Port Stormbreak is surrounded by defensible rock structures. The approach with the current is right along the cliffside coast. The port itself is closer to sea level, and the city rises up with crowded streets and a plentitude of stairs. A single bridge stretches out, more than two hundred feet high and out to an outcropped spire on which a lighthouse has been built. The buildings are white stucco, reflecting the sunlight during the day and retaining heat at night
It hadn't been the hardest of journey's from Arx to Stormward, the spring weather hadn't always been easy but it was at least better than some may have predicted. Pirate's Bane of course will be first ones past the blockaid that had been set up by Isle's Canines, their homecoming met by cheers from the docks as those in the city knew the race was coming and had been watching to see when their Duke and his family would arrive. Dauntless could occasionally catch sight of the Kennex ship ahead of them and was not far behind when they pulled into the harbor. It was later in the afternoon that those that watched would catch sight of the brightly colored, Riverdragon's though even in last place the Rivenshari seemed in good spirits.
At the docks when they arrived each ship was met by a representative of Isles Canines, and instructed to a local in. Yes, even the Kennex weren't to sleep down at the docks.
Ian checked luck at difficulty 15, rolling 25 higher.
Vano checked luck at difficulty 15, rolling 0 higher.
Rosalind checked luck at difficulty 15, rolling 7 lower.
The Pirate's Bane comes into port a hair ahead of the Dauntless -- but the happiness many among the crew display to be arriving is unlikely to do with being first in the race. This is home, after all, so it stands to reason. Aethan himself does not particularly look //happy//, per se, but there's a sort of softening of his features, coupled with an aura of calm, that denotes the same, however muted it may be. The orders he snaps off as their ship comes in are even a bit less harsh -- possibly. It's hard to tell, but it seems so.
The Windrunner pulls into port well after the others. One might think they would be subdued, but the clansmen are singing and laughing. They bring the longship into port with competant ease and quickly stow things away. Athaur hops of the ship onto the deck. "What good fortune my friends! We have arrived after the other crews have tuckered themselves out! We shall have free reign on the food and drink!"
Soon as the Toska goes into the port, Rosalind is off and running onto the dock,"Feels so good to stretch my legs!,"taking a breath of the air. "Ohmygosh! What is there to do around here? Somewhere to get a drink? I need to look at everything before we have to do more of the things!" Settle yourself Rosa! She looks over at her crew mates and the others on the boats, flashing a big smile. Finding some random person walking by, she points to him,"Hey you! Want to show me around?"
Hey, the Rivenshari made it at least! They, uh, let everyone else go first so they'd identify the best way through the roadblock, thats it! Regardless when they finally pull up to the dock, Vano's hopping out to help tie the boat up, skidding to a stop, though Athaur's comment draws up a cheer from the big man, "About time! I need something after that trip!"
Ian still isn't at his best, and is pretty unsteady, coming off the ship and onto dry land, but not so unsteady that he actually falls over. If he were alone, he'd probably stay on board and sleep on the ship, but he's got his wife with him, so he gets them a room, something that balances luxury with being near where he knows his crew is going to be celebrating their welcome home. Just in case.
Felix stays out of the way as the ship comes in - he can tie a few knots, but the sailors better know what they're doing. He's more or less around for moral at this point. All the same, he stands toward the front, grinning slightly as they reach the dock. Shaking his head a bit at Athaur's levity, he is disinclined to go against it, and instead just comments; "If we took any longer they'd have built new ships to race us back in." with a laugh, as he moves to disembark once they are docked.
The ships are pulling into the dock and once they're all set, Porter finds somewhere to sleep. Probably. He must sleep. In addition to his clothes, he keeps a leather pouch clutched tightly to his chest. He sends furtive looks in Aethan's direction. This is normal.
Wash leaps overboard to tie up. "Last one off gets to watch the ship!" He crows.
Even Abellus is grinning, though this might be at the prospect of being on dry land again more than anything else. He helps to get the boat properly moored, and then he's off toward that inn, looking forward to a hot meal and cold beer.
Catalana walks calmly down the gangplank before coming right to the end and shouts "Wash, catch me!" She suddenly leaps onto her husband's back and demands a piggy ride up to their home.
