Lizette, a pretty buxom barmaid arrives, following Valencia.
Zoey orders a hot cider brought to the table before she tells her husband, "The last time I was here, I had to step up on a table and offer one thousand silver pieces to get anyone to compete with me." (ooc: fixed errors)
Tescelina lowers her hood upon entering the Golden Hart's arena. She must be present for some competition, dressed in her silvery armor with its hints of violet here or there. Short-cloak slashed across frame. Rapier and dagger upon her hips. She reaches up and brushes her ponytail aside, features muted. Radiant and distant, like the moon, the knight of Wyrmguard steps forward and stands near the sidelines for the time being.
Sydney makes her way into the arena of the Golden Hart, her head held high, but absent a spring in her step. The commoner is dressed in a hodge podge of an outfit, black leather coat wrought of supple exotic leather, and the rest... looks like it's nearly in tatters. Conspicuously, there's a huge gash opened in the woman's leather shirt, bandages shown below. She turns a remorseful look down at the fighting area, holds a hand to that bandaged side, and instead makes her way to the bar. Syd straddles a barstool and raises two fingers, flashing a good-natured grin to the bartender on duty. "Two whiskeys. The cheap stuff. Don't bankrupt me on that top-shelf stuff."
3 Black Fleet Reavers arrives, following Viviana.
Sydney has joined the bar.
Jaq, a solemn looking assistant, 2 Kennex corsairs arrive, following Evander.
Ian seems to have come early, possibly to get a jump start on the drinking? Or possibly to be sure he can call dibs on the corner table? Either way, he's here with Zoey, pouring a glass of whiskey for himself from the bottle the waitstaff have left on the table, while engaging in quiet conversation.
Settling into a seat beside the Kennexes, Sanya smiles warmly at the familiar faces, removing her veil to get an unobstructed view from the stands. "Lord Ian. Lady Zoey." She greets, kindly.
Sanya has joined the corner table.
Clad in her armor, trust blade on her hip, Adalyn enters the arena and finds a perch out of the way as she waits for the event to start. Still bandaged from her attempt at the Rite of Gloria, she seems not quite in tip-top shape but doesn't let it show in her movements.
Lisebet slips in quietly, gets a drink and raises her glass up in a toast. She waves a hand at those she recognizes, as she looks for a good seat from which to watch.
Tesha enters with just one guard this evening, the ever trusty Cora. She finds a seat where she can see the fighting that will happen, but doesn't seem to be waiting for anyone. She smoothes out the skirts of her dress and settles herself into a seat, giving a nod of greeting to those that she knows.
Evander Kennex hasn't been seen too much in public of late - the snowy winter weather and his wracking cough into his scarf by the entrance probably accounts for that - taking a moment to get his breath before he ventures further inside. With a clearing of his throat, his gaze alights on his cousin and Zoey, heading directly towards their table.
Evander has joined the corner table.
With a rustle of scarlet southern silks, the little vixen arrives, her smile bright and her step even as she move through the vast Arena of the Hart in he gallant company of the northern prince known as Rastifer Redrain. A gentle bow of head and smile is offered to all as she makes her way to table at the side of the ring.
Valencia claims this! Eeep!
Ian nods to Sanya when she joins them. "Should I have the staff bring you a glass?" He nods towards the whiskey on the table, while saying something else in a lower voice. Then Evander shows up as well, so he makes a vague gesture that might be intended to include his cousin in the question.
Dressed in bright red that absolutely advertises her house, Sorrel heads over to the corner table where the Mourning Islanders are and sits down without ado. "Kennexes. Lady Sanya," she greets.
Sorrel has joined the corner table.
Tescelina folds her hands behind her as she studies the room, quiet from her place. Gallant in that attire of hers but nonetheless possessed always of that lilt of sorrow which settles in her misty cyan eyes. Her features retaining that doll-like, empty expressionless mask. There is a cup of tea within reach, still warm. Though after her slight sip, she seems to simply want it nearby, rather than in hand.
Merek makes a way into the place!
Evander gives a grateful nod of his head towards Ian. The fact that he does without looking at the man's glass probably says a lot. "Thanks, cousin. Lady Zoey. Lady Sanya," a nod is given for each, carefully, half pushing to his feet as Sorrel joins them. "Princess Sorrel," is added solemnly.
Sydney glances up from the bar as Adalyn makes her entry. She palms both shotglasses of whiskey and makes her way over to where the other woman has settled. "Lady Clement - or do you prefer Adalyn? I lose track of the titlecraft, I admit." She offers one of the shots of whiskey in her direction, "Do you partake?"
Ian motions at the bar to catch the bartender's attention, and then points to his table. The message seems to be received, as a small stack of glasses arrive shortly thereafter; the staff are used to Ian's open door policy (open chair policy?). The point is that they've seen him call for glasses for new guests enough times to know to just bring a whole bunch over.
Stalking through the Golden Hart, Viviana lifts a hand to rake through her hair as she stops at the bar and waits to flag down the bartender so she can order something to shake off the chill of the weather outside. Leaning into the piece of furniture as she waits, the Sword of Setarco scans the large room with her single eye. A bare hand comes up to wiggle fingers in a little wave at Tescelina before she reaches for her glass once it's poured.
Viviana has joined the bar.
