Reading what is being written about Princess Coraline, to whom great respect is due, makes me reflect on how progressive House Kennex is among the Island houses. Nearly a decade ago my sister Renatta was made admiral of the Kennex fleet. Not long afterward Jan Kennex was named the general of the Kennex Corsairs. Much has been said of the Kennexes, but Stormward has never been a place lacking in opportunity for those who seek it.

Where has the time gone? It's been going faster than I knew. Snow has lain on the ground for some weeks now, and soon spring will come. I've not seen snow for some time - we sailed south to avoid the worst of it - but spring will be a very welcome sight indeed, and I'm glad I'm not sailing in this. Lines and sheets are painful enough to haul before the ice adds blades to them.
I believe it may be time to make sure that Blackshore will have what it needs in time for a good spring festival. Parties, events and socialising are, after all, a part of what Skye asked me to do for the Barony, and I see no reason that should all happen in Arx where our people can't attend.

Sometimes I think things happen for a reason. Sometimes I do not. As much as I try to stay positive, there are times when I just can't go that route and have to just sit and stare out a window.
Today was one of those times. I found myself plain glum and perhaps a little lazy, and spent half the day staring out of my window leading to the lovely view of the brick wall outside my shop. I had to redo an Aeterna piece because the material was so tricky I stitched it wrong and thus, a new gown was born. This one is a good piece, in my opinion, but I will not give away more, dears. You will have to wait and see.

Relationship Note on Coraline
All honors to Princess Coraline Thrax on her knighting. Her road to the life of a warrior was very different than mine, and in many ways more fraught. No one ever told me I should not lift a blade or protect my people, and that the battlefield was not my place. I cannot imagine that life or what I would've become in it. But she persevered anyhow and has gained skill and an understanding of chivalry that any could be proud of. I've no doubt she'll be a credit to her oaths, her people, and the Compact in her service, and I look forward to fighting by her side should we be called for it.

Many have strong opinions about the Inquisition, and at the time of this writing their reputation is improving from what it has been in the past. Still, truths must be recorded and so to that end It should be documented that the current Master of Questions, Prince Laric Grayson, continues to hold property that I gifted to my brother some seven months ago.
I've done well for myself, I was able to leave the life of the sellsword and find a craft, thanks to Kenemir's tutoring. Being one of the best lederers in the biggest city in the land has offered me a comfortable life. And so in my comfort I sought to help my brother who is not blessed with my talents or my luck. He's still a sellsword and, love him as I do, that is all he may ever be. So at great expense I invested in his future and he was gifted a very fine ax. The kind of ax that gets a man work and gets him paid well.
He's a rough man, and he's been in some fights and things, that's no secret. The Master of Questions suspects him for a crime committed over a year ago. So the Master of Questions (But apparently not answers) is holding this ax as evidence. This ax, that wasn't forged or gifted until half a year after the crime that they want to pin on my brother.
My brother is many things, but he can not, as far as I know, travel through time. No one can. Therefore, I have to wonder what reason Prince Laric Grayson really has for holding on to that ax, when it is clear to any man with any level of mastery over questions, that it can't be related to the crime.
Are we taking a step backwards now? Is this how corruption starts? Will my goods and wealth be safe from the Inquisition's reach?

When the Crossroads Casino was built, Lord Amadeo and I discussed the Crafters Guild renting out a portion of space to showcase one-of-a-kind items and objects-of-art. As the rental agreement is indefinite, he's helping me break in the space with a fashion show to celebrate some of the greatest Crafters in the city, as well as some budding hopefuls eager to showcase their beautiful designs and growing talent.
I'm excited to see how it turns out! It'll be a chance for prospective patrons to look at potential proteges and for existing proteges to strut their stuff and stretch the talents.

I look back at all the events I've attended and hosted, and realized my favorite of all them was the Menagerie Masquerade. It was just a lot of fun, raised funds for a good purpose - which was to revitalize the Menagerie - and I could be whoever I wanted to be underneath the mask. It opened doors to new friendships and new relationships that I wouldn't have had otherwise.
Though this year, I'm hosting it for an entirely different reason than to rebuild the Menagerie. It's for the gardeners who lost their lives doing what they loved and how they lost their lives is a mystery that we will not let go unquestioned. Also, the Lodge of Petrichor has come under attack recently, a project I assisted with was trying to fortify it and build it stronger and safer for those who use it. The funds will go into ensuring we can continue that work.
Hopefully people will have as much fun with it as the first time we ran the masquerade. It's in a different location of the Menagerie this year, though we're prepared with canvas walled tents, lots of hot coca, and plenty of firepits to keep people warm throughout the event! That or the guests should need to use the dance floor to keep themselves warm. I recommend finding a superb dance partner for the evening too!
Most of all, I'm excited to see the masks and the gowns! So exciting.