There is a definite sigh of relief from Zoey when she sets foot on land again. Sea voyages are enjoyable, but she prefers solid ground. She spends the evening with Ian and one of her books, eating when she remembers to (likely with Ian's help) and generally taking it easy for whatever challenges they will face next.
Catalana mutters, "... ... I just want to see ... ... ... ... ... ride ... ..."
Mikani laughs as she leaves the ship. Though to her it's like leaving home. Pack in her hand she walks further into Stormbreak. She had been here many times and knew the Inn where they were instructed to go. She smiles as she gets the name and walks into the city. "Hey Zoey, Are we allowed to talk or is that fraternizing with the enemy?" She teases her friend.
Korka doesn't really mind boats, but she definitely likes being on land a bit better judging by the look of relief as she steps onto the docks and takes a swig of a flask that's at her side. When she sees Felix she nods and calls out, "Are you racing today? Or just here to quickly make some nails and hooks should someone need it?"
Catalana mutters something to Wash and laughs a bright gleeful laugh clearly happy to be home, even if she can't actually walk on land yet.
Having spent more of his life on sea than land, Stormbreak is not unfamiliar to Llyr. He smiles and escorts Clara from the boat, pointing out a few things in the event she has not traveled here before.
Clara leaves the Dauntless with Mikani and heads towards the Inn. She smiles and lets Llyr point out things to her that she hasn't seen before. She's been here before but its been a long time so the tour is appreciated!
Zoey glances Mikani's way and smiles brightly. "Trash talk is always allowed, and anything friendly will be viewed with suspicion," she replies with a wink.
Athaur see's to his crew, laughing and joking with them before unleashing them onto the port. He does make sure to keep a steady watch over the ship, but with plenty of time for people to be relieved. Only once everything is seen too does he make his own way towards the inn
The bright and warm spring morning dawns, when from the commons of the Inn comes the sound of horns to drag those not already wake from their beds. As the crews start to filter downstairs they find long tables set with everything one may want for breakfast... as well as a huge crate of Setarco oranges, this is Juliana after all. And the Lady herself sitting on a stool, pealing an orange and waiting for them.
Once all have their breakfasts and seated, she stands. "Welcome to Stormward. I am glad to see everyone made it safely. First let us all thank House Kennex for hosting us this year. Duke- Regent Aethan has been very generous to allow us to use his home as our half way point." nodding Aethan and the Kennex where they sit.
So.. what happens now? Right? We have three tasks that have to be accomplished here before you are allowed to cast back off for Arx. The two will be acquisition, the other.. well that is a bit different. One is to put in your return trip provisions. However you are each going to be given a pouch with silver and you can not use more than is in that pouch. You will have today to do this." she pauses looking over to the Kennex then back to the others. "You may have heard that last year, Isles Canines confiscated some of the provisions at one point and made the crews to half the trip on half rations. I give you all my word, I will not be sending anyone aboard your ships this year." Tyce, Juliana's half Eurusi shadow starts moving from table to table to set a redvelvet pouch of silver onto each table. Jules waits until he is down and looks to the others. "You have food and a return cargo to buy from your purse. You will need to decide the presentage you want towards rations, what towards cargo. Then who will be doing which part and send them out. You are going to need strategic in your planning because how well you do with your rations will effect how your return trip goes. And how you do with your cargo, will matter when you get to Arx, because the last task you will have is selling your cargo."

Wash puts on a disguise. He doesn't have to wear a fake mustache and a top hat. He chooses to do so. Probably the local merchants see right through the disguise, but in the interests of being fair, he doesn't want to apply to the history he has with local Stormward merchants in restocking the ship. He takes whatever portion Zoey gives him and makes it work. If that means they have to live on half-rations of salt pork anddried orange peels, so be it.
Is Aethan the most gracious host in the world? Probably not, but he does, at least, seem to know how to //be// a host -- somehow -- and while he's rather austere as he nods back to Juliana, lifting a hand to wave, it's as proper as would be expected. Once the challenges have been announced, and the decisions made about who is to do what with who, Aethan heads back onto the ship to situate the crew that isn't assisting with the provisioning.
Zoey takes her portion of the purse to the market to negotiate a deal for the cargo they would sell upon their return. Knowing the state of the market in Arx she knows what will sell and what there will not be sufficient demand for. She is sure to diversify though, given that there is always an element of unpredictability to it.