A newcomer is soon to enter into the arena in order to spectate in the evening's festivities. Scipio Whisper steps into the arena, his cloak pulled tight to his shoulders and still carrying flakes from the snow which falls outside. His eyes sweep quickly around the interior of the arena, and then he moves promptly toward the bar. Coincidentally, he steps up to the bar bear Viviana and orders himself up a glass of brandy before offering a dip of his head in greeting to the woman.
Scipio has joined the bar.
Dressed in sultry southern silks that embrace enticing curves and slender waist, Valencia gracefully moves to the center of the Ring of Valor.
Offering a bright smile, she holds up her hands and graciously inclines her head to the arena. "My lords and ladies, misseres and madams, dearest friends -- welcome to my Hart. Thank you for joining us tonight. We are so very happy to have you with us."
"This evening, we offer you an exciting tournament of exceptional skill, fine drink and excellent company," she continues with a warm glimmer in her large dark eyes. "We hope that you will enjoy all we have to offer and thank you for your continued generous support of our charity and for making The Hart such a vibrant and welcoming place for all of Arx."
"And now, if you please, the ring is ready to receive. Drink deep, fight hard, cheer loudly and enjoy the evening! Competitors, if you would please take to the sands!" she invites with a respectful bow before slipping off the sand to again take her seat.
K The Hart's Sergeant at Arms moves back onto the sands and rumbles out the call, "Noble lords and ladies, gentles all, Lady Tescelina Wyrmguard and Lady Adalyn Clement are called to the sands! May they fight with honour and heart. Sir, madame, present yer arms and at yer leisure," he says with a gruff grin, briskly bowing to each as arrive and ready themselves. A moment later the excited crowd roars with approval as the Sargeant calls for the fight to begin!
Adalyn turns toward the sound of her name, expression brightening with recognition as her gaze settles upon Sydney. "Oh, Adalyn is just fine," she assures with a wave of her hand. Not the most proper of ladies anyway, this one. She flashes an impish grin at the brawler, mischief dancing in her bright eyes. "You bet I do. Thank you much!" She tips the glass back, straightening up as her name is called. "Here we go!"
Adalyn wields defiant garnet roses of steel blade.
Tescelina's eyes perk at the sight of Viviana. She raises a hand, waving in reply, with a secret smile. But her name is thus called and her attention is drawn toward the sands. A fleeting look to the Sword before she moves to meet Adalyn. A curtsy offered, pinching the half-skirt that resides over her trousers. "M'lady," she greets and then draws her rapier with a brilliant sheen. "Let us honor Gloria together," the knightess salutes, taking a readied stance.
Tescelina wields Starlight, a luminescent rapier with parrying dagger.
Sydney smiles, and offers a tilt of her glass back in a toast to Adalyn. "Adalyn it is, then. Fight well out there - and don't overdo it." She offers a flash of her teeth in a fiercer grin, and retreats back toward the bar to drink whilst she watches. This match has her full attention.
Evander takes one of the glasses, and sips a small amount. Even so, there's a brief coughing, head turned into his scarf, a bit of color returning to his features as he does so. He refocuses as Valencia begins to speak, though doesn't show any recognition of the names being called.
Tesha has joined the raised seating.
A fight has broken out here. Use @spectate_combat to watch, or +fight to join.
Waldemai calls down from the rafters, "A thousand on Lady Tescelina! Are there any takers?"
"For Gloria," Adalyn responds, bowing respectfully to Tescelina as she steps onto the sands. She draws her blade, gaze settling upon her opponent as she watches her movements and begins circling.
"Come on, Lady Tescelina! Go Wyrmguard!" Sorrel calls out from the corner table in the least princessy way possible, grinning broadly at her cousin.
Ian passes out glasses to anyone else at his table who doesn't have one, pouring a generous splash of whiskey in each. But it's clear his attention is getting pulled towards the sands as the fighters prepare to spar. This is probably his last social act for a while.
Stepping from the sand, the little raven haired princess smiles to the warriors entering the ring, her dark eyes lifting to the rafters as Waldemai calls out his encouragement. Another smile is offered to Rast Valencia she rejoins the prince to watch the match, taking a moment to nod warmly to Scipio, Ian, Zoe and Evander in kind.
Viviana flashes a wide, hearty grin at Scipio in response to the man's nod of greeting, before she speaks, "Good evening." A fleeting pause, before she continues, "--Is that one of those Clearlake marmot cloaks I hear are all the rage these days?" The Sword's grin grows just a bit to accompany her question and she adds, "Very nice, either way." The start of the 'festivities' is quick to draw the Sin's attention though, and her one-eyed gaze strays in the direction of Valencia, the Sergeant, and then finally to Adalyn and Tescelina. The former gets a bit of an assessing look over, before Vi calls up to Waldemai, "Anybody who takes that bet is a sucker."
Scipio offers a smile in turn to Viviana where he leans against the bar. As she questions after his cloak, he nods his head before saying, "It is indeed. I won it in an auction that the Baroness of Clearlake was hosting. Thank you for the compliment, and it is quite nice. I do not know that I have had a fur cloak before that managed to be as warm as this." Turning his body to face Viviana more directly, he sweeps into a bow before he says, "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Whisper Scipio."
2 Kennex corsairs, Jane arrive, following Catalana.
Valencia has joined the ringside great table.
Rastifer has joined the ringside great table.
