Relationship Note on Morrighan

I don't really like winter anymore for a variety of reasons. There was a time though that it was my favorite time of the year and some good memories still remain.

A favorite is when brothers and sisters and I were gorging ourselves on Symanthe Morgan's famous Maple Bacon Muffins. They were a favorite winter time treat. Vance would usually pick all the bacon off of his and explain, at length, the virtues of bacon and how it should be consumed with only it's natural goodness and that we should stop asking to have it put in God's Damned everything.

So I asked him if that meant I could have the bacon he picked off and he promptly drug me outside and locked me out of the keep for the night.

Relationship Note on Morrighan

You reminded me to try on my coat.

I'm five months with-child and it doesn't fit.

I'm not saying I cried but can you fix this? Is there a way to fix it? It's so beautiful, this would be the first winter in four years I've not worn it and it feels so wrong not to.

Blast it all, I'm crying again, it's just a coat!

I think I need pie.

Maybe it is the season that entices us so. The consideration that our lack of restraint and control is based on the time of year is both a convenient and disturbing.

I like your thought experiment and I am going to give it a try. Perhaps I will report back my findings, it depends on how much I like or dislike this new "me".

Maybe it is the season.

I've heard these endless warm days wear us out towards the end of summer. Have us slipping too quickly and too easily into the darkest of our passions without demanding they be examined and not merely indulged in.

Find something you can set aside for a day perhaps, see how different you yourself become. Give up envy, or greed perhaps...give up vanity or pride. What do you look like then? What do you wish you looked like?

Raavas drew me a picture yesterday. It was of a Red Wolf and there were three dogs, a fox, a brown wolf, a squirrel, a wolverine and a magpie flying above. There was also a beaver (I think, it looked very much like a blob and another blob attached). He'd also written 'To dad, bEst SOLDER in iron gARD'.

Now I'm just so eager for fall to be here. Nuts how much a kid changes you.

There has always been strife in the Compact. We are a people who grow on conflict as it's been at our doorstep since recorded time began. When we ran outta external threats to fight, we fought each other fairly regularly. If you can take anything as a silver lining from a constant stream of bickering, take solace that most of these disputes ain't being settled with hundreds of soldiers dying on a field. Instead this rage often meets the threats beyond our walls like a swarm of hornets.

It can always be much worse.

As a minor point of fact...

I do agree with Prince Ettore that to be concerned for the quality and appointment of the Peerage is to be concerned for the common folk. One might believe that under an inexperienced noble that the commoners would simply soldier on with their spirits unyielding and lives no better or worse for it. This is untrue. Whether they be noble born or common ennobled the Head of a House, of a land, and of a people has direct affect of those people.

Now mayhap one believes that there are many examples throughout history of ennobled commoners rising to the challenge. They prove themselves both before and after ennoblement and like all things it is not wrong to present skepticism of the unknown before it can prove itself up to the task. I would say that should the trend continue you might find what happened with spirit believers being part of the Faith arising. It was deemed acceptable, it was allowed, it became unsurprising, and yet the Dominus believed it was muddying the issue and allowing the Faith to drift to far from it roots. The Faith is for the Faithful and the spirit believers would need to change if they wished to hold title and position amongst the Godsworn and Disciples.

Mark your unfettered support for the commonfolk being entrusted with noble duty well. You soon might find that such sentiments draw us to far from that which makes the Compact stable. As now it is a Lieges right to grant land and title to any within their demense, that right might be curbed should it lead to a degradation of tradition. After all to undermine the Peerage is to question the bonds of fealty from one person to another and ultimately to the Crown.

Relationship Note on Rosalie

I respect Marquis Geraint Blackwood's right to select his own heir. And there are protocols for family members if they do not agree with his decision. However, I do not believe the current leadership of House Blackwood should suffer because of a decision made by a man who has rejoined the Wheel. I will support House Blackwood in the aftermath of Marquis Geraint's death to organize and protect their people in a time of conflict.

My earlier white was addressing my personal feelings around what makes a good leader. My belief is that a good leader should honor the Faith. Be loyal vassals to the Crown and Compact. Should protect their people, fostering the growth of their lands. A circumstance of birth should never mean more than one's deeds. It is dangerous to place a specific measure towards worthiness least we become trapped by such a measure. My reference to my life was to show how hard it is to judge someone's worthiness when they are just starting their journey.

Only time will tell. In the end, I leave such judgement to Limerance.

While an admirable defense, you failed to see the point.

In both cases, people died and were mourned. In both cases necessity, or a higher cause, demanded another fill the void left with their death.

And in both cases, someone failed to do as they should and sparked outrage.

Whether a special sword or a title, once either is obtained, the weight and consequences of that choice follow. The actions of those with such increased duties are looked upon with greater scrutiny.

Because a title with a "coronet" comes with the lives that depend upon the decisions of their liege, as a special sword is more than a blade with a fancy name.

Do you see now?

I liken the recurring situation in which the silks start jumping at each other's throats before every major conflict to giving a squire a wooden sword with which to practice.

We get by under the disadvantage. It's hard, but we get by.

And should we ever manage to go into battle without the burden of a bunch of infighting preceding it, we will probably really kick some ass.

To his highness, Prince Ettore Mydas Velenosa,

Marquessa Freja Archeron was a fine and noble woman who carried that 'special sword' with distinction.

However, it was not her blade any more than it is mine.

It was not 'chased', and the timing of its retrieval was due to threats against its continued existence rather than fiat, whim or design.

None of which alters that two hundred souls perished, including Marquis Geraint's, that another threat heads towards our city, and we know not how, or by whom, or why.

So it is wholly unlike the situation you wish to liken it to.

Which is one for which I have already apologised.

May the gods watch over you, your highness, my greatest wishes for your continued health.

Perhaps I don't deal well with life, but my method of staving off the fear of the things I can't control or predict (or both!) is to get really, really drunk and flail my limbs around to the most riotously loud music possible. But I'm okay with that. Not everyone can be a deep thinker.

The Compact has been, currently is, and likely will remain subject to terrible threats of evil. Indeed, to attempt to conquer such things requires a united front, a banding together of people regardless of their beginnings in this world, and to fight together as near to one as we can. That does not, I believe, mean we stop having opinions on matters, or asking questions. None of us should be shamed for being concerned with things that matter to us. What may seem trivial to one person may not be to another.

I imagine few houses or families are without their own occasional challenges within the walls of their home. Yet they still come together, still often present united and whole when it matters, when the issue is greater than their current internal concerns. So too shall the Compact, I hope and suspect. To weigh the passions of others upon your own scale, to cast judgment on what might mean far more than simply a coronet in someone's heart, may be unkind and come across as an attempt to reproach them.

None of this is to say I approve or disapprove of the recent changes in House Blackwood. I keep my personal opinions on such things out of the whites for my own reasons and certainly do not judge those who do not.
