The afternoon is bright, with the sun shining and casting sharp reflections off the cold waters of the harbor. The Incident from the night before is still very much impacting the docks, to the consternation of the workers whose livelihoods are being impacted by the sunken ship blocking off about a third of the docks.
The gangways themselves have been mostly repaired, though it's all a bit slapdash at the moment, focusing on regaining mobility, stability will come later. As for the caravel, the main mast is jutting out of the water at an angle, making several intact slips useless to any but the smallest of boats that can navigate around it. The water itself is dark and cold, though clear enough to see more than just a shadow of the ship laying on the floor of the harbor. It is about ten feet below the surface, the water's depths here around fifty feet to the sandy floor.
Rukhnis comes down the road with much the same dark and brooding look from the last time she was here, except moreso. Her cloak is held close around her, proof against the cold wind off the water, and as she nears the scene of the disaster she pulls it a little more tightly still, though it appears what troubles her is more the sight of the harbour than the chill of the air. She comes to a halt a short ways from the charred timbers of the dock, rising above what must be the equally charred and now also drowned remains of the doomed caravel, and observes it all with a frown as if wondering where to start with all of this.
Merek has taken his time to put a longcoat onto his black attire, while he makes his way into the docks. He is here to observe and look into things while people mill about to do investigations. He takes a cigarillo from a pack to light it, while he takes a moment to look around as smoke drifts away.
Salvador Costello, not so famed master engineer and shipwright from the southern islands has arrived, a little portable drafting table, essentially a plank of wood with some easle like stilts, all folded up, and a folio of papers, as well as a satchel full of an assortment of instruments, tools, ink and pens over his shoulder, and is making his way in the direction of the sunken ship.
Six galleys maneuver delicately in the harbor, going by inches and degrees as people from the ships shout across the water to each other, trying to coordinate. They're attempting to line up on either side of the sunken caravel, it looks like, but the jutting mast is making that process tricky, especially as the galleys are heavily ballasted, sitting low in the water, and difficult to maneuver. Ian has a small team of divers on one of the galleys, and they're conferring softly, gesturing to the water from time to time. The cold, cold, cold deep water. But it doesn't look like they're here to actually explore the sunken ship.
Felicia's been lurking around since... well, she forgot when. The redheaded Harrow woken out of a dead sleep by a resounding crash and the fire that followed. She might have shown up in her armor originally, but half of it has been abandoned near a safe spot on the dock so she could pitch in for the temporary repairs. A moment taken to refresh, get some water in her and consider the next steps has her staring blankly at the boat under the water.
Mikani shows up. Her dark eyes looking down into the water, a frown crossed her lips as she saw the ship in the bottom of the water. Her mind went to the events of the night before. Looking up she sees Rukhnis and smiles. "Hello." She calls out.
Sorrel is far more curious about the galleys that are coordinating an effort together than the sunken ship itself. She stands out, though, clad all in red, with snow catching in her dark hair as it spills out of her red hood. She glances around at the crowd present curiously, to see who is present and who might be helping.
It's a good bet that, if Evander hadn't been told about this by his cousins, he probably wouldn't be here at all. He's elected not to join them on the ships working to dredge the down caravel up, preferring the safety of dry land. His thin frame is pronounced under too-thin coat, shoulders hunched somewhat against the cold as he stands back from the slapdash remake of the gangways, coughing softly into his extra-long scarf. He's never seen a caravel before; obvious in the way his eyes are glued to the masts and shapes of it that can be seen above the waterline. A familiar voice turns his head, nodding to Mikani. "Countess," is murmured quietly.
Aethan is one one of those galleys at the moment as well, and he's periodically shouting orders to those aboard who are maneuvering them into whatever position they're planning on using to try and raise the caravel. It's a tricky business, but from what can be seen of him and anyone who knows, he doesn't seem to be any less composed than he is generally.
Rinel is kneeling quietly near the water's edge, peering down with no small amount of irritation evident on her face. On her lap is a small tablet and a stylus. She is muttering imprecations under her breath. "Blasted wind. Blasted snow. Can't make out--/bah/!" She stows the tablet and stylus in a pouch and stands with difficulty. "At least there's no miasma," she announces, to no one in particular. "Ah! Your Highness." Click clack goes the cane as Rinel limps her way to Sorrel. "Has your throat recovered?"
Peri has been consulting with people around the dock. People in Seliki colors are hear unloading supplies to help people who will be diving in cold water. There's a group who have set up an area with a fire and a cauldron. They're handing out hot rich drinks - NO ALCOHOL for the divers. Cold people need more food, especially people who will be doing vigirous work. "Rukhnis!" Peri waves when she sees her. "I have this hear for you!" She points to the sustance, the fleeces for warming divers as they come up, the fat salve for people to use when they dive.... everything.
Aethan checked intellect + sailing at difficulty 40, rolling 6 higher.
Acantha was back today to see how things were going. She was expecting it not to be good, but that's how huge ship fires went. There's a leather fur lined cloak about her shoulders, exchanged out from the one that was burned yesterday. She's still favoring her arm, but she is looking over things carefully. Benny skitters out in front of her, heading for the edges to see if he can see the ship down there. "Don't fall in." she whispers to Benny. "Oh wait, you swim just fine." she muses. There's a dip of her head to those that are around.
Rukhnis looks up from the water with a start at the sound of Mikani's voice -- she must be even more tired than she looks, not to have noticed the other woman's approach. "Countess," she says, and might have added something else, but then another very familiar voice bellows out to her, and she half-turns to acknowledge Peri as well. She observes all the supplies a bit dubiously, adding to her, "That may well be of use, but I am surely not going to be diving into the water myself." She grimaces faintly.
"It has, thank you," Sorrel replies to Rinel with an easy smile. "And I haven't been quiet since. No, I'm trying to stretch what I can do by singing. Mostly I've given myself nosebleeds and headaches. Coughed up some blood. But the taint makes the work more dangerous." She watches as the galleys coordinate. "I think they'll salvage her nicely.
"Is anyone here a skilled laborer, or has access to them?" Salvador calls out as he begins to set up his little workspace, though the task is a bit awkward, considering the man only has one fully functional arm, though soon enough he is setting out papers and tools. "Who's in charge here as well?" he calls out, "We need one proper plan so we're not all trying our own plans and getting in each other's way!"
Mikani smiles at Evander. "Lord Evander. How are you? Any new books?" Her grin grows until she sees that he's wearing a thin coat. Moving her head one of her guards comes forward and hands him a blanket if he so wants it. Mika's eyes look over what Peri is offering. "I could use that. I don't mind diving if need be."
Evander is drawn pretty quickly to fire that's been set up, shivering visibly. "Lady Peri. I see you've been hard at work," he notes, appreciatively, his voice soft, perhaps chattering a bit as he warms himself. "None, I'm afraid, Countess, but I've plenty left to work through from Princess Reese's generosity." The offer of an additional blanket from her guard earns a thankful nod, and the man wraps the blanket around his shoulders, unashamed.
Ian checked dexterity + athletics at difficulty 45, rolling 9 lower.
Felicia's gaze raises to take in the small galley's manuvering towards the caravel before her attention flits in the direction of Salvador with a grunt of acknowledgment,"Looks like whoever's controlling the galley's is dealing with that problem." she offers with a tired shrug,"Where did the survivors end up? The investigators are probably there, maybe." she adds on, rolling a shoulder before going to put her mug down near the carapace of discarded armor parts.
"No no, I don't expect that. We've set up a warming station here. I'll be assisting with the divers," She interupts with, "Hi Mika," and returns, "We'll need aftercare for them." She hears Salvador, "Hello Lord!" She bows, "I am Peri Seliki. Those galleys," She waves out to the harbor, "Belong to the Kennex's and they will be working to bring the ship up. There will be diving to pass ropes under the wreck." She goes back to preparing for the the whole mess of work.
5 inflicted and Ian is harmed for minor damage.
Rinel gives Sorrel a discerning look. "Hm. Well, do not exhaust your blood too quickly, Your Highness, hm? This weather tends the body towards melancholy. You will need your humours properly balanced to keep your warmth up." Her gaze turns to the busy workers. "It would appear the Lady Seliki has the workers well in hand. Will you be attending her?"
The ships manage to avoid the mast of the caravel, moving into whatever position Aethan has planned for them to allow Ian to hopefully do whatever it is //he// has planned. The elder of the two -- that is, Aethan -- says something to one of the crew of the ship, who in turn makes a signal to the group on the other galley who are going to make the dives.
Though she does move a little closer to the fire, Rukhnis's attention soon returns to the activity out on the water. She raises one hand to shield her eyes against the brilliance of the sun off the harbour, gaze intent as she watches the efforts of the galleys and the individuals directing their movements. She looks a little impressed in spite of herself, but she's still more interested in the ship -- though perhaps not for its own sake so much as for its origins.
As the galleys maneuver into position, one by one, the divers start to slip into the water. Whatever they're doing seems to have to do with the enormous number of lines (ropes) they're maneuvering under the water. Muck and silt begins to rise, a dark, foreboding cloud that seems to boil from the bottom of the harbor. The divers are down there digging. They're passing the lines, one by one, under the hull of the sunken caravel. Men can frequently be seen coming up for air or leaving the water entirely to bring their core body temperatures up before going back in. Ian is down for longer than the others, and when his head bobs up, there's a gash on his face, running down his cheek.
Lygeia, a calligrapher and alchemist, Deor, a young swordsman arrive, following Rysen.
Acantha gives a bit of a look over when blankets are brought out, but it's cold out so it doesn't really register at the moment. Benny's tail thumps and he goes skittering off towards the blanketed man. And he settles on his feet. Well, looks like there's something there to keep his feet warm. Acantha doesn't seem to notice that he's skittered off yet. But she will in a minute.
"I mostly came to watch the Kennex boys sail, to do their work in this whole process," Sorrel replies easily to Rinel, grinning a bit. "But I'll be fine. I'm pretty sure of it. Although I shall not be going in the water. Lord Ian decided to teach me to swim once, and Prince Galen happily tossed me from the ship."
Peri is speaking to various people until she feels people understand enough about what is going on to be able to handle things at the dockside. She's somewhat brusque in her effort to get things done quickly in this cold. "Mika, want to help get out there to assist the divers in passing ropes under? I'm heading out there now." Peri gestures to a small boat to take a crew out.
Just Messire, Salvador if you wish." Salvador says in response to Peri, nodding faintly at her as he peers at the Galleys, adjusting his calculations and making a quick sketch on his paper, "If they aren't careful they'll get the Carval off balance, tip it, and probably capsize a galley or two." He gives a glance cast to Felicia, "I know I saw some at the clinic not far from here."
Salvador checked intellect + woodworking at difficulty 30, rolling 41 higher.
"This sort of work is something Kennexes do all the time," Evander tells Salvador on the heels of Peri's response to them. "My cousins have plenty of experience out on the water." After a pause, he adds, "Lord Evander Kennex," with a nod to Salvador. His gaze inevitably returns to the water, watching the ships and those aboard working. He's frowning as he's noticed Ian's lagging behind the others, but sees him pop up, exhaling a breath, just as something goes to sit on his feet. Instinctively, he takes a hasty step back, catching one edge of the blanket and pulling it from around his shoulders as he does so.
Rinel nods to Sorrel. "Very well, Your Highness. In that case, I shall see if I may be of some small use." She bows politely to the woman, then clickity-clacks her way over to Salvador and Felicia. "Does anyone here actually /speak/ Eurusi?" the woman demands, her face set in a slight grimace.
Rysen, Deor and Lygeia come in from the Lowers just as Sorrel is speaking of learning to swim. Rysen chuckles softly. "Hopefully it wasn't in weather like this, Your Highness," he says, bowing to Sorrel.
Aethan checked command + leadership at difficulty 20, rolling 62 higher.
Mikani nods to Peri. "Yeah. I'll go and help. The cold doesn't affect me too much and I would love to get my swim in for today." She grins at Peri as she lets the woman help her get ready for the dive. Mika hearing the question from Rinel glances at Rukhnis before answering. "I do."
Merek lifts up his brow as Rinel makes demands, "I do, as do some of the others here likely," he offers.
Rukhnis flicks her dark gaze away from the water and towards Rinel as that woman puts her question, and grunts quietly. "I do as well," she says, and leaves it at that.
Peri checked dexterity + survival at difficulty 25, rolling 9 higher.
"They're Eurusi?" Felicia gets distracted from nodding acknowledgment of Salvador to turn towards Rinel with a grimace,"Not me." she acknowledges,"I just came to help out. And try to make sure the Lowers didn't go up in flames." she nods in the vague direction of Harrowed Grounds.
Acantha looks down and notices that Benny is gone and she looks around for a moment to see where he's gotten off to. That leaves her looking over to see the man stepping back and she rushes over, "I am so sorry. He is usually good about not wandering off." she states. Benny moves away, but Acantha picks up the blanket and gives it back to Evander. "I am sorry about that my Lord." she tells him.
Ian checked luck at difficulty 10, rolling 29 higher.
Evander takes the blanket back from Acantha, taking a moment to shake the snow from it before he wraps it around his shoulders again. "Quite all right," he murmurs to Acantha, half-eyeing the badger with some surprise. "I didn't think those could be tamed," he admits, his gaze flicking towards Peri and Mikani as they prepare to go into the water, just a slight furrow at his brow.