Tesha watches from the raised seats as people head out on the field. The redhead sips her whiskey slowly and gets ready to see how the two Oathlanders fare against each other.
With a flourish of the dagger in her left hand, Tescelina moves forward. Her boots skid the sands, moving in and then /back/ as Adalyn comes forward as though drawing her in and she finds the rapier's (blunted) tip waiting. The Wyrmguard Knight fights with a divine speed, her defense near impenetrable. Blocking attacks the fraction of a second before they're even delivered. This economy of motion allows her to take measured and precise thrusts with her sword. Each moves the hands of some invisible clock toward its final chime. All the while her features retain an expressionless serenity. Even in the end, striking that potent blow to Adalyn. When the signal is made to halt the match, she does not hesitate to lower her weapons. Already moving into a gracious bow.
Waldemai groans from the rafters. No one took his bet. There's a thousand out the window!
Catalana slips in after hearing the cheers. Spotting the Kennex brood she naturally heads that direction.
Catalana has joined the corner table.
Taking his seat at the ringside great table next to Valencia, Rastifer grins and leans forward in his seat excited about the beginning of the match.
Sydney regards both fighters and drums her fingertips thoughtfully against her cheek, near to one of her scars. She switches from whiskey to ale - easier to sip for prolonged periods. She frowns at the outcome of the battle, and her nose wrinkles as her favorite to win is held at bay. A click of her tongue, and she politely applauds.
Adalyn begins circling her opponent, her movements a little less flashy than they might normally be. Her piercing gaze is focused entirely on Tescelina, all else fading from thought. It's clear she's outmatched from the beginning, unable to even land any blows of consequence. In the end, the last swift strike of the dagger has her staggering backwards, hand lifted as she yields. "I could learn much from you, Lady. Well fought," she huffs, bowing her head as the fight comes to a swift end.
As always, a pair of the more agile barmaids make their way up to the rafters with pitches in hand to see that Waldemai, and those sitting with him, have all that they need. The crowd cheers excitedly, the arena being split between the two ladies upon the sands.
The match has begun far faster than Valencia can accept the wager. "I shall be happy to meet your wager upon the next fight, Missere Master Waldemai. WIll you accept?" she calls up to the seats in the rafters as she accepts a sees to Rastifer's drink and then her own with a happy smile.
Waldemai calls back to Valencia. "I'll bet a thousand on whoever's first into the ring, your highness, unless they're fighting Princess Reese. I never bet against her!" Yes, it doesn't matter who...the bet's the thing!
Ian watches the match with his usual sharp, all-consuming interest, his eyes intense, moving constantly. He only seems to remember that there are other people at his table once hte match is complete. He takes a glass from the stack on the table and slides it over to Catalana. Whether she'll want some of the whiskey in the bottle also present on the table is up to her.
"You might if it was an archery contest and I was her opponent," Zoey laughingly calls up to Waldemai.
"A Whisper, is it? Well, well, it is a delight then, I am sure," Viviana muses as she eyes the man after his bow. The dark-haired woman inclines her head slightly before offering her own introduction, "Lady Viviana Pravus, the Sword of Setarco. Among other titles." The fencers gestures vaguely, and dismissively, with her free hand. Who cares about those. Lifting her glass for a sip of the hard liquor within, her attention strays back to the ring for a few moments, watching the two ladies within.
When the bout draws to a close, Viviana sets her glass aside atop the bar so that she can bring her hands together to clap. "As magnificent as ever, Tescelina. And you performed admirably, Lady Adalyn," the Sin calls from the bar, as loudly as she needs to to be heard across that distance. Glancing back to Scipio, the Sword wonders, "Do you specialize in any specific arena, as a Whisper?"
Tescelina rises from her bow and sheathes her weapons slowly. There's a cant of her gaze and a slight smile. "It was my pleasure. Every such contest makes us stronger." There is a look toward the cheer of the crowds and then focus landing on Viviana and her words with a pleased bob of her head. Cheeks faintly warm. This is a lot of attention. She didn't think this through. But now that its finished, she stands there, hands folded in front of her, for just a bit too awkwardly long. Maybe waiting to be told to leave or if she should stay. After a second, one of the attendants makes a forced cough, and the Wyrmguard knight hastens from the sands.
Having shaken the snow off her cloak in the earlier rooms, Korka strolls into the arena like she's a regular, heading right for the bar so she can take up a seat that gives the best view of the fighting, but also the door. She sits with her back to the counter, leaning her elbows back on the bar and likely into the personal space of those sitting nearby, green eyes scanning the crowd, "I'll take an ale, whatever's your newest blend," she tells the bartender.
Colette slips in to the Arena, doing her best not to draw too much attention to herself at first. She crosses the room to speak with Valenica, but not before dipping in to her polite curtsy, "Your 'ighness. I would like to sign up for this if that is ok. If someone would like to test their 'and to 'and skills that would be perfect for me, if not, I suppose I could try my 'and at fighting someone with a sword, although I will not be using one."
"I would say social endeavors as well as investigative are my specialty, but then again I suppose all of us have a knack for socializing," Scipio says with a smile and helpless sort of shrug to accompany the expression. He studies Viviana for a moment before he grins and says, "I had thought to send a messenger in regard to your latest classified listing when I returned to the city. But I am afraid that I am a few inches too tall to fit the billing." He grins at the final bit before hiding that smile behind his glass of whiskey as he takes a drink.