While everyone is out, Ian and Porter stay behind to guard the ship. Except they're doing more than guarding. "Let's see if I can still break into Aethan's cabin," Ian says to Porter. "We can leave the presents there for him to find."
"That's weird, there's one of two and two of three?" Porter sounds confused, but he's apparently fully okay with helping Ian breaking into Aethan's cabin while everyone else is buying and negotiating. "I'll kick the door in." No, bad, Porter. Bad.
Clara checked intellect + economics at difficulty 20, rolling 13 higher.

Catalana briefly leads Zoey to a different group of merchants. Ones that have small children running about their feet. She speaks to a few kids, handing out fresh fruit and asking their parents to help support Kennex with supplies. She promises loudly, "Any who help us today, Lord Wash will gift your children a day of sailing and a picnic at the nearby cove." With that, Zoey is inundated with supplies
Rosalind checked perception + agriculture at difficulty 20, rolling 3 higher.
Ian takes out his dagger, slips it into the lock, twists, and CRUNCH. It's not exactly lockpicking, but those locks are pretty cheap anyway. Easily replaced. "Alright, it's op --" A familiar tread makes him look towards the deck. "Shit, he's back already."
Though he has spent most of his life as a sailor, being born to Nightgold in Stonedeep means being raised i the ways of farming, not just for food, but for making things...like whiskey. Llyr doesn't forget where he comes from, using that knowledge to find good and sustainable rations for the return trip.
Aethan is, indeed, back, though he hasn't yet caught sight of his brothers apparently BREAKING INTO HIS CABIN. Instead he's very busy doing other ship things, whatever those are. He definitely knows what they are, don't worry.
"Damnit, why is he so efficient all the time?" Porter grumbles when Ian catches sight of their older brother. "Quick, quick." Porter ducks inside of the cabin, with the pouch clutched to his chest. He heads straight to-- "Gods, what's the best place? The desk? Or on his pillows?" The decision is Ian's. He begins yanking books out of the bag.
Mikani takes the silver and looks around. One thing she learned as a Thrall and then as a Voice of a house, where to get the best deals on the best things. So she gives lists to her crew so that they can look into what they need to do. Ripping the paper in half separating rations from cargo contacts she passes the lists off.
Well--The leggy redhead from Stormheart starts going through the rations, dividing and such. Rosalind's worked with less you know and she looks pretty content doing it. She grins, looking up,"I don't think food fights will be going on this trip..."
Clara first takes count of what is on the ship already, carefully writing down what they have and weighing it against how many people are going to be on the ship. Once the remaining Cargo is accounted for, Clara heads out with her portion of money and buys anything that needs resupplying. She doesn't let people mess around wit prices, she has what she needs on paper and she has a certain amount she can spend. She sticks to it and returns to the ship when she is done.
"Desk," Ian decides. He's already at the door, being the slowest of the two of them, he's giving himself the most time to get away. "He might not see them on his pillow, but he'll definitely see them on his desk." Because Aethan sleeping is not a certainty, but Aethan working DEFINITELY is.

While Ian is by the door, Porter hurries to Aethan's desk and arranges the books on top of whatever looks like the most IMPORTANT documents his brother might be working. Once he's satisfied with the arrangement, he nods and grins broadly. "Okay, I think we're good!" then he's scurrying (for a big giant man this looks ridiculous), out of the cabin. Hopefully before Aethan sees them.
Ian broke the lock, but not the latch. Hopefully Aethan will forget he left his door locked. He rapidly finds Important Business that has him lingering near (but not too near) the office door.
Oh, right. Porter lingers nearby too. He's drinking and looking extremely innocent.
Abellus checked perception + intimidation at difficulty 42, rolling 12 lower.
Ian and Porter manage to make their escape before Aethan actually sees that they were inside the cabin, but he does turn around in the direction they are in right about when they're making their way out. His eyes narrow as he regards them both, his head tilting back. "What are you two doing?"
Athaur hefts the bag of silver in his hand, feeling the weight of it, letting it clink around in the bag. Then he opens the bag, doing a quick count of the coins in there. He had some skill in managing funds and handling logistics. Being a Head of House, it was something important for him to know. Or at least so he thought. Unfortunately the red of his eyes and the way he squinted at the light did not bring much faith for him. He grabbed a bit of parchment and a pen to start sketching down the idea for how funds shall be divided between supplies and cargo. "Felix, I shall leave you in charge of the Cargo. Vano and Abellus, work with the crew to get our rations sorted out and loaded up." He scratches his pen across the parchment, though he winces in pain. Apparently he had spent to much time celebrating the night before. He hands out the orders to his crew before pinching the bridge of his nose and working on his hangover.