Sorrel offers a cheerful little wave to Felicia when she addresses Rinel, and she smiles easily enough, watching the work being done without volunteering to get in the water. That looks cold and uncomfortable. She does start to sing something which sounds a bit like a sea shanty but doesn't really have any words. It is cheerful though, and might actually be good for morale.
Rukhnis notes Rysen's presence as he speaks to Sorrel, and inclines her head to him from her place by the fire, just in case he happens to be looking her way. She then folds her arms across her chest, gaze turning just a shade more brooding as the origins of the ship and its crew are discussed. Her fingertips drum a light, restless rhythm against one arm, though aside from that she remains perfectly still, watching, waiting.
"I do this for a living as well." Salvador says at Evender's words, "And I can tell you they're set up for a very dramatic failure if they keep going as they are." He frowns, more fierce scribbles, it looks like a rough sketch of the galleys, the ship below and some adjustments perhaps indicated, as well as mathematical calculations along the margins that might as well just be giberish in that typical math professor way. "I need someone to take this to them, they need to adjust the rigging of their hoists, precisely as I've marked there." He taps, holding the piece of paper out, waggling it about a little for someone to take it from him.

Rinel nods brusquely. "Good. What do we know of the reason for their coming?" she asks, glowering at the sunken ship. "I mislike their emissary, and I do not trust this ship, sunken or no." Rinel looks at Felicia and shrugs. "There are are men in Saving Grace with burns and fevers, raving in Eurusi. I heard about the ship--I had hoped to confirm it by seeing if I could discern any writing on its side, but..." She gestures disdainfully to the water with her cane. "Wind, snow, men cavorting in the harbour as though it were the height of summer... tch."

