Relationship Note on Aleksei
Did they let you bathe while you were out there? I mean at least pour some water over your head every now and then to get any grime off?

As you grow up, there will be many who call you "friend". This has nothing to do with your position, or with the duty that accompanies it. It is the same for many people, not just in the Mourning Isles, but all across Arvum, from the bottom of society to the very top. Most people want friends, and to have them, you have to be a friend. And though I wish I could spare you this, perhaps moreso than anything else, there is no way to do it, and so I all I can do is prepare you: the day will come when one of them, or more, turn their back on you. Perhaps it will be for political gain or because you've done something they don't approve of. Maybe you will do something unpopular or it could even something as simple as a misunderstanding that goes too far. Fair-weather friends of this sort will be around you in abundance. There are two important things to keep in mind when this happens. First, it is not the end of the world. Those who turn their backs on you for such insignificant reasons are not worth your time. Second, look around you at those who remain by your side. These are the ones you should value.

Relationship Note on Anze
I'm going to take off my shirt and drink a shit ton of whiskey in Anze's honor. It's what he would have wanted. He'd also make a joke about nobody wanting to see my tits so I must acknowledge that here as well. He would also call me Auntie and try to give me a hug.
I will find whatever did this and do my best to fuck it over as well.
Gods, my list of supernatural entities I need to track down and kill just keeps getting bigger and bigger every month...

I did not claim Aleksei Morgan an oathbreaker. In fact, and to the contrary, I quite clearly pointed out his paying penance and attaining forgiveness.
Nor did I question friendly banter with the man as a general rule.
I simply find a degree of impropriety in an ecclesiastical leader publicly engaging in playful banter which specifically concerned the subject of recently foresworn vows, and in a manner that suggested it was a light issue.
Yes, telling the Legate "You're not my boss anymore" is flaunting your release.

The only Myrinda originals I still have are ... limited. A pouch she made me. An old vest she reworked for me that wasn't her original. If any of the rest of her work is still out there somewhere and not being loved and worn, I'd be willing to pay a pretty penny for it.

On a similar vein, the beautiful gown that Dawn gave to me has gone missing. It's a shame. Some things can never be replaced. Still, perhaps Mistress Petal can help me come up with something at least comparable. I have invited her to tea to discuss the details, and I am very much looking forward to it.

Thank you, Father. I always take away a profound sense of understanding when I read your words.
Though that final sentence gave me a rather unfortunate mental image. Still. Well deserved.

However, in the spirit of attempting education, for the sake of the people of Bravura if not for the, ah, Count himself? Master Aleksei is not an Oathbreaker. He has asked for and been released from his oaths. In the eyes of the gods, this is an offense, but not so great as to break the oaths themselves, nor to serve as a false priest. That offense has been seen, acknowledged, and punished in the eyes of the gods through a penance assigned by me, as Legate of Concepts and his former direct supervisor. Is Aleksei absolved of his sins? In the eyes of the gods, he has paid penance for them, but that does not mean he will be easily trusted again, nor will the Church recommend that he /be/ trusted, until his actions prove that he has understood and embraced the concept of Fidelity, likely through his work as a father in the future. In our society, which values honor and the ability to keep one's word above almost all else, simply being known as someone who did not shall carry enough repercussions through the years that no further official penalty need be levied. And, it is worth noting, that of those divorcees - one almost immediately married a higher ranked peer, one became a member of the most prestigious knightly order in all of Arvum and has been entrusted with the safety of the king himself, and none of them have lost title, salary, property, or faced physical harm because of their choice.
Aleksei has lost all of those things, and suffered all of those things.
More, he is my friend. That did not stop me from leveling the traditional penance, nor requiring it to be seen through to the end, no matter how it hurt my heart to see my friend suffer. Because that is the demand of duty and justice - and if were to happen over again, I would assign the same penance without hesitation. But it also means that anyone who wishes to tut themselves about how I treat my friend in the aftermath of that penance is kindly, politely, and with all due respect (however minimal that might be) invited to perform unlikely sexual acts on themselves with a rusty, cast-iron comb.

Relationship Note on Aleksei
Yes he was released from his oath. For reason and cause. However, he did atone for this. He debased himself before the Gods. He did this because he discovered he was not free to make the oaths he did. Had we known about his son, he would never have become Blessed Aleksei. Had he known? He would not have followed a calling that he felt.
In his time as Aleksei Godsworn however, he served the Faith with a great deal more honour than I see from many in the city. He was loyal. Obviously he was wrong, because despite his Oathlands upbringing he remains an unrepentant liberal. But he was also good. And virtuous. And kind. And he did what must be done even when it was not the easy path. He championed Skald in a way that means it is hard to imagine Skald's disciples without Aleksei at their head.
He also became our friend. And I remain proud to consider him that. That friendship does not die because we regret his actions, his ignorance of certain facts - things he could not necessarily control. And, this is the key difference that some who seek to attack him by comparing him to the castigation of divorcees recently fail to grasp - he did not seek to return to his station in life. He is no longer Blessed. No longer Godsworn. He is no longer a man commanding the respect many nobles would wish, but instead he is a common man. He sought punishment, he atoned, and he was humbled.