Felix, for his part, is highly unfamiliar with the city - and while his name is known in certain quarters, it doesn't lend much weight to the acquiring of supplies here in this city. Still, despite the hardships, he uses what silver he was given to good effect, and acquires as much as he can with his own percentage. There is hope he won't be sucking orange rinds by the end of the trip back - but there is also the realistic expectation that has him ready for such.
"Just helping to tally the cargo as it comes in," says Ian, who absolutely does not have the patience or skill with numbers to do cargo tallying.
Vano grunts softly at the instructions from Athaur, looking a little unsteady on his feet himself. Were there stories of drinking games the night before? Surely not, for anyone from Riva can ALWAYS HANDLE THEIR BOOZE. Always. The Lord does, however, just grunt and trudges off, shouldering Abellus in the process, "S'go..."
"I'm waiting to pick things up," Porter informs Aethan, flexing one of his arms for Aethan. Is he impressed? Is he convinced?
Abellus waits to hear his orders, and then heads out with Vano to help with the rations. On the plus side, he's really good at carrying heavy things, and has a very great desire to be helpful. On the...other side, what he considers to be helpful is, um, not always so. He points out things which look as if they would be good deals, and waits solemnly, arms crossed, behind Vano, trusting his kinsman to do all the negotiating. Surely, Abellus only looks like a threatening mountain of Rivenshari who is glowering at the good townspeople of Stormward, if one is choosing to be uncharitable. ...At least his frowning skills will come in more handy when it comes to making the crew hop to and put things away. Right?
"Hm." Does Aethan believe any of that? Hard to say. Probably not. Of course, his expression doesn't really change, but it does look skeptical. For him, anyway. However, he lets it go, and instead just says, "Thank you for the demonstration." This to Porter, before Ian gets an equal eyeing -- because yes, he has never been mathematically inclined.
Once Aethan is out of eyeshot, Porter looks to Ian and nods. They definitely sold this.
Ian is also not so great at deception. His expression is mostly like it usually use, but there's an unmistakable glitter of Up To No Good in his bright blue eyes. He nods to Porter and gives him a thumbs up.
It's a busy day in Stormward.. and it's possible that some merchants were paid to from behind to make it a bit more of a challenge than it may have been. No not even Wash or Vano's glaring would get them to budge. But as with breakfast when the crews find them selves back in the Inn later that night dinner is laying in wait. It's not until they are done eating and relaxing that the Lady Igniseri shows up and with he come a large barrel that is set up and tapped.
Jules waits, smiling to them. "So I hope you all had a productive day and have your ships stocked and ready for tomorrow. But first we need to get through tonight." she looks back at the barrel then back to them. "So one of the first things I learned as a girl in Setarco was sailors come with a variety of skills. Once is their ability to drink.." she arches brows at the others. "Now.. in this task, the Captain is going to choose three crew members.. and well...we are going to see who is standing last. Captains or First Mates need to choose wisely. But do not need to drink themselves."
Mikani laughs, "Well Jules ... I think I can finally show you how much I can drink you under the table. I do have some Northerner Everclear ... you feeling lucky?"
Mikani drops
Exclusive Farhaven Cold Shot Alcohol.
Mikani gathers those that are willing to drink. "Well ladies and gents ... let's see who can drink with the bravest ...." There is a bowl brought out with ice in it with capped shot glasses. "First you have to brave the cold. Then you have to get a shot with your mouth ... then you have to stomach the drink. After that the one with the most drinks wins."

Chased off the ship with Porter and Wash by the rough side of Aethan's tongue (probably), Ian angles for the bar. "Someone's going to have to carry me home at the end of this," he mutters as they go inside. He drinks the first shot of rum like he has absolutely no idea that he's drinking cheap drain cleaner. Rum is rum, right?

Clara looks at this alcoholic beverage that plagued her just a night or two before. She crinkles her nose and then takes off her cloak. With that she dives her head into the water and grabs the cup with her teeth. She comes up and tilts her head back so that the alcohol slides into her mouth. She puts the shotglass down and gets ready for another.
