Monthly "Skirt and Gown Night"

This is the first of what will hopefully become a monthly “Skirt and Gown” night. What makes “Skirt and Gown” different from all other nights? On this night, the ladies of Arx descend on some poor inn or tavern and relax with their fellow females. They get to know each other, welcome newcomers to the city, and discuss the issues of the day. They drink and make merry. They share in the bonds of female camaraderie.
The first “Skirt and Gown” night will be hosted by Princess Cassima Thrax at the Ebb and Flow Inn. If it goes well, the next one will be hosted by another lady in another part of the city! Don’t you want to come check it out?
PS Yes, Caith, you can wear pants. Skirts and gowns are not required.

What a truly wonderful evening that allowed me to catch up a bit with some dear friends and hopefully has lead to making new ones. Sadly some House business drug me away sooner than I would have liked, but considering the august company of the evening, they surely could understand.

I have the distinct honor and pleasure of hosting the next event, which I promise to announce in the very near future.

My thanks to the always elegant and eloquent Princess Cassima Thrax as well! How very fortunate I am to call her one of my dearest friends and confidants.

From the look of the usually rowdy and bustling Ebb and Flow, this evening should be a low-key affair. Comparative to the usual ruckuss of sailors and pirates drinking, burping, laughing, and fighting each other. Though, perhaps if we're lucky, all those things might happen anyway!
No, tonight, the ladies of Arx gather to learn more about one another, to mingle and make new connections. Or, perhaps they gather to drink, eat, and make merry doing something positively silly. Really it's anyone's guess. Still, the doors are open, and all may enter at their leisure.
The hostess for tonight's affair is currently milling about the room. You might not recognize her, because Cassima Thrax is wearing /red/. That's right. There's color in her wardrobe. This might be the only piece of it, but you're all witness to it. Don't worry: it's still high collared and long sleeved. As people meander in, she'll greet them with a smile and a nod, apparently making no distinction in rank this particular evening. "Please, help yourself to a drink or something to eat, grab a table, and otherwise make yourselves at home."

Serena, a charming lady-in-waiting arrives, following Vanora.

Splat, a tiny calico kitten arrives, following Wylla.

Serena, a charming lady-in-waiting arrives, following Vanora.

Wearing a gown that happens to also be adorned with a skirt, it would seem that Avaline meets all the requirements for the evening. There is also a sword on her hip, but that seems as much a part of her as the dress itself, which she wears confidently, a tilt of her head as she takes in the rest of the women gathered about. Avaline gives a wiggle of her fingers towards the hostess. "I'm afraid that I don't know anybody here," she laments, smiling as she takes the offered drink. "Let us try to change that by the end of the night."

4 Thrax Guards, Teonia Redreef, Aryka Wyrmfang arrive, following Sorrel.

Gwenna enters the establishment wearing her usual cheerful white and green hues, the Redrain tucking in a few stray locks of hair from the breeze that untidied them on the way over. A glance passes over Cassima and then snaps back rather perceptively. A blink before a bright smile tugs up the corners of her mouth. "My dearest friend, what a glorious shade on you! And those haircombs. I am in love, truly," is remarked though the princess doesn't attempt to deter Cassima from her milling, of course.

If Softest Lumen is shocked by the choice of venue, it certainly doesn't show in her outward expression. Gentle, subdued smiles come easily to the Bisland-born woman and she has one ready for anybody who happens to make eye-contact. She's probably a little overly polite to the servers here when she procures a way-too-big tankard of something amber-colored. When in uh... the Compact's equivilant of Rome! "Neither do I," Lumen admits melodiously to Avaline with a smile, "Shall we sit together?"

Just about on time, Lady Vanora Pravus seems to have adopted for gown this time, a flowing silk creation of opalescent aeterna set off by umbra here and there. Reddish-gold hair is pinned up away from her face, and jewels sparkle as the lady moves. She seeks out Cassima with pale green eyes, hoping to locate and greet the hostess through the crowd before settling in to sit and talk.

Lethe steps inside wearing a green gown. She looks around with a curious expression.

Gunther, a Rottweiler, Micana, Golden, an Oakhaven bloodhound arrive, following Lucita.

Elgana enters with her small retinue following behind her, those two Redrain guards with their ribbon adorned armor following the princess as one of the holds the leash for her puppy, who is just excited to be here as he is to be anywhere. She grins as she takes a quick glance around the room and spots a few faces she knows, giving a little wave to Cassima and a little blown kiss to Gwenna as she looks first and foremost a place to park her bottom for the time being. Her guards take the puppy out of the way at the least, finding a table that will keep their charge in sight, so they can at least try to relax for however long she decides she will be here.

Sorrel sashays into ladies' night with an easy smile on her face, wearing a slender gown that stretches just so to show off the roundness of her belly. At least from the front. From the back, she's just as athletic as ever. She does look lovely in her coral silks, twirling a pirouette to make her skirts stand out a bit.

Sabella is chattering to Tabitha as they follow the steady stream of silks and satins into the inn, "I thought it was just gorgeous! Painting on glass! You're so clever and talented!" she's saying to the other woman with a bright smile. "You shall have to tell me who you have not yet met and I will introduce you. Princess Cassima!" She calls out cheerfully, waving to the woman in red. Vanora gets a smile, though it is a little more hesitant. Lumen and Elgana also get waves. "I feel like this ought to be some kind of clandestine meeting where we all have to have a password or share our deepest, darkest secrets to--is that chocolate?!"