The crowd rises to its feet with wild cheers as the Hart's mercies rush in to see to those in the ring. Not necessary this time, but all are to be cared for in the Hart. The cheering continues well past the time Lady Tescelina and Lady Adalyn have stepped off the sands.
With a curt nod, the Hart's Sergeant at Arms returns to the sands and calls, "Lords and Ladies, gentles all, Princess Sorrel Thrax and Prince Rastifer Redrain are called to the sands! May the fight with honour and heart. Highnesses, present yer arms and at yer leisure," he says with a sharp bow before calling them to fight and briskly sanding back to monitor their match.
Rastifer has left the ringside great table.
Rastifer has joined the ring of valor.
Tesha has left the raised seating.
Catalana goes to reach for the whiskey, but Sorrel is called and instead she applauds loudly for her friend.
Sydney clenches and unclenches her fingers, making a fist and then loosening it. She leans both elbows back against the bar, sweeping her eyes from Tescelina to Adalyn. The commoner looks grumpy, but at least when Korka makes her way in, it distracts her from whatever she was thinking. She lifts a hand in recognition. "Korky, wasn't it? Evenin'." A jovial grin.
A clap for the two competitors by Sanya Grimhall as they depart the ring. "Well fought, my ladies." She grins.
Rising from his seat, Rastifer bows to Valencia before stepping onto the sands with s grin. "I do hope the match turns out well, Its my first time doing such a thing."
Colette has joined the bar.
Rastifer wields Wicked Sooted Black Steel Long Sword.
"Prince Rastifer, I so hope that you give me a good challenge, for Gloria's sake," Sorrel says as she rises from her own chair, wearing her red Thrax armor and looking as much a princess as she does a swordswoman.
Sorrel wields Resonant Edge, a lightly curved diamondplate saber.
"Very true. There's always something to be learned," Adalyn responds, inclining her head once more to Tescelina. Hearing calls from the audience, she studies the crowd gathered until she pinpoints the origin and nods respectfully to Viviana. She makes her way off the sands with haste as a new pairing is called and moves to rejoin Sydney. "Well, that was quite the trouncing, wasn't it?" she remarks with a wrinkle of her nose and a faint grin.
Tescelina has joined the bar.
Colette joins the bar, giving a curtsy to those present and ordering a tea.
Tesha was watching and having a bit of a break, but now a messenger approaches the woman and she reads the note. She then rises, heading down from the seats to slip out quietly and not to interrupt things. Cora follows after her as well.
Ian watches the sands with interest as Sorrel heads that way.
Colette waves to Adalyn from across the room.
Zoey cheers as Sorrel enters the ring.
"I accept," Valencia calls up with a confident nod to Waldemai. "The first in the ring is yours, the second shall champion my interests," she agrees as she pauses to reply to Zoey. "And, yes, my dearest Lady Zoey, I think we might have an archery match if that please you well, " the little vixen smiles her way. Another smile is offered to Collete with a warm incline of head. "I would be so very happy to have you, my lady. Are you hoping to have a bare hand bout? If so, there is a lady here who would delight in such. Are you game?"
Waldemai sees who's in the ring first. "My money's on Prince Rastifer, then, your highness."
Cora, the optimistic telmarine leaves, following Tesha.
Sydney smiles, and shrugs her shoulders in Adalyn's direction. "...Some matches are rather more difficult than others. For what it's worth, I think you held your own, considering you're still on the mend. I daresay your form wasn't the problem, at least from where I'm sitting."
Sorrel has left the corner table.
Sorrel has joined the ring of valor.
Tescelina's path takes her from the arena and toward the bar. She stops, briefly, to dust off the sand from her boots. Its a small gesture before moving to slip beside Viviana. Removing her gauntlets along the way, she can rest her slender fingers against the Sword of Setarco's arm as a more intimate greeting. She notes Scipio and dips into a formal curtsy. "I am Lady Tescelina Wyrmguard. Knight and Voice of my House. It is a pleasure to meet you."
"Korka," The dark haired woman corrects Sydney, not without a smile tugging at the corner of her lips, "You're the heratic's wife, right?"
A fight has broken out here. Use @spectate_combat to watch, or +fight to join.
Aryka Wyrmfang have been dismissed.
2 Thrax Elite Guards have been dismissed.
3 Thrax Guards have been dismissed.
Korka's words prompt a bark of laughter from Sydney, and she frantically waves her hands. "Ain't nobody's wife. Don't go marryin' me off. No."
A fight has broken out here. Use @spectate_combat to watch, or +fight to join.
"Oh, investigating? My, my," Viviana muses in response to the Whisper before laughing heartily and grinning at the bit after that, "Yes, I'm uncertain I have met a Whisper without any social graces, as of yet. Perhaps I shall be surprised one day." When Scipio mentions her listing, the duelist laughs again and gives her head a shake, "Oh, yes, that /is/ too bad. But, if you find yourself with time to spare, I might have need in the future to hire you for your other talents."
As Adalyn finds her way closer to the bar, Viviana offers a friendly nod and grin to the younger woman. Tescelina's arrival gets a warmer smile, and glacing to Scipio, the Sin tacks onto the Wyrmguard's introduction, "And as you might have noticed, quite the talent with a blade. Or, rather, a pair of them."
Adalyn has joined the bar.