Zoey comes to the bar to cheer on the men of her house and sip a glass of wine. "Clearly we need to have more parties then," she tells her brother-in-law. "Consider it training."
Catalana glances between Wash, Ian and Porter and indicates they'll need three rooms for the night.
Athaur looks over at the rum, clearly prepared for the challenge. But then he winces at the sight of it. Clearly still uneasy from his drinking the night before. He moves to Vano, Abellus and Felix, clapping them all on the shoulder. "It's alright boys. You will do us proud. I'm certain of it."
Mikani has left the Toska -- Longship.
Damien Pierce - A Charming Assistant, 1 Redreef Warden, Vagari The Cinder Cat, 1 Order of the Firebird, 2 House Crovane Guards, Biorna - The Protective Mastiff leave, following Mikani.
Abellus rolls his neck and cracks his knuckles. Just how this is supposed to help with -drinking-, who knows? "Alright, let's do this," he says, as he tugs a seat out at the bar, and settles in for some drinking for Great Justice. ...It doesn't take long until dunking his noggin into the icy bowl of Farhaven distillation also seems like a great idea.
Abellus checked stamina + survival at difficulty 20, rolling 17 higher.
Someone's handing Vano booze? STRONG booze? He flashes Athaur a wild grin and winks at him, "No worries! We got this, just like we did last night!" Which may or may not inspire dread before plowing his face down into that ice. Its booze-hunting time, clearly.
Felix is not one for heavy drink, typically - and would normally have begged off for the offer of his aid in this endeavor. "I will likely be the first to start the bawdy tavern singing." after he downs the first of them, and winces at the taste, managing not to retch completely, but certainly not enjoying it.

Rosalind ventures over and grabs a shot of rum! Or well--more than one. Maybe a tray..And before you know, Rosa is not standing at the bar so well. It's more like a drunken lean. She's slurring and talking, talking and slurring,"Hey you. I bet you could take hair, on your head, and you know--cut it..I know a guy that could use it,"smiling as she talks.
Clara gets
Exclusive Farhaven Cold Shot Alcohol.
Wash knows better than to let anyone near his hair that isn't a trained professional. "You are drunk." He tells Rosalind having performed terribly at drinking underwater himself. "I think it went up my nose." He said at one point coming out of the freezing water.
Catalana comes over to Wash with her handkerchief and begins to wipe down his face as she laughs at him. "You did brilliantly."
Rosalind snorts at Wash,"I--may be only a LITTLE drunk,"pinching her fingers closely together,"but I AM a professional." The red reaches for her dagger, that she BARELY knows how to use and grins at him,"See! I even have something to use!"
Abellus makes a 'come at me' gesture to the tender who's keeping everyone plied with rum. "Keep it comin'," he says, rather evenly, though the deep inhale he takes and the brief pause to make sure both feet are on the floor as he stands show that he -is- properly enjoying the alcohol. He stomps over to where the icy bowl of shots is and shoulders his way in toward it with the confident friendliness that comes from being inebriated. He slams his face into the bowl, grabs a shot glass in his teeth, and knocks the shot back, catching the glass in one hand and swiping ice-water off his face with the other. "S'pretty good!" he says, to anyone within earshot. He sets the glass down, gives it an approving nod, and stomps back to the bar to resume drinking rum. He has no idea if he's winning or losing this round, but he's certainly enjoying himself.
By the time the drinking is done, there's a flush to Ian's features, and he's probably not feeling the cold of that ice water much, but otherwise he doesn't look all that drunk.
"That's not even sharp enough to cut your own hair." Wash tells Rosalind.
Juliana disappeared sometime early in the evening, leaving one of her Captains and Tyce to watch the contest and make sure that nothing untoward happened as the teams drank themselves to unconciousness. Ian being the last of the drunks standing.. all would be moved to their own beds when it was over and of course there would be breakfast waiting the next morning

Catalana eyes Wash and Rosalind with a fair amount of skeptism. "I do miss when Wash was bald." She explains as she sips her rum and looks accusingly at Porter. "Fire accident."
Llyr has left the Toska -- Longship.
"I bet it isn't sharp enough to cut your hair." Wash says. "Looks dull to me." He's not above manipulating a drunk woman to do something she regrets. It's been done many times to him in the past.