Wylla is wearing silk robes. Those count, right? They're certainly pretty, even if there is a stray fleck of paint here and there on today's version. Her flame-red hair is pinned up with opal-adorned hairpins, and a shy little smile is on her face as the short Archlector heads in, looking around, clearly quite uncertain where to sit, absent any direct invitation. Splat is not with her for once, but she does bear a few stray calico cat hairs, as well.

Cassima checked composure at difficulty 10, rolling 7 higher.

"Hopefully we can change that, My Lady," Cassima says with a grin to Aveline. "It is, after alll, the purpose of the evening. Welcome," she says, turning her attention to Lumen and bowing her head. "Please, try some of the rums, or their specialty, Prince Galen's shark fin soup. There's also bread and cheese and chocolate on all the tables." Fondue. Every table has fondue for the sharing.
The Thraxian's eyes track to Gwenna, and her smile is warm and loving. "Oh, thank you, they were a gift from a friend," Cassima confides. SHe might say more, but then she hears Sabella calling out, and she turns to look at the Grayson, grinning madly. "Hello, my dear. Oh, Elgana, hello." She kisses the other Redrain on the cheek. Her eyes then settle upon Vanora, and the smile for her is broad. She holds out a hand to take the other woman's. "My dear Lady Pravus. Welcome. I am so terribly glad you could come."

Lucita peeks into the area, noting those present and giving a curtsy as she turns to signal to Micana to keep the guard dogs waiting at the entry, not intruding into the room or gathering. She pauses a moment to pick up the flow of conversation. One hand rises to rest briefly on the mid-pregnancy mound of belly then drops aside.

Avaline gives a warm smile towards Lumen at the offer and she nods delightfully over her wine glass. "Yes, that sounds perfect," she grins, moving to take a seat at a nearby table, giving a welcoming beckon towards her. "I'm Princess Avaline Velenosa," she says by way of introduction. "I've been here for months, but I'm afraid I still know so little about the city. Who might you be?" she wonders, though her eyes catch Lucita and she waves delightedly towards her cousin. "Ah, and there's a familiar face," she grins. "How are you tonight, Lucita?"

If guards are supposed to be watching over Gwenna, it seems the princess ditched them. She returns her cousin Elgana's blown kiss with one of her own and, likewise, gives a glance about to see if she might recognize anyone else as well as find herself a comfortable seat. But ah! There's a familiar face! Besides Cassima and Elgana, that is. "Archlector Wylla," is offered cheerfully with a wave of her fingers. To those nearby, she adds, "Princess Gwenna Redrain," by way of similarly kind greeting and introduction.

"Princess Sabella! It is always so lovely to see you dear," Elgana calls and gives a wave back to the princess before her attention turns to Cassima and that cheek kiss gets returned, giving the princess a squeeze on her arm. "And you too, dear. Thank you so much for doing this. We ladies definitely need nights like away from the boys," she teases with a wink before she turns to look at the other faces mixed and mingled amongst the crowd. "What a gathering," she muses to herself.

Gwenna has joined the Captains Table.

Avaline has joined the Barnacle Table.

"My dear Highness, I am just as glad that I could. I've been hoping to see you, truly, and though my original desire was for a less public setting visiting here will be a very different kind of lovely, and so important as well. It looks already to be a success." Vanora Pravus comments on the crowd and on Princess Cassima's outlining the evening's menu. Hands are clasped and the pale redhead leans in for a kiss of greeting Lycene style, the airy sort of thing that leans close towards the face but never has lips anywhere near to skin. "I must not steal more than my fair share of your attention and shall step aside." With that she turns, scanning the room with pale green eyes for a table that looks to hold interesting company.

Tabitha is beaming at Sabella's words as the two women enter the inn, looking a little shy but clearly pleased by the compliment. "Oh, thank you so much," the little Mercier woman replies.

Dressed in a a simple but perfectly cut dress of creamy champagne silk and pinked rose embroidery, Tabitha's attire is fresh and elegant. Looking around the room with slowly blinking eyes, she then looks back to Sabella, "Oh, so many people I don't know here. I'm not sure where to start." Then! With a widening of eyes! "Chocolate?"

Vanora has joined the Captains Table.

Lethe has joined the Minnow Booth.

Elgana has joined the Bar.

Wylla looks up towards Gwenna, her smile broadening a little. She moves that way, picking up her robes slightly with a little flick of her fingers. "Princess Gwenna," she enthuses, before she stops short at Gwenna's table, hesitating. "Um." And that's as far as she gets about asking to sit down at the table. Her gaze towards Vanora is unfamiliar, but followed by a warm smile and a nod of her head.

Lethe watches some of the other women once she finds a quiet place to sit.

Nose crinkling up cutely, Lumen returns Sabella's wave, and Cassima's bow with a little dip of her own head in the Princess's direction. "Well, belated welcome," she offers to Avaline, shifting to take a seat by leaning in to her hip, "Mistress Lumen, of Whisper House. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Sabella has joined the Captains Table.

Lucita's glance lingers a moment on Avaline then Lethe and Sorrel, recognizing those first amid those gathered. Her expression lightens on seeing those present. To the ones she does not know quite so well she says simply "Baroness Lucita Saik. How nice to see all of you, it looks like a lovely gathering tonight."

Tabitha has joined the Captains Table.

Sorrel picks a table, seemingly at random, which has her ending up at the Barnacle Table. She pauses to wave at Cassima with a little wink, and then she smiles at the two already present. "Hello there! Mind if I join you? I'm Princess Sorrel Thrax, and I'm mingling," she says cheerfully.

Sorrel has joined the Barnacle Table.

Lucita has joined the Barnacle Table.

