There is a rare beauty in autumn that goes beyond the russets and oranges of the falling leaves that turn to dust beneath our feet. It is the beauty that comes with the promise that what dies will be return somehow, vibrant and resilient. Vital and reborn.

Spent an enjoyable evening conspiring with Prince Artur to drag a number of breadmakers and lazy guardsmen and such to their deaths beneath the briny depths, then devour them at our leisure.

A rousing success!

Things have been quiet in the shop, though mostly due to my not taking commissions before an important trip. I had Rigby bring me some whites he thought I might enjoy, and one from an apparent fellow brawler struck me with a touch of melancholy, I guess you'd call it.

It has been some time since I've truly been in a sanctioned brawl. Unsanctioned one, either, unless you count that ride on the back of an elk with Sir Daemon, but even that was some years gone. I still train, of course, but as I get closer to forty - which some think is positively ancient, for the love of the Gods - I wonder if I might ever truly see the circuits again. There have been opportunities, of course, but the longer I have been in Arx, the more I have found myself pulled toward crafting weapons instead of breaking noses.

I won't ever stop training, at least. Well, as long as my body will allow anyhow. There's something about repeating the steps and the motions - feint right, feint right, left jab - that I enjoy to much to quit. It's just me and my thoughts and a routine to lose myself in.

Anyhow, those were the thoughts that kinda all came to mind and I figured to save them. Tah dah.

I will admit that there are times that I do not understand the entries displayed in the white journals.

I suspect it would be doubly so for the more private entries.

Then again, perhaps this is not a bad thing.

Some things should be remain discreet.

My breath simply left my body when I spied the new pair of sandals that were delivered from Mistress Josephine. What true beauty that she creates in her shop.

One dislikes to belabor the obvious, but if this is, in fact, an attempt to pin the blame on an innocent (in this case) party, then it is blatant to the point of childishness: "an Abandoned carved the sigil of the Platinum Throne into his chest, and wrote on the wall, 'The Undying Empire tolerates no Cardian dogs.'"

What is entirely unambiguous is this: such an action might be expected to sway noble sentiment, and political calculus, in a very specific direction.

I made it back to the city in time for the fealty meeting in the Redrain Villa's Great Hall. A group of us had traveled north from Pearlspire to visit the port currently being constructed in Stormwall. On the way we found ourselves mired in deep fog, and happened upon pirates preying on a merchant vessel.

Unfortunately for the pirates, our ship was captained by Lady Peri Seliki, and had on board some of the most renown pirate hunters in Arvum: Lords Ian and Aethan Kennex, as well as Lady Jan. In addition to such skilled warriors and sailors we also had on board the Count of Pearlspire himself, whose axe proved to be a source of might and mercy. When the fog cleared, the pirates found their captives freed and their own ship taken. Those few left alive revealed themselves to be a remnant of the Undrowned Sons, likely drifting southward from the Frozen Sea, preying on what seemed like the easiest targets.

It is said that the unrest in the Isles has brought greater risk to vessels traversing the Mourning Sea. Let those who act in contempt of the law of the Compact take heed: attacks on those under our protection will not be tolerated. Be guided by the light of the law, seek help from the Faith, your lieges, your friends and family - but those who turn to piracy will be destroyed.

There is nothing more beautiful then the night sky, dark like rich black velvet covered with tiny diamonds. Glinting and twinkling. Perhaps I should learn how to paint, so I may capture such lovely sights.

I finally met my Melaeris cousin. I knew he'd been here a while so it was good to catch up. Looks like there will be a Melaeris family dinner that I will want to attend!

He gave me some inspiration for a story to tell too. If my talents and organisational skills are up to it.

My husband was everything I had ever asked him to be and more: Kind, generous to a fault, and believed I would be a strong leader for Hawkmour by his side. Instead, I find that I will have to be a strong leader in his absence.

I never thought I would find myself wanting to dress myself in silks and the like, but I can't deny the fact that my general preference in clothing is ill suited should I wish to treat with certain individuals. Still, I have to admit, the aeterna feels wonderful to the touch, but having clothes that cling to me is a strange sensation. I considered silk for the coat as well, but with winter approaching I opted for what people have been calling "seatouched" wool. That name still bothers me, because the wool neither looks, feels, or smells like anything to do with the sea. Perhaps they make it near the ocean? I don't know. I never paid attention to this sort of thing before.

The amount of silver to procure the necessary amount of cloth had me wincing like I had just sat down after someone had smacked my bottom with stinging nettle earlier. That alone is a reminder to treat these clothes /very/ well, and with care.

Still, if this is what it's like to wear steelsilk, then I really have been missing out. I consider myself a fairly practical man, and having attire that both looks good and keeps a knife out of my ribs seems rather like unhorsing an opponent at a joust with just a glare, to me.

Days are always better when you win.

Sure, half of my face is swollen up from that opening haymaker, but I don't think anyone expected me not to go down, least of all the challenger. Struck him back quick as you like, backed him into the corner, and landed some body blows while he was busy protecting his precious face. I don't know if the poor sod ever caught his breath after that, but you won't see me caring.

Coinpurse felt uncomfortably heavy, so I went and splurged on a hot meal and some drinks at the Murder - company there was more lively than I'd expected. Fiery, short-statured girl beckoned me over, drunk as you like, and asked me to join the table. Was in far too good a mood to let that invitation slide, so took my meal over to the table.

Didn't follow much of the conversation, but I quite enjoyed the game of truths, though I suspect not all of those were created equally.
