Relationship Note on Samantha
The Marquessa of House Deepwood has given me a great honor in providing me with the means to wage war on behalf of the Compact. So before I march off to aid in the defense of the Seawatch Gate, it should be noted that I thank her for her generosity and aid in providing me the means to ensure that I can perform to the best of my ability on the field of battle. She has my thanks and I will make sure that her property is returned to her House promptly upon it no longer being a necessity that I possess it.

Went out into the field with the column under Lady General Calypso. She's damned good at this generaling thing, that's for sure. It was an experience, all right, even though I was back with the supply train working on repairs after every battle. In the city we've got nobles and commoners. Out there there's a lot less of that, but still a big divide between fighters and support. That makes a lot of sense to me. I don't know much about fighting, and them fighters don't know my business either, so it's better we don't joggle each other's elbow when dropping something might mean someone gets killed. Now the siege starts. I'll be sleeping in the forge, I guess. When someone needs work, they'll need it right away.

Relationship Note on Frederik
Count Frederick Steelhart is a hard man who knows all to well the cost of honor and loyalty, but he is a man who's counsel I have always valued. When I was a boy I would sometimes refer to him as 'Ocean Arn' and would promptly be scolded by my father for it.
He is the kind of vassal ever leader needs though. Utterly unafraid of telling me when I am being a dumb-ass, yet brave enough to stand by you through thick and thin despite it. He is crass and ruffles feather's easily but he is a good man.
An 'I told you so' is a small price to pay for someone that has your back even when they want to slap you upside your stubborn head.

After the dust is settled and the fury of the battle fades from memory, I find that after it all... I am still me. The world continues on, and the touch of a loved one still sends the same sensations as it did the night before. Remembering what we're fighting for... it's so very important to me. I hope that we can have it all. That once this is all over I can return to my life, and everybody remains a part of it. I'll need that for a few weeks before the next world ending threat comes to light.

A friend of Juliet's that I had the pleasure of meeting. I don't know why it surprises me anymore that Juliet knows such well read and fascinating people, but it still does, every time. Despite her self deprecating nature, I find that she's quite charming and beautiful. I'll try to remind her of this when I see her next, as I'm sure that after all she's been through she could use the reminder.

I feel as if I should probably not be quite as comfortable talking with the Prince of the Redrain house as he makes it, but the big man makes it just too easy to talk with him. I have only met Prince Darren a handful of times, but he's been pretty easy going each time, I look forward to helping him and the Redrains out as much as possible.

A trusted friend and confidante of Juliet. Distressingly young to an ageing widow's eyes; troublingly close in age to my own eldest offspring, in all honesty. It is quite perturbing to think how soon they might be pitched into affairs of state. Well, in all honesty it would be perturbing were they merely to be in line to brave the courts of the Lyceum and the broader Compact. But nowadays? The prospect is more than a little daunting. Yet observing Joslyn reminds me that competence and confidence can indeed go hand in hand, even among those who now look so very youthful to me.

The Marquessa has been a boon to the people under her fledgling watch, from those who have been part of the Compact for generations, all the way to those who have just bent the knee.
