I can tell you truthfully of all the objects I have removed or observed being removed from the posterior of patients over the years I have been a healer, only three of them have been sticks, and of those three none were from the Oathlands.

I don't know about you, but if I said 'all in the Lyceum are shifty snakes,' I surely wouldn't expect to get invited to their parties.

The same might apply elsewhere. Perhaps the reason one is unaware of a certain thing may be related to one's attitude about the possessor of such a thing. But then again, what do I know? I'm just a Seeker of the Society of Explorers, and therein handily disprove a purported point.

Relationship Note on Ainsley

The Prince has been fostering out children, finding homes for these wayward souls with no one to look out for them. We've adopted two - fostered, to be specific and use the legal term. I'm not sure my heart knows the difference.

Liam is a terror. I had to make him promise not to ride horses into the house. He loves the outdoors. I'm constantly worried that he's going to get under the feet of the Marquis' warhorse and be trampled, but Liam seems to know just what to do. He and Jessa are kindred spirits. I'm sure Emily and Joxur will join the fun of raising him, training him to be very much like the bright and adventurous side of the Deepwood-Grayridge family.

Livia though? Livia is mine, through and through. She is quiet where I am garrulous. Anxious where I am easygoing. But she likes to listen to me talk, and when she asks questions they're considerate, polite. I think she may always be that girl who listens more than she speaks and then says something profound. Or maybe she'll grow out of it, as others have. But she's a thinker, and she has a bright mind working in there. She has a love for animals that makes me think we'll need to go to the Lodge of Petrichor at some point and see if we can spy some of the creatures there.

And this happy state, domestic and warm, we owe in large part to Prince Ainsley.

I won't forget.

Relationship Note on Marian

For some people, it is very hard for them to understand that the worth of a place is not in the buildings or the history of it, but in the people who make their homes within. You made a choice to value the lives of the innocent over the buildings, and I think no one could fault you for that. Indeed none have spoken against evacuating Stormwall at least.

What some people fail to realize is that there was another choice made that was perhaps a more subtle one. In your strategy, you boldly assumed that the enemy was intelligent enough to not make a stupid, heedless decision and you planned accordingly. Who can say what they would have done if the Compact's forces were not there? Would they have pressed out of Stormwall into killing fields and past chokepoints? Or would we have given the pirate king a bastion of safety, an in tact and fortified city?

No one knows. The only reason we don't is that you planned for them to be smart and tactical, and deployed your forces to prevent them from grasping that advantage and making us pay for it for years. Planning strategies assuming the enemy is going to make the stupid choice is dangerous. It is a thing best done only when there is nothing but even worse choices to make.

Let me be clear for the record, as Dame Thena has stated at the meeting where Duke Asger put forward his plan, if that had been the method chosen to give way in the face of the Gyre, the Faith Militant would have withdrawn our forces from the North. Princess Marian and Prince Darren instead sought another way, and in that we offered our full support. We had faced the Gyre's people elsewhere, at Maelstrom and other spots, we knew their desires and we knew our lands and Duke Asger's understanding of the enemy seemed to us flawed. I do think that our forces could have worked together better, and the losses we took will haunt me until the day I lay down my duties, but sadly sometimes losses are necessary if we are to be true to the Gods and honour our oaths and commitments to them, and to oppose those who would reject our ways. I will not get into the personal matters, and if Duke Asger says he is in obedience to the Faith, then I am of course overjoyed as I am for every child of the faith, be they ever so mighty or ever so humble in stature.

I don't recall a time where I've ever flung self-importance in front of anyone when I went adventuring with people, scouting, or otherwise. In fact, I quite often defer to people who have more expertise than I do, and readily cede leadership if someone is better at something than I am. There's no place for that when out exploring, it gets you killed.

Though, I am not above embellishing stories of my travels, if I think it makes for a better telling of the adventure.

Relationship Note on Asger

Thank you for your interpretation of the events leading up to the Battle of Stormwall. During one meeting that we attended together, you proposed a plan that would have involved pulling our forces out of Stormwall and waiting in first the mines…then the pathways…please forgive me if I have the order wrong, to pick the enemy off that was sure to follow.

My issue with that plan was there was no guarantee that the enemy would have followed once they overtook Stormwall. There was no guarantee that leaving Stormwall would have preserved the castle. Yes, my criticism at the time was blunt, perhaps could have been given more diplomatically. However, this did not mean that I did not value you expertise on Crovane's lands. I never excluded you on purpose.

Based on the events at Darkwater where the enemy did occupy for a short time, those lands faced destruction on the level if not more than what we had at Stormwall. When speaking with others that fought in the South, they suffered heavy losses as well.

