Relationship Note on Dominic

The Prince of House Thrax encapsulates it. He is rough but he has lead a rough life; he has edges formed by all the cuts he has taken. What I found noteworth is that his wounds weren't suffered; they were inflicted, and then he has moved on past those. It is a powerful trait that he still has command of his emotional faculties as well as his mental ones - I just hope I can give that man what is long due him.

A river of blood and justice.

Get into the city, know there's shit going on outside the walls, but you can't walk half a block without hearing about some story out of children's books coming to bite us in the ass. Some demon-cursed shavs in numbers, elves galavanting around the city and a tension in the air just ready to burst. Might be able to make some good coin in the coming months.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

You'd think after all these years, I'd learn that fighting brings out a person's true self. Just some sparring and drinking done with this guy, but he's another guildy and fights for the right reasons. Namely fighting and fucking. Think we're going to be fast friends, we are.

Relationship Note on Zhayla

She's a bit too much for the honor of it all, but she fights like a demon and drinks like a knight on duty. Still, she's got the skills and if you've seen that smile when she's got that sword of hers in hand, well, you just know you gotta recruit her. Haven't been back long, but probably earned a bonus on my next Champion sponsored duel after getting her into our guild. It's not all about the coin. It's about the fighting too.

It's odd..I never knew I had a sister until recently. Then once i found out, I was desperate to meet her..to learn about her. I had no idea that I was already seeking her on another matter, in her official capacity..and then I actually do meet her, and it is nothing like unto what I expected it to be. Aislin warned me that she had turned her back on the family, but it's more than that, it's as though she has become a mobile statue..devoid of emotion or care. Whatever the case, it is clear that she has no desire for reunion, though I can hardly see why she would hold a boy who wasn't even ten when she left to blame for whatever happened. Either way, it is clear that my sister Avary is as lost to me as when I did not know she existed.

And yet it has caused me to think and consider, and realize that while I have neither brothers nor sisters of my blood..I have gained a sister whom I cherish and would do anything for, and who I know cares as deeply for me as if I were truly her younger brother. Aislin is the only of my family I had any real contact with during my travels, since she was so often outside the city..but beyond that, since my return she has made me welcome. She has guided me and cared for me, comforted me and defended me. She is all at once all of the things that neither Addison nor Avary ever were, and I treasure her for that. I am uncertain of many things in these dark times, but I know at least that I have a place where I belong and am loved, with her.

Relationship Note on Zhayla

A very small woman with a very large sword. Not a very good horse tender. Or...groom? Whatever they're called. Samantha has assured me she is competent. Very competent. I'm considering taking her out into the field with me, especially if she is familiar with the Gray Forest. She seems a refreshing sort and, I'm sure, a fierce warrior. We shall see.

I have somehow convinced Lark to spend a day away from the estate, perhaps on the beach, to relax. She suggested I invite Alarissa as well and I am sure it will be a wonderfully proper and book-reading sibling reunion. Yes.

Relationship Note on Denica

A sketch. A small, pale woman with dark hair is alone on a small boat with a small sail, seated by the rudder. Her face is bright with a mixture of hope and excitement. The great gray-dark gather of clouds above her and the great gray-dark of sea below her do not dim that expression remotely.

Strange. Through various associations, most of them quite wonderful, I've ended up with a fair sheaf of notes about current events that between commissions and my own feverish tendencies, I have not had much time to sort through. I imagine others may have more power to do the practical things with such information and I will make an effort to be more open in needful things. Reserve is a luxury, sometimes.

Relationship Note on Deva

A sketch. A young, green-brown snake is coiled on top of an old trunk, its long ago-demise clearly natural. Trees come, trees fall. Sometimes, their falls are gentle. The snake's mouth is open, its teeth nearly transparent, but the impression is entirely that of grinning enthusiasm. The sky behind it is fire-bright.

Relationship Note on Tristan

I will say this much on the behalf of the Royal Stable Master. He is dedicated to his work and takes it as an affront when he perceives anyone assuming his duties. It is admirable and I can only hope that many more sworn to His Majesty will showcase such commitment.

Mad times call for sharp axes. We are not bending the knee to our enemies. We are only getting stronger to slay them.

I probably have no cause to write this, but it's something I've been thinking of, and maybe I ought to put it to paper.

If you ask me, maybe when they find whoever it was that killed Prince Donrai, they'll know something about what's happened to the Grand Duchess Esera too, or the other way around. And I'd start keeping better watch on the other High Lords and Ladies, if I was captain of their guards, just in case. Or maybe it's the Dominus that ends up poisoned, next thing you know.

Not that I know much of politics and treachery of this sort, and I'm not saying coincidences don't happen. But it sure is a good trick for the enemy, when they're right at the doorstep. Maybe they expected folk would start fighting over it, and that's not happened yet. They did in the Thrax ward, from what I hear, but that's just their way, and it looks like they're done with that for now.

Nobody appreciates the Artiglio sense of humour, it's true. We're a rare species.

We're, however, probably better off that way. People can barely handle Blacktongue and I in the same room.

Loss. It can take on many forms. Some loss is temporary, a fleeting thing. Some is far more permanent. All will leave it's mark upon the heart and mind, and hold a place in history.

This week, we have lost much. The Grand Duchess, my dear friend, has gone missing. I believe in my heart that her absence will only be temporary, if only because of how much love she has left behind. I would do anything to ensure she is returned safe and sound - we are bonded by will, after all, and move forward together in friendship.

And then there was the loss of the Stone's Grove. This sacred and solemn space, which once held so much history and promise, gone in an instant. I do not lay blame upon anyone for what happened there, and only seek to move forward and see it brought back to life once more. I think this loss will be temporary too, and hold hope that I'll one day again be able to take my morning stroll out onto the lush greens.

I just received a shipment, crates, from my sister Ianthe. And a few letters, things to forward along.

I'm scared.

And I'm also laughing.

Is this... is this sand, at the bottom of the crate?

One of the crates had holes. There was a kitten squeaking in it. It's very chubby and has white toes. It's currently sitting on Mongoose's head.

These look like pressed flowers. I'm actually wondering if they aren't gizzards of some animals. They might be. They're quite colorful.

...that's a book on erotica. Oh. Oh my.

Lots of clothes. Black leather. Lots of black leather.

So many other books.

Oh, Ianthe.

Could you not fold these before sending them?

Or washed them?

Come back safe, so I can scold you for this. And love you.