"Oh, the whisper house? I've heard some excellent things," Avaline smiles, gently crossing her legs as she gets herself comfortable. "Perhaps I'll see you there soon, I've been meaning to take a look," she says, she gives a warm smile to Lucita, reaching out as she approaches to offer a warm embrace, and Sorrel earns herself a delighted grin. "Ah, a pleasure Princess Sorrel. Princess Avaline Velenosa," she greets. "Please, make yourself at home! That's what this is all about, yes?"

Gwenna's smile remains wide and as she motions to a chair beside her. "It is so lovely to see you! I believe I have missed an event or two that you've run since the painting one, for which I offer my apologizes. Please, join us? You are well, I hope?" As others also take seats at the Captains Table, the kind grin remains. "Good evening ladies. Princess Gwenna Redrain. Some of you look familiar, though it's not been a year yet since I've been in Arx. I apologize as I don't think we've been introduced. Isn't this idea of Princess Cassima's wonderful? I wonder who might host next."

"Ah, well perhaps we can go out tomorrow for a walk," Cassima says to Vanora. "I would come to visit you, but until we get this damnable duel scheduled, I'd better not," she chuckles agreeably. "Please have a seat." She turn then to the group, hands clasped before her, as they all begin to settle in.
"Thank you all for coming," Princess Cassima says. "So many faces I don't know, but then tonight is an opportunity to get to know each other. So I thought we might begin the evening with a question. I am Thraxian, as you all know, and Thraxian men and women often fit into different social niches. There is a distinction between the two beyond physical anatomy. But this is not the case in many of your homes. So I would ask everyone to consider: physical anatomy aside, in a society such as ours, is there truly a difference between men and women? Is there a reason women should congregate together, or for men to behave differently when they're just with other men? Is there any difference in the sexes, and if not, are such nights as this one even necessary?"
She smiles then. "It might be easier to discuss at your tables, but I thought I would posit a little mental riddle to open up some discussion. Oh, hello Sorrel dear." Cassima move in that direction to give her cousin-in-law a kiss on the cheek.

Wylla has joined the Captains Table.

Wylla nods readily at Gwenna. "There's a Festival of Colors soon!" she chirps towards her as she seats herself. "We'll be throwing eggs with, uh, colored powder at each other. It was Princess Marian's idea, but I thought it was a terrific idea!" She's excited about it too. "On the beaches, in less than a week." She looks over towards Cassima, just staring, offering an uncertain smile at her question. No opinions from the representative of Jayus, it seems! At least none that are readily forthcoming.

Elgana has left the Bar.

Elgana has joined the Captains Table.

Lethe has left the Minnow Booth.

Lethe has joined the Barnacle Table.

"Hello, Cassima, darling," Sorrel replies, returning the woman's kiss fondly. "You know, there are physical differences, even though we don't usually differentiate. Let me tell you, being pregnant has certainly put a damper in my sparring. No one wants to spar a pregnant lady for fear that something might happen to the baby. So I'm definitely experiencing different treatment now, treatment that Prince Galen is not, just because I'm the female in our partnership." She turns her attention more fully to her table. "Baroness Lucita! And it's a pleasure to meet you, Princess Avaline, and you, Mistress Lumen. I'm so glad so many people came out tonight."

Tabitha gives a graceful little curtsy ankle-dip thing to all the occupants of the captain's table, smiling shyly. The smile gets a bit brighter when Sabella compliments her, then she directs the light of it around the gathering. "So good to meet you all," she says, sitting down when Sabella takes her own seat. If a Princess is doing it, it must be okay!

Metzger, a great grey shrike arrives, following Dominique.

"Well," Avaline looks over at Cassima and gives a nod. "Sure, there are physical differences and also," she nods to Sorrel. "How we're treated while we're pregnant, but I think aside from those things, there are far less differences than most assume. Physical strength aside, I've been just as capable a soldier and commander on the field as any man I've come across," she points out. She turns her attention back to the women at the table with her, lowering her voice for those gathered.

Skirt and gown. It's not exactly the thing that Dominique wears often, as she's come in dressed in pants and a blouse with a lily theme. Hopefully that won't get her kicked out. Still, when she arrives, she glances about looking around for any familiar faces while taking in a long and deep breath, pursing her lips the entire time as she hrmms.

Gwenna taps at the center of her lips a moment. "I think there are differences, beyond anatomy, though just subtle ones. Both can be rowdy, drink well, fight, think, ponder the great concerns of the day. Perhaps, though, the subtle difference is just understanding how it feels to be a woman or man. Surely there must be differences that while not dividing us, per se, give us something only shared with each other?" Her head bobs along with what others are offering to the topic, seeming in agreement.

Lucita gives Sorrel a little glance. "I'm already getting the jokes like 'take a break, don't labor so hard, you'll be lagoring harder soon enough' with pointed glances at the belly." She then says. "There is a difference in a way. I find the men more protective of me now, but also relying on me about as much as they did my husband. They consult me, advise me and follow my directions so it is hard to say if there is a difference other than that the physical form imposes, that and maybe recognizing grief being handled a little differently.

When there seems to be a break enough in answers for another to pipe up, Vanora Pravus does so. "I think you've asked a question that could likely be broken down and sustain us for weeks. I can speak to some basics however, having grown up among the Lycene and then spent time among the Islanders, ostensibly with a co-rulership of my own. As a younger woman I grew up surrounded by powerful rulers who were men as well as women, both in my own lifetime and in the most distant stories of our ancient past. It is as shocking as you'd imagine, to go from one to the other. Likely ladies in other parts of the compact are not able to fully appreciate what they are given."

Lethe stands from her table and joins another. "Other than the obvious differences I don't know how many there are, but it is stil nice to spend time with other women."

