The Princess Macda is sharp of mind. She seems amiable to me teaching her, and I am disposed to do so. She has a fire and steel in her that I find admirable. Its a primal natural energy that can be a wonder and benefit to everyone. I hope that in some way I can help her to focus it.

Last night I accepted an anonymous invitation to the Grotto to enjoy the sociable company of some of the finest princesses of the Compact. It isn't the sort of invitation I usually get, so curiosity made me attend. I won't spoil the surprise if others end up getting similar invitations, though I will say that I did not regret going.

The Duchess-Consort of Stormwall. It was with her I found myself negotiating the contract to have Lady Fianna Crovane's hand. I see why Duke Asger sent her - she is a shrewd and just negotiator, and I look forward to the joining of our families.

Oh, my stars!

I have received almost the most wonderful gift ever! They just arrived from Irisical, and I've never held anything so soft and beautiful! They also make the loveliest sounds. It's not a song...not /exactly/...but they coo and trill quite contentedly especially when you feed them grains and allow them to nestle in your arm or against your neck! I think one of them /must/ have the blood of a champion! He struts and puffs his feathers just so, his tail as proud and plumed as a noblewoman's fan! And they are so striking in with their white and black markings! It's so hard to not spoil them. I wanted to get them accustomed to the Palazzo, but perhaps it wasn't the best idea to allow them out of their cage just yet.

I think I got all of the feathers out of Sabine's room!

I did notice that my champion had a black foot when I retrieved him from the courtyard. He'd been flying near Minister Daupenne's offices. I peeked in the doorway and his ledgers were out, as was his inkwell, but I didn't have time to look then, and when I'd finally retrieved all the birds his door was closed!

And I cleaned up the incident on top of Cosimo's bookshelf.

I think perhaps, in addition to all the lovely nightgowns and bedding robes I'm working on this week, perhaps I'd better see about getting some instruction from someone who knows about keeping birds!

Relationship Note on Orvyn

I remember when we were children, and you would be sitting at your studies, head bowed, while the day was glorious outside. Of course, I, in my innocent selfishness, assumed you were unhappy, that the head bowed was one of discontent. So of course, it was my duty to burst in, surprise the tutor, take you by the hand and run until we left the shouting behind us, and the warm sun was on our faces, free at last. "Look, look, come and see, brother, look what ships are coming in!" By then you were laughing, and running just as hard along side me, racing for the overlook where we could watch the whitecaps and ships from on high. You tussled my hair, making a mess of all the braids that my maid had forced it into, and then pointed out where each ship must have been coming from or going to, based on how they set their sails, and the banners they flew. Still at your studies, in a way, patiently educating me where a tutor could not, allowing me to weave crowns and bracelets of the sad scraggly little wildflowers and vines so that I could listen as you spoke.

Now it is you, who offers a hand, at least in spirit, and I am just as breathless in those first few minutes as you must have been--as I am pulled forward and you tell me, "Come and see, sister, what ships are coming in." I know that this is not a path you necessarily would have chosen, years ago, had you the choice. And I know a little of the sacrifices you have made, in fully committing yourself to it. But Harthall has never been so strong, and I have never been so happy, as to chase after these new dreams and plans, and to think I might have a hand in helping you bring them in.

I could -- should -- set down a proper entry in some poor attempt to offer my feelings to the pages of my White Journal. There have been quite a few things on my mind that I should -- would -- write down. Committing them to parchment would make them _real._ Which, then, would start that rather annoying thing called optimism to start developing. Or, gods forbid, hope. So. No. I won't.

Relationship Note on Ida

Patsy has been returning from Dame Ida's shop with elk treats to munch on. Given that he is not an elk, naturally I've looked askance to the man while he's sat happily gnawing on them.

Honestly, they're not half bad once one gets through the pine flavor.

Relationship Note on Kenna

Accepting the fact that Lady Kenna will send random gifts at random times has been one of the better facts that I've come to terms with. Her latest maneuver has not lacked in success when it comes to impressing me.

I had better start thinking about how one responds with a gift, to a gift-giving.

A sword, maybe? Possibly a spear or mace?

Relationship Note on Jyri

He conspired with another to present me with a gift. This painting is one that will hang in a place of prominence, because I like it a great deal.

The artistic skill of Master Tersk is impressive; never has been Dauntless been captured in such a stunning way. There was a stick figure variety of Dauntless once, but this rendition far surpasses that more rudimentary representation.

Prayer to Petrichor

Protector of the Forests,
God of Land, Soil and Trees,
Petrichor I thank thee.
When our enemies came,
You protected the Grove
Stopped the shed of blood
From soaking your soil.
Pushing back the corrupt
And fouled beasts of wrong.
Bringing your light to me
And brave warriors, chasing
Darkness from the clearing,
Cleansing the horror with life,
A fresh sapling that heralds
A new tomorrow, hope for us all.

Words passed on to me by an old soldier haunt my thoughts tonight, a poem known as 'For the Fallen' by Laurence Binyons. I share it in part, an ode to the honored dead.

They will not grow old,
As we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
we will remember them.

As I prepare to fight in defense of Petrichor at the Lodge, I figured it'd be proper to spend some time in His shrine today. It was lovely. I usually resist climbing the trees there but, when I came upon King Alaric in a tree himself, it seemed not only all right, but the thing that MUST be done. I sat among the branches and talked with good, brave folk and thought on the land and the import of what I was protecting. It was a good day, and a feeling I shall take with me in what is to come.

Relationship Note on Corban

There are some family that are close to us. There are other family that are the foundations on which we draw our strength and comfort. You are one of those for me, Cousin. I cannot tell you how glad that I am that you are safe after your recent encounters. I thank the Gods that you are returned safe and sound.

And with that all said, I cannot tell you how proud that I am of you to see how well you have excelled in your chosen calling. It gives me comfort to know that you are there to protect our King each and every day.

Though you are no longer family in title, you shall always remain so at heart. I look forward to hearing all about all of it. We are definitely due some cousin time, very soon!

The oddest of things transpired tonight. I walked over the bridge, headed upo nmy way, and people halted in their path to murmur affectionate words and nod as though I was someone.

Clearly they've mistaken me for someone else.

I'm so excited! The plans for Aion's Grand Melee are coming together. Next week I'll pick up the aeterna and umbra pillows for the combatants. So far Master Felix and Master Sparte have donated towards the renovations, and Master Felix has crafted the most /beautiful/ hairpins to offer as one of the prizes. They're a matched set, one sleeping woman and one sleeping man, and when fitted into the hair, they entwine as if dreaming together. Isn't that lovely?

Others have so generously volunteered their skills as well and I can't wait to see what they produce. Mistress Adora's Whisper House dollhouse is already ready, of course, and fully stocked with the collectible figurines of the Radiants, and the Softest, and Celebrated Whispers Calandra and Gianna. And the other prizes still left to come...! Oh, but it's going to be breathtaking.

Once all the prizes are done, all that will be left will be to await the date itself, and hope we have a full field to compete for the rewards!

And, of course, to see the Dreamer's shrine rise bright and clean and magnificent again, as it should be. But that will take rather longer and this is only the first step.

My suite is finally being renovated. I never knew there were so many choices to make when redecorating and ordering furnishings. Perhaps this is why I've ignored doing it before. But with my returns back home to be more sparse, I should tend to my manor rooms a bit more respectfully than a clothing disposal area.

Finding a temporary place to stay shouldn't be much of a problem, should it?