Acantha gives a look up to Evander, "Beavers? Well, most are wild, yes. But Benny is special." she smiles to that. "I apologize that he tried to sit on your feet. He tends to do that when I'm back at home and writing." she admits. "The only reason we were here yesterday was he decided to try to see if my toy boat would float." she chuckles. "Are you keeping warm enough?" she asks Evander.
Rysen makes his way over to Rukhnis with Lygeia and Deor and unclasps his black mantle, and takes off his boots. "Deor, Lygeia, please help Rukhnis if she needs anything." He makes his way over to the dock and takes a deep breath before diving into the frigid water to help get the ropes beneath the boat.
Mikani hugs Rysen quickly as she sees him before she runs and dives into the waters. Mika dives deep following the ropes to get them around the ship. She is under for a long time before she surfaces with a hissing sound. She looks at her hand as it is cut. Pulling cloth from her holster she wraps it around her hand before she looks around and dives again.

Evander's brow furrows further at Salvador's answer, and the way he waves the paper about for someone else. "Perhaps instead of relaying, Messire, it might be helpful if you head out. That way if further corrections are needed, you're right there. There's a boat down there that can take you out. Tell them Evander Kennex asked that you be transported to see Lord Aethan." Somewhat distractedly, he nods to Acantha's question: he's used to being cold, or he's just distracted watching the Kennex people at work again.
Felicia dips her head respectfully in Sorrel's direction with a small smile. There's a glance from Salvador with his paper to Evander with a loft of her brow for the Kennex, the Harrow offering a low whistle under her breath,"If you'll excuse me, I'm going to get something to drink and see what they want me to work on next." she offers in general, electing to prowl off in the direction of warmth before circling off to go see the attempts at the ship.

Peri is well prepared for the dive, hair bound up and out of the way, body layered with fat for extra insulation as she learned to do from living farther north of Arx. She takes one of the ropes and dives down to position it under the wreck. Some time later she comes back up. Her form arm is scraped from her efforts, but she is ok aside from that. She's ready for another go!
"They are Eurusi of a certainty, and this indeed the ship they came in on," Rukhnis answers Rinel in a faintly edgy tone of voice, "but I do not believe anyone has learnt anything from them, with the state they are presently in. They were half suffocated by smoke and chilled through by the water, on top of being ill with no one knows what."

"Aye, if you've got a rower, I'll take it out myself." Salvador says, "If left to my own devices, I'll be rowing in circles all day." He says, waving the primitive prosthetic that is his left hand a bit for emphasis, but he starts towards the skiff indicated, "Evander Kennex sent me, I'm to be taken out to Lord Aethan." He says, moving to board the skiff.
Acantha gives a look over the ships while Evander talks to Salvador. She hears the name that Evander gives and she looks back with a bit of a surprised look to her face, but doesn't say anything for the moment. Though after a moment she does seem to shake herself free of the initial surprise and she scoots Benny a bit towards her. "Lord Kennex, is there anything that I can assist with?" she asks him.

The ships hold the line of whatever they're doing, and Aethan shouts back some further orders to those on the ships. While they're hard to hear over the various noises of what they're doing, they must have been followed faithfully, since he's still composed as he turns back out toward the water.

Rinel looks at Rukhnis thoughtfully. "I see," she says. Her fingers tap the handle of the cane. "I don't suppose, Goodwoman," she begins mildly, "that you'd happen to know the meaning of 'a'sib in a na--" But then her eyes are flicking to the water, and she interrupts herself with a shout, moving as quickly as she can towards the water's edge.
She cannot move very quickly. "Sharks!" Rinel yells, and--wow. She can't walk fast, but she /sure can yell/. "Sharks in the water! Get /out/!"
Evander checked composure at difficulty 15, rolling 18 higher.
Evander gives an encouraging, and thankful nod towards Salvador. "Thank you, Messire," he murmurs. As he suggested, the man at the oars glances at Salvador, shrugs, and sets about ferrying him out to the Kennex ship. Glancing from the ship to Acantha, he shakes his head. "Unless you have some expertise in diving I wouldn't suggest going in. Once they get the ship up we'll need everyone's eyes to try and figure out what happened. Is that--" he lifts his voice, cupping his hands to try and yell, "Ian," but his voice is lacklustre, far too soft to carry. He turns instead to Acantha, "Sharks. You need to call out to them, warn them," he tells her.
"There are sharks in the water!" Sorrel's song notes, wavering quite a bit, and she gets louder, "SHAAAAAAARK! IN THE WATER!" and holds the note intensely, almost like a warning siren. "See the blood, See the red, Get out now, Or you'll be dead! Shaaaaaaark! In the water!"
Rukhnis's gaze is distant yet intent as she watches the water, and her eyes widen with alarm as she notices the sharks too. She opens her mouth, but ends up only biting off a stifled exclamation as Rinel belts out her own warning right next to her.

Peri eels up out of the water onto the nearest boat. "Shark!" Once she's in the boat she starts working with others in the boat to get everyone out of the water.
Acantha gives a stiff dip of her head as she looks to Evander, "On it. Stay here. Don't get in the water." she tells him. Then she's rushing to the edge of the docks and unsheathing her sword as she yells, "LORD IAN! Sharks in the water!" she yells. Then she's beating her sword in the water against the wood, "Help me make noise, smack the water. Hopefully it'll draw them away to the ones in the water!" she points to a few people just standing around.
The calls of sharks draw Aethan's head sharply toward the docks -- and it's a split second later that he's shouting more orders, while those on the deck of his galley get to work, some of them beginning to lower ropes, others apparently coordinating with the rest of the galleys there to do the same. Though they're working quickly, it's going to take them a bit to get all the way down to the water. They are going as fast as they can, though.

Rukhnis, besides looking alarmed by whatever is happening below the water, appears entirely bemused by the notion of sharks. Sharks, and people being eaten by them, doesn't seem to be a thing she has much experience with. At Acantha's shout she startles a little and, grabbing up a loose scrap of wood probably left over from the chaos of the previous night, dashes down to the edge of the water to whack at it. She looks as if she finds it a little bit ridiculous, but she does it anyway. Vigorously enough that she's getting about as wet at the divers.

As she does this, though, she still keeps beating the water, probably doing more to drench both Rinel and herself than distract the sharks from the easy feast they already seem to think they've found in the harbour.

At Aethan's command, the lowering finally finishes, the ropes from the galleys smacking the water as they drop in. The crew on the ships call out to any in the water who are near enough to grab one, or swim to grab it, as the case may be. Aethan doesn't look much changed by the goings on -- though considering how flat his affect is generally, and the fact that they're relatively far away from the dock, it's hard to see exactly what his face looks like.

Did Ian hear the warning about the sharks? It's hard to tell at a distance. He looks around and disappears under the water again. A moment later, a place under the water nearby begins to churn and foam, and when something ominous and dark rises to the surface, it's not muck or silt, this time. It's blood. A lot of blood. And then, gradually, the belly-up form of a shark with Ian clinging to its back by the hilt of his dagger, which is sticking out of the creature's eye. There's blood. There's a lot of blood. Not all of it belongs to the shark -- that much is clear right away. Ian's left arm is a mess from where he let the shark chew on him so he could get a good shot at it.

"Over there!" Salvador calls out, pointing towards where Ian is, bleeding and such, and it's perhaps more than a little ironic that the man missing his own left arm, is trying to rescue the fellow the the mangled mess of an arm as well, He leans over to try to grab hold of him with his one hand, and hook with the left to try to get him aboard the skiff, but there's just too much blood, and he can't get a good grip.

Felicia jumps into the frigid water and makes a beeline for the closer of the two sharks as best she can to try and buy the divers some time to escape. She doesn't bother trying to pull out one of her weapons, at least, not immediately, in favor of trying to simply get to a point where she can try and grab one of the beasties in the world's dumbest bear hug with the intent of stabbing it.
"I am going to set up medical," Merek mentions then to Rukh, while he moves to do all that, as his longcoat is adjusted about him while he checks his alchemy belt as people fight the sharks as well.

