Shhh. Scholar, don't write so loudly.

Whatever did I do?

There's an unsaid correlation to the recent happenings of the past week. Now the borders here are white, and thus my words will have no darkness to them, but there's no longer any doubt. Doubt left me yesternight, when I witnessed with my own two eyes the truth of it all; the truth that from the white comes the black, and that grey is but a bridge- a succession to a final happening, and when in turn, a start; a beginning. I've trailed cold footsteps of a dead, dark man leading into dead, dark corners and came upon answers for questions, but when one question is answered then two arise, and the maze grows ever bigger, the Inquisitorial duties are a thankless affair. We're trained to don the black and submit to the darkness as to understand it, to adjust our eyes to its fog and in its gloom face the truth laid bare beneath such veil, but when the truth comes with many faces, and interpretations, then how? What kind of training coaches you into knowing right from wrong? None. We're just human, in the end; we're the result of our everyday, and every day changes us; we're ever-changing, unlike as many say that we don't quite change. I refuse that notion. A man is like the passage of water, subject to weather and man's desire to manipulate the soil beneath it.

The tale of the mirrormask is a sad, frightening tale that has me going to bed at night in preparation for nightmare and waking up is easy, sleeping not so much. I was never a praying man, but thinking of what could be often times has me wondering if I ought to ask Lagoma to spare a little ember for little me, should such time ever come.

Scowling. I have noticed quite a bit of scowling. If I remembered any of their names after our brief discussions and the weapon bestowed on them I might try and by them a drink. Still there is a line here and by the spirits I will get through it by sundown.

[A later addition to the page]

I think I saw a goodly portion of those interested in joining the Redrain army today. In retrospect, asking their names may have helped but then again I do not need to know their names to see them armed. Mayhap something to consider when I do this in Whitehold.

Subject: Spirit of Stormwall Medicinary & The Black Axe Pub

For those of you that don't know me, I am Lady Clara Crovane, younger sister of Duke Asger Crovane. I am a member of The Physicians and in the past I have fought by some of your sides and tended your wounds. That is all I am inclined to say about myself at this time. If you'd like to know me better there are ways beyond reading what I think about myself as I am wholly biased.

Recently, I have opened up the Stormwall Medicinary and its adjacent pub, The Black Axe, and I wanted to take a minute and be open with the public of my intentions for the establishment.

The Medicinary is no different from any other in that I see people who need to be seen for various ailments, I give them medicine, wish them well, check up on them, and pray that they get well. What does make us different is that I am a noble woman running a business and though I do not understand the social bickering about nobles accepting money (if nobles aren't charging for their services they are more likely to get customers than commoners who are and so it makes no sense to me that there is such a problem around nobles charging because it seems like it would actually benefit commoners more if they did. But I digress as that is not the point of my journal today)?

Anyways, I am adhering to the practice of sending my profits off to organizations in need. I am NOT doing this because society says I MUST do so. I could honestly give a rats ass what any one of you think of me and what I do on that level because it's not important to me. I am donating profits because it is the right thing to do and I like helping people. I like people smiling and enjoying their lives and if they are not doing these things than we can expect disease of all sorts spreading around including non-body diseases like crime rate due to desperation being clung onto.

The way I run the business is like this? If a High Noble woman walks in and says she wants a piece of medicinal jewelry because it is pretty I ask her to make a donation at or above the base value of the item if she can and I notify her that profits will be donated. Likewise, if a commoner walks in and needs medicine for her ill son I simply ask that she give what she can. I accept more than coin from people. I accept silver, writs, food, crafts, time/work. If they have nothing they can give I have even asked them to sit by the door for a couple of hours and just greet my patrons for me. Whatever it is they can do, if anything, that is all I ask.

Meanwhile, any non-money donations I receive also are donated to charities and I do this anonymously because I don't care about receiving credit for my actions and charity. All I need to know is that someone didn't starve or die because I made the right choices.

~ Credit is NOT the point of Charity. Charity for Charity's sake is what matters. Anything else is just selfish and so I cannot bring myself to intentionally try to get credit for any charitable action. I am in it for the people, not for myself. This business is for the people, not for my profit whether it be coin or praise.

If someone shows up at the pub hungry. I will feed them and talk with them and help find a way for them to pay the pub back. No questions, end of story, don't care if you're a noble, soldier, or a starving commoner. If you want food and cannot afford coin? Sure, you can work it off. Whatever.

I hope that eases any concern about my business since its reputation is something I don't want to see sagging. Less because I don't want to deal with the politics and more because I don't want my patrons and patience to suffer because of it.

Though this will make Lord Commander Dayne dissapointed in me given his dedication to the sword, but I feel the spear is greatly under appreciated. For me , in battle, it is my spear that is my primary tool, both on horseback and on foot, and my sword is my sidearm for when quarters become to cramped.

I cannot claim it is as flashy or as sexy as either sword or axe, but it has a simple, time tested efficacy that let's you control the flow of battle at your own terms if wielded properly and is excellent as an offensive or defensive weapon.

Both of mine can do that! Coinspinner never loses its edge, and Stephen tends to heal whatever wounds it receives. It's handy! Swords, in my case, definitely better. Plus, two axes isn't showy enough.

Thoughts on weapons:

My preference is to have between myself and a potential threat a lot of armed professionals. Axes, swords, spears. If they are exceptionally proficient with a weapon, then I shall be well pleased, no matter their particular choice. In fact, one of my Guardians is absolutely deadly with wooden spoons. I can hardly imagine the damage this particular individual might be capable of should a spoon of metal come into their grip.

Axes or swords?

Personally I like the axe much better. Can kill with it then bring it home and chop some firewood too. Don't scratch easy, don't break easy. I might be liken to change my mind should someone show me a sword that can carve logs without losing it's edge.

'Till then though, my mind is set.

I recommend a good ballad, or a quality epic, if one wants to stay awake. Reading statistical analysis is all well and good, but even I drift off after a few straight hours.

And coffee. Lots of tea and coffee. No alcohol.
