Relationship Note on Max

Count Darkwater's assistance over the last few weeks has been invaluable, I do not know if I could of done it.. well, I probably still could of, but not half as well, if it were not for him. And while I do miss Redrain, it is good to know that I have allies within the Thrax and Maximilian is one of them. But we're not done yet. I hope we can pull this off.

Less mess than usual. Might say calm before a storm, but I'm not Thrax.

I have come to the conclusion that I am not a jouster.

It was a fun tournament, though. I just ... am going to be soaking in that bath place again. Soon. Ow.

I'm so used to twists and turns in this damned city that it's a curious thing when things just... work out.

Relationship Note on Fiachra

We joke sometimes, about being shadow and light. But I find it fitting in many ways. He is there whenever I need him. Behind me, beside me, in front of me - it all depends on where we are. I can shed the rank and the title and the demands and the expectations; I can drop any facade and just /be/. And like a shadow he can obscure me for as long as I need, and then step back out into the world refreshed. We compliment each other in so many ways, that I have no doubt we will be formidable as life partners.

Things are going absolutely crazy in the city. Crime is at an all time high. Crazy, unexplainable things are happening. Now, I hear that there is an army coming to the city! We may soon be under siege! I admit that I am terrified of what might come. However, I will do what I can. For a short while, I have ceased taking clothing comissions so tht I can focus on helping Halsim and Count Darkwater on various projects.

Well I lost in the first round during the joust; not my best performance, but truth be told I do not ride horses very often. Poor Damascus may need more exercise, but the Valardin stables I got him from have raised him well.

I lost in the Melee, too, but not without a good fight with Lord Killian and Master Sparte on my side. I am proud of my men - there isn't a more resilient lot out there. The Compact is in good hands, whether it cares to acknowledge it or not. We will defend the city to our last breath.

I cheerfully had informed the Lord Commander that should he win the joust, he definitely should put that prize alaricite dagger carelessly down somewhere very unguarded. What a beauty it was. Donated by Princess Lark, I heard.

I lost every single one of my bets to Duchess Sylvie. It'd been ages since I had sat down with her and I'm not regretful in the slightest. She proved excellent company. But really. Who would've imagined that the Horse Whisperer would be that adept? Well, I suppose the name gave it away, eh?

I wasn't able to stay for the Grand Melee, but there was certainly skin to see for all despite the weather. I heard Sir Roland came through triumphant at the end. Would that he won when I had bet upon him the first time. Tch.

I will get better. I was pleased with how I fared in the Melee, but I will continue to improve. All in at it proved a fun, if painful day. Still, the best lessons are etched in our skin and today I learned many. My combatants were my teachers and it was a privilege to cross blades with so many fine warriors in Arx. I don't think I shall try Prince's Luca's method of defense any time soon however.

And so it ends. Former High Lord Donrai Thrax has been laid to rest. Purified by the flames of a funeral pyre, words said over him by those of the Faith, his ashes should be heading out to sea to be scattered across the waves where the tides can carry them to the furthest shores.

An era has ended; that of High Lord Victus has begun.

Of all the gifts complete with a satin bow to receive, I think the precious little feline I was given is by far my favourite. I woke to find the most beautiful seal-point face watching me from the foot of the bed, with a gold ribbon about his neck and blue eyes wide and curious. The name, I decided, must suit him in elegance and charm and so I have called him Vashti. Such an intelligent creature and my favourite company while I am busy working, though I wish he would keep his little paws away from the ink pots.

I adore him.

As a child living just outside the village of the Saikland Greens I made a small pilgrimage every week from the age of seven to when I left my home to travel. Every three days without fail I would go with my older sisters on the back of the cart to the village and while they tendered wine to the taverns and the market I took a small collection up a winding path to the Saik's Castle kitchen. I have not made that trip in many years but I can still picture which stones on the path were loose, and where the steps begun near a peach tree that blossomed beautifully but never yielded fruit.

For the past months I have found a new path, albeit a far shorter journey now between the Ward of the Crown and Southport Square, that I make every three days. I do not take a crate of wine with me, only a single bottle and two glasses and rather than the kitchen my little pilgrimage ends at the Saik Tower gardens. I know the cobbleroads well, but there are no loose stones and no peach tree to warn of stairs, only the marble faces of late Barons and a whisper on the breeze.

My favorite pipsqueak is all grown up. I think it was the double date that clinched it. And obviously all my brotherly advice to Alis. Yes, without me this engagement never would have happened. You're welcome shorty.

Relationship Note on Fiachra

Prince Fucking Fiachra. Who'd have thought it. I know you're not there yet, and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to say it with a straight face, but I'm glad for you. I'll have to find a suitably flouncy shirt for you. I have no worries for you though, wherever your life may take you. You, more than any other, will always know the way back home.

Relationship Note on Eirlys

Your path is one tangled with thorny brambles, descending into deep valleys, and climbing to the mountain peaks. I think that you've come to me - in all my lacking experience and wisdom - more than anyone else to be the shaman I am meant to be. I try. I am learning by you how to be what I am meant to be. I watch your highs and your lows, and I watch you cut your way through the brambles...I have no doubt that you'll overcome them all and be stronger at the end for it.

Relationship Note on Laric

It is unusually gratifying to have a quiet conversation with a thoughtful and intelligent gentleman. Prince Laric seems to be very insightful, and I value his thoughts on matters serious and grave -- and his sense of humor on the same is equally appreciated. Once again, my good opinion of House Grayson is reinforced.