Korka has joined the bar.
Adalyn catches sight of Colette and gives a cheery wave in her direction. "Lady Colette, will you be competing today?" she calls inquisitively. Sydney's remark draws a look of gratitude. "Well, thank you. Each fight is a learning opportunity. I daresay the healers wouldn't be too pleased with me." She looks quite lacking in remorse, however. Korka is offered a polite nod as she joins the bar.

Rastifer is incapacitated and falls unconscious.
"Yes, it really is a shame. If only I were a few inches shorter..." Scipio laments with a laugh before he dips his head and offers, "Of course. I will be sure to keep you in mind. Though of course if you were wishing to reserve yourself some of my time, you would only need ask Lady Viviana." He smiles toward Tescelina as the woman curtsies and offers her own introduction, supplemented by Viviana. Scipio offers a dip of his head toward her before saying, "It is a pleasure to meet you. And yes, you were quite well fought out there. I am Whisper Scipio. The pleasure is mine."
Valencia watches the fight keenly, her breath held as the fight rages on, her eyes not drifting even as her Sergeant arrives to speak about who is next on the lists. The crowd enthusiastically cheers and yell filling the arena with a joyous and high spirited din.
Sydney offers a grin in Colette's direction. "More of a hand-to-hand sort? Anyone take you up on it yet?" She takes a sip of her ale. "If not, I'll have a go."
After a long fight with a great many misses and dodges, even when he connects Rastifer still can not seem to get by Sorrel's armor. Taking one hit after another, he stays standing far longer than he probably should finally falling with a heavy grunt. "I give, I give. Thank you for the match. I hope next time we have the chance to fight I manage to get some better hits in."
Colette turns to Sydney, "If you are wishing. I 'ave told the Princess of my talents. If you wish to compete with me I would be 'onored."
Valencia is overheard praising Tescelina: Elegantly fought.
Valencia is overheard praising Adalyn: A new face in the arena, but I suspect she shall be a great talent.
It's a long fight. Sorrel starts out by dancing around Rastifer, keeping her stance fairly conservative, making a bunch of feints and dashes here and there that don't do much damage. She's very light on her feet, and the dress she's wearing moves with her like it was made for her perfectly. The fight continues, and she starts to sing softly, even as she wields her sword, sparring against her opponent. It's a Hymn to Gloria, something familiar but inspiring. And then, when the Redrain prince has started to tire, she presses the attack heavily. It only takes a few blows to drive him down, once she's worn him out, and when he falls, Sorrel goes to help Rastifer up. "Well fought, my prince. You did very well," she tells him.
Waldemai sends a purse full of coins down to the hostess with the mostess. "An excellent fight and an excellent bet. Worth losing the money to see that one."
Valencia is overheard praising Sorrel: Excellent match and gracious winner.
Tescelina makes no motion to order a drink, content to linger near Viviana as she speaks with Scipio. The Sin's and the Whisper's compliments both incurring a wrinkle of her nose and some mild flush to her cheeks that lingers. "That is kind of you both," she offers in reply. Momentarily, her gaze travels to the arena to spy Sorrel's victory. She gives a very /her/ applause, though her heels rise in a bounce with some hidden excitement for her cousin.
Rastifer has left the ring of valor.
Rastifer has joined the raised seating.
Rastifer has left the raised seating.
Rastifer has joined the ringside great table.
Hamish has joined the bar.
Valencia graciously accepts her winnings with a gentle nod and a sweet smile. "Would you care to wager again, my dear Missere Master Waldemai?" she calls up.
Sorrel has left the ring of valor.
Sorrel has joined the corner table.
Exiting the ring, Rastifer joins the ringside great table taking his seat next to Princess Valencia once more.
The agreement from Colette turns Sydney's grin fiery. "Oh, wonderful. Well, in that case." She busies herself in the tedious work of beginning to remove the corded leather straps from her clothing, to make slipping out of her armor a bit of an easier endeavor when the time comes.
Waldemai waves his horn of ale. "Always, your highness," he calls. "If there's no one to fight we can race some of the pets and I'll bet on that!"
Valencia is overheard praising Rastifer: Excellent first match as well as a very gallant and gracious competitor.
Hamish wanders in from the cold, gnawing on a stick of sugar candy while talking to the Templar that follows him around everywhere. "...need to understand that the key is big hats. You have a big hat, you get noticed." He reaches up and touches his nose, giving the Templar a wise nod, then heads down to sit at the bar, turning to watch the show. When he has the server's attention he says, "I'll take a draw of whatever's on tap."
Cheers thunder through the large arena as the mercies hurry onto the sand from the side of the ring to check upon Rastifer. Once the prince and princess have departed the ring, again the Hart's Sergeant at Arms returns to the call, "Lords and Ladies, gentles all, Lady Colette Laurent and Mistress Sydney are called to the sands! May the fight with honour and heart. My ladies, at yer leisure," he says with a sharp bowing to each before leaving them to their match.
Colette takes a sip of her tea and sets the cup down on the bar. She head out to the sands gracefully in nothing but her usual rather conservative attire, having removed her boots and gloves. She stretches out gently. No sign of expression on her face.
Adalyn sets her glass down on the bar and swivels to face the sands fully. "Alright, Lady Colette, Mistress Sydney!" she calls, cheering for both competitors at once. She gives an unladylike whoop of encouragement as the pair head to spar.
