Your bow and arrows could be considered your musical instruments. After all you play them so well, you move people and elicit emotional responses.

And the bow is technically a string instrument.

The thought you made it with and the intent in which it was given is what makes it important and more than worth having and keeping. Thank you.

It's not work that's as exceptional are the gold cuff I got you (my first gift, remember - when we were first talking) but it's the first gift I've given you that I've made. My hands, my haphazard forge, my work. So it counts for something. Something important. Doesn't it?

A note, scripted in a Scholar's overly neat hand:

Well, first it has to be iron. It's abundant, used often in alchemy. It promotes growth, dependence, and protection - , confidence, courage, strength, stamina, and resilience. It's a very human metal, iron is. The call of iron. The reminder of iron. It has to be iron and it has to be combined with another metal. It should be copper. Warm in color and it holds heat. The temperament of copper. The call of copper. Symbolic of artistic creativity, affection, caring, and balance. The same size because all things being equal are in balance. Thirteen-sided. It will take time to make, but I will.

It’s my sorrow to say I didn’t know Brother Martin well. I crossed his path a handful of times in the shrines. Keeping the place tidy, sharing a kind word with all who came, and just keeping the Faith strong in small, intangible ways. I have heard from Sir Jeffeth and Sir Andry and so many others of his impact on the lives of children, orphans who found their place with the Solace. His work made so many people better and more fulfilled, sometimes in such small ways they did not even realize its impact at the time. He is the best of what I think godsworn can be, and what a true hero is without bluster or hubris or grubbing for glory, and I’ll do my best to remember his example.

I could probably go point for point with you about why the forest is so much better than the city.

1. Beds - can be made out of anything you find, so long as you know what to find, and can be just as comfortable as any city bed. Plus, you get to smell the fresh night air, rather than someone's stuffy sweat from the night before if you're renting a room.

2. Fresh Food - You can forage for anything in the forest, fish in the rivers, and hunt. You don't get /any/ fresher than that. Who needs travel food if you have the skills to do these things?

3. Baths! - A well traveled explorer knows where all the best hot springs are within the woods, and Arx and Arvum has a surprising number of natural hot springs. Hot water galore, for as long as you want, without the water ever getting cold. It's the absolute /best/ for working out travel kinks and sore muscles.

4. People - Or, rather, the lack there of. I prefer only a handful of travel companions to a large city of people. But, I'm an explorer, and the more people you have, the more people you need to make sure live through your adventures. So, you get to choose the best of the best, and then take them with you. Of course, when you're trying to go as far north in Everwinter as you can or as far west in the Eventide that you can, you need a bunch of skilled people to make sure you live as well. But - it's all certainly worth it in the end.

5. Wonders Of the World - There's absolutely NOTHING that can compete with the sights of ruins where people from before the Reckoning have walked, or the Grove of Blackwood where Petrichor helped Pena Stormryder fight the enemy and came to her aid, or the pack of direwolves that peacefully slept in a cave with my party as I was traveling north on an expedition, sharing a night out of the cold without violence or harm to one another. Nothing.

And now I am homesick for the woods. I must make away with my husband for a camping trip, no matter how much he might complain of the cold of the spring thaw!

It's not about the spoons.

No,it is about the spoons. i cannot change who I am. I am a woman who enjoys the very finest things in life. I am more at home in the gilded adornments of a fine dinner party with all the cutlery and four different glasses, three different plates, five different spoons and four different forks. Where a servant pulls my chair out for me and then in, settles the napkin on my lap, pours my wines, champagnes, water. Where my hand never touches the plate and I never have to ask for more wine. It's just there.

The hallmark of a fine waitstaff. It's why I like the Queensrest. I don't slice open my own oysters. The chances of cutting oneself? Far too high and sprays blood at a dinner table is very inappropriate. I never use the sugar spoon for anything other than sugar. There are roughly five different types of soup spoons and I have been raised to note the difference between them and when it is appropriate to use the wide shallow one versus the one with a deeper bowl better suits to chowders and stews.

There are glasses for red wine, white wine, blended wines, champagnes, ports, brandy's. You do not put the one in the other or it alters the taste of the liquid. There are forks for salad with less tines than a fork one would use to dine upon their main course. Forks that you use to eat snails that would be unusable to eat salad or anything else because the tines are so small, meant to fit into the shell and pop them out.

This is about my right to enjoy a lively affair filled with fine china, boughs of flowers, twelve courses and soft music while talking with friends, just as much as he has the right to sit around a dock with sailors, singing loud songs while hamfisting oysters open and slurping at their insides after having cracked them open with a flex of his thighs and fistfight breaking out and spilling alcohol everywhere while drinking it straight from the bottle.

This is no different than needs five different axes, small or large, all with different types of blade edges because one is better at cleaving heads from shoulders while the other is best at making a man remember what he did wrong that day many years down the road. I respect that.

Gods woman indeed. He married high, he married great, he married someone who enjoys and requires the finer things in life and now he can answer the duel or maybe he'll find himself waking in the middle of the night with a spoon pressed to his chest and we'll see if one -can- spoon a heart out through the chest.

By Gild's bounteous bouncing buttocks!

I visited the Shrine of Gild early this morning to pay my respects and thanks to the goddess for her protection and patronage. First, the shrine is /gold/. The walls are gold! And the altar...

I've never even SEEN dragonweep before today. And when a priest saw me gawking, she helpfully explained some of the other metals - alaricite! Platinum! Things I half thought were just rumors and wishful thinking on the part of ambitious merchants like myself.

That people would give so much to build something that honors the goddess as she deserves is incredibly humbling. Also, I might have drooled. Just a little! I cleaned it up. Promise, my word to the gods!

I also met a noblewoman in the market who was aggressively trying to give away clothing. I assume that it is the aura of that shrine having an effect on the whole city.

I can't settle on any one musical instrument to learn to play well. I like the mathematical precision of some, and the elegance of others... but sometimes I'd just like an enormous and fantastically loud drum or horn to deafen everyone with.

They'd be great for sieges, hunts, duels and parties of all descriptions too.

Relationship Note on Harper

I can only create the garments with a vision in mind to work from. Sometimes that vision is mine alone and other times it is a shared experience of delight, discovery, and desires. Ultimately though, that vision turns into something tangible, something that is alive in it's own right. It is only then that the part you are meant to play can come to life truly, for the clothes you wear can grant enough confidence to be who you have always desired to be.

I did not win that, and you should never give credit away fully when it should also be placed upon yourself. The muse is just as important as the artist.

I received a generous loan offer just after I finalized my last entry.
As I expected, the offer is more than fair and I place my signature with ease.

Now it will be for my husband to find a house and renovate it.
I will assist as much as I can, but he is much better at those matters than I am.

Once he will be finished, I will make sure to add a woman's touch to a decor.
Mainly, it will be flowers.

The funeral for Brother Martin was today. There were a great many people there who I expected to see, and some I did not. He touched more lives than I knew. The words from the Bayweathers were beautiful, even the bit about cake.

Afterwards, I found myself before the Hall of Heroes. I found myself thinking about how many people were heroes who did something that saved so many, who would never grace those Halls. Saved them in ways big and small. Perhaps not the whole of the Compact, but people worthy of being remembered. People who stood for things that shouldn't be forgotten. I long for a day when we will not forget.