Rysen swims for the dock just a stroke behind Mikani. He smiles to see her swiftly pull herself from the water, and he quickly follows, and, dripping with frigid water, puts a reassuring hand on Mikani's shoulder. He then immediately turns to look for a spear or harpoon that may be nearby on the dock.
Two of the Kennex divers have become aware of the blood in the water, the death of their compatriot and the two other attacks from the monsters of the deep. They decide it is definitely time to get the hell out of the water and start swimming strongly for Aethan's galley, grabbing the ropes that were lowered and pull themselves out of the water.

Acantha gives a look to Benny when he looks like he's going to jump in and there's a stern look, "Don't you dare jump in. That's a shark. I don't care HOW big you think you are." she hisses at him. She's beating the water and trying to make the noise to draw things away. There's a moment she squints though and looks to something. Then her eyes are going wide, "We've got incoming and it's moving fast from under the water!" she calls out.
Peri checked dexterity + athletics at difficulty 25, rolling 22 higher.
Rinel pauses, then plunges her hand into the water. She clenches her eyes shut and whispers a quiet invocation. "Lady Mangata, Mistress of the Sea, in humble supplication I grant my blood to Thee, that Thou mayest send it to Thy creatures of the deep, and with this off'ring sate them, that they might peace'bly sleep."
There is a ripple over the surface of the water, like a breeze blowing from the land onto the sea. A sense of something calm settles over the water.
Peri maneuvers her skiff to get at one of the Kennex divers who was failing. She catches and heaves him out of the water. His leg is bleeding pretty badly. She starts to the docks and medical care as quickly as she can.
Evander has neither weapon nor any combat experience: no great surprise, given his thin frame. What might be surprising is that he seems to be turning and running away from the harbor -- as fast as he can. It's not any demonstration of cowardice, though -- he's seeking to find the nearest member of the Iron Guard and alert them, intending to bring additional help, since he can't do much else on his own.
As a ripple passes over the water, Rysen makes his way over to Rukhnis gazing in wonder at Rinel. A slight smile passes over his lips. "She certainly has a gift," he says softly.
Peri is overheard praising Rinel.
Ian wrenches his knife free from the eye of the shark. It's clear that it's his instinct to stay in the water and look after his dive team, but the cold has long since started making him clumsy, and that was BEFORE he let a shark gnaw on him so he could kill it. He looks down at his arm like someone who doesn't totally comprehend that all of the blood coming out of it is coming from him.
Rysen is overheard praising Ian: Shark slayer
Mikani looks at the calm water. "She does that." Mika replies quietly watching those in the water. "Ian .... Ian ... you need help getting out of the water?" She calls out to the man getting ready to dive back in to haul him out if she needs to.
Just like that, Felicia's target seems to evaporate, and the Harrow treads frigid water for a few confused moments trying to find it. After a moment she decides that safe or not, grabbing the injured diver near her is in order. And then she makes for the nearest galley just in case it shows up again.
"C'mon, over here!" Salvador calls to Ian, reaching to try to grab the wounded man, "Get into the boat if you want to live!" He gestures at the rower to get them closer to the nobleman again.
Rukhnis barks after the departing Merek, "Have the people at the clinic send whatever they can, though they will still be spread thin after yesterday." She's still busy beating the hell out of that water, until Rinel starts praying, and that calmness suddenly descends on the water. She grunts quietly, looking abashed for a moment, and then casts her spar of wood aside with a disgusted glance for how it's failed her. As Mikani and Rysen emerge bleeding from the water, Rukhnis corrals both of them and begins cleaning and field-dressing Rysen's wounds with water from near the fire and a length of bandages that she's produced from the folds of her sash.
The crews on the galleys are hauling their compatriots out of the water as soon as they grab the rope, but Aethan is still scanning the churning waves, and when he sees Ian still in there, something shifts in his face. "Get out of the water!" He fairly roars at his brother.
Merek nods back to Rukh, "I'll make sure about it, I'll bring my own things too!" he exclaims.
Salvador checked intellect + sailing at difficulty 20, rolling 79 higher.
Ian has been showing a ridiculous lack of concern for his own well being, given the state of his arm. Treating water awkwardly, his head sometimes bobbing under the surface for a moment, he waves Salvador off. Is he planning on hunting down the other shark? He might be -- then Aethan yells at him, and even with him mostly under the water, there's no doubt his spine stiffens. Now, now he finally grabs onto one of the oars of Salvador's boat and hauls himself out of the water. As he does so, it's clear that not only his arm is hurt. It looks like the shark had a snack on his lower leg somewhere in the beginning of their engagement.
By the time Evander makes it back, he's breathless, coughing, and certainly of no help in the ongoing rescue. On the upside, though, he's accompanied by a small patrol of the Iron Guard, the five members moving to the water's edge to help those scrambling to get out of the water. The thin Kennex Lord stands near the fire, hands on his thighs, wheezing as his gaze flickers around and tries to catch sight of those he knows. He sees Ian, climbing into the boat, but his gaze keeps moving.
"You'll be alright." Salvador says, patting Ian a bit as he settles into the boat, the pat however comes from the semi-functional prosthetic that makes up his own left arm. "Drop me off at that galley there." He says to the rower, pointing at the nearest of the Kennex ships "Then get your Lord to the medics." He says. He'll eventually make it to where Aethan is, "Lord Kennex, My name is Salvador Costello, I was trying to get out here when all of this happened with the sharks... you need to adjust your galleys and your rigging." He'll hand the hastily sketched out schematic for the operation he did, "With the galleys as they are, the caravel is unbalanced, you'll snap ropes, maybe lose a galley, men as well probably. I can offer my assistance if we need to make any other adjustments for the operation."
Rinel keeps her hand in the water for a moment longer. "Thank You, my Lady," she whispers quietly. "I have not forgotten Mardomum--I shall not forget this." Then she withdraws her hand from the water. It's still bleeding, and she presses it awkwardly against her cloak in an attempt to staunch the flow. That leaves only her right hand to grab her cane, and she very clumsily stumbles her way to where the wounded are being treated.
Rysen nods to Rukhnis. "Thank you," he says, as his eyes track Merek's movement, before turning back to look at the water. "I'll help bring the wounded to you," he says to Rukhnis. "Deor, let's move," he says to the blonde haired swordsman and the two make their way to the dock's edge to wait for Peri's and Salvador's boats, along with any of the injured.
Ian says a few words to the men rowing Salvador's boat, and they don't row him back to the shore, but instead help him onto the galley. There's no question of him walking this off (or possibly walking at all), but he lets someone bring him a heavy blanket while he works on stopping the bleeding on his arm.
Merek eventually comes back with some supplies as well as some assistance, and also nods a bit to Rukh while he hands that to the woman, and settles so he can assist her with the people wounded, nodding to Rysen also.
Rukhnis finishes with her brisk treatment of Rysen's injuries, without any of the usual scoldings as she does so. She then shifts her gaze out to the water, the set of her mouth tightening as she watches people being pulled soaked and bloody into the boats. With a sharp shake of her head she begins snatching up the blankets brought by Peri and spreading them out on the ground, a repeat of the night before. Her brow is knitted tightly. She clearly suspects the severity of the wounds inflicted by the sharks.
It's hard to tell, but when Ian actually gets into the boat, there might be a tiny relaxation in his shoulders. There's another few barked orders, this time a bit less composed, it seems, than they were before. His eyes return to his brother as Ian gets brought aboard, and he almost looks as though he'd like to smack his brother, and might if Ian hadn't been bleeding everywhere. It's out of love, though. However, Salvador's words have him turning that way, though, and he tips his head to one side, listening, before he says, "Master Costello." Apparently it's meant as a greeting and an acknowledgement, because he starts to call back, moving his hands as he calls the orders to make the adjustments and raise the caravel.
Acantha starts to shift back a bit, "That was impressive Mistress." she dips her head to Rinel. Then she Spirit Walker is sheathing the sword she was smacking the water with. Benny gets a look and a stern shake of her head. "No, no going in the water. You can play with the ship at home." she tells him. Then she's looking around to see if anyone needs help. She gets to her feet and heads over to Evander, "Will you be alright, my Lord?" she asks him in a quiet tone.
Felicia drags herself out of the water after a couple of people help pull out the diver, moving to take them back so she can put those broad shoulders to work and carry the diver over to the triage area for attention. Her teeth already chattering long before she takes a blanket to wrap around herself,"How many did we lose?" she can't help but ask of the general gathering.
As the remainder of the divers are brought up onto the docks or the ships, Evander's gaze flickers over each one. "I saw Lord Ian," he says to Acantha. "Did you see the Lady Peri? The Countess Mikani?" He shakes his head, waving off the question. "I'll be... fine. Here," he starts to move forward, shrugging off his blanket and offering it add it to the one Felicia's pulled around herself.
It takes time, the ships having to do a delicate dance to haul up the caravel, and position it into a dry dock. The ship is in a terrible state, the entire bow burnt to the skeleton of the vessel, most of the hull is waterlogged, but shows signs of advanced dry rot. The main mast is cracked, the other two masts are broken off. This ship is never going to sail again, but it is up! And people can climb aboard to explore, if they like.
Peri calls out to the guards at the dock to help take the wounded diver off of the boat and to the area where wounded are getting tended to. She's scraped and bleeding herself, but it's nothing compared to the diver. She gets to wear Rukhnis and the others are and stands next to the fire, wrapped in a fleece, slowly warming up.
"I merely asked a question, Lady Clearlake," Rinel says, as she sits down heavily on a nearby chair. "It was the Lady Mangata who answered. The credit is owed to Her, not to me." She begins to wrap her hand awkwardly in a bandage, but attending physicians yank it away from her and begin doing it themselves. Rinel scowls at them, but silently consents. Then she sees the ship. "That... that ship was a floating ruin before the fire. What in the name of Aion?"
Mikani lets Rukhnis clean and dress her wound patiently. She says something to the woman in Eurusi before she heads off after Rysen to help with getting wounded to Rukhnis. Hearing her name she looks at Evander. "Lord Evander ... here I am. You need me?"
Mikani says in Eurusi, "Thank you Rukhnis, I am honored that you fixed my wound"
Acantha gives a nod to Evander and steps to the side when he moves, "Lady Peri is on the skiff heading for the dock and Countess Mikani is...." then there's Mikani, "Right here!" she smiles. "Countess, I'm glad you're alright." she dips her head to them. Then she's moving away to see what else she can help with.
"What is it with Eurusi ships and creatures with too many teeth?" Sorrel mutters as she tries to figure out who is damaged and to see if those on the docks need dry clothes. "Is everyone alright, for some definition of alright?"
Shaking his head, Evander affords Mikani a relieved, "No, I... nothing," he says. He sticks close to the fire, though he lets those fresh from the water claim the closer spots, nodding thankfully to Acantha as he settles in to watch the caravel be raised.
Rukhnis's dark gaze sharpens as the injured are brought to shore, and she begins bossing around the people that Merek has brought from the clinic, along with anyone else who might be brow-beaten into being useful. She directs the two divers with only minor wounds to one side with the directions get their wounds cleaned up and bandaged, and guides the seriously injured man to a thicker heap of blankets where she has him lie down -- or go down in a controlled collapse, at least -- and begins slicing away the tatters of his blood-soaked clothing with a small knife.
"Goodwoman Rukhnis," Rinel says. She looks deeply tired. "As you are obviously more acquainted with the customs of Eurus than others present, might I ask if it is common for ships to set sail in such advanced states of decay?"
It's hard to be sure why Ian insisted on being on the galley rather than coming back to the healers right away, but he sticks near Aethan, sitting on the deck, while the caravel is lifted by degrees from the sea like the slow awakening of an undead behemoth. He knows enough about first aid to roughly stop the flow of blood from his injuries -- hypothermia works in his favor there, with the flow of blood shunted away from his extremities, as well as with the pain. It's only as he starts to warm up that he develops the tension around his eyes that suggests he's starting to feel it.
Salvador remains on hand as the caravel is pulled from the bottom of the bay and into the dry dock, following along every step, helping out where he can with the one fully functional hand he has, and otherwise making adjustments and calculations as needed. Once it is in place he grunts, "This thing's a bloody mess... in way worse shape than just the time it spent below could account for."
Merek does his work quiet in the background, assisting with healing. He doesn't make any comments upon discussions about the ship, but does look to Rukh in thought as she's questioned, while he shifts his longcoat about him and sighs thoughtfully, handing some marigold ointment to the woman also.
As Rysen returns from assisting the injured to Rukhnis with Mikani and Deor, his grey eyes shift to the ship that has been hauled to the dry dock. He glance at Mikani and says, "Shall we have a look inside?" He is shaking from cold, but he's smiling, and there's a gleam of curiosity in his eyes.
"In my limited experience, no." Rukhnis has these brief words to spare for Rinel, and then she's snapping to Merek, "Hold this man down. He will need a tourniquet. You will be well," she add in a much more temperate tone to the unfortunate diver, before she takes up a thick length of bandage.
After some time shivering and changing into dry clothes Peri is focused again on the present and Rinel's question draws her attention to the ship hull's advanced state of decay.