Sydney rises, making her way down to the sands. She unwinds her bandana as she goes, exposing her short auburn hair, unbuckles the clasps from her armguards, removes her gloves, and upon reaching the sands, she dumps that all in a pile. She strips off her leather coat, shirt, and kicks off her boots. The shirt comes off last. She seems quite comfortable in ought but her smallclothes. She smile across to Colette, and reaches out a fist to briefly tap against her opponent's before backing up and assuming a fighting stance.
The Sword of Setarco joins in the applause for the most recent round between Sorrel and Rastifer, before she looks back to the Whisper and flashes a grin at the man, "I will certainly keep that in mind then. Information is power, after all. Or so they say, isn't it? I do even have a few matters I am curious about, but I've hardly the time, or knack, for digging up secrets." A pause, another grin, and she adds, "After all, there are people for that, hm?" Taking of sip of her liquor, the Sin leans aside to murmur something near to Tescelina's ear briefly, before pulling away and letting her lonely emerald eye stray towards the ring again. "Are they having a fist fight? How savage." The duelist even feigns a mock-grimace.
Valencia offers a warm smile as Hamish arrives, the candy the templar is enjoying giving a little study. Turning up, she smiles to Waldemai again, "Your call, sir. I have my wager at the ready,"she informs with a playful smiles as she pours Rastifer a deep drink. "You did very well, sir. Thank you for rising."

"Knock the h's back into her!" Korka calls out as the next fight begins, giving a nod in return to Adalyn, "Didn't you fight at the rite to Gloria the other day? You look vaguely familiar, as one does when one sees a person from about a viewing stand's distance."
Merek looks up from a beer he has with him, getting drunk again, while he offers a clap for those fighting, "Ya, you can do it Sydney!" he calls.

"Get her, Lady Colette! That's the way, Mistress Sydney!" Adalyn appears to be rooting for both competitors somehow, alternating praise and cheers between the two with conflicting effect. She nods to Korka in answer. "I did, fared a bit better there than tonight," she admits with a goodnatured grin. "You were in the stands?"

Tescelina eases close to return the private words with Viviana and touches her shoulder, fingers brushing as she slips away. A moment of a glance toward the arena. Eyes slipping aside. "I should return to the estate. It was a pleasure to meet you, Whisper. I shall -- see you soon, Lady Viviana?" She wonders as she draws back.
Sydney seems a little slow on her feet - something that costs her quite early on, and from which the fighter is not able to recover from. She takes a particularly rough jab that scatters her senses, and it leaves her wide open to Colette's unfamiliar style of assault. She pushes through with sheer tenacity, but things aren't looking good as her grin starts to show bloodied teeth.
Aurelio, a handsome, fresh-faced manservant arrives, following Dianna.
Colette fights quite a bit on the defensive side, allowing her opponent to open herself up. Delivering a few elbows and shoulders to the body to soften up the fellow brawler. Finally after quite a few exchanges, (not all of which go Colette's way), the Lady finds the perfect moment. Sydney's fist comes out. Colette Grabs her wrist and twists, dragging her opponents arm down to deliver a knee to the elbow, but not too hard, then sweeping her leg to drop her face first in to the sands. She twists Sydney's arm further up her back to lock her in place and says quite simply, "Yield?"
Korka nods again to Adalyn, although most of her attention remains on the fight, "I was, along with most of Arx. Perhaps you just do better with a bigger crowd?" She suggests, frowning when Sydney takes some hard hits, then her eyebrows go up when Colette takes the match, "Remind me not to comment on her accent when she gets back up here."
Sydney simply spreads her fingers and offers a raspy laugh, "...Not much of a choice, unless I want you kicking the back of my head. Yield."

Details are scarce, but word reaches Arx of a major battle in the Greenwood between some Compact forces led by House Greenmarch and two rival Abandoned groups. The raiding Abandoned forces were defeated at a place called Last Oak, an ancestral burial ground for House Greenmarch, and the Abandoned tribe that fought alongside of the Compact then offered to bend the knee. Oddly, they offered to bend the knee to Marquessa Mia Riven, which causes a great degree of consternation among Peers- it's highly irregular after all for Abandoned to bend the knee to begin with, really, despite recent events, but over a great geographic distance? That's just foolishness. They imagine it'll all get sorted out, and maybe the vassals will travel over to the Twainfort or some such, but it's quite odd, and some traditionalists tut tut over the lack of practicality shown by some of the newer peers. Well, it's probably nothing to be concerned about in the long run, really.

Hamish watches the two fight it out, wincing as the two go at it bare handed. "Usually when I see two people fighting unarmed it goes on for far too-" Then Sydney is in the dirt. "Ah, nevermind."
Dianna has joined the corner table.
Colettelets go and stands straight, offering a hand to her opponent to help her up, "An 'onor to be sparring with you."
"Of course," the Sword of Setarco answers Tescelina easily, flashing a wide, fond smile at the younger fencer before the Wyrmguard departs. Which leaves the Sin a moment to survey the aftermath of the brawl. In the end, she decides to offer a bit of applause for that match as well, before musing aside to Scipio, "So dreadfully uncouth, brawls. Still entertaining when they break out, though. As a witness, anyways."
Merek settles next to the ring, while he shifts his hip, his dark attire on him, scarf shifting about while he finishes his beer, looking properly drunk, waiting to see while he waves to Valenica, "I'll take the next match!"
