Relationship Note on Marian

Wait, I should amend that. I should probably wait until the stick that is supposed to be up my ass is removed. It would be terribly uncomfortable to stand somberly with something lodged up there like that, though I will certainly try. I will make a trip to the healers and keep you informed.

Relationship Note on Marian

I stand by you, sister. None in generations have faced the kind of enemy that we did at Setarco and Stormwall. There are no easy choices or strategies, but you know that. I have always looked up to you, and I continue to do so as an example of a Leader and Warrior of the highest caliber. And you honor Gloria with your offer.

I would stand as your second, if you have need of one.

That'd be false, less. In times of war there are good choices and there bad choices. Laying down and surrendering your arms would be a bad choice, as would be standing and fighting magic zombie sailors who overwhelm your numbers, that's a bad choice. Another bad choice was to totally remove me from planning the defense of the land I know better then anyone else in the compact because I said a stand up battle was suicide, and again when the reports came in that only with much larger numbers would that be a credible solution.

Decisions were made, and even though it was marching into a meat grinder, Crovane stood along with the compact because never in a thousand years will it be said that Crovane stood idle while someone else fought their wars. Sadly I was not proven wrong and there was a far greater loss of life that day then there should have been. All this was under the auspice of you "saving Stormwall" so when you set fire to the city as you were routed by overwhelming numbers I think by your own goals we can go ahead and write that off as defeat.

My relationship with Redrain is fine, more over it grows by the day as we work to make the North a better place. In regards to the Faith while I walk the path as my ancestors did before me, I have a strong belief in the Gods, I've built shrines on my land and have rushed to the defense of holy ground.

I've offered you no insult or venom, I've stated the facts and while they paint you in a poor light I've not embellished on them. It is by your poor strategies that one in four soldiers died there. It was your choice to ignore the Intel that it was a bad idea to fight that way with the numbers we had. It was your choice to ignore the plans of those who lived there and knew the land, cutting Crovane from planning the defense of their land. As was stated many times, you had complete control of the troops and planning, so by this same token blame and praise can be laid directly at your feet for your actions.

It's true, I don't like you Marian, but I have more important things to do in my life then fuck with you. However for the blood price paid by the troops that day, I will speak up to remind others of your history and devisions lest your choices lead to another bloodbath and mass loss of life. More over my people still joke about the ale spill war, we joke about the proudwoods downfall, why would we not joke about how we stood tall and faced battle in a suicidal plan wrought by a warchiefs hubris, and us being proven right. That's glory and bragging rights, we already got song.

In the end though while I dislike you and think you shouldnt be deciding strategy, I truly know ya did the best you could, so there is that.

That was a fucking /joke/?! Good gods, the Faith Militant was about to pull support until High Lord Darren suggested something that made sense.

Fucking hilarious.

Look, my husband never mocked the Faith or... whatever he has been accused of.

Here's a detailed transcript of what transpired to get Marian's feathers ruffled:

Asger: Suggested sarcastically to draw opposing army to the middle of the city, lock the gates, and burn the city down.
Darren: "We will keep our options open."
Asger: "No you shouldn't. That's a terrible idea and if it came to that you couldn't claim it to be a victory could you?" Then he suggested other tactics that would be superior to you know, burning a whole city down which was more than what anyone else had offered, as His Grace Darren pointed out.

During this time my cousin Princess Marian decided to not say anything. She didn't tell him to stop, she issued no warnings.

If you reference back to her white journal, you may see that she's calling out Asger because he had not the courage to speak his mind in front of her. I'm afraid we are seeing the exact opposite: He DID and HAS been telling his side of the story - to her face and otherwise.

She has chosen silence.

And now, it's she that has chosen to start another shit fling in the whites and imply we weren't pious because /she/ found the behavior an affront to Gloria, rather than challenge my husband.

Relationship Note on Barric

I had a good time in the tournament to remember Prince Barric, even though I am a mediocre jouster despite winning a tournament or two. High Lord Edain would scold my riding skills, but I think Prince Barric would have had a good laugh about it. He was a really upright guy, a true knight, and he still owes me a spar -- which I'd probably lose, since he was an excellent swordsman, as one might expect. (Why did we never spar? It mostly came up while I was heavily pregnant, and I didn't expect to lose him so soon. Who did?) I considered him a friend and I'm still shocked to have lost him.

