consider asking someone to dance," he suggests. "Just make sure it's not me."
While remaining on the topic of fairness -- and because Vellichor likes he records to be most thorough -- if Sophie had been left to her own devices, she wouldn't not have sought out such pampering for myriad reason. Now that she's there, though, it would be hideously rude to decline. Again, she murmurs something intelligible to Jarek before rolling her neck and shoulders with an exhausted groan off-set by a deep sigh of contentment. "How fare you, Brother?" It's soft and a little mumbled but at least the words can be deciphered.
"You would be surprised, Prince Masun," Augustus says with a shrug of his lean shoulders, "Most of the Priests in Arvum make poor ones as well." IF the old man is phased by whatever slippage of tongue, aside from whatever slippage and tongue-related activities are happening with Juliet, the Prince makes no expression of it. "There is a rumour going about," he says eventually, "That some brewers in... Gemecitta, I think? That are working on non-alcoholic wine. All of the taste, none of the point." He shifts his gaze towards Lou slightly and offers yet another shrug, "Perhaps it could be worth investing in, hmm? Grayson's Own Whine Wine."
Viktarkim has no clue who Sabella may be but he laughs, "Aye, of course I have danced in the forest. I am from mountains very far from here." So that covers camping too, but not in the nice and pretty ways she probably means. He too snags a glass of wine from the same passing server that Sabella does, and offers the glass to Joscelin. The tattooed Prodigal bowman's gaze is distracted when he notices the half naked dancers - wiggling bared bellies and hips, one of them with fire to throw and twirl about. Whoa, this -is- a serious party. He may have to drift over that way to see what they are doing. If Joscelin doesn't break his toes first.
Natalia's brows hike up a bit as Juliet asks her to help her undress. There is a shrug and the princess moves in to loosen the strings. "Yes, I thought I should have warned you about the heat, but I was not aware you were going to wear it tongight." There is a look over at the Thraxian prince and Natalia nods her head. "Of course... I can seee that. Yes." Then she smiles at Joscelin. "I am glad the cothing fits you well. The dress looks stunning on you."
Whatever Blacktongue murmurs to Eleyna will have to wait for a response for Sylvie's hands on her hips have claimed all of Eleyna's attention for the time being. While Eleyna is perhaps the most reserved member of House Velenosa, she is still a Velenosa and so, when Sylvie pulls her close, Eleyna's hand slides up to rest against the back of the other woman's neck as she leans in to murmur directly into Sylvie's ear, "So, shall we scandalize the party and show them a proper Lycene dance, my dear?"
Runa enters the hall with the look of one who love to take in every detail. Hands folded before her and covered by a slim warmer, she comes with the attitude of a pilgrim, but definitely not dressed as one. A fine blue dress that covers from neck to ankles, though from the shoulders down her arms are bare, until it reaches the long soft silk that covers forearms to fingers. Gold embroidery is upon her hems and tight waistline, though its knots, vines and birdies attempt to be a minimal addition. Her hair is pulled back from her face and woven upwards with the help of a small net of silver. She takes in the vast array of people, who distract her from the architecture and decor. The sheer number of souls is daunting. So many interesting individuals within this sea of humanity.
"I'm certain you dance pretty, but you're not pretty for me to look at." Blacktongue laughs as a vulpine grin curls his lips. His eyes dance across the room as he tastes the wine, running his black tongue over his top row of teeth. "Are you keeping some sort of tally? I only perform and 'serve' at yours. Technically, it's a night off for me." He glances around again. "Can't say any here would dance with an old fool." he plays the pity party for himself with a smirk that say she doesn't believe it for a moment. "I don't see you dancing and making merry. Yet."
Eleyna has joined the Dance Floor.
Sabella says to Valerius, "Nooo...I am just very active at parties, but I have time for everyone. We can dance just after my card is signed." She gives her card to Vik, "Please sign under dance in the forest." Once he has signed, she then takes Valerius' hand and then leads him to the dance floor.
Sabella has joined the Dance Floor.
Jarek smiles warmly at Sophie "I am doing very well today Sister. I've had one of those days that reminds me why I promised myself to The Flame, and with a party to end the day to boot? Its quite a night." He glances over to Juliet and smirks at the request, and a chuckle breaks out that Natalia agrees.
Looking hard at Valerius before giving him one of her warmest smiles, she looks to Natalia and grins. "The dress is perfect, and the shade- ... is perfect!" she stumbles, flushing. She too eyes the dancers, and seeing Viktarkim's interest, nudges him towards the women. "Saffroni women have similar dances but with less clothing and more strategically places flowers," she tells him. "If you're -really- well behaved, you might see it some day," she teases him.

"I'm quite alright with not making your scale of pretty," Niccolo assures Blacktongue, reaching over to pat the other man on the shoulder, before he drinks from his glass. "You never know if someone will dance with you or not until you ask, old friend. As for me, I'm sure I'll visit the dance floor at least once before I leave," he points out, with a lift of his shoulders. "I often dance at these things, I figured this time I'd just relax for most of it."