Tescelina has left the bar.
Deimos, an enigmatic barn-owl leaves, following Tescelina.
Sydney grasps tightly to Colette's wrist and pulls herself up. "...Tricky. I might try to steal that. Thank you - it's always good to have a fight that's decided by skill, not by the amount of coin you're wearing on your back. And make no mistake, I respect ya for it." She makes her way stiffly over to her clothes, retrieves them, and vacates the sand.
Colette curtsies and leaves the sands, back to the bar. Back to her tea.
Colette has left the bar.
Colette has joined the bar.
Adalyn laughs at Korka's assessment. "There might be something to that. There's something about the energy of a crowd. My father thinks I'm a bit too much of a show-off at times," she admits. "He tries to keep me humble." The last remark is met with a knowing nod. "Best not. She's quite a bit tougher than she looks." As Colette and Sydney vacate the sands, she cheers them both. "Impressive match!"
Stepping into the Arena with her usual golden-haired companion (of late) is none other than Lady Dianna Mazetti, comfortably scanning the room and smiling warmly as she notes the conclusion of the latest spar: It is Lady Colette Laurent and a woman Dianna does not yet know, but - It seems Colette has won. She notes, as well, a few friends in the corner table and steps towards them, apparently pleased; she pauses to kiss Colette's cheeks and congratulate her as she heads there rather directly.
Ian looks up as Dianna approaches the table. There's a stack of glasses on the table, an indication that Ian (or maybe the staff) expected it to see a lot of people coming and going. He takes one of the glasses and pours whiskey from a bottle on the table.
Sydney rejoins the bar, and holds up her fingers. "Back to whiskey, please and thank you." Her chin thumps down against the bartop, and she groans. "...It's always the quiet ones."
Cheers erupt from the ringside tables to the rafters up high as the fighters step from the ring. A curt nod is issued by the Hart's Sergeant at Arms who returns to the call the next match. "Lords and Ladies, gentles all, Prince Rastifer Redrain and Sir Merek Black are called to the sands for a show of natural skill! May they fight with honour and heart. sirs, at yer leisure," he says with a curt nod as he moves back to give them room.
Rising from his seat once more with a grin Rastifer steps to the ring.

Rastifer wields Wicked Sooted Black Steel Long Sword.
Merek makes his way to the sands, while he takes a moment to roll his shoulders, then he nods a bit, "Your Highness, shall I switch to my steel, or...?" he asks. He does have pretty nice equipment on, and he seems thoughtful.
The Redrain Prince shrugs and gives Merek a smile. "You may use whatever you wish sir. I am here to enjoy a good spar and enjoy myself."
Merek wields Torean Nightsong.
Merek nods, while he unsheaths his Nightsong, which gleams with its black tone, the crystal within reflecting light while he shifts a bit of some padding upon it, then he takes a stance, twirling the longsword. "Alright!"

Hamish leans back so he can squint down at Sydney and Korka. "Think about it this way, Mistress Sydney. You did better there than you did on the Judgment Green two days past. So things are looking up already."
The crowds cheering only increases at Rastifer's reply and reasoning for joining the ring and louder still as the men prepare to fight. Glass held lightly in hand, Valencia watches with rapt attention, her large dark eyes quietly watching things unfold in the ring.
Valencia is overheard praising Colette: Truly a master of the sweet science.
Valencia is overheard praising Sydney: An excellent fighter and an excellent match.
Sydney picks up a salted nut and flicks it Hamish's way. "It's a fair sight less devestating when I don't lead off with an axe in my side."

Merek lifts up his weapon while he focuses, looking to the Prince. There's a nod, and when the fight begins he comes at him, testing the waters, sweeping his strikes in a martial stance, before he becomes more and more fervent. Blows strike at him glancing and shifting along his armor, while he takes a few hits during the match, he makes a sweeping comeback with a flurry of his weapon.
Dianna is overheard praising Merek: Bravo! Quite the spar.
Doing his best to hold up against the vigorous assault of Merek, Rastifer fights on the defensive getting in a few good hits in response to the many he receives in return his armor never quite holding up to the blows the damage quickly beginning to show as the fight rolls on.
Though beaned with a nut, Hamish gives Sydney a smile. "You should be glad I keep showing up to your fights. If things ever truly go south, I'll be in hand to put in a good word for you with the Mother."
Merek leans forward, and eventually he manages to best the Prince, waiting for him to Yield, "Great fight," he says, while he leans back from it, hearing the praise and looking about a bit, while he shifts the blade to the side with one hand, twirling it before its sheathed.
Zoey signals from the corner table for a server to bring another bottle of whiskey.
"A great fight indeed, thank you for the opportunity." Rastifer hold out a hand to shake, "I hope we might spar again some time soon."
The crowd goes wild with delight at the fight ends, each competitor offered great praise. Soon the sand is cleared and room made for the next contest.
Valencia is overheard praising Merek: Well done, sir knight.
Merek offered a gloved hand to shake Rastifer's, "A pleasure!"
From the corner table, Dianna spots Hamish and lifts a hand in greeting, warm smile gracing her lips. She calls out to Merek as he helps up the prince, "Bravo, Sir Black!"
Exiting the sands once more, Rastifer rejoins Valencia his movements significantly slower and more stiff than before.