"Men are the worst!" Sabella pipes up with a laugh, "They are supremely unsubtle and should they get an ounce of power they wield it wildly like a sword. They should congregate together so that we have a break from their posturing and marriage proposals!"

"Isn't it sad that the best way to avoid marriage proposals is to accept one?" Sorrel asks with a laugh, calling over to Sabella with a broad grin on her lips.

Cassima has joined the Barnacle Table.

Spying her cousin in the corner of her eye, Dominique meanders on over towards Sorrel, placing her hands on her shoulders and offering a gentle squeeze. "I was hoping to see you here." she beams, letting out a nervous chuckle as she goes into awkward turtle mode, curtsying at the various women at the table. "Good evening to you all."

Wylla has left the Captains Table.

Splat, a tiny calico kitten have been dismissed.

A snort of laughter escapes Gwenna's lips at Sabella's remarks. "Indeed, your highness," she says and then nods as Lethe's words. "I agree with that. It's simply nice to be around other women, especially from such varied backgrounds as we have. Surely there is no shortage of similarities either."

Cassima laughs suddenly and quite loud at Sabella's suggestion that men are terrible. "I can't help but agree with what it sounds like most of you say. There is something intangible about being with one's own sex versus being with another. And perhaps it's not the difference between men and women, but the similarities of being alike rather than dissimilar. And of course, the proposals." She blushes slightly at her own brazenness, but continues on. "I can't help but wonder if most of us are in some sort of ledger held fast by the Duke Ashford for just such a purpose."

Lumen nearly chokes at the mention of Harlan's ledger, bringing up a hooked finger to press against her lips. She very soon after regains her composure.

There is high laughter from the table Elgana is at at the mention of Duke Ashford. "Do not get me started about that one," she offers to Cassima then as she starts to at least come down from her laughing. "A flower from every garden." Then the princess is shaking her head.

Sabella grins over at Sorrel, "Should I ever accept one I will let you know if I also find that to be true! I must thank you, Princess Cassima, for arranging this. I feel deeply that we should all get to know each other and become fast friends and that the Compact will be better for it." When Duke Harlan is mentioned she laughs loudly, "Both his Voice and Sir Jordan have twice tried to arrange things with me for him! And his Voice proposed once for himself!"

Her ears perk for a few moments, catching something. Dominique quirks a brow as she looks towards Sabella, "Isn't Duke Harlan's voice his sister?" she asks, seeming now rather confused.

Cassima lifts a glass of rum around the room. "I was a rose among the rocks, I think was his description of me the only time we really met. I daresay I am not particularly useful, then. But really, Sabella, you must keep count. You might win some sort of record at that rate!"

"Aaaaah." There is the sound of realization from Gwenna's lips. "Sir Jordan mentioned he had someone he would like me to meet, who I assume must be the Duke. When I pressed, however, he said a lonely Lycene lord, so now I am utterly baffled. Amused, but baffled. This, perhaps, is precisely why we should have these sort of gatherings, I think." She makes a little shifting motion with her hands. "Clear the stables, as they sometimes say."

Tabitha remains among the group in comfortable silence for a while, happy to just listen and be among the presence of other women. She seems rather at ease with her own sex, it would seem, or perhaps she's just in an especially good mood this evening. In any case, really relaxed!

"They'll accuse us of conspiring against them!" Sorrel announces with a measure of mirth. "And they'll be right!"

Tabitha gives Sabella a little smile, "It was my pleasure to donate, really." Then turning to the group, she gives a little nod and says, "Sometimes it's fun to try something different to get the creativity flowing again. I think there's a saying..'a change is as good as a rest'? I think there is, anyway."

Wylla has joined the Captains Table.

"I try not to keep count. In fact I studiously try to avoid proposals, which might be why they seek me out," Sabella says to Cassima with a dramatic grimace. "It doesn't help that often men confusing being friendly with a woman begging them to get naked. We are speaking plainly here, right? If not I meant...inviting them for hot tea."

"Well, depending on the man, I don't really mind the request," Avaline pipes up from her table, sipping wine with a little grin.

Wylla's eyes have grown a bit wide at something said at her table -- out of interest, one hopes, and she adds something at what, for her, is some length. A couple of sentences, at least! "I hope... I hope I'm not in a ledger," she offers to the room at large. "I wouldn't be a good candidate for obvious reasons." She turns a bit red at the admission. "I was almost married once, though." And then there's an awkard pause, that information seeming to drift off into the space of the tavern.

Lumen arches her brow, commenting wryly from nearby Avaline, "It's rarely ever the one you want it to be."

Sorrel laughs suddenly, and then she puts on her most seductive face, lashes fluttering flirtatiously. "Hey, darling. Would you like to join me for ...hot tea?" she inquires. But she can't hold the charade long and immediately bursts into giggles.

Cassima laughs again, looking to Lumen. "Oh, and who would you want it to be, my dear?"

Blink. Blink. Dominique doesn't seem to have much to add if anything. It's not like she's rebuffing marriage proposals or anything like that. Instead, she purses her lips and meanders off tot he side, simply listening for now as she runs her fingers through the dark locks for her head. "And to think, Desiree says she doesn't work hard when all she does is attend events like this. It's exhausting." she mutters to herself.

Lumen checked composure at difficulty 15, rolling 1 higher.

"I don't think I'm in the ledger, Archlector, so we are companions in that," Gwenna remarks with mirth. "Perhaps Sir Jordan thought me not fit? I'm all the more amused, I admit! And have yet to be proposed to. Which I am beginning to believe may be a blessing." Another bit of laughter follows, heartier at Sorrel's teasing.