Felicia jerks a little at the addition of a second blanket before offering Evander a nod of gratitude. Another hot drink is on order right now. Content to try and warm up rather than shove herself into something else.

Once the caravel's been raised, Aethan seems to feel like his part here has been played -- that is, he doesn't seem like he's going to be the one to investigate further, though he does turn to Salvador when the man says this, then back to the ship. "Huh." But whatever he thinks has to wait as he turns to Ian, looking his brother over with a critical eye. "We need to get you back in," he says, glancing toward the shore briefly before he looks as though he's going to begin doing just that.
Peri checked intellect + sailing at difficulty 20, rolling 47 higher.
Rinel nods to Rukhnis and lets the woman return to her work. She passes her cane to her left hand, wincing slightly as she grasps it through the thick bandages, and hoists herself to her feet. "Even an uncrewed ship can hold its own dangers," she says as she limps to Rysen and Mikani. "And this is no ordinary ship."
"I'm not bleeding anymore," Ian protests to Aethan with the air of a man who honestly believes what he has just said is comforting news. Also, it's not even true. The gash on his face is oozing a tiny bit of blood still.
Mikani nods to Rysen. "I would love to look at the ship. It was interesting when I was pulling people out." Mika nods for two of her guards to assist Rukhnis.
While the caravel is being lifted and transported, Rukhnis and Merek are able to stabilize even the more severely wounded divers. They are able to get them out of danger, though Ian, likely the most injured person, has yet to submit himself to the healers.
The ship is oozing water, with gaping holes in the hull that will allow for easier entry to the vessel.
Rysen gets Lagoma's Holy Flame from Holster of Knightly Necessity.
Between the ministrations of Rukhnis and the helping hand of Merek, the two of them manage to tend to the worst of the diver's injuries, at least to the point that he'll survive the short trip to the clinic for more thorough treatment. Rukhnis directs a nod towards the nearest assistant of any variety, saying, "He should not have that tourniquet on him for too long. Please take him on a stretcher to the clinic so that he may be properly seen to and stitched up." She gets back to her feet then with a quiet grunt, casting her gaze across the tended wounded nearby, then off towards the ship.
Rysen chuckles and nods in agreement with Rinel. "Very true," he says, and breathes into his hands for warmth. He makes his way over to the caravel, and pulls out a set of ember sticks, and a lantern etched with holy symbols. Winking at Mikani, he strikes them to produce a flame, and once the lantern is lit, holds it up to one of the holes in the side of caravel, looking for the best place to enter and start to look around.

