I was very encouraged by how well the 'Command Course Competition' that Princess Alis and myself hosted turned out. There was not a bad performance among the lot. Even those that did not complete course, did so with a certain panache, as the came up short because they had pushed themselves to try and score a better time. The eventual victor was Lord Eos Saik a man that continues to be exactly what I expect, and yet, completely different from what I assume of knight of the Lyceum. He was victorious showing some impressive veteran instincts.

The Duchess Nadia Nightgold was just as impressive only gave up victory to Lord Saik in a tie breaker run of the course that could not have been any closer. It really lifted my heart to see so many people tackle the challenge not just with skill but creativity. It made me feel better about our future. I mean yes it was mostly a silly game, but seeing the way everyone rose to the occasion, each in their own unique ways, it made me feel hope for how we will navigate the challenges on the horizon for us all.

I needed that, badly. My heart has been heavy this past week, hell my heart has been heavy since? well it has been said enough so I won't repeat it here. I can't possibly find and thank everyone that competed or just came to watch and cheer the other night, so if you happen to be browsing the white journals, and you come upon this entry, please know you have my sincerest gratitude.

Relationship Note on Isabeau

My cousin, Princess Isabeau must have the strongest pinky fingers in all of the compact. They would have to be with the peerless way she keeps us all wrapped around them. That has to get heavy after awhile. Hyperbole notwithstanding though, I am very glad she came to the City of Arx. The courts are hazardous waters and she swims them as comfortable as? some aquatic creature that is majestic and a good swimmer, like a dolphin or an otter. I hope she will be willing to help our family on the battlefields where the pen will be the greater weapon than the sword.

Relationship Note on Dagon

Idealistic, kind, but not without a political bent. I will have to remember that about Prince Dagon Thrax. Regardless, I thought I saw some little interest in my cousin, perhaps? And she in him.

Dear journal. Today I ate porridge.

I doubt anyone would find fault with this entry.

Relationship Note on Donella

The Voice of Thrax is not at all what I imagined. She is well-reasoned and thoughtful, and I appreciate that in any lady. I could imagine her doing just as well in the silks of the Lyceum as in a room filled with the stone crosses of the Saffron Chains.

Relationship Note on Leo

This man's temper may be worse than Lord Valkieri's for less of a reason. I have heard so many good things about Duke Leo Fidante-- His bravery, his honor.

Now I am not surprised I have not heard anything about his intelligence. Child and serf, he may call me, but I name him little better than a bully.

Relationship Note on Salazar

So I meet Lord Salazar the other day. It was an experience. I was in the Trader's Tavern, enjoying a dark cider and he stormed into the tavern and accused me of dishonoring his cousin, a Lady I have never met. He even drew his sword at one point. Eventually he received a message from the cousin in question that it was just a joke and from what I can gather from his comments she thought it would be funny for him to meet me in such away. While it spoiled my thirst for a perfectly good drink, I cannot fault any man for wanting to defend his family with such fervor. Clearly he is man that cares deeply for family and that speaks well of him.

He might want to have a long talk with his cousin though. I am not necessarily qualified to make this diagnosis but I think there is a possibility that she might be a bitch.

There has been far too much packed into this week to retell it all with any coherency. Meetings and letters, acquaintances more properly made for better or worse, planning, and in between it all a little time to catch up with those family and closest of friends what I can't allow to fall to the wayside in the midst of the whirlwinds.

If there was a single stand-out point, it is Prince Edain's contest. He is a most generous host. At a time when Arvum wants for a leader, it was a lift to morale to see a demonstration of so many exhibiting the quality. Mistress Delia Whisper's contribution was a much needed reminder not to forget how to laugh while we tackle our unsettling future.

I came away from the contest with a remarkable new blade in Oathland steel made by Mistress Ida's skilled hands that I will be proud to have on my belt.

Relationship Note on Margot

Lady Margot is polite and well-spoken, with quite a strong mind. Our conversation was a good reminder that a decision shouldn't be made without putting some thought behind all the options available. I look forward to meeting her again sometime.

Relationship Note on Prospero

I don't particularly know the nobleman that well, considering I only just met him - but he gave a good first impression. I wouldn't be against socializing with Lord Fidante again.

Relationship Note on Prospero

Lord Prospero.

Fidante.

Well, we cannot all of us be perfect. But for a Fidante he really is quite charming. Dare I say, even a bit handsome, in that distinguished gent sort of way.

Oh, who am I kidding? I don't much care what House he belongs to. It was my great pleasure to have finally made his acquaintance. He brandishes words nearly as well as I brandish a sword. Clever, witty, and a gracious host. I hope that Perry and I can grow to become friends.

A girl can never have too many friends.

I have to wonder if there is something in the air. The past week or two have simple seemed off and while I'm certainly prone to bouts of reflective reclusive-ness, I suspect I am not alone in such feelings. Maybe it's a path Jayus nudges we artisans upon, now and again, to remind us to get out and see the art of the world rather than hole up all the time making it.

Even with that, I'm rather pleased with an interesting blade His Grace, Prince Edain, requested made. I tend to worry more over the items he commissions, because I'm unsure I could stand to disappoint someone who has done so much for me. He often asks for something different, something I've never designed before, and this time was no different. I am grateful to Jayus for guiding my mind and hand so well and hope the weapon is received well.

Relationship Note on Audric

I've met a man in Murder of Crows and after one glass of wine we could consider each other friends. He is a very interesting person who knows how to make his companion smile. He also has many marvellous stories to tell from his adventures. I hope to hear more of them in the future.

The evening has fallen on Arx at last. I'm writing this in the gardens of the Grayson Estate, somewhere that I am loathe to spend too much time lest I grow insensitive to the colour and the beauty of the place.

I had gardens at my small manse in Lenosia, of course. Vineyards too, though they produced nothing remarkable when compared to the wines of that stunning land. But they pale in comparison with the gardens in the courtyard at the Grayson Mansion. If you can imagine a plant, it probably exists here somewhere - some long forgotten and others newly planted.

I really must commend the work of the gardeners, those unsung heroes that create such wonderful landscapes and picturesque areas for contemplation and peace.

I have been tasked by the Voice of House Grayson to meet with the Grand Duchess of the Lyceum.

This task, of course, comes with the obvious benefits of spending more time with those I am far closer to than my kin. I admire the Graysons dearly, of course, however having spent so much of my life in the courts of the Lycene houses, including in the court of two of Esera's predecessors one cannot help but be drawn back into that world when the chance arises.

Perhaps I will have a chance to find some decent wine after all.

Relationship Note on Dawn

I did not expect that my first meeting with little Dawn would be lacking in moments for us both to roll our eyes and groan at the state of the world, however I was pleasantly surprised to see the strong woman that Lady Dawn has grown into.

While young, Lady Dawn does not display any of the tendencies of the young. She is neither restless nor headstrong, and maintains her decorum under some incredibly trying circumstances. Perhaps I am being wistful in my dotage, but I fully expect the young Lady to serve as an example to our House in generations to come.

Relationship Note on Sophie

I love my sister dearly; she is a beacon of light and hope to our entire Household. I must confess, I love her even more because she has not followed the same chivalrous path that so many of our family follow. I fear that she may one day renounce our House and become Godsworn, but I dare not speak these fears to her; I only want her to have the opportunity to follow her heart and do what is best for her. She will always have my support, even if I cannot always agree with her.

Young Dawn is my great niece. An incredible asset to the Grayson house and one I am most happy to be of service.
