Relationship Note on Natalia

Message sent on the announcement of Princess Natalia's betrothal to Prince Dagon

My Condolences

Dear Signore Dominici.

It is I, your second son. The one you chose to disown for his passions and desire to be something other than a simple grain merchant.

I hope this post finds you well. I have made it to Arx. I have secured a prestigious position and a patron for my art. Do you recall when you told me I would die a silverless beggar, before you ever sent me a single coin to help pay my way?

You have been true to your word, on your spendthrift nature.

But you will find enclosed in this missive, a cheq drawn on the bank of Lenosia.

You may cash it at your lesiure, and do what you will with the money.

I'm so pleased that in the space of 3 weeks in this city, I have made more money than the whole family did last year.

As a note.

My employer is Grand Duchess Esera Velenosa.

Some people around here have an appreciation for the arts.

I will send more money when I am able for Sophia's fosterage. I will find someone suitable of station for her to foster with, and then I, not you, not your grain, not your discontent and inconsolable nature, will raise our family out of the apathy you let infect it.

Your son.

Branan.

Relationship Note on Juliet

I have never had a sister of the blood. In fact, I would caution to say that I might not have many true friends. It is the manner of politics. This is one that I consider more than a friend, but a sister. I wish nothing but good things in her life for her. I know that her heart will find where it needs to be and that the person it finds should consider themselves lucky beyond words.

Relationship Note on Dagon

It is released that we are to be wed. There is still much to do, but I suppose I could speak more on my thoughts about him. I find Dagon Thrax to be a man worthy of my respect as well as one that I am happy to spend my next years with as his wife. May the Gods watch over him and bless us.

I'm feeling better, but Vidar is too old to want to get out of bed anymore. He stays in the room and sleeps. I don't mind, he deserves to live the rest of his life comfortably, and I have Atila to accompany me, as well as the direwolf pup, Tempest. He's almost bigger than Attie already, and he can't be more than a year old!

But Tempest has been sick lately, ever since I brought him back from the mountain. I took the huskies out for a run in the Grove and interrupted Prince Kieran, but it was a pleasant surprise and I hope I convinced him that dogs make much better pets than his brother's bear. It'd be fun to train a new pup -- I'm still working with the wolf, but I can't stress how different it is.

My big brother Sigurd came to Arx this week, too. It's wonderful having him around, and much less lonely, though I do miss the rest of my family.

I met an apothecary named Gwen, too, who seems to have a particular fondness for the woods. I look forward to joining her and learning about all the native plants around these parts. I even met the Champion Aksel when I took Tempest to the stablemaster for advice on how to best treat his illness.

A busy day, but a satisfying one. I should get back to my studies immediately. Someone has to fill mother's shoes, after all.

Letters and letters.

(Molly is chewing on a few of my earlier drafts, and I think that she may have disrupted the poor messenger that I called to deliver my missives - he might have made off with more of the same message. Goodness.)

Words are power. Words can light fires in the mind and bring tears from the heart. Words can shift and influence when used with precise care.

With the regent being so busy, I need to search out another of the noble Grayson to focus my attentions on.

If nothing of worth or entertainment comes from my attempts, I will adapt and continue.

Relationship Note on Sabella

(From the desk of B. Mercier, Steward)

Your Royal Highness Sabella Grayson,

Please forgive the earnest tone of this message, but, I wished to convey the following: I do so admire your style and fashion sense. I think that I saw you in passing while in the palace - and I have been so busy - between duties to my family and my more important responsibilities as steward to your most noble House.

One day soon, if it would please you, I would humbly ask you to take tea at Mercier Manor so that we may speak on matters of fashion and trend. I am woefully outdated and could use a critique on my wardrobe.

Respectfully yours,
Mistress Bethany Mercier'

'Your Royal Highness Natalia Grayson,

The news of your nuptials spread like wildfire across the palace staff, and as steward I thought that I would personally congratulate you on your fine match. I wish you and your prospective bridegroom many years of health and happiness together.

Respectfully Yours,
Mistress Bethany Mercier.

"Say you'll remember me
Standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset babe
Red lips and rosy cheeks
Say you'll see me again even if it's just in your wildest dreams (Ah ah)
Wildest dreams (Ah ah)"

I still have my memories, I hope he has his too.

I have met many people in Arx this past week that I had not known were here in all my years among them. It just goes to show that I need to get out of the Champion's Hall more.

Dipped into the Murder for the first time in a very long time --

The conversation with the knight errant that I met (one Aleksei Morgan) was very pleasant and light-hearted.

I now have a rain-check for someone that is, quote, good at thrashing people.

Could be useful.

So it is known now to everyone that I am to be wed. It has perhaps been the worst kept secret anyways.

You are all very welcome, for the delight of hearing Edain say 'Twinkle Court' at the Explorer's Society debut meeting.

Technically, I suppose I should have corrected him, knowing that Twinkle and Twilight could so easily be confused. But, does anyone really blame me for giggling quietly to myself? No, I didn't think so!

So at the Inaugural meeting of the Explorers Society I learned something very important.

I learned that I have been erroneously referring to the Twilight Court of the Nox'alwhosits as the "Twinkle Court" for months and NO ONE has been correcting me!

I find myself not feeling overly well. It has meant that I am spending more time at Illusions. I'm sure it will pass.

Relationship Note on Sylvie

Lady Sylvie Zaffira, if the name that Princess Sophie provided was accurate. She came into the Traders Tavern one night to, presumably, avoid the rain. She was soaked, much like a rat fleeing a sinking ship. As a result my cloak was offered to dry herself with. I never got my cloak back.

That was my second favorite cloak.

Which is important, since I only have the two.

Woe be unto the Lyonesse.

Relationship Note on Bethany

Encountered Bethany Mercier at the Traders Tavern. Declined to use of my cloak to dry herself after seeking shelter from the rain. Offered me a cup of tea. Seems friendly, inquisitive, and largely carefree.

Will likely encounter again, someday.

Relationship Note on Branan

A poet, it would seem. Polite and understanding as well. He'll go far in his craft I think, because he is personable and easy to address.

A list of interactions and observations that followed the Mercier Family Supper.

In no particular order:

* The poet was terrible. Then, terribly amusing. I almost felt a twinge of an emotion when it seemed that I embarrassed him - it passed, however, as it was just a shiver due to being caught in the rain.
* Someone that serious is highly suspect. He was looking around the tavern, as if he had lost something - or, someone.

(No assumptions, Bethany. If you want to know you need to have the courage to ask the proper questions.)

* Possibly his cloak. The Lady in the black dress made off with it. She was lovely, nevertheless.
* As was the other Lady. The one that pressed the coins into my hands for the dark-haired gentleman and his pup.
* That other gentleman has a razor in place of his tongue.
* The Guildmaster gave me an unexpected gift which made me smile.

Gods and spirits, that was more people packed into a single room than I expected to encounter. I suppose you could say the Explorer's Society was a success!

I did my best to spread a bit of useful information around, hopefully seeding a bit more. And Cara's suggestion was a good one, to send people out to see what information they can find here, just to see how well the groups they form can do as a team.

Gods know, we have enough things that need looking into outside of the city. And as much as I'd like to, there's no chance whatsoever I can look into it all myself. So if this can help find a few reliable exploring parties to send out on things, that's all I can hope for.

After all, Orazio's little band certainly proved effective, moreso than I had feared we would. Enough to remind me that adventuring alone isn't *always* the best -- or correct -- choice.