Rukhnis mutters, "They need to get him to shore," as she stares in the direction of the galley with Ian still on it. With a scowl she casts a glance over at the caraval, looking as if she would very much like to be among those headed into the ship, but unwilling to leave in case the last seriously wounded man is brought back to the triage area.
Aethan snorts at Ian's words, though it doesn't seem very good-humored. He doesn't dignify it with more of a response, just says, "Let's go." He then begins making preparations to take Ian back to the docks where he gets seen to more effectively than on a galley.

Evander steps up once the water's sufficiently drained out of the caravel to allow access. He moves carefully; he's not the most agile, after all, his scarf wrapped over the lower half of his face.
After one hilariously failed attempt at standing up, Ian lets all but carry him off the galley when it docks and deposit him with the healers. Ian watches Aethan as he's pulled away to handle the last of the logistics of the salvage operation with the air of someone who'd rather be following along.

Felicia would probably be better staying outside. She's mostly just stumbling about when she approaches the ship, trying not to spill her drink and to keep the blankets around her, wrapped up like a child in layers to try and keep herself warm. It's no wonder that she mostly fails at finding anything or doing anything other than being a block to other people's attempts. She does, finally, follow some other person to a closed door that they give up on, and the redheaded Harrow decides to focus her attention on it. It starts with boofing on it in her blanket cocoon, but when that fails she elects to drain her mug and set it aside, unwinding herself enough from the blankets to free up her hands so she can put her shoulder into it. That doesn't work, either, and finally she doffs her cocoon entirely to brute force the door open with a gargle of effort. The 'why' is obvious as soon as it finally springs free... releasing the wealth of water that was concealed insider and giving her a fresh drenching.
Peeling her gaze away from the Eurusi ship with no small effort, Rukhnis takes advantage of the brief lull to wash her hands free of the last person's blood, lay down fresh blankets, and set out the next batch of bandages of various thicknesses, sponges, and also some clumps of moss that seems to be part of her sash supplies. As Ian is at last laid out by the fire, Rukhnis looks him over with concern which isn't evident in her voice as she says briskly, "You will be quite well, so long as you hold still for the next several minutes. Sir Merek--" She stops, as a look around shows that her erstwhile assistant has gone off to the ship instead. Gritting her teeth briefly, she turns a paradoxically calm gaze back to Ian, summons another assistant with an imperious wave of her hand, and sets to work on stopping the man's bleeding and soaking up the copious amounts of bodily fluids he's still losing.
Salvador will make his way over to the salvaged wreck once he gets back ashore, looking over the damaged Caravel from the exterior, his arms coming across his chest a little as he considers the ship. "Well..."
Rysen makes his way into a room inside the caravel, looking around with his lantern. Noticing a cabinet, he forces it open, and pulls out a heavy box. "Mika! I think I've found something," he calls. Attaching his lantern to his sword belt, Rysen heaves the box onto his shoulder, and makes his way out of the caravel towards the docks. When he's out in the light of the docks, he moves towards Merek and asks the smith, "Merek, can you take a look at this box?" Rysen slides the heavy box off of his shoulder and onto the dock with a loud *THUNK*.
Merek actually would've stayed to assist with the healing part, and next he nods to Rukhnis once all is finished, before he got the box, then he's back on docks with the box and being asked about another box, "I can... Look at them," he says.
Mikani moves to where Rysen is with the box. She kneels to take a closer look. Her hand brushing off any dust or sea filth from it.
Ian turns his attention from Aethan to Rukhnis. He's surprisingly calm, given the state of him. He's stopped most of the bleeding in his arm and leg, and seems patient about being tended to. There's the occasional flinch as his arm is tended to, but he straight up doesn't seem to feel what's being done to his leg. Out of his braced boots, it's clear that his legs are a lot thinner than his upper body, and his feet almost look shriveled, held at odd angles by weak ankles.
Carefully, Evander moves into the cargo hold. Everything's wet here, and he steps carefully amongst the spoiled food and discarded fabric. He moves further into the ship, peering within a drawer, playing around with some contraption inside. There's a soft click, and he pulls out three keys, regarding them for a moment before tucking them into a pocket. This time, as he moves around, he's looking for keyholes in which they might fit.
Felicia gargles some more in impotent frustration and snatches up her blankets again before pushing her way inside. A small box with copper inlay is in the ruins of the room and the redheaded Harrow decides to dredge it out before finding a place to sit and shiver while other people do the hard work.
Rinel returns from the ship with a canvas bundle in one hand. At the makeshift medical tent, she carefully unrolls the bundle, revealing a locked silver box, a velvet bag, and a completely waterlogged book. "These need to dry. Especially the book. But afterwards... well. I should like to know what they say, but I have absolutely no intention of keeping Eurusi artefacts in my home. Sir Black, you are still with the Scholars, yes? Would you take these and place them into the possession of Lord Vellichor's discipleship?"
Elsewhere in the Caravel, Salvador has made his way in through a hole that gets him to what must be the galley off the Pantry, grunting a bit he says, "What do we have here.." Hooking his hand under a box, and the prosthetic used to sort of grasp at another end, he begins to haul the box away, it has a rather heavy lock on it, it would seem, and he starts his way towards the hole he came in, hopefully.
Acantha gives a look behind her and there's a bit of a frown when she looks around. She does start looking through the ship. When she comes to one of the crews quarters theres a nightstand that is opened and a purse is there. She picks it up carefully and then looks at what's inside. "Oh wow." she whispers as she heads back out to the hallway looking to see if there's anything else.
Merek looks down, then back up, as he becomes the catologue agent, then he nods to Rinel, "Sure, I'll make sure they find our Archscholar," he says, while he opens up his pack he keeps with him, so he can offer to put them there, then he begins to check both the boxes.
Mikani as she looks at the box she pulls a safe out and sets it next to the box. "I found this in the stateroom." She looks closer at both boxes and tries to see if they open up.
Turning to Merek and Mikani, Rysen asks, "Did the crew say anything about the cargo they were carrying? Some of the passengers didn't look good, and it might be wise to gather more information before we do anything rash," he says, though his eyes remain thirstily on the box in front of him.
Peri watches Rukhnis tend to Ian. "I didn't plan for sharks." She grimaces.
"I have never seen a fish that eats people before," Rukhnis says as she works away at Ian's wounds. "Everyone else seems to find it commonplace. It does not seem very appropriate." As the bleeding has already, somewhat miraculously, lessened, Rukhnis gives the shredded flesh a careful but thorough cleaning before wrapping both arm and leg tightly with alternating layers of cloth bandages and absorptive moss. Finally she appears satisfied with the results, and pleased with the way Ian's holding up, and she nods to him slightly. "I believe you will recover very well," she says, in an only faintly marvelling tone.
Mikani looks at Rysen. "I didn't hear what brought them here. I found a safe in the stateroom. Too big to move. But it might have a clue in there." Mika shrugs a bit as she watches Merek look over the box Rysen pulled out.
"And please if you start feeling unwell after you are on the caravel report to a Physician. The crew of this vessel seemed to be sick and I would not want anyone suffering if it is contagious." Acantha states with a dip of her head. It wasn't a bossy request, more like a gentle request.
Merek checks on one of the boxes to look at what's on it, while he nods to Mikani, "You can look at the other, not sure we can open them, but," he seems thoughtful, while he looks to the one Rysen picked up, then his, moving to his to read inscriptions on it if any, and smell it.
Salvador moves to join the others who have re-emerged, setting the box he purloined down nearby, "This one was tucked up in the galley." He says with a tap of his artifical hand against it. "Locked though, someone'll need to find a key, or we'll have to break the lock if we want to find out what's inside."
Ian looks up at Peri. "At this point, I always expect something to show up and try to kill me," he sighs, sounding resigned. "They were probably abyssal. That was a powerful bite, even for a shark." Spoken like someone who's been bitten by a shark before. He nods to Rukhnis, as though confirming that yes, he will recover well.
"At least they weren't glass sharks," Peri says. "Rukhnis, could you check this scrape to make sure it's okay?"