"Thank you ever so much. And honestly, I think I would've been fine if the lands of the dunes hadn't exported their climate here as well as their architecture and culture." Juliet offers with a little laugh to Natalia. While the princess works her dress, Juliet undoes some of the complex fastenings in her hair, letting her shoulders be covered and gently draping her locks downwards so as to cover at least part of her bosom. And then, with the dress loosened, she begins to tug it off, shimmying her hips a little to help it fall as she pulls the dress down to bare her shoulders - her bosom left mostly bare but a hint of modesty preserved by her preparations. Leaving her in a vine-embroidered corset in pink silk, with a matching set of bloomers overflowing with ruffles and lace, as well as fine-meshed silken stockings covering her legs up to mid-thigh. Even baring her delicate boots as the dress pools around her feet, and she lets out a sigh. "If I'd only had a Velenosian Prince to risk the wrath of house Grayson, perhaps more of my modesty would have been preserved."
Valerius smiles back at Joscelin with a wave as he's dragged along with Sabella to the dance floor.
Valerius has joined the Dance Floor.
Seasons come and seasons go, and all things must come to an end. Such is the cycle of things, as ordained by Our Lady of Change. And even though that might be the teeniest, tiniest whine of lament to escape Sophie as the massages come to an end, she nonetheless offers private thanks to her beloved Lagoma for the blessing she just received. Slowly sitting upward, the Mercy languorous stretches, seeming a little sleepy and utterly relaxed. "Is that so?" she asks Jarek, smiling warmly. "How wonderful."
"You do not often dance at these things." Blacktongue begins, eyes slowly looking at Niccolo. "You always do. There is a distinction between the two. On a note of business, not pleasure, we should talk soon in a state that is not a night of revelry."
"I have no doubt that Lou and I will get back to our adventuring. It's not a matter of if, but when." Mason wiggles his toes a bit before stepping out of the sand, as if relaxed by the bit of catharis that was involved in simply standing in it. "No, not a terrible life, I imagine, though I have thought that whatever children we end up having will turn out much like their mother. Someone to aspire to, if only because someone needs to keep the torch of adventuring strong in the family." There's a low chuckle, moving back towards Lou. "I'm a scholar, not a priest. I'm far from things like that. And honestly, it's not a life that I find very appealing, telling people how they ought to live, as if I know better. Because truly, I don't have a clue. Just do what you can in the time that you have. That's about the best anyone can really ask for."
Natalia does not seem put out that she's almost undressed. Her chin lifted high as she looks around the room. Of course, she gives a laugh for Juliet actually stripping out of her clothing. "I think the Prince does not wish my wrath." The note is given to the stripping lady. For a moment, there is a nod and then she smiles and claps her hands. It is to draw attention. "I want to thank you on behalf of myself and Grayson for attending the party. We have only a taste of the place, our own, beloved Prince Mason calls home. I thank each of you for coming out tonight from the bottom of my heart. It would not and could not have been a party without all of you. So to Mason and to our guests." She takes a wine glass to lift it up on salute.
Joscelin raises a glass. "To Prince Mason, and you all," she intones.
Jarek cocks his head to Juliet's comment, a smirk forms "mm, unfortunately Princes of Velenosa tend to be terribly poor at modesty, alas" he comments. No comment about what Natalia said, but boy did she hit the nail on the head with that line. Jarek smiles once more at Sophie "that is so Sister Sophie" and then a toast is being called out and though he has no glass of wine he mimics the words "Prince Mason and House Grayson"
"I imagine part of being a priest is knowing how to make educated guesses." Lou is teasing Mason, just a bit. She has food and is quite alright with just eating and allowing the others to do most of the talking.
Finally standing from his seat, and raising his pewter mug on high, Augustus chimes in on the toasting, "And to His Majesty, The King." His eyebrow arches as his gaze settles on the near-immodest Natalia, though it isn't long before his attentions are drawn literally anywhere else as he downs his mug. He turns to face Mason and offers a small, polite nod, "I fear that if the... ladies are undressing, it is more than time for me to depart. I trust you both," turning slightly to nod towards Lou as well, "Have a... well. An evening to remember." His lips spread and thin in the Prince's best impression of a grimace.
Wait! Some of the women are taking their gowns off?!? Viktarkim stands stock still and watches Juliet over there wiggling out of her dress, modestly covering her bosom with her dark hair. Joscelin pokes him and at first he doesn't even notice, so taken by surprise at how this Grayson party is turning. He blinks and looks around, then notices little Joscelin still by his side, "Am I already drunk or did someone slip something into Lou's drink I'd swiped? I think I'm seeing things." Whatever the case, Viktarkim wants another drink! Maybe all of the women will strip down and dance if he drinks enough. So, suddenly more watchful of what the various women are doing, the Prodigal goes to find himself more whiskey.