"Ooh are we telling confessions now?" Elgana pipes up with another laugh as she glances about for the person who claimed they wouldn't mind it. She laughs again. To Gwenna she says with a sigh as she shakes her head. "It isn't a ledger most would want to find themselves. It's rather embarassing that he's my cousin! I don't know who is more eager the Duke or his knight."

Avaline giggles along with Sorren and gives a knowing nod to Lumen. "Oh, I suppose you're right. It's never the handsome ones or the pretty girls. It's always the one that you have to fake a stomach cramp to get away from."

Something Elgana says piques Cassima's curiosity. "I've heard a great deal of this Sir Jordan, but I hardly know him. Only, it seems, that one night at the Redrain Tea, where Prince Gareth was so eager to make an enemy of him, if I recall." She smirks. "Is this Knight truly as forward as the Duke?"

Tabitha places her hands over her heart at the mention of the creative urge and says, "Oh, inspiration can be so elusive sometimes. I have so many ideas that I never manage to follow up. It's such a shame." To Vanora, she says, "A little bit of everything, as far as painting is concerned. I enjoy painting gardens and portraits, though I'm never truly confident about the latter." A shy smile is given, then she says, "Right now, I'm mainly creating as and when the mood hits me, but I should be offering commissions again at some point soon."

Lumen pulls her head back on her neck in mild surprise, suppressing her smile as best she can while offering Cassima an innocent flutter of eyelashes. "I would never presume." The Whisper brings her drink to hover in front of her mouth before the smile grows toothy. And to Avaline: "I usually make up some excuse about... 'soon being missed' or some such thing. Keep it vague."

Lucita says, "If expecting Baroness widows are in such a ledger..." She continues with wry humor. "... we are so far down the page we are written on the page edges, out of view."

"Oh dear lady, if you had told you only what the knight whispered in my ear when I made my approach to join you and Gwenna," Elgana starts as her gaze turns to Cassima then. "His knight has been quite bold with his words. He must forget that while I am a sweet lady, I am still a Redrain. I may not be a warrior as my sister, but I can still cut a man in a thousand ways."

Tabitha checked perception + empathy at difficulty 15, rolling 41 higher.

Nearly having allowed one bit of giggling to expire, Gwenna's humor is renewed and they start again, both Elgana and Avaline drawing them out it seems. "I think the knight, dear cousin," is said first to Elgana, her gaze shifting to Avaline shortly after. "Stomach cramp! I will have to try that. The headache one seems tired." A messenger enters and lingers at the door, making some hey-hey-you eyes at Gwenna. The princess wrinkles her lips before dipping her head politely to her table guests. "Forgive me, please," is offered and then to those around as she stands. "Shouldn't be too long."

Gwenna has left the Captains Table.

Lethe looks around. "I feel like I'm learning so much. I didn't even know about these ledgers."

Cassima blinks at Elgana. "Well now you HAVE to tell us, my dear. You can't just teases us like that!"

Sabella nods to Elgana and points her way, "I find that Sir Jordan getting into challenge after challenge is not surprising. It's hard for me to truly take offense to things, but after some careless words and accusations by him, Lord Pharamond was quickly apologizing. I think he is...he does not think before he speaks. And since it is me saying that, you should all realize how terrible it might be! But I know Duke Harlan is making him take etiquette lessons because of it, so there is hope that he may yet tone it down and we can go a week without a duel."

"What exactly is this ledger all about?" Avaline wonders, she sips more wine after the giggles seem to have subsided for the moment, smirking a moment to Lumen. "I think it's a bit more fun when they know you're just trying to get away, but they can't call you on it," Avaline says, giving a wink to Gwenna as she departs. "Please, use it all you want, I hope it serves you well!" she chuckles.

Noticing Dominique from the corner of her eye, Tabitha turns to glance at the woman's lovely clothing. Sensing that the woman is a touch nervous, muttering to herself as she is, she gives a little wave of her hand and sweetly says, "I love your clothes. They're so pretty."

Tabitha also turns back to Wylla and smiles, "Oh, that sounds lovely. I'd really like that, thank you."

"It's a running joke about Duke Harlan. Who once compared all the women in the city to flowers and implied that he kept notes about which ones might make the best potential mates," Sorrel explains regarding the ledgers with a merry laugh. "Now, I don't mind being compared to a flower -- I'm named for a flowering spice. But it really didn't go over well, and to this day, Duke Harland remains unwed."

Raising her brows once more, she glances towards Tabitha with a soft chuckle and a sheepish smile "Thank you." she offers with a curtsy as she heads on over. "I'm afraid I'm not the most social, that would be the purview of my sister. I'm Dominique Wyrmguard though, pleased to make your acquaintance."

Elgana flushes. "He accused me pretty much of toying with men and getting them to do whatever I want. If that's the case, then there are certain men I need to speak with because they've yet to do half the things I've told them to do! I've hardly spoken to the knight for him to have formed such a low opinion of me. Granted, flirtation is harmless fun and I do not deny being one to flirt when it is welcome... but I hardly like to toy with the affections of others." Sabella gets a look and a nod. "I have heard of the lessons and can only pray he learns to think before pointing such words my way." She smiles. "I can definitely handle myself, but it is other ladies I worry about who may not be so comfortable navigating such attentions and words."

Lucita says to Avaline. "Some of the more marriageable Princes and noblemen keep lists of eligible women and who is most likely to be the best match for them, politically and personally. Mentioning no names, but was once told I was far far down on the list, I was Lycene, and then asked to not invite them to any 'meet the single lady' matchmaking events. I laughed and laughed. We wound up friends. Oddly, I never did figure out if it was his delightful droll humor ir if he was serious.