The ship shifts in the dry dock with a worrisome creak. The walls of the hull are starting to bow outward as the deck shimmies underfoot. There is a sense that the stability of the ship is lessening.

"You are indeed a marvel of natural healing," Rukhnis tells Ian. Huffing out a short sigh, she sits back on her heels as she washes her hands again in a bucket of water that's not too bloody. "Abyssal sharks. Glass sharks. I do not know anything about any kind of sharks at all," she mutters. She slants a look back at the remains of the caravel again, lets out another sharp sigh, and looks back to Peri. "Did you get it while diving," she asks of the scrape.
Ian looks up when the ship lets out a low groan, and his brow furrows. He straightens a little bit and scans the dock. "That's not a good sound." So sayeth Captain Obvious. "Is anyone still aboard?" He shifts and makes another attempt at getting up, but no matter how willing the spirit, his legs are weak, and his boots are elsewhere. He's a lot less passive about it this time, though, and swears under his breath as he drops back to the ground.
Evander's found his way into a cabin, and is poking amongst the contents when the long creak sounds. If he were quicker, he might've been able to brace himself in the doorway: as is, the roll of the deck sends him sprawling, scraping the side of his head on the deck as he goes sliding out into the corridor, hitting the wall. He's stunned for a moment, just catching his breath. He may not know ships, but that creak is definitely not a good thing: that much he knows. A little uneven, he heaves himself up and begins making his way out the same way he came in, looking a little dazed and probably not as quick about it as he should be.
"That... doesn't sound good." Salvador says, any interest in the box he brought out gone as he turns to assess the ship, frowning a bit as he eyes the buldging of the hull..
Merek watches as the ship begins to do what it's doing, then he sighs a bit, "Let me get these out of the way," he says, while he takes a moment to place the boxes on another part of the dock, looking to Mikani, "Want to open the other with me? No idea what will be in them, so... Your call if you come with," he adds.
Sorrel has no intention of going in, especially not with the creaking sounds that ship is making. "I think it's going to go," she calls out, motioning to the salvaged ship worriedly.
"A safe? Wonder what could be -" Rysen is startled from speaking to Mikani by the sound of the ship creaking and bowing. He rushes to the safest distance he can get to the collapsing ship and yells, "Everyone alright?!"
The deck seems to be getting more unstable even as Felicia sits on a random surface in the hull to try and open the box she found. Coincidentally at the time she manages to open it. There's a sudden beetling of her brows and a tilt of her head, a twisting of the box as she endeavors to try and fathom what's inside. The sudden shift of the deck adds some 'loft' when she suddens hefts it away from her, suddenly turning five shades of crimson and wiping her hands frantically on the blankets even as she scrambles for the dock, ew, ew, ew.
"Scraped myself on barnacles here," Peri holds her forearm up to show Rukhnis. "I think something scrapped my back. 'starting to sting like a mo... really bad." Periscowls at the ground. The sound gets her attention. She jumps up. "People are still in there? We should get them out."
Mikani licks her lips as she watches the ship. "THere is still a safe in there. It could have why the Eurusi are sick and why they came." Mika watches the ship. Those that know her well know she's probably going to bolt back into the ship. "Can anyone open a safe?"
"Spirits preserve me. Gods please don't let this boat fall." Acantha whispers. Then she takes a tumble across the floor, knocking her head and there's a little trace of a welt, but she can see the way out. Then there's Evander as she starts to get up. "Come on quick. You out first." she motions for the Kennex Lord to go before her.
"Blast it." Ian's not done taking out a spasm of frustration with swearing. He collars (well, pantlegs) some poor passing person. "The boots over there. The ones with the metal in them. Bring them here."
Rukhnis is likewise distracted from Peri's scrape by the sudden commotion from the direction of the caravel, and she too jumps to her feet. "Good gods," she says, sounding a little appalled. "What are they doing over there? Are there people still inside? Are they opening up things they have found in there?"
Rinel staggers to her feet, groaning in pain. "Gods above," she says. "They'll release whatever miasma beset the sailors."
Evander's brow draws down as he picks his way through the cargo bay. "What?" he blinks at Acantha for a moment, focusing on her, reaching out a hand for her upper arm, though whether to steady her or himself isn't clear. "I'm fine. You first, my lady," he contradicts her, as they reach the hole.
"How can they be so foolish!" Rukhnis exclaims in an outraged voice, while at the same time sounding as if she ought to have expected just this degree of foolishness all along. She snaps her gaze towards Rinel. "Will they listen to you if you tell them not to open anything else? I do not have any knowledge of these matters. Aside from common sense," she says sourly.
"Whatever we're going to do, that ship isn't going to last long before the deck buckles." Salvador exclaims at Mikani's comment, "If there's anything or anyone else inside, you'll want to get it out."
Peri grimaces in pain she didn't realize she had when she jumps up, but she brings Ians boots to him.
Acantha dips her head to that, "Lord Evander." she doesn't want to argue with him and she scurries hastily back out to the docks as she holds a hand to her head. She turns to make sure that Evander gets out safely though. "I think we're the last out. Nothing else was opened!" she calls to them all.
Merek speaks over to Rinel, and to Rukhnis, while he winces at what he finds, placing blankets upon it, then he nods a bit. "Well, to be fair, we need to make sure we're not bringing boxes of plague and dark artifacts back to the city, or putting it back in the water, so... Not much we can do but check," he says.
Ian has his boots now, but his left hand is not totally functional, and there are a lot of laces, all of which have to be laced tight. He winds up just grabbing bandages and wrapping them tight around the braced leather instead of dealing with it. "Help me up," he says to Peri. "I'm going to make sure everyone gets out." As though he can force his broken and masticated body to do whatever he feels is necessary at the time, regardless of the shape it's in. Hell, maybe he can.
Felicia staggers away from the boat, it taking a few moments for the conversation to sink in, even with her cheeks still bright pink,"I... ah... the thing I found had a... had a..." the color goes darker even as the drowned rat of a redhead draws herself up to her full height and infuses as much stiffness into her spine as possible,"...sex aid... in it." she elects to mutter tightly.
Rukhnis shakes her head in frustration and asks, "And so the place to open such things is right here, in the midst of a busy port, where anyone may be hurt or afflicted?" She scowls. "If they must be opened at all, it should be in some area that is at least contained, or isolated, and not full of people."
Rinel looks at Rukhnis. "It's incredibly refreshing to meet someone who doesn't know who I am," she says, as though that's a response to the question that has been posed to her. "But you are right, Goodwoman. This is neither the time nor the place."
"As you notice, I'm on a fairly empty dock away from everyone else avoiding spooky ghost ship," Merek mentions, while he takes a moment to then move the boxes to a warehouse that is fairly empty and secured also.
Mikani goes into the ship to get into the safe.
Evander's indeed, close on Acantha's heels, climbing out through the hole and back down to the safety of the docks. His gaze flickers over the gathered items -- locked boxes that might fit the keys he holds, purses, a book -- but its to Ian his gaze goes, breath held as he watches his cousin trying to stand. "Easy, cousin. I think myself and the lady," he glances at Acantha, "Were the last off. You look awful," he adds. He might have a bit of a lump on his head, but all told, he's much better shape than Ian.

