Earlier this week I sent a messenger to the Regent letting her know I would be willing to serve as the Minister of Farms and Agriculture. Not because I have a wealth of knowledge on these affairs, but because I want to make some mark on Arx, leave behind some good reputation for the family that has made me Voice and Sword.

I would say that today was a momentous occasion because the Lady Regent appointed me to that manure-riddled posting. But it wasn't even the most momentous announcement in my life today. I went to the meeting of the Ministers and Councilors this evening thinking I might have to lay out some plan on five year growth strategies for corn. Instead, I learned about elves.

And if prayer will not bring comfort, then drinking until you cannot feel fear may suffice.

There are nights that we try to show our love, our compassion and our hope. We try to hide our fear so that we might be a light.

Remember, you gave me your word. You gave me your promise. I plan to hold you to it.

I came to Seawatch Gate to watch them go and to see who was going. I'm not sure if they saw me, it didn't seem so at least. I think they were all too busy making last minute preparations to notice the hooded girl lurking in the shadows. I waved, and watched till they disappeared from sight, and wondered which of them won't be returning.

I do not pray often. I did when I was a child, but none of those prayers seemed to be heard.

In exchange for years of unanswered prayers, I ask whatever god is listening to hear mine now.

Keep them safe.

Today, two of our Princesses head off on an important task - down a path that I cannot follow. It makes me restless being unable to be at their side, ensuring their safety, keeping their backs watched and protected. They are both capable and fierce, and I know they'll do the House proud - but I'm still anxious. The most I can do is sit and pray to the Spirits that they'll come home unharmed. I'm going to need some whiskey, the coming days are going to be very, very long.

There are times when taking a knee or kissing a ring will win you more favor than speaking your mind.

There are times we ask someone to do exactly what they are capable of doing. And there are times when we ask for far too much. In either situation, we hope that what we've asked for is the right thing. The best thing. And we hold onto our hopes and prayers for the best outcome.

I lost my father to those woods. Tonight, I can only hope and pray that there is no loss. Tonight, I hold fast that the best possible outcome will be achieved.

I'm off to go have a chat with some Elves.

If this is the last thing that's ever seen of me. I'm sorry. This isn't the best message to leave behind.

But I don't really have much else to say.

An excellent meeting today. The Silver Consortium may be the way of the future indeed, if its grand ideas are allowed to take shape in the material realm. If it does, we stand to profit greatly, and find our goods in the most remote corners of the lands. But we'll see. Too often dreamers come to a rude awakening...

Well, it appears that, under the influence of some quite powerful stuff the locals here call 'moonshine', I was challenged to a drinking game last night. I, of course, stepped forward to defend the family honor and seem to have acquitted myself well, or at least well enough to just about beat out the champion, a Lady Serafine.

A delightful woman, that one. I enjoy a drinking companion that can hold her own in the ring and in the drink. I look forward to our next meeting, and to conversing again to all those I met that night. Including Prince Anze, who I am told is quite the sparring champion. I look forward to seeing him in action and learning much from him.

If I trip over one my damn baby toy in this room, I will be at my wit's end. The child isn't even here yet and I still find myself stepping on something.

Today it was a small wooden block while I was walking to my desk.

Either Lou is playing a cruel joke on me or we seem be accumulating them mysteriously. Do children even need so many toys?

I can't believe my brother would consider so heartbreaking a thing to do as to take a precious gift, that a crafter's honest hands have slaved over, and consign it to the flames.
