This week started with some interesting things of note. I have been studying a few tomes and information. Here and there. Basically preparing for when the enemy arrives. For that I am training some of my abilities first. I need to have good form and good range but also solid close quarter combat. I been feeling like a predator who is poised to strike with every fiber of their body ready to move into ths hunt. But no... I'm not foolish. There is no shame in a tactical retreat. I remain convinced that things like collections are just attempts to fill up all the space in these enormous houses.

Who cares? It's fun! I have a shelf full of severed heads, though, so I might not be the best source.

I feel very compelled of late to start a new collection. My liquor cabinets are hella full. Maybe something less expensive.

I wonder if collecting skulls and other bones is what people call gauche.

[a poorly drawn picture of a robust looking pony munching on something in a bucket labeled 'Oats And Steel']

Do you think you'd be able to smelt what came out the other end?

"We are all of us someone else’s dream but what does it mean to you, the phrase 'living the dream'?"

Nothing more and nothing less than doing exactly what I want to do in any given moment, of course! If someone is truly dreaming me, I don't think I much care about what they want me to be doing.

Oats and steel is actually a very popular breakfast food in the Oathlands.

I have perhaps said this a few times lately, but must note how absolutely humbled and touched I am by the most recent kind words about my work. I've been inspired recently for some reason; pictures just come into my head and I have to put them to metal. Really, it started with the announcement of Random Gift Days approach and just hasn't stopped. I don't like when the shop is empty, but I also don't wish to overdo things. But I get away from the point.

Thank you from deep in my heart for the generous and kind entries. They have always been worth so much more to me than silver and I am very, very grateful for them.

I remember this one time we got drunk and she said 'Oats and steel' and we could not stop laughing for over an hour. I think I called you the 'iron pony' the next morning as I was hungover and you were not. OATS AND STEEL.

One of the things we learn as Whispers is to always have conversation starters ready in our arsenal and that nine times out of ten these shouldn’t be just passing observations or shallow inquiries. The best question is one that sincerely expresses interest in learning more about your audience. There is no person alive who won’t happily speak about themselves if asked a direct question about their thoughts and feelings (they may claim otherwise but I can promise you even the surliest curmudgeon will engage you in conversation if you show interest in them!). I believe the reason for this is because people so often do not display interest in others, at least not in ways that don’t circle back around to their own thoughts and needs. We are our own greatest fascination and it can take practice to break out from that self-focused habit. But the rewards if you do!

Here’s something I keep in my arsenal and I gift it now to the Whites and anyone interested in improving their interactions with others; others might follow according to interest.

The question:

We are all of us someone else’s dream but what does it mean to you, the phrase “living the dream”?

Keep it or answer it! Here in the archives or by messenger for I always welcome new correspondence.

Honest to anything, I can not recommend skewering chocolate with hairpins enough. I mean, it's /brilliant/! When you share it with someone in one of those romantic moments? Even better. You are my dearest friend, platonic wife, neighbor, and so much more. Really, I should experiment with some sort of curved hairpins that you can stab with and wear as a headband instead.

Also, I visited your shop looking for my favorite hammer. I'm not /sure/ you took it, but I mean... Usually that's the case. Though it's entirely possible in the flurry of crafting I've been doing lately, I just misplaced it. In any case, those matching iridescite emerald earrings and collar you have for sale? Oaths and steel, you've outdone yourself with those. Truly, it's some of your most breathtaking work. It's really all I can do not to snatch them up for myself - and just yet might if they sit any longer.

I have to agree with Sir Gerard. For woodworking, especially something like a display case, I would suggest Mistress Adora. Her demeanor is quirky and fun, and her work is amazing. I will certainly be commissioning her for my own display case! Also, from what I've seen, she is able to do organization specific designs if that strikes your fancy!

The only thing I really miss about having my hair long was the beautiful things I could wear in it, and I think the moment I met Ida all those years ago, it was some incarnation of her hairpins of another. Nearly always. And so versatile. You can stab, maim, or throw them and see if they stick. I think once I used them to skewer chocolates in front of her and she was quite delighted. VERSATILE. Tell everyone. Buy from Ida Ferron.

I'm wondering now if she makes iron baby rattles.

Not only stabbing! But also bashing! My hammer is a piece of Dame Ida's and it has served me well for all manner of bashing, bludgeoning, clubbing, battering, hammering and clobbering! Not only is it wonderfully effective, but it is beautiful and looks like a roaring bear! Dame Ida is a master!