Cassima turns her head toward Lumen with her mouth hanging open in slight shock. Then she looks back to Elgana, equally shocked. A flush of anger comes to her cheeks. "That rotten bastard!" The prim and proper Thraxian exclaims loudly. "How has he not been run out of the city?!"

Sorrel laughs mightily at her cousin-by-marriage's reaction. "Hey, Cassima, I hear Duke Harlan is single," she teases, evergreen eyes twinkling merrily.

6 Thrax Guards, Stumphrey, a toast-colored corgi with big ears and a floofy butt, Humphrey, a humorless brute with a ribbon in his hair arrive, following Caith.

Tabitha smiles in a friendly manner at Dominique and says, "Tabitha Mercier! So good to meet you." Then she waves a kindly dismissive hand at Dominique's words. "Oh, I'm usually far more shy than this, but I have such lovely company and that helps a lot." Giving Dominique a little nod, she asks, "Would you like to join me?"

Nosily, Karadoc peers into the Ebb and Flow from the doorway, and he moves aside from anyone entering or exiting with a shallow bow. He trespasses no farther, but takes in the scene with equal parts amusement (and terror.)

Another round of rums is set on the table, complete with shot glasses. Wine glasses and pitchers are made available too. Sorrel's teasing earns a little Sassima Glare(tm) from Cassima. "Yes, well," she sniffs. "I believe it has already been determined that I am entirely not elgiable for such a match, thorny rose that I am. I think I'm better off being some fashion of spinster auntie-cousin to your sweet babe. Though at my age, I might be considered a spinster already."

"Well some men take offense to flirtation either not being directed at them, or having no intention of leading into anything. If I slept with everybody I flirted with, there wouldn't be enough hours in the day," she chuckles, looking around and gives Elgana a sympathetic look. "Well, the opinions of people like that mean so very little to me anyway, pay him no mind." she says, biting her lip curiously. She nods to Lucita and lifts her eyebrow. "Are Lycene not suitable? That's certainly news to me! But I hardly left the south until I was much older anyway."

"As I said, if it were one less comfortable than I, then perhaps things would go differently. I did not wish to cause a stir at the party so I kept it to myself. And then when Prince Gareth seemed to get upset, I figured it was best to take a bit of a walk. I think we both needed it to be honest." Elgana sighs then. "I do not wish to cause any issue for the Duke, but I hope they both take a lesson on how to treat ladies of any birth and rank."

Lumen holds up a palm to Cassima, half-smiling half... really, really concerned that this is going to end with torches and pitchforks. "It's fine. Being underestimated often gives one the upper hand." She winces.

Wylla nods readily at Tabitha's reply, geturing for the chair. She's a bit more quiet now, settled in her chair, content to listen to the conversation rather than opt in. She does, however, reach out for some of the fondue, taking a careful bite. For all her shyness, she's not clumsy -- the cheese-dipped bread makes it from the pot to her mouth without a mishap.

"Sure, why not?" It's not like she has anything to lose. "I'm just trying to follow along, though I think they're talking about Sir Jordan, the one who won the duel the other day, and Sir Harlan. To have a ledger on women, well, I guess it's somewhat practical and weird." a beat. "I'd say more weird than practical." she continues with a bit of a nosewrinkle before taking a proferred seat.

"He accused me of less personal, but no less insulting things," Sabella confirms for Elgana. "Perhaps I should go talk to Duke Harlan about it. Honestly, I am worried about all the aggression we've seen lately."

1 Grayson Guardsmen, Deliverance, an albino falcon, Stormy, a silvery gray hunting hound, Rascal, a hyper terrier, Rosalie, a lady in waiting arrive, following Reese.

TAADAA! Look Cassima! Caith is here and she isn't even wearing pants! The second eldest of the sisters Thrax floats in, adorned in her floatiest, floofiest, twirliest, girliest frock and just to make it extra special? She takes two steps in, spins about so all her skirts go WHEEE and then tip-toes on dancers feet over toward her sibling. "What are we talking about?" she trills lightly and then hears a familiar name -- Harlan. Oh dear. Let the nose wrinkling commence.

"I am as well," Elgana comments to Sabella. "I was advised to speak with Duke Harlan as he is my cousin, but I've yet to find the time to do so. Perhaps we can can speak with him together, highness? The two of us could be quite the force." She grins and winks at the princess. Avaline gets a smile at her words of encouragement. "Oh definitely. I try not to take too much to heart, but that caught me off guard to be considered so low like that." She sighs again but smiles and shakes it off.

"No lady of any birth or rank should ever be treated thusly. I do have a theory that the behavior of a lady is more dependent on how she is treated than how she herself acts. It's easy to be ladylike when faced with a gentleman. Oh, Caith," Cassima rises, leaning in to give her sister a kiss. "Come dear, there's chocolate and cheese on every table. Oh, excuse me," she smiles apologetically to the loitering Karadoc. "The Ebb is closed this evening for an event. I'm so sorry."

Lucita catches a glimpse of movement over near the entry, eyes widen and then her amber gaze sweeps over the room. "Doc! You sweet cousin, coming to check on me and make sure alright. Not many men brave enough to do that." She hesitates a moment and then says, giving him deniability and excuses should he wish. "That is why you came, yes?"

Dominique has joined the Captains Table.

Lumen produces an index finger, chiming helpfully, "That seems like the reason he's come."

Reese arrives at the party while wearing her pink. She glances over the inn, getting a feeling for things here. Reese then makes her way toward a table, taking a seat.

Reese has joined the Captains Table.

Assuming she hasn't missed anyone who might have addressed her (someone please correct her if she has) then Tabitha gives a lovely little smile between Wylla and Dominique. Leaning in to the latter, she screws up her face in a humorously bewildered way, "I'm a little lost myself, but it's all very interesting, don't you think?"

