Relationship Note on Arcelia

Lady Arcelia Saik.

She's pretty and speaks quietly, so naturally I didn't give her a second look at first. We all have a type, right? Of course, when the Duke introduced her as a Saik, that warranted a second look. Since when is Malvici producing vassals that... soft? Anyway, it turns out she's quite opinionated and can hold her own in a conversation, even when the drama is flying. To her credit, she didn't immediately take sides when I was was having it out with my sister, yet another point in her favor. I look forward to her beach bonfire party, though I suppose we'll see if I actually get invited.

Post script:

Sometimes, with men, their weapons don't perform. It happens more than you think and it's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, there are people that can help, people who's lives are -nothing- but about making a weapon work better for the person that wields it. -Or-, of course, replacing it with a better weapon. There's all manner of reasons why a person would, maybe it's worn out, doesn't hold up like it used to, curves funny but not in a useful way.

In these cases, it's always good to see a specialist. Personally, I recommend Hana Grayhope. She's quite skilled and has made most of my weaponry, several different kinds too. One was so well made, I gave it to a fellow soldier. He in turn used it on Brand and it served him quite well. if that isn't a recommendation, I don't know what.

Chin up, there, young man. You're more skilled than you think, it's all about experience and practice.

I've spent hours in the archive today. I think it's time to go find something to do before I feel compelled to make a tower of journals in an aisle.

I didn't realize all this time that there was a -competition- for who's been through the worst pain and has accumulated the most injuries in their life time! I wonder if emotional agony counts? Alas, I don't think it does, as I was told I know nothing of pain. -IN- the Training Center, to boot. By another knight!

He left in a huff. I hope he didn't hear me giggle at him. It's a shame too, he's a decent fighter, lots of potential, but I don't think I'll have a chance to spar with him again.

I ought to try painting again. The giant phallus I had painted into the palazzo was washed off too quickly. Perhaps I should make one with the bodies of Bringers, but somewhere Brand can enjoy it too. Maybe outside the walls?

Okay. Time to get serious for a moment. I've been an extra bad pain in the ass lately for my family. We're not talking about the sort of pain in the ass where you sit on a splintering chair. We're talking about accidentally planting your ass down on a bed of sharpened, yet rusty nails, with barbs. There's not gonna be any easy way to get up from that and you're gonna be feeling it for a long time to come.

I took a bigger risk than I should have. I didn't anticipate it affecting you all the way that it is. I'm sorry about that.

They say that blood runs thicker than water. I don't really care about that crap. It spills just as easily with the right tool for the job. People that are loyal and have your back? That's worth more. I've been so fucking worried about my family fracturing apart with Aureth joining the Faith and that Demon Knight trying to drive Fortunato away... well, now I'm the one doing the most damage.

You're one sexy fellow.

You got Mae Culler to tie you up, hit on you, and kiss you. Well-played, hotshot. My hat's off to you.

Mydas. The Voice of Nightgold looks amazing in umbra, I think his dark colors go well with that type of outfit. Those eyes of gold remind me of my jewelry that sparkles in the sun, very pretty. He seems to like to read books, is quite polite and handles a conversation by making it interesting for me which are all terrific qualities. That a northman follows the Thirteenth? Why can't there be more nobility that are handsome, smart and mysterious? I think I'll arrange things so that he'll have to meet me again.

Because a thing calls itself a god or its own font of power doesn't mean it is one. Lies are more easily swallowed when there's a sweet coating of truth, just enough to mask the poison it covers. I find truth is often far more hard to swallow. At what point will you finally say a line has been crossed? What won't you do for what you seek?

Nothing says 'FEAR ME AND TASTE MY WRATH YE MONSTERS OF THE ABYSS' like a necklace of hickies about the throat.

Honestly, woman. These do not count as wearing your favor.

I look like I've been pummeled by overripe plums.

It's rare enough that I receive gifts, but the ones I especially covet are the ones made by the giver. I suppose it's because I'm an artisan, others have told me they think I can do better. My temper is slow to build but I'll confess this gives me pause, a prickle across my skin because, dammit, it's about the care and time and thought that goes in creating something, especially for another. I wear most everything that was made and given to me, in honor of the thoughtful consideration put into every piece, bracelets, coats, all of it.

So now, I've a painting hung in my home, a portrait of my beastie, Mongoose, and it's a sharp left and sideways drop into the strange unknown of the mind, abstract in its presentation. Mongoose likes the fact that she's got extra limbs in the painting, and I love the time the painter took to brush in each singular hair, feathery appearance giving her a strange, mythological appearance, she sharp angle of her neck denoting a movement that's near terrifying.

I -love- it. And you can mock me all you like for my tastes, but they are broad and wide and diverse.

The Ebb and Flow always seems to attract the most interesting people. I wonder if I will find the same hanging out at other bars in town. I might try this as an experiment.

C'mon down to the Ebb n' Flow,
Where patrons come and patrons go.

Where if you sit, you won't take tea.
You'll drink rum if you drink w'me.

You don't need sugar, you won't need milk.
You can wear leather if you don't have silk ...

(Honestly, drinking songs were never as difficult to come by when I remembered how to be properly in my cups. The music is always easy. It's the lyrics that trouble. If anyone was of a mind to finish this properly so that I could sing the jaunty little tune, I would be extremely grateful.)
