Rum is not as good as brandy, but it can be improved on in a pinch. I came up with this my last time in Stormward. It is called a Minty Nik. A small handful of mint leaves. Two lime quarters. A cube of brown sugar. Delicately smash everything so as not to tear the leaves. Add as much rum as you feel you need. Stir.

The business is going... surprisingly well! I've gotten commissions from a bunch of different people, and business is generally pretty steady. I think I can make a regular income out of this as I teach myself my crafts. I'm going to focus a bit on improving my woodworking skills as well as my talents as a clothier as these seem to be very popular. But as to what to specialize in... who knows? I have the rest of my life to decide that. For now, I must learn!

The little rubber ball that Prince Barric gave to Atila was doomed for a short life. Once Tempest discovered it both he and Atila playfully fought over the thing. There are little bits of torn leather everywhere. I am pretty sure Tempest also ate a few of them. Nothing in the manor is safe from him.

Bathe in hot water. Have a delicious luncheon, then take a nap in the middle of the day. Spend some time with a book you haven't had the chancr to read. It is a lovely summer day; go for a walk with your dog and tell anyone who asks you to do something you're off duty.

I confess: As a voice of a ducal house, I am not one much to travel to the Lower Boroughs.
But for my friends in House Riven (and at the prodding of my wife, Monique), I made the journey. The Riven Brandy that Guardsman Calaudrin prepared was quite something. A strong proof and with the taste of fresh pears picked straight from the trees, I would say that it is a true gem among the liquors that are found in the Crownlands.
As I feared, my coin purse was lifted during the event. And yet it was returned by the end.
Hm.

Tea is a simple pleasure.
Hot leaf water. That's all. Different varieties of leaves, often mixed with spices, herbs, or even dried fruit, but still: hot leaf water.
Aside from the flavor and the comforting warmth, I think what I most like about it is that it transcends class. The poorest of the poor can boil water in a dented old pot over a small fire, having bartered for a handful of dusty, crumbled tea leaves with a pilfered trinket. Lords and ladies indulge in the finest black, green, and herbal teas, either cultivated in continental Arvum or shipped from the Isles, steeped at just the right temperature and poured from an ornate silver teapot.
I am most fortunate that in serving nobility, I have access to the finer things. But I confess that I occasionally miss the bitter pauper's tea, made palatable by just the tiniest pinch of cinnamon and cloves, and milk "borrowed" from the neighbor's cow.

I've had such a wonderful week. I've been able to spend time my family, I've met with old friends and made new ones. I've been to so many events and all of it has been positively lovely. The gardens are so beautiful too. I feel very blessed to be alive.