Glancing over at Karadoc and lifting a smirk towards Lucita. "Not many men brave enough to invade a space with so many women, either," Avaline muses. Elgana gets a nod and she considers them. "I'm much the same way, and I'm glad you didn't let it get to you. I don't even know any of these names, I really do need to get better acquainted around the city," she wobbles in place for a moment, having switched to shots on offer from Cassima. "So, instead of talking about terrible men, what about the good ones?" Avaline wonders. "Anybody that I might enjoy the company of?"

"Merely checking upon the well-being of my liege-lady, Baroness-Regent Lucita." Karadoc offers another little bow, offering a sincere half-smile. "Which I have done because I can see her from here. "Pardon my boldness. However, with that, I shall take my leave. Enjoy your evening." Politely, he does dip out from the doorway and back out into the street.

"Honestly I've found Prince Barric to be charming and very much the gentleman," Elgana offers Avaline. "And of course there is my favorite prince, but I dare not give his name out lest all of you start clamboring for his attentions. He's very busy and I so very seldom get to see him, so I like what bit of his time I do get to stay mine." She seems to be clearly teasing.

"I believe I know the knight in question. I don't think he's as malicious as they're making him seem to be though." Dominique offers with a shrug of her shoulders, picking up some chocolate to take little nibbles. "But it is interesting. I have to admit, I don't tend to go to events very often, I'd rather be training or be lost in the mountains of paperwork that I have to deal with, but it's good to broaden one's horizons."

"I have a single brother-in-law, Prince Valerius," Sorrel volunteers brightly. "He's really a darling, and I'd recommend him to any fine lady looking to make a good match."

Wylla looks back at the sound of a very unsuitable voice from that fellow who jut spoke, but alas too late. She flushes a little, looking towards Lucita at the other table. "I thought this was supposed to be women-only," she calls over to the Baroness. "Did you tell him to come here?"

"I only choose terrible matches," Sabella says apologetically, though she's smiling. "I'm pretty sure that while Jayus favors me, Limerance does not."

"I don't think he's a villain. He's bold and on a string of victories," Lumen supposes aloud of the knight in question, "Which can be a fine line to walk for someone unaccustomed to it. He may not yet know that what Arx giveth, Arx taketh away."

"Even after all that business with the Valardin Prince?" Cassima asks Elgana, curiously. "I've only met the man in passing. Before he left, though, he spoke quietly to me, saying that he wished to learn how I managed to be so patient." She turns and looks to Caith with a teasing, raised brow. "Did you do something to the poor man, Caith my love?"
She then looks back to Elgana. "Shall we be expecting an announcement any time soon featuring this favored Prince?"

"Prince Barric? I believe I've met him once, the name sounds familiar at any rate. I'll keep that in mind, though your prince," Avaline gives a little glance to Elgana. "He wouldn't happen to be my husband would he?" she asks with a teasing smirk. "If he's been in town and hasn't told me..." giggling a moment and glancing to Sorrel. "Well, not looking for an elligable bachelor for the moment, just some nice company."

Lucita says, "Awww, he left, I was going to suggest he loosen his shirt and let it hang down like a skirt and introduce him as one of the 'good' men. He's the one who helped get Lady Eirene out of a bit of her grief by giving her a beautiful necklace, first little smile seen from her since she was widowed. And as you saw, he watches out for me, and handles all those pages and pages and pages of finiancial figures that give me a headache. He's a good sport too when confronted with unexpected demands like partnering someone in a contest about which he knows nothing, but tries anyhow."

Oh man, is that what this party is about? A gab sess' about boys? Caith has a rather severe allergy to matrimony so she kind of just .. backs away from the discussion in general. Plus! There is no seat at her sister's table. Darn it all! So the blonde flits over to the bar and hops up onto a stool, flagging someone over until she ends up with a glass of wine in hand. Ahh booze. What good friends we are!

Sipping at her drink, she does offer up an option for the ladies who are in the market. "My cousin, Tomwell Leary, is available and he is darling. Just the sweetest! He will never treat you wrong and you will always have the best time at parties. A fine dancer and a wonderful musician!" She lifts her glass to her darling 'Tomkins' and then blinks at Cassima. "Who what now? I wasn't paying attention. Who did I do something to? I surely did not. I am very well-behaved and well-mannered." She nods her head, agreeing with .. herself and drinks some more of her wine.

Tabitha smiles back at Reese, dipping her head in a respectful nod. She doesn't address the young woman, however, since there are more important people who should get the first chance of speaking to a princess. That said, she turns to Dominique with a nod. "You're so right."

A bit of chocolate is also picked up and nibbled. Karadoc's presence in overlooked. No stinky boys allowed in this treehouse. To Dominique, Tabitha says, "I'm so sorry, did I ask if you know anyone here?"

Lucita shakes her head to Wylla, "No, he did that on his own. He worrie about me and if has not heard me about the tower in a while will make sure I do not need anything or need escort.

"I am not saying the knight is a villian," Elgana sighs with a light roll of her eyes. "He simply needs to cool his ardor and perhaps learn how to speak with a softer tongue." Cassima gets a smile. "Prince Barric is quite the gentleman, truly. I've only met him a handful of times but found him very patient and kind. I do not understand all of this stir from the men of the city, but perhaps it is jealousy at having such a man as a rival? If you tarnish him too much, who would look? No. I stand firm that Prince Barric is a noble prince and a definite credit to his House." She does blush at the last part of what Cassima says. "Ah, fear not my dear heart. He is a high favorite of mine, I do not believe such a thing is to be." She does smile at least through her blush. "He is fine company and of that I adore."