Rastifer has left the ring of valor.
Rastifer has joined the ringside great table.
Sydney sits up when her drinks - plural - arrive. Down go both shots of whiskey, and she offers a satisfied sigh. She regards Hamish with a wry look. "...Should that day come, kindly bequeath my possessions and debts to the one who slays me."
Waldemai has finished his ale. He slips out of the rafters and disappears into the cold. After all, there's a nice hot forge in his shop!
Waldemai has left the upper rafters.
Merek bows, then makes his way to the place where he can move up to throwing, "I would like to throw! I uh, I'm alright at it!" He beams at that. YES. ALL'S FINE.
As the entertainment of the melee bouts in the ring seemingly winds to a close, Viviana finishes her glass of whiskey and moves to push away from the bar, slipping out of the arena and moving through the Golden Hart.
Viviana has left the bar.
3 Black Fleet Reavers leaves, following Viviana.
Evander appears to be nursing his single glass so far a looong time. Not much of a drinker.
Zoey has left the corner table.
Zoey has joined the ring of valor.
Ramona - A Guard in Ashford House Colours, Bigsby - A Thoughtful Looking Young Man in Nondescript Clothing, 2 Ashford Archer, 1 Ashford Scout leave, following Lisebet.
Catalana embolden by the little bit of whiskey she's had stands. "You know. If Wash can throw knives I can too." She gathers up her pretty lace and umbra gown and almost tiptoes to the ring. "I mean. How hard can this be?"
The sands are cleared and there is an excited buzz in the room as the fine mesh screen si drawn up to protect the crowd. A set of targets are set up and the sergeant at Arms calls the next contest. "A battle of accuracy and skills with thrown small weapons. Contestants, if you will take to the sands," he bellows out with a spark of a smile.

But in the end the Harts Sargeant calls out, "Lady Adalyn, 100; Lady Collette, 95; Prince Rastifer, 83, Lady Catalana, 77; Lady Zoey, 73; Sir Merek, 53 and Mistress Korka, 35. Well done! Well done, lords and ladies! Five move forward to the next round," he nod curtly and then turns to Merek. "Well done, lad. There's a drink waiting for ye at the bar," he nods then bows. "Next ROUND!"
Sydney leans across the bar to clumsily pat the spot next to Korka's arm. It turns out that an ale and 5 shots of whiskey have a quick enough impact when imbibed in short succession. "S'okay. You're - you're good at the other stuff. I tried something new, aaaaand I got an axe in my side and bled all over all of my clothes. The stains didn't quite come out." Merek looks to the one calling him saying he's not succeeded in staying in the competition, then he throws a few more, for fun, making his way to find a drink. He drunk, he takes another drink of his beer. Clearly trying to drink away something.
Sydney seems immune to Korka's judgement for the time being. The power of alcohol. Instead, she's quite content to grin, and raise another glass of ale. "Let it not be said I'm not... the best at makin' points and eatin' sand." She glances aside to Korka, "...I don't think you'd be good at throwing thumbscrews, either. They're way harder to throw'n knives."
The competition is close and fierce and they crowds cheer accordingly, save one collective gasp as a blade goes awry. The third round over, the sergeant calls out again, "Lady Collette, 97; Lady Adalyn, 90; Lady Catalana, 78; Lady Zoey, 44; and Prince Rastifer, 38. Well done, highness and ladies! As the difficulty increases, Adalyn still manages to land two knives in the target somehow, but the last one goes whizzing past it to the area beyond. Hopefully no unsuspecting spectators are lurking back there.
Zoey manages to miss her final target with all three shots. With a laugh she says Adalyn, "Well played!"
Sydney's cheeks are flush with alcohol, but it doesn't stop her being able to bob her head to Colette, "...Name's Sydney. No surname worth botherin' with or continuin'."
Adalyn grins widely at Zoey. "Thank you, that was enjoyable. You've got good aim!"
Evander's far too well composed to show any anxiousness when an increasing number of the knives go off-target. But he does down the rest of his glass when the competition finishes and the winner announced. "Congratulations," he says softly, clapping, before pushing to his feet. "I should be getting back."
With that, Zoey leaves the ring and returns to her seat beside Ian.

The final round is started in silence. The crowd allowing the contestants to concentrate, though there are gasps as some of the blade fly wide. When done, the audience explodes with cheers for the great show, causing the sergeant to have to call out even louder than his usually booming voice. "Lady Adalyn, 16 with a total of 402 points and Lady Zoey, -16 with a total of 262. Lords and ladies, please join us in congratulating tonight's Champion, Lady Adalyn!"

The cheers draw a look of absolute delight from Adalyn. She catches sight of Colette amongst the crowd and casts her a look of amusement. "Thank you! I'm in good company. It's always fun to see so much talent on display!" She turns to bow to Valencia, a gesture of gratitude to the hostess.
Valencia is overheard praising Rastifer: Well done! Always charming.
Ian braces himself on the table and pushes to his feet. End of the evening for him, it seems. He takes up his cane and, after waiting for Zoey to rise and nodding his goodnight to Valencia, heads for the exit.

Dianna busses Sorrel's cheeks and murmurs in her ear, then curtsies formally to the princess. "Always lovely seeing you, Princess." Dianna smiles fondly at Catalana, "We must plan that tea, my lady."
