I have not fully registered that my friend is gone, I find when I sit and I look at all the beautiful pieces she made for me. The last was my wedding ring, I just I am sorry we had not gotten to talk much as of late so many things have been going on. I am so incredibly, effusively, utterly happy! Not only am I going to get to marry a man I love with all my heart, but I have agreed to a patronage that I think will be beneficial to all parties AND Princess Agatha gave me the incredibly amazing idea to present Lord Niklas with challenges throughout our courtship to make sure that he is truly willing to go above and beyond to secure the match!
And while I know that he is without any silly challenges, he was so creative when I asked him to procure me a fish that I am happy to continue asking him to do ridiculous things in the name of love. And beneficial trade agreements, of course.

Including time for sleep and relaxation - something which I did not remember to include in my plans this last fortnight, and which I deeply regret - I am currently booked solid though my upcoming duel. If you are one I have spoken with and made some kind of plan, don't worry, you are not forgotten and you are in that list of things for me. But I am looking at this pile of missives and realizing I have going to have to set some ground rules regarding my time.
I am not certain what the best way to publicly do so is. The bulletin boards, likely. I will post something after I fight.
There are other things which I wish to write about which I will, somehow, also find time for. Perhaps Oaths - from the perspective of a Devotion. This is certainly well-trod ground lately, but I have yet to really put my two silver in.
Until then, I have letters to write.

For the first time ever, I got drunk at one of my own drinking tournaments. I stayed mostly sober until the thing was over, and while I did have a few shots of the nasty booze, it was the bottle of wine that really did me in. I think.
I feel TERRIBLE.
Is this really what everyone feels like after being up all night drinking? Why would anyone choose to do this over and over?!
Is it an attempt at penance? Do we punish ourselves for our sins? Or is this the punishment for the sin of overindulgence? Overindulgence and writing letters when we really shouldn't be writing?
Really, really, really shouldn't have been writing.
I pray to the Gods for forgiveness and healing.

My immediate family is gone. That's hardly a secret, it's in my public record, after all. I have a family still, of course, in my wonderful cousins (of whom Adriana and Paige are in Arx), and my uncle, and others.
But my family is also here, in Arx. I think it was always here, waiting to be found. My new, loving wife Genevieve, such a welcome surprise every day. In the Keatons, who treat me with the respect I feel I hardly deserve, but treasure every single day. And in new friends I make every day. I feel at /home/ here now. I feel like I belong here, now.
And I will fight for my home, and my family. Always. I will not ever let it happen again, not while I still breathe.

I've never found that writing about those who you care for has ever let me down in producing smiles. So today, I think of my cherished Patron and the generosity she's shown since I arrived in this city. September is too quickly coming to a close. I went to the botanical gardens tonight to enjoy the flowers while they still cling to their greens. I met Lord Farshaw there. It was a pleasant conversation .. most of the time. He is too forward for my tastes.