Caith has joined the Bar.

"I'm familiar with Princess Reese, my cousin Princess Sorrel, and Princess Sabella." Yep, she really doesn't get out that much. Dominique replies as she looks back to Tabitha, "And now you!" she beams before bowing her head as Reese arrives. "Is Prince Luca alright? He looks like he got a nasty hit, and the whiskey, did you all drink it yet?"

"I don't think I knew that Tomwell Leary was your cousin," Sabella comments to Caith. "I saw him win the playwrights tournament, he was wonderful!"

Cassima has left the Barnacle Table.

Cassima has joined the Captains Table.

Reese turns her attention to Dominique, giving her a thoughtful look. "He is alright. This is no the first time that I have nursed him through an injury and it won't be the last time either. I am thankful that Lady Eirene was there. His injury is there, but healing. He is drinking more than he probably should through it and I am being more laid back that I normally am about his drinking through it. He is at home napping right now. We still have some of the scotch you sent, thank you for that."

Vanora has left the Captains Table.

Serena, a charming lady-in-waiting have been dismissed.

Wylla ahs at Lucita, seeming content with the explanation. She continues working on that fondue, nibbling away, seeming content to be a polite, interested audience, hairpins glittering as she turns this way and that at the tone of conversation. She looks towards Cassima as she joins, adding something to the table.

Tabitha gives Dominique a sweet smile, then turns back to Wylla with another. She doesn't say anything more, just nibbling at her chocolate with little mousey nips and bites. Turning to Reese, eyebrows quirked in curiosity, she says, "Oh, that sounds interesting, your highness. What kind of works?"

Reese turns to Tabitha. "Paintings mostly. But I have a statue of Luca's butt before." She says toward in her direction.

Nodding as she hears the update, Dominique ahhhs, "Well that's good to hear. Please let me know if you liked it, I can always bring some more back from Blancbier." And with that, she goes quiet, content to listen once more.

Wylla reddens a little at what Reese says, though she was already crimson before. She sinks into her chair a bit, clearly mildly embarrassed, though not scandalized.

Sabella holds up a hand, "Do not need to know, do not want to know! I see enough of Luca as it is."

Lucita gets 'The Black Fox', after Setarco-for Prince Niccolo from twilight lioness pouch.

Continuing to hang out at the bar with her (now second) glass of wine, Caith does nod to Sabella's earlier remark. "Yes, Tomkins is my cousin and he is marvelous. Growing up, I'd spend every summer with him and the rest of the Learys down at Leaholdt. He -- and my other Leary cousins -- are like the brothers I never had." Then there is a comment about Luca's butt and she just .. giggles. I mean, come on! How can you not?

Tabitha chews more slowly on the chocolate, eyes widening at the mention of butt statuary, looking as if she absolutely no idea how to reply to such an assertion. And indeed she doesn't. "Mmhm?" she says, still rolling a bit of that deliciously chocolately chocolate goodness around the inside of her cheek. Finishing it with a small gulp, she says, "Oh. Well done. Sculpture is.. is a very fine art."

Around this time, Cassima stands up again and moves to the center of the room. She clasps her hands before her once more and clears her throat. "Excuse me, all. As the evening wears on I imagine some of us will be coming and going, so I wanted to thank you all for coming this evening now. Additionally, if this is something you might like to do again, or if you have any ideas for how these little meetings might be improved, your feedback would be much appreciated. Finally, if you would like to host one of these monthly events, either in your local Inn, your Home, or somewhere else entirely for food and drinks or an activity, please let me know so I can make a list of future hosting opportunities. Thank you again, ladies. For may part, I am glad to have met so many new women of Arx, and I look forward to getting to know you all far better in the future."

Lumen is overheard praising Cassima for: A fabulous hostess!

Vanora is overheard praising Cassima for: A lovely hostess and a worthwhile event

"It was so lovely meeting all of you." Vanora Pravus states to those at the Captains Table before rising to her feet with slow, deliberate grace. "Until next time, be very well."

Elgana is overheard praising Cassima for: A most charming hostess!

Wylla offers, "I can have wine in the Shrine," towards Cassima. "Wine and dine in the Shrine," she adds, before blinking. "That one isn't very good. But anyway, I can, um, offer the Shrine for the next one, if you'd like. It's getting rebuilt again. Just send me a message and we can set up a time, Your Highness. And maybe we can sculpt. Though... perhaps not, on second thought."

After a few moments, Dominique eases on up from the table as if remembering something. "Oh, thank you for inviting me to join your table. I should get going though. There's a prior appointment I forgot." she admits sheepishly before curtsying to the various ladies at her table before passing by Sorrel for a quick goodbye and then off she goes!

Agatha certainly isn't clever enough to -plan- to show up as the celebration of all things gowned is coming to an end, is she? It hardly seems likely. Still, here she is. Well. Okay. There she is, right outside the door, pulling off the bear helm and sticking it in her backpack. Which means the hair is a disaster. Which means she's licking her fingers and trying to tame it before Elgana will see it. Which may not totally work when Vanora opens the door and the outside becomes visible. BUT! Eventually it's time to come in, all, "Oh boy, did I miss every..." Wait. There are still so many women here ! So many she doesn't see at the training center day in and day out. Gulp.

Dominique has left the Captains Table.

Metzger, a great grey shrike leaves, following Dominique.

Sorrel blows a kiss to Dominique as her cousin makes her departure.

Cassima grins broadly at Wylla. "What a wonderful idea! I've never sculpted anything in my life, you know. I'm entirely uncertain as to how it's done. Oh, how fabulous," Cassima decides. "Thank you, Archlector. And thank you all for coming!"
