More reports.

Sad reports from the lines.

There is report that one of my cousins was slain in the middle of battle, and now I must recover the body and deal with things that brought this turn of events about.

All the while the emissaries of the great world outside the compact look on at our scurrying. What a bright showing we all make.

I knew some of those scholars. I trusted some of those scholars.

I'm stunned. And shocked. And hurt.

I feel sick to my core.

A true proclamation and celebration shall be forthcoming, but let the archive record that Stonewood has completed a grand bridge which crosses the Gray River near Stonehearth, and that men and wagons and horses may cross from north to south and back again without waiting on the ferryman.

If anyone wants to know what was going on or just be angry at me face to face, I'm in the Iron Guard barracks resting. I've already had someone very good at punching come by and do so for my role in things. The black eye he has given me is the worst I've ever had, so I'm honestly kind of impressed.

I won't be writing about it any further in the whites.

If there is one thing that has been true in Thrax's long, bloodied and war-torn history, it is that we are a people who put the honor of our houses first in all things. Men and women both die to save their houses and families the shame of having to deal with their perceived disgrace. Dressed in all the armor of their station before they walk into the ocean itself to atone.

Prince Drake Thrax executed his own brother for daring to break guest rite with murder, a stain on Thrax that would not be tolerated in his domain.

Any who believe that a Thraxian house would have dared to break guest rite in their court, or a foreign one, need to examine their evidence /very/ closely. Guest rite is sacred and you will be hard-pressed to find someone so insane, so irresponsible, so utterly asinine as to even THINK of tarnishing it.

We did what needed to be done. Templars wants to get their panties in a twist about it, you judgey fucks.

Boss just saved a bunch of lives and she's gotta get punished for it? Bullshit.

Yeah, we killed a bunch of people, can't say I'm gonna shed any tears about it. They had it coming. Wanna ask what they did? Ask the High Inquisitor.

Welcome to the family, Baby H.

Your name was your grandfather's and you will need plenty of time to grow that you might fill the burdens of such a name. Until then, H or Harry do just fine for us.

The rush to apportion blame cannot be allowed to overwhelm the core fact of a recent tragedy: pilgrims seeking to commit themselves to the betterment of the Compact were slaughtered, along with their protectors. Whoever is truly responsible must be held to account - but vengeance will not repair the harm, or restore what all those future Mercies might have brought to the world. We need to find a way to dream as brightly as they dared to, and not succumb to the kind of darkness that curt short their lives. That will be all the more difficult, and all the more important, for those of us who had the privilege of knowing and caring for some of the fallen.

The other day, I went to meet Red for a drink at the Ebb. As much as I am not that big of a rum drinker after an experiment as a child. The usual crowd was their but suddenly the bar filled with leadership with two out the three mercenary companies within the city. While I actually enjoy the Baron of the Few and the Commander of the blades, their presence made me feel rather small as someone who at best leads a small handful of men. The only group that was missing representation were the Isle Canine members and that's a pity. Interesting to see the contrast between the Blades and the Few leaders extremely different people and feels towards their organization. I hope to run into more sellswords as the situation in the city continues to deteriorate.

It is a strange, strange thing to feel yourself finally beginning to heal. To remember what you looked like when you were whole, and feel that woman coming back to you.

Sharp words about current events aside, on a personal level, these past couple weeks have been a desperately needed breath of fresh air. I didn't even realize I was drowning. But I'm back.