Peri blanches at the state of Ian's left hand and helps him up, but "Should you? I'll go, I'm in better shape. What does the doctor think?" She turns to ask Rukhnis and then sees that Evander and everyone is out.
Somewhere nearby, Aethan must have seen Ian trying to get up, because the sound of the older Kennex brother barking out Ian's name in The No Voice carries over the area. It's enough to dissuade Ian from insisting on getting everyone off the ship. Somehow. He shoots the older Kennex, wherever he is, a dark look, though. Once he's sure Aethan's not watching. "Your head's bleeding," he contents himself with informing Evander. 'Helpfully'.
"There are people who live right in this area, with heavy traffic to all parts of Arvum!" Rukhnis exclaims. "We do not know what we might be releasing, or how it might spread! It--" She snaps her mouth shut with a growl, mutters something under her breath in Eurusi that is too quiet for even other people conversant in it to decipher, and turns sharply away, flinging up her hands.
Peri is overheard praising Rukhnis: sensible!
Rysen curses under his breath and dashes into the ship after Mikani.
Acantha gives a moment to stand and make sure that Evander is off and she heads over to Ian with him, "I think..." and then Mikani is going onto the ship. "Countess!" she calls. "It's not safe..." she trails off. "Hopefully it just didn't like Lord Evander and myself." she whispers. Then she stands there looking at the ship and then back to Evander and Ian. Though she looks at Evander when Ian points out his bleeding and there's a frown, "Let me get something." she tells them as she hurries off to get a bandage. When she comes back she whispers something to Evander as she reaches up to wipe the blood from his head.
"I'm certain what I found is foul, but unless someone actually attempted to /use/ it I don't see how it could be in any way dangerous." Felicia huffs,"If there's something dangerous... it's more likely to be in those who were rescued from it than the ship itself." she suggests.
Rinel sighs. "She's right. The Lowers is the worst place in the city to set loose bad air. Miasma sinks down and collects here. If there is a disease... well." She gives Rukhnis an appreciative look. "Sensible."
Mikani looks at the combination on the safe. She tries to get it to open, yet it doesn't work. She chews her lip and looks over at Rysen as he comes into the stateroom. Her dark eyes move back to the safe before she nods to Rysen. Understanding what his eyes were saying. "Right ... out of here." Mika says with a sigh.
Rysen checked luck at difficulty 15, rolling 15 higher.

Salvador glances towards Rukhnis, nodding at her, "If there's some sort of danger suspected." He says, "Someone should take what's been collected and secure it someplace, or at least take it somewhere safe to be opened up, like she says."
"Exactly," Rukhnis says to Rinel in a clipped tone. Shaking her head, she is still scowling as she turns back to look at Peri, though the expression clearly isn't meant for her. "Considering the very unusual nature and circumstances of this ship, I think you should keep a very close eye on any wound you might have received from contact with it," she tells the Seliki woman. "I will be glad to clean it for you, but still I think it wise to be careful of it."
The creaking of the ship grows louder, the deck trembling and buckling under the feet of Rysen and Mikani. Rysen, with a bit of spectacular luck, is able to push Mikani out of the ship, just as it begins to collapse. Mikani's luck is just bad enough to trip on her way out, twisting her ankle. The ship begins to collapse in on itself, the wood cracking and crumbling and ending up in a huge pile.
Peri turns to ask Evander a question, and she winces at the motion. She nods at Rukhnis's recommendation. "Could you check my back? I think it's worse than..." Peri sees the ship collapsing on itself and her jaw drops. "Mother."
Evander stares back at Ian with a tip of head. "You're bleeding, too," he points out, unhelpfully, perhaps. "I--" and then Acantha's words pull his attention around. "Countess, what are you--" but it's too late. He makes to move, but Rysen is chasing after her. "It's fine," he tells Acantha, distractedly, but then something she says makes him look at her sharply. Before he can answer, there's the sound of cracking wood, and he turns to watch the Caravel collapse, only taking a breath when he sees Rysen and Mikani tumble out moments before.
"Gods above," Rinel breathes. "We lost how many souls for the ship, and now it's--please, let these objects be of some use."
Ian seems at peace with the collapsing ship, possibly because everyone seems to have gotten out in one piece. Possibly because Aethan and The No Voice are around somewhere nearby, and it seems like instinct for Ian to follow his older brother's orders.
Rukhnis blinks and jerks her gaze back to ship yet again as it falls noisily into a heap of debris, and lets out a slow breath only when she sees that everyone seems to be safely out of it. She looks uneasy for a moment, and moreso at Rinel's words, but then she looks back to Peri with a small nod. "Please," she says to the other woman. "Sit on one of the blankets, and I will see to it."
Felicia furrows her brows again and makes a noise low in her throat with a shake of her head, muttering to herself under her breath. The ship collapsing brings her squinting that way before she elects to find a barrel to park herself on for now.
Mikani checked composure + performance at difficulty 25, rolling 5 higher.
Acantha gives a bit of a look around after Evander gives her that sharp look. She manages to give a dip of her head, but doesn't say anything. Though one of her guards finally catch up to her, "My Lady, are you alright." he asks. She gives a nod and waves him off, "I need to go find Benny. Please be safe, Lord Ian and Lord Evander." she dips her head to them. Then she's hurrying off to find her beaver. Which doesn't take her long. He's staring at the pile of wood longingly. "No, not wood you can eat." she tells him.
Merek takes a bit, but he comes from the warehouse with the boxes, both are sealed up, even the ones that were also open, with some extra security placed upon them. He then takes a moment to commandeer a wagon, while he begins to load up the boxes safely, and nods a bit then also. He comes back to Rukhnis and Rinel, "My apologies, I wasn't thinking about it when I did, I just wanted to make sure they were safe fore' bringing them through the Lowers or Wards proper, either way they are sealed up, I will be taking them both, mine and Lord Rysen's if he doesn't mind, to a secure location."
Mikani groans as she gets moved out of the ship. It was like a dance, except where her boot caught the ship. She felt her ankle twist and the searing pain. She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes for a brief moment. She was able to hold back her scream of pain as she looked around for Rysen making sure he was okay. She takes a few deep breaths trying to stay composed. "Well the safe is free now." She says with a warm tease.
Merek also adds, "It's better in any case than leaving it on the ship for raiders, not that it matters anymore," he motions to the sunken ship also. "I'm not sure about why we pulled it up."
Evander glances after Acantha for a moment, "I found keys," Evander says aloud, "But whatever it opens now is probably... under that," he eyes the tons of wood with a frown.
"You ok?" asks Rysen to Mikani, shaking off the slime and fragments of wood as he gets to his feet. He glances back toward the rubble.
"We knew the ship would be in bad shape from the fire and the collapse.. but the dry rot we couldn't have accounted for." Salvador says as he hears Rinel's words, nodding toward her slightly before looking back at the remains of the ship.
"I think there were some trunks taken off the ship yesterday," Ian says to Evander. "You might write to Lord Ahmar and see if they were locked."
Mikani watches Rysen. "My ankle is messed up ..." She says softly before looking back at the ship. Mikani tries to stand.
Peri takes a seat on the blanket like Rukhnis said. "We cleared out the hazard to other ships. Hard to count deaths you prevent."
Evander's brow furrows at Ian's words. "I can. He didn't answer my last missive, but I can try."
Ian snorts. "Bet you get his attention when he finds out you found keys."
Rysen offer Mikani a steadying arm, and says, "We should let Rukhnis take a look. Afterwards, let's dig out the safe."
"If it was locked," Evander says, "It was probably locked for a reason, no?"
Acantha has to pick up Benny, whose reaching out to the pile of ruined ship. WOOD! It's a beaver's heaven. "Come on. Time to go home. We have a ship you can play with." she mutters with a laugh.