Juliet makes sure to get another glass of wine, strategically placing her free arm against her bosom so her modesty is protected by more than just a few locks of hair. Raising it in the toast. "To Mason. To the Guests, to the hosts and hostesses and to the King," She concludes, before drawing a deep gulp from her drink. Then dipping down to pick up her dress and drape it over her arm, which by necessity might give some of the people a brief glance of her swaying bosom as both hair and breasts obey the laws of gravity.
Silas continues his silent lounge on the emerald couch, eavesdropping and watching the dancers. He does, however, lift his half-empty glass of red wine at Natalia's toast to Mason. "To Prince Mason. I must say I prefer this cuisine over the curry..." That was a regretabble night...
"We should? Then we shall," Niccolo tells Blacktongue, with a dip of his head. "Is it going to be a long conversation? I can sneak out of this party if it's important," he tells the jester, with a touch of curiosity. While the duke's eyes do catch some of what's going on regarding women in less dress than what shey would usually be wearing, his expression remains as schooled as ever.
Runa slides herself away from the main means of egress into and out of the room. Stepping lightly, her skirts moving in gentle waves. Her attention is arrested by the sight of Juliet. It's to her credit that she doesn't stumble too badly. If it weren't for the noise level, her throat might give an audible click. Her hands are covered, but beneath the warmer, her fingers clasp one another like it was all-out thumbwar.
A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Niccolo before departing.
The Harlequin waves a hand dismissively at the women undressing. "It isn't anything I haven't seen before, and don't see plenty." Blacktongue laughs jovially and continues, "If you weren't distracted," A pointed look to Juliet, "Then yes, it could be a long conversation worth stealing away for."
The Ahj'oni Prince merely nods at Augustus, something clearly on his mind, but it's being left unsaid. Another time, likely. "Good evening, then. Thank you for coming." he politely offers. Mason clearly isn't used to being toasted so he just blinks a little before bowing. "Lady Natalia you are too kind. I was merely the inspiration for your creativity for a gathering like this. But thank you, it's very kind of you. And to you beautiful Arvums. My people are clearly on the losing side for not knowing your people as much as I do."
Suddenly less interested in getting himself a plate of food, Viktarkim finds a bottle of whiskey and a glass. The Prodigal pours himself a measure and otherwise divides his attention to watching the women dancing or undressing for dancing. He drifts back to the Emerald cough and offers the Grayson knight some of his bottle, "Things are getting interesting." Sooo many people and several he doesn't know, including Juliet herself but also Runa whom the tattooed Prodigal studies.
Joscelin, far from modest, looks amused by Juliet's antics and the stumbling responses of Viktarkim. She giggles softly to herself, relaxing a little more, watching the people she knows and the ones she does not.
Juliet finally spots Runa as she rises up again, and her face blossoms in delight. "Lady Runa! You must come meet these delightful people, my darling." Gesturing with the arm which has a dress draped over it, rather than the one holding a wine glass, because this means she can drink more as she indicates between Joscelin and Natalia and Runa and... Well, really, she'd like to make more introductions, but people are so painfully spread out.
And Mason's wife? Is eating. There's not much by way of spicy food in Arx, generally. Perhaps being wed to an Ah'joni has given her a taste for it. Or maybe it's somewhat else. However, Lou finishes soon enough and is catching a servant by the elbow to note that leftovers be set aside for her. The spicier ones, please. She finishes the wine she's been sipping at, as well, moving to her feet and ultimately her husband's side.
Sylvie's laugh spills out, and her next words are conversational as she answers Eleyna, "Never let it be said that I take the /inferior/ choice." And with that, as the tempo of the music changes slightly, she'll reach for the princess' hand again to place it on her forearm and lead her from the dance floor back towards where they had abandoned Blacktongue and Niccolo.
Niccolo slowly nods to Blacktongue, draining his glass of wine. "Come then, let us head back to the estate," he tells the other man. "I'm not holding your hand while we walk out, though," he remarks. He pauses, seeing Sylvie and Eleyna returning. "Your companions are on their way back," he points out to Blacktongue.
Whatever else that is transpiring, Sophie is quite oblivious to it. At least Jarek registers, and she smiles at him, pleased for his good fortune. "I am very happy you, Brother. Perhaps you will tell me all about your revelation."
Mason hasn't drank a great deal, but he isn't one to drink all that much drink period. More of a social drinker, him. Though yes, he's not used to attention from so many people at once, so he's a little thankful when Lou steps to his side. There's a look at something she says, then casting an eye about. "Would surprise that that's not uncommon for Ahj'oni parties?" he muses at her, but he nods. "Then let's head back."
"Ah, beautiful ones that they are. They make it even harder." Blacktongue smiles at the pair and then clarifies, "...to leave. They make it harder to leave. We can delay business if you wish, old friend. You did promise the Lady Sylvie here a dance, but that would leave the Princess Eleyna to suffer my company."