The Valardins aren't about adventure, they're about sticks up butts. And honor.

Graysons are about adventure! But if you go adventuring with them, you have to deal with all that self-importance.

I'm great at adventure, but I generally credit that to my Northerner mom. They're real free spirits. My free-wheeling adventurism is very much not the norm for Oathlanders.

I share my colleague Legate Cassandra's concerns. It would be most unfortunate for this to be anything other than a simple miscommunication of some kind surrounding the duty any member of the Compact owes to the Faith.

The Coffee Club was quite an enjoyable evening. Lady Lisebet and Duke Ryhalt are gracious hosts and the solarium is beautiful. The coffee too, was very good and I finally broke down and had a rum butter tart. Amazing. I took one home to Archeron, because in his haste not to dither, he didn't stay long enough to enjoy any of the treats.

Lady Lethe, Lady Kalani and I all played a game of categories. We had to say related words as quickly as possible in turn, first different animals and then desserts. I almost laughed myself out of the competition, but squeaked through to victory. The prize was a blade in autumn colors which I will proudly menace my enemies with.

If you read this, and haven't yet visited Bold Espressions, you really should.

Also, candied eels - are they real or was I lied to?

Perusing the whites today, I find myself hoping that there is a miscommunication, and Duke Asger isn't openly mocking or spurning the Faith, especially after the sacrifices made by many a Templar to defend Stormwall. To make light of a Rite to Gloria - regardless of your personal faith - would be a serious matter within the very Compact itself, and not simply a northern Duke thumbing his nose at religious rite he perhaps thinks himself outside of.

No one is outside of the Faith.

I would urge the Duke to clear this matter up with Princess Marian, posthaste, and take up her brave and honorable offer to conduct a Rite to Gloria on your terms.

I'd like to take a moment to remind all of Arx that, even though I might be now retired, The Champions are still wonderful for settling uneasy affairs. Keep them in mind! They're important! They're traditional!

And they're great for when you really want to tell someone to shut their sharding mouth and keep their wibbling to private places!

Don't leave home without one. But be prepared to explain why they were in your home, at least.

Were it but one brief moment of "sarcastic wit" or simply "one jab," such could warrant a dismissive take. That, however, is not the case and has not been for quite some time. To say, "what is done, is done," is only case when everyone actually moves forward. Everyone. Perhaps it is time to look at those who have not instead.

I got you covered, buddy.

Did you hear about the corpse that lost his whole left side to hungry rats?

He’s just alright now!

Was the man upset to be buried alive?

Of corpse he was!

The kids love those ones.

Here's one in honor of the coming Summer.

What do you call a corpse sitting in the sun?

DEAD HEAT!

Much has been made of what some would call the unresolved angst between Crovane and Redrain over the events at Stormwall. I have a different perspective, and I share it here it for the perusal of all.

What occurred at Stormwall can never be undone. The weight of the decisions that were made must always be born by those who made them, and I am as culpable as anyone in that regard. What's done is done and cannot be reversed. We have done our best to turn to the future, to rebuild both castles and friendships. Restoration moves forward apace on both fronts.

I ask you to look deeper than a brief moment of what I choose to dismiss as a sort of rough and sarcastic wit. If you must examine this moment, I urge you to take your cue from my reaction. That uncomfortable feelings and even resentment should live on in the hearts of those most closely impacted should go without saying and be expected. I certainly expect it.

Look deeper. Mark the fact that the good Duke attended our meeting, and aside from one jab applied himself to more constructive commentary on strategy than anyone else present attempted to provide.

Hearts do heal. They take time and forbearance for the scars they bear, but they are mending. I urge patience and understanding while we allow them the time to do so.

Attempting to paint an entire House -- or, indeed, even an entire Fealty -- with the same broad brush is the favorite pastime of those lacking much in the way to mark them out from their peers. It is something that small people do in an attempt to force their ridiculous opinions onto the rest of us. There is no turning back once the mould is broken.

Then again, stereotypes exist for a reason. For better or worse.
