It has been said that the world is dark, darker than it ever was before. It is true. Ever day brings new threats, new dangers. Yet we also have the light of the Gods shining brighter than ever. Were three not lost to us but a few years ago? Are we not now blessed with their champions, from Seraphs to Paladins? Yes, this new light now shines upon many monsters and dangers we were unaware of. But now we can confront them, now we can stand tall and fight.

The world is dark, but we are casting aside the veil that kept us helpless, bit by bit, till we shall be the ones they fear.

The expedition was successful, though we paid the price in blood for the blow delivered to the enemy. Still, with not a single death to be mourned on our end, it was a trade I'd do again in a heartbeat.

Every time I go out on those forest scouting missions, shit gets weirder and weirder. Tainted men and dogs, I swear are getting bigger and uglier by the day. Least I didn't end up with set of broken ribs but the others didn't look too great when they finally got back into camp.

Took some guts to lead a crew into a fight like that, an abyss of alot more to damn run out ahead of the group as bait, and to keep on and fight those things. Glad I was with that lot for it; might not have gone as it did otherwise. Still haven't heard about the woman we found and her too girls-- should check in on that.

And before anyone else gets a chance to say a word on it:

That was _not_ running away. _That_ was a tactical retreat, under orders mind you. Not to mention it looked like the rest of the group were doing just fine. AND the fact I had a twenty-something in my arms had _nothing_ to do with it.

Relationship Note on Daemon

I was not aware until now that my protege is a masochist. At first, I had merely thought his giving into the temptation of sweets was an indicator of a weak will before the nefarious ingredient: sugar. Something that I could tackle, could work with him on, until such a time as he saw a tray of cookies, a whole cake or pie, and say, "No!" How foolish was I! Sir Daemon has plenty of will. He simply chooses to defy it so that he might endure the pain that comes after the momentary bliss. One cannot train this away, no matter how many morning walks one takes or how many lectures are heard concerning proper eating.

I am still uncertain how I feel about this revelation. So long as he remains in fighting trim, then I suppose that's all that matters.

Of course, it is also entirely his choice to eat whatever he damned well pleases.

It is by the rigorous training of the Oathlands that we Valardin are able to munch upon our favorite sweets while still retaining our athletic beauty! Yesterday I partook in a tray of cookies and as punishment, performed 100 squats and a lap around the ward. Next perhaps I shall try a cookie wrapped in bacon.

It is a life of pain, but the rewards are worth it.

Relationship Note on Alis

Alas, Princess Alis has discovered my secret and taunts me with it. I would love scallops, but I have made it these many months of my marriage with out consuming bacon. Truthfully it reminds me of the salt meat we eat at sea. I have no love for salted meats. I sure it will shock many, but when it is a staple of your diet on the water, you tend to crave sweeter flesh on land.

We will eat almost anything if there is bacon included in the recipe. I am sure you are shocked by that. Truly, utterly caught by surprise.

Bacon wrapped sea scallops? I think that's a thing. From somewhere.

Another quiet week. Had a lovely little dinner, I still firmly believe there isn't enough sea fare in the Oathland diet. I feel so heavy from rich meats. I believe I will have to cajole the cooks into adopting some Southport recipes. I find myself longing for a bit of adventure, I will have to find a reason to stretch my legs soon. Over all it seems like I am settling in and slowly getting to know my new family well. It's quieter than living with my cousins, I miss all the sparing, and my brother. I shall have to cajole him to come out and spar with me if only so I don't grow fat working on the navy and doing paperwork.

May your hopes find safe harbors.

That moment when you look at someone, or they look at you, and suddenly you feel like your heart has lit up.

That little spark that flows through you like fire. The one that makes you secretly smile.

You know the one. Gods, I love that.

Everyone should feel that.

Ripping dresses should be done as a joint project, in my view. Something flimsy and inexpensive may be worn for the purpose. Communication is key!

Archlector Madeleine, or Maddy as she asked to be called, seems to have an ever-present smile, is kindly and supportive. She is good company and has a lovely way of speaking of the winds and waters of Mangata.

You know, I feel that it should be commented upon. Ripping a dress is not just a crime against your family's bank account, but also on your own sanity. If anybody were to rip one of my dresses, what follows had certainly better be the single most mind blowing experience of my life. Even if it was, my forgiveness would only last until the glow wore off, and than it gets brought up every time we have an argument between now and death. Don't rip dresses, unless you are 100% sure she is into that. As much fun as it is, and as hot as it is.

Just not my seasilk, please.

Relationship Note on Delilah

I've had the pleasure of getting to know Lady Delilah Whitehawk better of late, and have decided we shall be good friends. It is strange sometimes, to live among silks while not being quite of them, and I feel she understands this as one not born to highborn titles. She is wise in ways I am not about threats we face, and brave in her studies to confront them. Also, she is quite fun to drink with.

*A picture of a cliff face that comes right up against the sea. Most of the cliff is plain, boring slate... but one part of it has a shimmering rainbow of opalescent colors. Standing atop that cliff is a strange, ghostly figure of a woman, dressed in a pearlescant dress, but seeming to be insubstantial.*