There is no guarantee that another plan would have resulted in less. It’s all conjecture at this point by you who evacuated before the enemy landed. I do welcome you to meet with the other commanders, get their feedback on what happened. For every commander of the North, there was a matching commander from allied Compact forces, including the Faith’s Templars and Knights of Solace. If you speak with High Lord Victus, I am sure he will be happy to provide a list of the commanders of the South. I invite you to interview these commanders who fought in the South and North to educate yourself on the facts.

Blaming one person for /everything/ that happened at the Battle of Stormwall is not healthy Duke Asger. Making jokes in light of someone’s want to help you with your pain is worrisome. To cast arrows at those that would forgive you for past wrongs of your house is not healthy. I have only tried to approach your anger with silence in the past to give you time to heal. Because my High Lord asked for compassion and understanding. But my silence is not working. It is not lessening your anger. Your behavior is escalating based last night’s actions at a meeting.

Please note scholars what Duchess Ann posted earlier is not the entirety of what Duke Asger said at that meeting. It’s an honest mistake since she was not at the entire meeting.

Duke Asger, come and participate in the Rite of Gloria. Release all of this by saying what you said in the whites to me. Strike me if it helps you. But don’t continue to use conjecture as facts. To use humor to cover up your pain. Let Gloria heal you. Heal this fracture between the two of us.

Hey now! Oathlanders adventure fantastically! There are just certain rules and procedures that must be adhered to. For instance:

1. One must always be prepared.
a. To be properly prepared, one must always pack the following:
i. Armor
ii. Weapons (At least two, you never know if the first might fail you, oh and a backup dagger. And hairpins! Those are a must.)
iii. Armor polish (Just because one is roughing it, does not mean one should not look their best.)
iv. Whet stone (A dull blade makes for healthy enemies)
v. A tent
vi. A pillow and blankets. (Good rest is key to facing challenges)
vii. A rope (Useful in all sorts of situations)
viii. A valet (To cook your meals, to polish your armor and to sharpen your blades and patch up injuries)
ix. Parchment and Quill (For when inspiration strikes to compose sonnet or ballad and to perform oblations to Vellichor)
x. Snacks. (A grumbly tummy may turn the tide of battle)
2. Do your devotions to the gods
3. Plan, plan, plan!
a. Research
b. Research some more!
c. Come up with a strategy
d. Come up with a backup strategy for when the first inevitably dissolves into chaos
e. Remember, you are doing this for honor! For the gods! For the love of your family! For the OATHLANDS!
4. Clear it with your liege
5. ADVENTURE SUCCESS!

Whew! I have taken over the little apartment over my shop, and have been moving my things in between commissions and attempting to mind the shop at least a LITTLE - my assistant is a lovely fellow, but if you don't check in on him every once in a while, then he does have a tendency to go moon over the handsome actors going in and out of the theater. I have told him to just ask the blond fellow out for a drink already, but then he turns the color of a brick and goes to hide among the boxes for an hour. So, I will leave him to tend his own love affairs, or simply enjoy pining from afar.

I don't blame him! I like a good pine myself, sometimes. The wistful sighs, the melancholy staring out the window with a small token of the object of your affection clutched in one hand. It's a good time! I shall leave him be.

Otherwise, I must offer praise to the best of business partners: Master Mayir Grayhope. Always reliable, fantastically knowledgeable, and able to be cheerful and clever all at once. One of the people in the city who it is always a pleasure to work with! He's also good company, which is about the highest complement that I can give of a person! Good company is IMPORTANT.

Other otherwise, I continue to make my profits and progress here in Arx. It is a strange, beautiful city with a lot of mystery and secrets. Oh! And I flew a kite! And I was kite-crashed by a young man, but then I flew ANOTHER kite, and that was a lot of fun! I even got a trophy. I am VERY proud of it.

Relationship Note on Asger

For those who do not know, or who may have forgotten, the Alespill war was fought over the murder of my beloved father, Prince Bjerarg Redrain, by house Crovane.

My father was murdered because he had a southern wife and because he loved the gods. Things which House Crovane mocked him for, and then murdered him for when a brawl erupted over a spilled ale at his birthday party.

Rather than give up the murderer for trial, house Crovane rose up in rebellion against their liege lords and the short, yet exceptionally bloody Alespill War was fought. It ended only because the murderer passed away and his dying wish was for the bloodshed to end.

You can imagine, therefore, how I felt upon reading Duke Asger's white journal, where he seems to find the murder of my noble father to be a joke-worthy matter.

Duke Asger, you are a wretched and despicable man. Next time you refuse to forgive, I would urge you to remember how very much has been forgiven.

Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
