It has been, if only so far, a pretty exceptionally good week. Great week, really. The potential for a project that I never dreamed might be something that could happen? Might actually happen. Despite some distractions (not that I'm complaining) that lead to a couple of swords that had to be scrapped, I forged a dagger that was the best work I've ever done my whole thirty and then some years. Now I just need to finish the two blades still open on the commission board.
As well, my dearest friend/platonic wife Joscelin gets to realize a dream of her own, for which I could not be happier! That Oliver, though. It pains me a little to admit what a treasure he is.

I have heard people wonder of my whereabouts recently. It is true that before I became Duchess I was a veritable social butterfly. I attended all the masques, soirées, dances, picnics, and gatherings I could possibly attend. Then something happened and I began to change.
It has been a good change. I think back on how different my life would have been if X or Y happened. This is where I am supposed to be. I work tirelessly in order to provide for my people and my family, so that I may leave something behind for Leandro and Celeste; something my children could be proud of.
Most importantly, the number one reason I've been a recluse? It is still Winter and still soooo cold outside!
It has been a good change. I think back on how different my life would have been if X or Y happened. This is where I am supposed to be. I work tirelessly in order to provide for my people and my family, so that I may leave something behind for Leandro and Celeste; something my children could be proud of.

Bliss Whisper and Luca Grayson put on a glorious show today at my duel with Princess Saoirse. Since her champion was victorious, I have publicly apologized to Saoirse for taking offense at her interplay with her cousin, and she accepted my apology by quite rightly pointing out that the whole thing was funny.
There are just a small handful of posters left that didn't get taken, which I am not sure what to do with . . .

I know that I should - that I should write something terribly meaningful in my journal that will last years and be read by curious Scholars long after I've been returned to the Wheel and had a second (or third, or more - who knows? I'm writing this from the Embassy of the Nox'Alfar. I am currently sitting at a table with two hundred legs. I counted. Twice, to be sure one of them didn't move while I wasn't paying attention. They do that, these legs, if you don't watch them carefully.
I was knocked out of the Champion's Tourney yesterday, to Lady Joslyn. She saw an opening I left, one I should have known better than to, and it's done. I'm out. Congratulations to her, but it leaves me now wondering: what next?
I have so many things to get done. Things which have been on my plate for months, in some cases. Tonight, after my next duel (don't worry, the stitches will hold), I must be productive, must recover from the time I spent last week doing less work than usual.
But for now, I sit here in this lobby, in the only place in Arx that really makes sense to me on an intuitive level anymore. This place of utter chaos, free from expectations, from chains, full of life and humor and fun and everything, everything, always lived to its fullest. Where the value of a good sulk is understood properly, so long as it is followed by a burst of life and intensity and change, always change, always something new, always things and people being pushed and stretched to their limit, seeing what they can take, seeing how they will surprise you.
Time to figure out how to set this City's spirit alight again. I'm getting bored.

I heard a saying today:
"The hotter the brewing, the sweeter the ale."
I understand that it's a metaphor about love. It means that the more people go through together, the stronger the connection is, the connection in this case being 'love'.
But the question I have isn't about the meaning, but about the literal phrasing. To put it to the brewers that read the Whites:
Is this true? Does a hotter brewing making for a sweeter ale? Does it change the flavor profile at all if the temperature is different? Is this why ales purported to be brewed in the warmer months are plied with berries and fruits to enhance the sweetness? How does it work?
So far, I've had no definite answers. I'm still waiting.
