Relationship Note on Helena

Muddy and absolutely no truffles to show for it. Princess Helena and I came out empty handed though I apparently failed far worse than she did but together managed to put on quite a show. I believe I still have mud in my ear from trying to grab my board. Lord Aethan represented us all and put most of us to shame. I must write a song about the Two Maidens Fair and The Boar. It will be a grand retelling of our familiarly with mud.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

Wow. Duke Laurent is just incredibly thoughtful and generous. Is everyone this lucky? Everyone can't be this lucky. I should make him a gift.

I have been having this nightmare about Eresport as I am preparing to return. In the dream, Harlex and I keep pulling on the rope, but Lady Olivia never reaches the top of the well. The corpse of a child claws her and bites her, but no matter how fast I pull, or with what fury I race to drag her from the well, she never makes it to the top. I hate the dream. It makes me feel powerless. There is still so much I don't understand.

Fortunately, I did manage to get a good night of sleep from the stupor I found myself in after Lady Willow's birthday party. It was a fantastic celebration, but to write more than that might be unwise.

I was also lucky enough to hone my survival skills under Lord Arik Halfshav, who deduced the entirety of my combat style by glancing at my sword belt. One of my old mentors used to say, "the most under utilized weapon on the battlefield is the mind." I suspect the Sword of Whitehold is a notable exception.

Courtesy of Dame Morrighan and Guildmaster Joscelin, I am so astonishingly well-dressed that I don't quite recognize myself. Or know what to do with myself. Perhaps this was a dire decision, to pay geniuses to clothe me so well.

Sometimes really just seeing and /getting/ the other person on the rare occasion you brush into one another can make for some of the most fulfilling friendships. I am glad we were able to catch up.

Relationship Note on Preston

Gods almighty, I don't want to go on errands INSTEAD of Sir Jeffeth Bayweather. I don't have time for that sort of thing.

My point is, neither does he.

I'm really not nearly as good at saying nice things about you in the Whites as you are saying them about me, but I miss you too.

Relationship Note on Madeleine

I've never had cause to speak to the Archlector Madeleine of Mangata before. We swim in different circles. I tend to keep my own counsel and my prayers to the gods are usually private.

All in all, I think we both enjoyed the conversation, although I suspect we were both a little surprised in the best of ways. I at finding such easy and interesting conversation in an unexpected place, and she at finding that I didn't want anything from her.

I'm sure our paths will cross again. After all, the music of water sings everywhere, and they say that all drops of rain eventually find their way to the sea.

Fair winds and calm seas indeed. Well met, Archlector.

Only a handful of weeks more until my very favorite time of the year! I know that we should always show our appreciation to those most dear to us, in small ways and in large ways. But there is just something so wonderfully exciting about having even more of an excuse to find just the right thing for just the right person. It is then the waiting until the right time that is then so terrible!

Relationship Note on Sophie

There are some people for whom the call is so obvious, so strong, that we cannot help but cheer and applaud as they heed it. Princess Sophie is the embodiment of what it means to be a Mercy in so many ways, and this next step she is taking is one which will do us all good. I am incredibly proud of her.

As may have been gathered from my other entires today, I have joined the scholars, and almost immediately graduated to Adept, or as it is now called, Graduate. I must wait at least some time before I can advance further, which gives me some time to plot out what I will be doing as part of a lecture I must give. I am not sure what I will talk on. Do I have enough knowledge in any particualr subject that I can give such a lecture without boring the audience? It is strange, I have no issues with preaching, with delivering a sermon or taking a service, but when it comes to a talk with those who are to be my peers, I find myself nervous and anxious. As one often is when one is worried about making a good impression, I guess.

Relationship Note on Ysabel

Baroness Ysabel Gilden is a very interesting person, and the two of us seem to have made friends with each other fairly quickly. How it all got started, I am not sure, but I think it comes from both being novices in the Scholars, an offering of assistance in searching the stacks for knowledge about herself, assisting in finding out about what happened to her brother, and teaching her about theology. I don't think I have spent as much time with a person I have just met as with her, not gone so deeply into so many different and complex topics. I should be lucky if I find more such as her to be friends with.

Relationship Note on Delilah

Lady Delilah uas taken me on a her protege. I am grateful that such a well respected and knowledgable person has judged me capable enough to be my patron. I have also joined the Scholars and become an Adept, Lady Deliliah setting me some interesting questions to prove that I can find knowledge in the stacks. Even if I did find it everywhere but. I need to remember that the books I seek will be probably be there, before I methaphorically run to every *other* library I know to check.

Recently there was a little mishap at the Shrine of Lagoma. Rather than feeling bad about it, I decided to dedicate some of my time and silver towards seeing it repaired. Physical labor can be a prayerful meditation on its own. It makes me think of my mother and her devotion to Lagoma, and I think if she were here, she would be working alongside us to see the place renewed. Change can be shocking and terrifying, but it can also bring about something better.

I've been allowed the opportunity to try a bit of something new, which is both somewhat terrifying as well as exciting. It is a reminder, perhaps, that sometimes I need to put the numbers aside for a little bit and paint, or do things that encourage my artistic side. If I do not do well as this endeavor, I can, at the very least, say that I tried and surely will gain a wonderful memory and educational experience from it.

I hate seeing empty display cases in the shop, but sometimes there just isn't enough time to craft to fill them with all the other little and big things going on. The past few days, though, I took the time to put together an idea inspired by stories my mother used to read when I was a child. Those seemed to do well, but I wanted to do some swords that didn't reflect on those little creatures of the sea. I've said no few times that a sword is like a story and I often forge them with some tale or promise in mind. I think (hope, really) that I managed to put that idea into a few named blades as well. Naming swords is, no pun intended, a double-edged sword sometimes. It assigns the weapon an identity before what it might become defines it. They can be changed, of course; if you call something by a new name long enough, people eventually follow that lead. Still, I guess I'll get a feeling or inspiration and hope that what inspired me will continue to fit.
